Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.
We are DigameXtra sponsors, so our contact info can be found everyday in the Sponsor’s Section.

News Note: It has been a very slow news day, both locally and worldwide. Mostly politicians flapping their gums- accusing each other of corruption and making promises they have no intention of keeping. The rest is rehashes of stories I already covered. Enjoy your first weekend in months with cooler temps; no news is good news. {The first recorded use of this exact expression in English is by James Howell in 1640, who wrote, “I am of the Italians’ mind that said, ‘Nulla nuova, buona nuova’ (no news, good news). Some years before that, James 1 of England (VI of Scotland) wrote, “No News is better than evil news”. – https://www.bookbrowse.com/expressions/detail/index.cfm/expression_number/325/no-news-is-good-news}

ANDALUCÍA

Rincón de la Victoria, with more than 34 degrees, marks one of the highest temperatures in Andalucia: {Translation}
– September ends as it began: with an unexpectedly scorching day. Or not so much, as we are going through what is known as San Miguel’s summer. So, after the relief for the temperatures that the arrival of the ninth month of the year brought, the transition from summer to autumn is not exactly peaceful, with several points in the province above 30 degrees this Thursday. Although in others, as in the case of Rincón de la Victoria, the sun has been a little more intense, reaching 34.2º; in fact, the province has had four stations in the top five of the Andalusian maximums.
– A rise in the mercury which, according to the director of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in Malaga, Jesús Riesco, is due to the incursion of northerly winds that warm up as they descend towards the sea, becoming terrestrial, which have caused locally high temperatures both on the coast and inland.
– Thus, after Rincón de la Victoria, the locations where the maximum temperatures have risen the most are the Meteorological Centre, which is located in Teatinos, with 33.9º; just the same value has occurred in Vélez-Málaga and Coín, while at the airport it has been 33.5º; and in Benahavís 32.7º. After them comes Álora, where 31.8ºC were recorded; Estepona, with 30.7ºC; and also Algarrobo, the last place to exceed the 30ºC mark, with 30.3ºC to be precise. Just below that value, although not too far away, were Alpandeire, with 28.4º, Nerja with 28.1º, the port of Marbella, with 27.1º and Ronda with 26.2º.
– The forecast, according to the director of the Aemet, is that from the early hours of Friday morning the temperatures will fall, making these values disappear from the thermometers at once, with drops in the maximums of 3 or 4 degrees in the interior and somewhat milder on the coast; also Meteorology does not rule out that there may be some showers in inland areas such as Antequera or Ronda, however, the same is not expected on the coast: ‘If there is rain, it will be two drops,’ says Riesco.
– On Saturday, temperatures will remain stable at around 25 degrees Celsius. A trend that will continue on Sunday; next week, thermometers are expected to rise again, reaching 30 degrees in inland areas, and around 28 on the coast. EUROPE

Russia Hammers Kyiv in Five Hour Missile and Drone Barrage:
– Ukraine´s air defenses battled an overnight Russian aerial attack on the capital Kyiv for five hours, officials said Thursday, as missiles and drones again hammered the Ukrainian power grid. The Kyiv attack injured at least two people, Ukraine´s Emergency Service said. A kindergarten, a gas pipe and around 20 cars were damaged in the city, said the Kyiv Military Administration.
– Attacks on the electricity network have knocked out around 70% of Ukraine´s energy generation capacity, according to the United Nations, bringing blackouts as winter approaches.
– In western Ukraine, the air force said, Russia fired three Kinzhal hypersonic ballistic missiles – one of Russia´s most advanced weapons – “in the direction of” Starokostiantyniv, a city in the Khmelnytskyi region, on Thursday morning. The air force said it could not make further information public, suggesting the missiles were aimed at a sensitive site. MIDDLE EAST

Netanyahu rejects the truce with Hezbollah while the death toll from the attacks on Lebanon is already close to 650 people: {Translation, summary}
– The truce between Israel and Hezbollah will have to wait. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that the 21-day temporary ceasefire proposed by the United States and France is not on the table and called on his army to continue operations against the neighbouring country ‘with all its might’.
– Despite calls from the international community for an end to hostilities, attacks on both sides continue almost unabated. Israel’s bombing campaign, which has intensified since Monday, has already left some 650 people dead, while Hezbollah responds with shells that have so far caused no casualties. Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/noticia/5637680/0/netanyahu-rechaza-tregua-con-hezbola-mientras-cifra-muertos-por-los-ataques-contra-libano-roza-ya-las-650-personas/

ENERGY CRISIS

Wind turbine graveyards, coming soon to a windfarm near you:
– These wind turbine blades have outlived their 20-year lifespan and can’t be recycled, so they’ve come to die at this wind turbine graveyard in Texas, USA. How “green”, “renewable” and “environmentally-friendly” is that? Expect to see a LOT more of this as a consequence of the aggressive push to reach “net zero emissions” by 2050. X Link

TECH

Intel releases critical BIOS patch for INTEL 13th and 14th generation Core desktop processors and associated motherboards:
– The company and motherboard makers released separate BIOS updates to fix incorrect default power settings and elevated voltage requests.
– These bugs affect all K, KF, and KS-series Core i5, i7, and i9 processors in the 13th- and 14th-generation Core families, plus non-K-series Core i7 and Core i9 processors. Lower-end Core i5 and i3 CPUs and 12th-generation CPUs aren’t affected.
– If you’ve got one of those CPUs and you’re already noticing crashes or instability, it means your CPU is probably damaged. While the microcode update patches can prevent future damage, they can’t fix damage that has already happened. Intel has extended the warranties on all affected processors from three years to five to cover customers who are having problems. This extended warranty applies whether you already own one of the affected CPUs or if you go out and buy a new one. Local Media Outlets Are Using AI To Produce & Edit Content: {DigameXtra}
– Here is the front page of major local media outlet {pic}. No human editor would post nearly duplicate articles, and certainly not place the headlines this near to each other on the front page. Not only are they relying on AI to do their writing and editing, it appears there is no human oversight to catch such obvious errors.
– When we look at the articles we see they are authored by “Redaccion” (Editorial Staff). Scanning over many other articles in the issue, we find most are also authored by “Redaccion”, with a minority attributed to a real person’s name. Real authors want credit for their work, that is how they build their career and portfolio; these “Redaccion” articles are, in my opinion, most likely AI produced.

Website: www.axarquiaanimalrescue.com
– Olive and Milly
are 2 young dogs that came into our care a few months ago. They had been thrown over a fence, without a care that there were other dogs on the land. Luckily they were kept safe until we were able to find somewhere for them to go. They have been in kennels for the last few months, and come on really well, very happy, sociable young dogs, who really need a home of their own, or a foster home. 9 months old and fully vaccinated. Estimated small to medium in size.
– Please take a look at our website, where you will find more information and photos, plus details of other dogs and pups that we have in our care. Our adoption costs are €110 for pups that have been fully vaccinated, rabies, chip and passport and €180 for older dogs that have all vaccinations, papers and have been neutered. This contributes towards their vet and care costs, and helps us to continue rescuing abandoned dogs and cats.
