MALAGA PROVINCE
Monday of strong winds in Malaga- Aemet activates the yellow warning: {Translation}
– Monday of inclement weather in Andalusia, with virtually the entire autonomous community with warnings for different phenomena. In Malaga will be a windy start of the week: the State Meteorological Agency has activated the yellow warning from 16.00 hours for coastal phenomena. Winds from the west and southwest of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour (force 7) are expected in the capital, the coast of the Costa del Sol, the region of Guadalhorce and Axarquia.
– The warning will be in force from 16.00 hours until 22.00 at night. The minimum
temperatures drop a little (21 minimum in the capital, although the maximum will reach 30) and the sky will be cloudy, even with the probability of light rainfall in the afternoon. In fact, the entry of a cold front is expected, as José Luis Escudero explains in his blog. It will be the beginning of a more unstable week, since as the weekend approaches the probability of rain increases in much of the province of Malaga.
– For the rest of Andalusia, Aemet has activated the warning for rain and storms between 14.00 and 21.00 hours in Sierra and Pedroches (Cordoba), as well as in Aracena (Huelva) and the northern mountains of Seville, with a forecast of an accumulated rainfall of 15 mm in an hour.
– In addition, the risk of coastal phenomena, with wind forecast west and southwest of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour and waves of two to three meters, will affect between 16.00 to 00.00 hours on the coast of Granada, while in the west and Almeria capital and east Almeria this same alert will extend until the early morning of the next day. TORROX
Two brothers attack several beach bars in Torrox Costa and one of them ends up seriously injured: {Translation}
– The Local Police of Torrox has arrested two brothers, aged 20 and 23 years, for allegedly assaulting, last Monday (30Sep), several beach bars in Torrox-Costa. The incident occurred in the area of Paseo Marítimo de Ferrara. The agents went to the place, after one of them, seriously injured, asked for help, then several neighbors quickly called the agents and they studied the causes of the cut. The wounds were deep, so the ambulance had to transfer the young man to the Hospital Comarcal de la Axarquia in Velez-Malaga, according to police sources, according to the colleagues of the newspaper Malaga Hoy.
– The police followed the blood trail and it led them to an establishment {pic}, which had a broken door and blood on the floor. Following this evidence, the police verified that it was not the only establishment that had been robbed on the same night. Allegedly, the brothers took several cash registers from other catering establishments in the same area. Although they denied this at all times. The injured man stated that he had been stabbed and was being chased.
– At around 4:30 a.m., the youths assaulted the establishment and it was while fleeing that one of them seriously injured himself on broken glass from the door. Later, his brother tried to plug the wound with a tourniquet. Faced with the impossibility and the seriousness of the situation, they called for help. The young man later received several stitches at the hospital.
– The brothers and their family have a criminal record for similar acts. Thus, the Guardia Civil has taken charge of the situation, for the moment the evolution of the injured young man is unknown, according to the same police sources consulted. The Court rejects the prosecutor’s request to convict the mayor of Nerja for the Landfill case: {Translation, summary}
– The Provincial Court of Malaga, in resolving the appeal filed by the Prosecutor’s Office against the sentence of the criminal court number 15, has rejected the request of the prosecutor to convict the mayor of Nerja as the author of a crime against the environment and natural resources. The prosecutor during the trial maintained that it was José Alberto Armijo himself, as mayor in 1998, who authorized the exploitation of this old quarry, located in the Río de la Miel area {pic}, as a landfill, and that he authorized it repeatedly ignoring the numerous letters that warned him of the illegality and danger of this landfill located on land of special protection for its natural values in the vicinity of the river Chillar and the Natural Park of Sierra de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama.
– The prosecutor asked for two years of imprisonment and 18 months of disqualification for the mayor and nine months of imprisonment for the businessmen involved. The High Court also rejects another request of the prosecutor, who had requested the repetition of the oral trial, determining that the judge in charge of the case should re-evaluate all the evidence in a sufficient and reasoned manner, for the issuance of a new resolution. {Evidently Spanish courts have “do-overs”. -Ed.}
– The mayor has expressed his satisfaction because the judgment of the Provincial Court dismissed the petition for conviction and retrial requested by the Prosecutor. “I trust, hope and wish that, after the assessment of the evidence in its entirety to be made by the magistrate of the criminal court number 15, a new acquittal will be issued,” said the mayor. Ireland Urges Foreign Residents to Apply for Permission Renewals As Soon As Possible:
– Foreign residents in Ireland, especially those who plan to travel outside Ireland during the Christmas period, are encouraged to renew their permissions in October, as the country’s immigration services have alerted about a backlog of applications.
– In the same press release, the Immigration Service noted that the processing time to renew an IRP card is currently between three and four weeks. In addition to the delay in processing the applications for renewing permissions, the full process could be even longer – as it can take up to two weeks to receive the new IRP card visa post.
– The Immigration Services Office disclaimed they ‘cannot guarantee that any renewal submitted after October 31, 2023, will be processed and an IRP card delivered in time to facilitate travel over the Christmas holiday period’. Tough criticism from Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs- Spain has become a “paradise to sow hatred and incite to the destruction of Israel”: {Translation}
– We are outraged and saddened that Spain has become a paradise to sow hatred and incite the destruction of Israel, the ministry has pointed out through a message on platform X. Macsar Badil, an organization linked to terrorist groups such as FPLP and Samidoun, has chosen Madrid for its annual international congress and the demonstration scheduled for today to commemorate the brutal massacre of 7 October. It is unacceptable that a democratic society allows the glorification of terrorism and the celebration of the crimes against humanity perpetrated by Hamas, it has concluded. The new, stronger XEC variant of the coronavirus- it will soon be the dominant virus: {Translation, summary}
– A new, stronger variant of Covid, with cases reported worldwide, is now spreading quite rapidly across Europe and already doctors are warning that it could soon become the dominant strain of the virus. The XEC strain was first detected in Germany in June, but since then cases have been reported in the UK, Ireland, France, Spain, the US and other countries, with 1,115 cases worldwide.
– It is a combination of KS.1.1 and KP.3.3 variants and causes symptoms similar to
those experienced with common illnesses such as flu and colds. Thus the usual symptoms include high temperature, continuous cough, loss of sense of taste or smell, shortness of breath, body aches and extreme fatigue. Cold-like symptoms such as headache, sore throat, nasal congestion or discharge, as well as loss of appetite, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting are also common.
– Most people improve within a few weeks, but others may take longer to recover and some may even require hospitalization.
– Researchers have called for closer monitoring of the XEC variant to better understand its symptoms. The director of the Institute of Genetics at University College London, Professor François Balloux, says the XEC variant is more contagious. He also believes it is likely to become the dominant strain during the winter months.
– The strain has already been detected in at least 29 countries and 24 of the 50 U.S. states and is spreading “quite rapidly” throughout Europe, North America and Asia. FOLLOWUP: Spanish Health Dept. Robbing The Public To Benefit Big-Pharma: {DigameXtra}
– I previously posted an article detailing changes by the Health Department regarding the sale of generic medications. There it was noted that pharmacies are no longer to suggest cheaper generic alternatives to medications. If the customer did not specify the generic version, clerks were to offer the more expensive branded version by default. Big pharma must have a mighty lobby to have gotten that passed.
– Friday I went to get a fresh pack of the antihistamine Cetirizina, for which a prescription has never been required. In the past I noticed that sometimes what I was given was more expensive and of a different brand (marca). So I now always ask for the “generico” or “sin marca” version to pay less for the same product.
– This time I was told by the lead pharmacist that this would be the last time I would be able to buy the less expensive generic version without a prescription. However, if I was willing to pay almost twice the price, I could buy the branded version without a prescription! She told me to expect this with other over-the-counter meds as well. So clearly it is not about limiting access to controlled substances, it’s all about profits. To avoid a €50 doctor visit to procure the dubious prescription, I will be blackmailed into paying more than necessary sum for the item I wanted. If you are on public health care, you’d need to take the time to schedule a new appointment, wait a week for the appointment, and then you’d get it for free…after suffering a week!
– This is outrageous, the gov’t is creating laws that are specifically created to exploit the poorest and sickest among us, who are just trying to save a few bucks in these horribly inflationary times, to gain more profits for big corporations. You can add this to the growing list of Health dept. nightmares!
– Be aware, this happens with prescription-required meds as well. A prescription for controlled items in the past has usually been filled by the pharmacist with the generic version, unless the doctor specifically included a brand name. For example, a prescription for Diazepan (English, diazepam) would be filled with the less expensive generic brand unless the prescription specifically said “Diazepan by Roche”, which cost much more. Now they have flipped the script and are encouraged by law to give you the branded version by default, unless you specifically demand the generic version, or perhaps, if you are a well liked client the pharmacist prefers not to rip off.

Flaw allows Apple devices to unexpectedly read aloud your passwords- Update now:
– Apple has released iOS and iPadOS updates to address two security issues, one of which could have allowed a user’s passwords to be read out aloud by its VoiceOver assistive technology.
– The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2024-44204, has been described as a logic problem in the new Passwords app impacting a slew of iPhones and iPads. “A user’s saved passwords may be read aloud by VoiceOver,” Apple said in an advisory released this week, adding it was resolved with improved validation.
– The shortcoming impacts the following devices:
iPhone XS (2018) and later
iPad Pro 13-inch
iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd generation and later
iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and later
iPad Air 3rd generation and later
iPad 7th generation and later
iPad mini 5th generation and later
– Also patched by Apple is a security vulnerability (CVE-2024-44207) specific to the newly launched iPhone 16 models that allows audio to be captured before the microphone indicator is on. It’s rooted in the Media Session component.
– Update now to apply patches. Users are advised to update to iOS 18.0.1 and iPadOS 18.0.1 to safeguard their devices against potential risks. Full article: https://thehackernews.com/2024/10/apple-releases-critical-ios-and-ipados.html
SPACE
This October gives us two meteor showers- here are the best days to see them: {Translation, summary}
– This month of October brings us two meteor showers, and the first of them can be seen from this Sunday: the Draconids and the Orionids.
– In the case of the Draconids, the meteor shower can be seen between Sunday, October 6 and Thursday, October 10, but will peak around Tuesday, October 8 or Wednesday, October 9. The meteors are named after the constellation Draco, from which they apparently originate. It is estimated that meteor observers will be able to see approximately ten shooting stars per hour. Unlike other meteor showers, which are best observed in the early morning, the Draconids are best viewed at dusk. The recommendation is to go out just after sunset to an area with a clear, dark sky. All meteor showers occur just before the first quarter phase of the Moon, when the lunar disk is in crescent. This means that viewing conditions will be good and there will be little lunar brightness in the sky.
– Later in the year, the Orionids shower takes place. The shower will be active from October 2 through November 7. However, it will reach its peak activity – when it will be most visible – between night and dawn on Monday, October 21 and Tuesday, October 22.
Stargazers should be able to see the shower for several days before and after this date. The annual meteor shower is the rocky remains of Halley’s Comet, which passes near Earth about once every 75 years. Stargazers will be able to see up to 25 shooting stars per hour during its apogee, but unlike the Draconids, viewing conditions for the Orionid meteor shower will not be as favorable.
The Moon will be in waning gibbous, the phase following the full Moon, where much of the lunar disk will be illuminated. This can greatly illuminate the sky and make it difficult to detect the fainter meteors.
