SPAIN

More than 40 boats and almost 3,000 illegal immigrants arrive in the Canary Islands in a week with the greatest migratory pressure of the year: {Translation}
– The Canary Islands have set a new historical record for the volume of entries in a single week, with more than 40 boats and almost 3,000 illegal immigrants, figures which set a record and which, according to police sources, ‘will soon be pulverised’ in view of the current ‘pull effect’ around the archipelago.
– Only one week at the beginning of this year came close to the current figures, that between 29 January and 4 February, when the Canary Islands received a total of 2,759 immigrants in the middle of one of the worst starts to the year since data has been consolidated.
– According to figures from the State Security Forces and Corps consulted by LA GACETA, the 2,823 illegal entries registered during the last week exceed the records of many years, including 2019, when 2,687 were recorded for the whole year. Between 2009 and 2019, there is no annual period that has surpassed the statistics recorded in the last seven days.
– Departures from Morocco lead the weekly figures-
the majority of boats and illegal immigrants that have arrived in the Canary Islands in the last week have departed from Moroccan territory, according to the internal statistics of the General Commissariat for Aliens and Borders (CGEF).
– The island of Lanzarote has been the most affected, receiving a total of more than 1,000 immigrants as a result of the entry of a total of 22 boats that have registered their origin in the Moroccan coasts of Tan-Tan and Agadir, where the control of the authorities of the Kingdom of Morocco has been conspicuous by its absence, with no knowledge of any operation to stop the high volume of boats that have departed from the area.
– After Lanzarote, the island of Fuerteventura has also experienced more than 200 illegal entries that have registered their origin in Morocco. Thus, between them, the two enclaves have received almost half of the total number of illegal entries recorded in the last week.
– Deficient controls in Mauritania- the high number of illegal immigrants who have registered their origin in Mauritania is one of the issues that has most surprised the authorities deployed in the Canary Islands, as they believed that Pedro Sánchez’s visit to that country would lead to a decrease in departures from this enclave in the Sahel. More than 10 canoes departed from the Mauritanian coast, which has meant that after Lanzarote, El Hierro has once again been one of the islands with the highest number of illegal immigrants (surpassing the ceiling of 1,000 illegal immigrants).
– The situation on El Hierro is becoming unsustainable, as there are not enough medical professionals. This situation is shared by the members of the State Security Forces and Corps, who are ‘overwhelmed’ due to the lack of sufficient personnel to control the current migratory pressure on the island. MALAGA PROVINCE

Autumn arrives in Malaga maintaining temps over 30C until Friday, then a significant drop: {Translation, summary}
– Autumn is here, but for now it will not be very noticeable in terms of weather. At least in Malaga and the Costa del Sol, with temperatures remaining above 30C. However, after Friday a sharp drop in maximum temperatures is expected for the weekend.
– Andalusia sees a slight drop in maximum temperatures in most of Andalusia, with values below average for this time of year, which will not exceed 30C except on the Costa del Sol.
– The minimum temperatures will drop by three or four degrees approaching Wednesday, with a slight rise Thursday and then drop by another three to four degrees Friday.
– On the Costa del Sol, maximum temperatures will remain stable until Friday, with highs that could reach 30-32 degrees, although in the last days of the week there will be a significant drop, with a drop of six degrees between Friday and Saturday.
– Likewise, the gradual advance of a squall that will enter from the northwest of Andalusia and leave light showers in most of the region between Wednesday and Friday. This rainfall will appear in the province of Huelva Wednesday, although it will not be significant, and will be more extensive and abundant on Thursday, with rainfall in almost all of Andalusia which, in any case, will be less than five litres per square metre. On Friday, the squall will mainly affect the eastern provinces, and a return to stability is expected for the weekend.
– A light to moderate westerly wind will generally blow throughout the week, although it will be moderate to strong on Thursday and Friday on the Mediterranean coast and in the Strait of Gibraltar, which will cause the thermal sensation to be lower. Smoke from the fires in Portugal darkens the sky over Malaga: {Translation, summary}
– The first Monday of autumn has arrived with a darker sky than usual in Malaga, with a feeling of haze that is not real. Because what is clouding the Malaga sky today is not dust in suspension or clouds: it is the smoke from the fires in Portugal that has reached Andalusia. The impact of the devastating fires that have ravaged the north and centre of Portugal over the last few days is such that the smoke has clearly reached Spain.
– José Luis Escudero, an expert weather blogger, explains: ‘These days we have terral in Malaga and with the terral the skies are clear, clear. Yesterday the Malaga Mountains were clear. But today the sky is dark, like with haze and it is because of the smoke from the fires in Portugal’. Escudero points out that all the smoke from Madeira and the Azores is now being felt in the south of the peninsula. ‘The terral will remain at least until Thursday, but I think that this mass of smoke will have passed by tomorrow (Tuesday 24/9),’ he says.
– The fires in Portugal have already killed seven people and burned 100,000 hectares between the different outbreaks. Source, Spanish: https://www.diariosur.es/malaga/humo-incendios-portugal-oscurece-cielo-malaga-20240923144918-nt.html & X Post Link

NERJA

Prognosis uncertain for woman whose dress burst into flames at event in Nerja: {Translation}
– A woman has been admitted to the Burns Unit of the Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville, where she was transferred from the Regional University Hospital in Malaga, the latter centre where she was first treated after her dress caught fire while she was attending an event in the town of Nerja in Malaga.
– Health sources have confirmed the admission of the woman, as well as that her prognosis is reserved and that the state of the burns was what led to her transfer from Malaga to the specialised unit in the capital of Seville. The 112 emergency service confirmed that last Thursday, 19 September, at 23.50 hours, they received a call for medical intervention due to the burns a woman had suffered after her dress was set alight in Nerja.
– The emergency service received the call which located the incident in an apartment-hotel in Calle Salón in the coastal town of Nerja. The 061 ambulance service, the Nerja Local Police and the Guardia Civil were mobilised to the scene. The medical services have detailed the transfer of the woman, 29 years old, to the Regional Hospital of Malaga and then later transferred to the Virgen del Rocio in Seville, while the Local Police of Nerja said that the wounded woman had burns all over her body.
– The Guardia Civil have confirmed their mobilisation to the scene of the incident where they intervened in what, in principle, would be an accident suffered by a woman invited to a family event, and whose circumstances are being investigated. TORRE DEL MAR

A young drunk driver hits a traffic light, a flower pot and several bollards in the center of Torre del Mar: {Translation}
– In the early hours of Sunday morning, a 20 year old man drove his car into a traffic light, a giant planter and a dozen bollards in the centre of Torre del Mar, on Avenida Andalucía at the corner of Calle del Mar. The car was destroyed by the impacts and came to a halt near Las Pitas street.
– The young man was unharmed and the local police carried out a breathalyser test, giving a positive result. Source, Spanish: https://www.axarquiaplus.es/un-joven-conductor-ebrio-golpea-un-semaforo-un-macetero-y-varios-bolardos-en-el-centro-de-torre-del-mar/

RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA

Bus line between La Cala del Moral and Málaga returns: {Translation, summary}
– La Cala del Moral, the district of Rincón de la Victoria closest to the capital, with just over 16,000 inhabitants, launched a bus service last March, between La Cala del Moral and Málaga.
– At the time, the Councillor for Mobility and Transport, Pablo Pardini, framed this service as a test and pointed out that it would have an expiry date, after the six months set aside for the analysis of its operation. Now that the test has expired, the Malaga Area Metropolitan Transport Consortium (Ctmam) has announced the M-164 Malaga-La Cala del Moral line will soon be restored, exact date to be announced. MIDDLE EAST

Israel’s offensive causes at least 274 deaths in Lebanon after calling for the “immediate” departure of civilians from Hezbollah areas: {Translation, summary}
– An unprecedented wave of Israeli bombings in Lebanon has killed at least 274 people in a few hours this Monday, including at least 21 children, 31 women and two health workers, and injured more than 1,000, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health. It is the deadliest day in the Arab country since the end of the civil war in this country, in 1990, and a leap by Israel in intensity that places it at the level of its invasion of Gaza.
– The Israeli army had also urged on Monday morning that Lebanese civilians residing next to Hezbollah positions, where the bombing has intensified, should leave their homes “immediately.” The Lebanese coast road has collapsed with the departure of hundreds of families from the south fleeing airstrikes.
– On Monday morning alone, aviation has bombed more than 300 targets in Lebanese territory, military sources have reported. Israeli fighter jets focus their objectives in southern Lebanon, in the Bekaa Valley, and, further north, around the border with Syria.
