Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

– More than 1,300 migrants have arrived irregularly to the Spanish coast, all of them to the Canary Islands, according to the count carried out by Europa Press.
– In this regard, 420 migrants have arrived on the Canary Islands’ coasts this Thursday. Two cayucos entered the port of Los Cristianos, on the island of Tenerife, with almost 150 migrants on board, 12 of whom are minors. Also in Lanzarote, 48 people of North African origin have arrived. During the early hours of this morning, the Rescue Coordination Centres (CCS) of Tenerife and Las Palmas coordinated the rescue of the occupants of four precarious boats with 222 people. Specifically, there were two boats with 66 and 38 people of sub-Saharan origin, another with 66 and one with 52 migrants. All were assisted by the medical team on the quayside, and no hospital transfers were necessary.
– On Wednesday, a total of 773 migrants arrived irregularly in the Canary Islands. Late in the afternoon, when it was some 9 kilometres from the municipality of Mogán (Gran Canaria), Salvamento Marítimo rescued 76 people. Later, the salvamar Adhara rescued a second cayuco, with 66 people, when they were 22 kilometres south of La Restinga, on the island of El Hierro.
Similarly, a total of eleven boats also arrived on Wednesday on the islands of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and El Hierro with 631 migrants on board. Ten of the boats were intercepted by Maritime Rescue and another arrived by its own means with 67 migrants on the beach of La Garita, in the municipality of Haría, according to sources from Maritime Rescue and 1-1-2 Canarias.
– Meanwhile, on Tuesday, a total of 54 migrants arrived at the port of Los Cristianos, on the island of Tenerife, on board a cayuco, in which 11 minors were also travelling. Also on Tuesday, 68 migrants arrived at El Hierro in a cayuco, including 14 minors and two women. In addition, on Monday, a boat with 67 people was intercepted in the waters off El Hierro.
– In recent days, numerous attempts at mass entry of migrants have been recorded in Ceuta. In fact, between 11 and 16 September, the Moroccan authorities detained more than 4,000 people to prevent them from entering Ceuta. Of the total number arrested, 3,795 are Moroccan adults, along with 141 minors, in addition to another 519 foreigners but not from Morocco. According to the data, six attempts to enter Ceuta through the Tarajal border were organised, where 70 people from sub-Saharan countries and Algerian nationals were arrested.

– According to the latest balance of the Ministry of the Interior, a total of 2,026 migrants in an irregular situation have arrived in Ceuta by land so far this year 2024. This figure represents an increase of 182.6% compared to the same period in 2023 when 717 were recorded.
– As for the Canary Islands, 26,758 migrants have entered the archipelago, compared to 14,454 the previous year, representing an increase of 85.1%.

Judge Llarena does not rule out the participation of the Mossos in Puigdemont’s escape: {Translation, summary}
– Judge Pablo Llarena {pic} considers that Carles Puigdemont could have been
arrested when he appeared publicly in Barcelona on 8 August.
– The investigator for the Supreme Court, Pablo Llarena, has transferred to the Barcelona courts several reports on the escape of Carles Puigdemont – the subject of a national arrest warrant – on 8 August after giving a rally in Barcelona. In an order issued on Thursday, he states that it cannot be ruled out that the Mossos d’Esquadra (autonomous police force in Catalonia), who were supposed to arrest him, are guilty of crimes for failing in their duty to make the arrest, and/or for assisting in the escape, directly or indirectly.
– What is set out in these reports ‘prevents the exclusion of the participation of other non-apparent perpetrators in the crimes envisaged in articles 408 and
451.3ºb of the Penal Code’, the investigator considers. The first article to which he refers refers to ‘the authority or official who, failing in the obligation of his position, intentionally fails to promote the prosecution of the crimes of which he has knowledge or of those responsible for them’. This is therefore an offence of neglect of duty, punishable by a disqualification of between six months and two years.
– The second article punishes with a prison sentence of between six months and three years any public official who helps the person responsible for a crime ‘to evade investigation by the authorities or their agents, or to evade search or capture’. In addition to imprisonment, the offender will be punished with between two and four years’ disqualification from public office.

MALAGA CITY
The English Market returns, and with night hours: {Translation}
– The calendar of street markets in Malaga resumes its activity in September after a summer break. This is the case of the Mercadillo del Inglés, which returns this Saturday with an important novelty: the first night edition with live music.
– It will be from 6pm to 11pm, and will offer numerous vintage items, handicrafts and a selection of second-hand books. Visitors will also be able to witness the progress of the restoration work that the English Cemetery Foundation has been carrying out in recent months on the most emblematic tombs. To continue supporting these conservation efforts, admission to the market has a symbolic price of just €1 (children free), which will go entirely to the maintenance of the English Cemetery. In addition, this night edition will feature the participation of Rockschool, a rock school from Malaga with different bands and courses. And there will also be a food-truck to refuel in the oldest non-Catholic necropolis in the Iberian Peninsula.
– In addition, on Sunday there will be a Zoco in Muelle Uno from 11am to 7pm, and the monthly edition of the Soho Urban Market will take place in the central street Tomás Heredia, during the same hours. In addition to the numerous exhibitors with decoration, crafts and accessories, there will also be a solidarity area, which on this occasion will be occupied by Proyecto Berta, Intermón Oxfam and Todos los caballos del mundo (All the horses of the world). ANTEQUERA
When can you do the guided wolf howling tour in Antequera?: {Translation}
– Lobo Park, an organisation run by the Asociación del Estudio y la Protección del Lobo y Canidae, is in charge of organising Noches de los Aullidos, an activity that takes place in the refuge located in the municipality of Antequera.
– The aim of this space is to analyse the behaviour of wolves and make them known, but it also acts as an animal sanctuary.
– To discover the nocturnal side of the wolves and to easily hear their howl (along with other sounds they use to interact with each other), guided tours are organised throughout the year. When the air begins to cool and the sun begins to set, the wolves perk up. It is also the best time to hear them howl. These are the next dates for 2024 that require prior booking:
Thursday 19 September.
Friday 18 October.
Saturday 16th November.
Saturday 14 December.
– At the beginning of the activity, which lasts around two and a half hours, the participants meet for a welcome drink and to contemplate the panoramic views of the Torcal de Antequera natural landscape. In addition to these nocturnal visits, other activities are carried out, such as programmes for schoolchildren, workshops and seminars and routes for professional photographers.
– Tickets for the Howl Nights, which can be purchased through the centre’s website. Lobo Park insists that places are limited and early booking is necessary. The price is 25 euros for adults and 17 euros for children. [https://www.lobopark.com/es/producto/noches-de-los-aullidos/]
– Lobo Park is located a short distance south of Antequera, on the Antequera – Álora road (A343), at kilometre 16. To get there, the ideal way is by car: just follow the A-343 road in the direction of Álora and get right behind the Torcal natural area. European Parliament approves the recognition of Edmundo González as the “legitimate” president of Venezuela: {Translation}
– The European Parliament has approved the recognition of Edmundo González {pic} as ‘legitimate and democratically elected’ president of Venezuela. The
resolution also ‘urges’ the European Union and member states to make the same recognition, and also calls for an international arrest warrant against Nicolás Maduro for ‘crimes against humanity’ in view of the ‘serious human rights violations’ he has carried out.
– The resolution has been promoted by the European People’s Party (PP) together with the radical right and extreme right groups of Giogia Meloni (ECR) and Vox (Patriots for Europe). The socialist group and the liberals decided not to support the document because they refused to recognise González as president, although the liberals have announced that they will abstain. Can Visiting “Bad” Fakebook Pages Get Your Visa Application Denied? Germany Proposes Enhanced Profiling, Via Social Media & Network Checks, Into Schengen Visa Applicants to Prevent Fraud:
– The German police have recommended that intensive social media investigations be launched into Schengen visa applicants to assess the risk of fraud. As said in a document obtained by Statewatch, the police want to use open-source research on visa applicants and also develop so-called risk profiles, Schengen.News reports. Here are some quotes from the report.
– “In some cases, they [social media and networks] are openly accessible and provide useful information. It may be possible to check whether the traveller is active in them and which content is displayed, which groups they belong to, or which places were last visited. Job profiles can allow conclusions about the actual profession and, thus, income.”
– “Where an applicant belongs to a group of persons where the risk assessment has shown that there is a high likelihood of illegal migration, that application shall be submitted to the decision-maker for an intensive examination.”
– Such a recommendation is part of the Handbook on Schengen visa fraud, and the main aim of this move, according to the German authorities, is to asses applicants’ risk of committing visa fraud. Moreover, the handbook also suggests that risk profiles be created for applicants. These profiles would summarise the information of applicants based on some criteria such as gender, age, origin, groups of persons, means of travel, itinerary, importer, issuing authority of the visa, purpose of travel, specified destination, and some other information, where applicable. MIDDLE EAST
Israel’s War Cabinet Greenlights Offensive War Against Hezbollah After Multiple Waves Of Electronic Device Detonations, Sends Elite Brigade North:
– Yaroslav Trofimov, chief foreign-affairs correspondent of The Wall Street Journal, writes pretty much what everyone is thinking: “Blow up pagers, force the surviving Hezbollah cadres to rely on walkie talkies, and then blow up the much bigger explosive devices inside the walkie talkies. A TV spy series producers would rule out this twist plot as impossible to believe in.”
– As many suspected and feared, this deadly two-day Israeli covert operation to blow up Hezbollah pagers, walkie-talkies, and small electronic devices was but preparation for a likely Israeli military ground operation in southern Lebanon. It appears war is here. According to breaking news wires:
“Israeli cabinet has given PM Netanyahu and Defence Minister Gallant the authorization to undertake military action against Hezbollah — even if it leads to an all-out war.”
– So far the second day of explosions across Beirut and Lebanon have led to 20 killed and 450 wounded, but the casualty toll could be much higher.
– Defense Minister Gallant has also declared a “new phase” of operations against Hezbollah along northern Israel:
“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, IDF chief Herzi Halevi and other officials all issued statements Wednesday evening which appeared to suggest a full-on war with Hezbollah was brewing, hours after a wave of explosions of walkie-talkies and other communications devices used by Hezbollah members across Lebanon caused widespread casualties, echoing a similar attack a day earlier that targeted Hezbollah-issued pagers. The IDF also announced Wednesday that it was redeploying its 98th Division to northern Israel, after months of operations in the Gaza Strip under the Southern Command.”
– Israel has further just ordered an elite brigade to the north:
“The Israeli army announced it’s transferring the 98th Division from the Gaza Strip to the northern border with Lebanon as tensions continue to escalate. With about 10,000-20,000 soldiers, the paratroopers and commandos will now join the 36th Division under the Northern Command.” Full article: https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/new-wave-blasts-rock-beirut-2nd-day-hand-held-radios-personal-devices-explode

– The Federal Trade Commission said on Thursday it found that several social media and streaming services engaged in a “vast surveillance” of consumers, including minors, collecting and sharing more personal information than most users realized. The findings come from a study of how nine companies – including Meta, YouTube and TikTok – collected and used consumer data. The sites, which mostly offer free services, profited off the data by feeding it into advertising that targets specific users by demographics, according to the report. The companies also failed to protect users, especially children and teens.
– “Surveillance practices can endanger people’s privacy, threaten their freedoms, and expose them to a host of harms, from identify theft to stalking,” said Lina Kahn, the F.T.C.’s chair, in a statement.
Efforts by the companies to police themselves also haven’t worked, the F.T.C. concluded in its report. “Self-regulation has been a failure,” it added.
– Included in the study were the streaming platform Twitch, which is owned by Amazon, the messaging service Discord, the photo- and video-sharing app Snapchat, and the message board Reddit. Twitter, now renamed X, also provided data.
– The F.T.C. found that the companies voraciously consumed data about users, and often bought information about people who weren’t users through data brokers. They also gathered information from accounts linked to other services. Most of the companies collected the age, gender and the language spoken by users. Many platforms also obtained information on education, income and marital status. The companies didn’t give users easy ways to opt-out of data collection and often retained sensitive information much longer than consumers would expect, the agency said.
– The companies used data to create profiles on users – often merging the information they gathered with information on habits collected on other sites – to serve up ads.
– The agency has previously filed complaints against several tech companies for privacy violations, and reached a $500 million settlement in January with Epic Games for violating a child privacy law. In 2022, the F.T.C. fined Twitter $150 million for using security data about users for behavioral advertising. Entry/Exit System Launch May Be Delayed Again as 3 EU Countries Are Not Ready:
– It is possible that the launch date of the Entry/Exit System (EES) will be delayed once again as three European Union countries have reportedly said that they are not ready for its implementation in early November.
– The EES, which will introduce fingerprint and facial recognition checks at EU’s ports and airports, is set to come into force on November 10. However, as the Guardian explains, France, Germany, and the Netherlands have sent a letter to the EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson, saying that they will not be ready in time to implement the system, Schengen.News reports.
– This is now raising questions about whether the EES will be implemented in early November or if it will be postponed again.
The EES introduction has already been postponed twice. Full article: https://schengen.news/entry-exit-launch-may-be-delayed-again-as-3-eu-countries-are-not-ready/
