Upcoming Holidays:
– National holiday, Friday, 1 Nov, is All Saints Day.
Businesses and banks will be closed. Most shops, bars, cafés and restaurants will, however, be open for business as usual.
In Spain, every 1st of November is All Saints’ Day, to remember Christian saints who do not have their own Saint day. However, due to All Souls Day being on the very next day, the meaning of All Saints’ Day has expanded as a day to remember all those who have departed. In fact, more flowers are sold in Spain on All Saints’ Day than on any other day of the year.
DigameXtra Will Be Closed Friday, 1 Nov,
For The National Holiday.
Posts scheduled for the Friday Weekend Edition, 1 Nov, will be posted one day early on Thursday, 31 Oct.

Ventana Abierta Jazz Club Concert- Adrián Cruces Trio – GAP: Fri, 25 Oct, 8pm
Adrián Cruces (Trompeta y FX) – Gregorio Herreros (Piano, Moog y FX) – Alejandro Parrado (Batería y FX)
The band was born from the desire to experiment with new musical frontiers. Overwhelmed by the live performance of Shai Maestro’s new quartet, G.A.P. decided to search within tradition for new sounds and approach them in a different way, with musical communication as its main pillar. Although the group currently has little experience, it is already immersed in the recording of its own compositions, collaborating with great figures of jazz as well as with great figures of Malaga rap. The concert unites their taste for jazz and neosoul with their second passion, electronic music.
With their own compositions by each member of the group, G.A.P. tries to take musical communication to the next level. They are influenced by musicians and composers such as Shai Maestro, Christian Scott, Robert Glasper or Julián Sánchez among others.

SPAIN
Gran Canaria receives the largest boat crossing in its history- 231 people arrive at Arguineguín dock: {Translation}
– Gran Canaria has received in the last hours the largest cayuco in its history: 231 people of sub-Saharan origin have arrived to the island, among them 58 minors and 13 women, who claim to have departed from Gambia eleven days ago. This has been confirmed by sources of the emergency services who have offered these people first-aid on their arrival on the island. On their arrival on land, by their own means, these people received humanitarian and medical assistance. Three of them have had to be evacuated to hospitals for minor pathologies related to their sea crossing from Africa, as reported by 112.
– The Red Cross, for its part, has confirmed that this is the largest boat arriving on the island. However, he added that it is not the largest of the archipelago, as in El Hierro there have been in the last year some with more than 250 occupants and even one with 330 people.
– After being alerted that a boat with migrants was sailing near the coast, specifically 5.5 kilometers from Arguineguín, a Salvamento Marítimo vessel, the Salvamar Macondo, departed this Sunday afternoon to its aid, although the cayuco was able to make landfall without help. MALAGA PROVINCE
The weather in Malaga- the rains return from Wednesday: {Translation}
– After the last week of rains, Malaga had a weekend bathed by the sun, collecting the highest temperatures of the days. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) recorded this Sunday 29.6 degrees in Alora; and Coin reached 29.4. On Saturday four localities of Malaga were among the five hottest of that day: again Coin, with 28.2, Malaga capital 27.7, again Alora with 27.6 and Rincon de la Victoria 27.5 degrees. On Monday, October 21, in general, temperatures will be around 24 degrees, both on the coast and inland, with few cloudy skies and light winds. From Wednesday, with the entry of east, rainfall is expected in the western part of Malaga, although these rains will be weak.
– The director of the Aemet in Malaga, Jesus Riesco, said that the water will focus on the area of Estepona, “may fall some more somewhere else, and will be concentrated in the coastal area or in the pre-coastal,”. The rain forecast will extend to Thursday, when it is expected to be more general throughout the province, although they will also be weak. These precipitations will be concentrated in the early hours of the day. Regarding the thermometers, there will be no major changes, with highs around 23 on the coast and lows at 18. In the interior the maximum will be 20 and the minimum will be between 13 and 14 degrees.
– Looking ahead to the weekend, the director of the Aemet of Malaga advanced that arrives “with uncertainty” because the arrival of a Dana is expected. “But it is still early to know how it would affect the province,” Riesco stressed. At the moment, the rain forecast focuses on the eastern part, in the coastal area, in the central hours of the day. Temperatures will drop slightly on the coast, where on Saturday are expected to reach maximums of 23 degrees and minimums around 15. And in the interior the drop in thermometers will be greater, with maximums of 19 in Antequera and 16 degrees in Ronda, and minimums not exceeding 10 degrees.
– A Dana (acronym for Isolated High Level Depression) is a low pressure system or depression in the upper levels of the atmosphere, which has been totally separated from the general circulation of the atmosphere. Alert for the processionary in Malaga- it is four months ahead of the normal departure date: {Translation, summary}
– The processionary has seen its natural life cycle severely disrupted in some municipalities and has begun to form the dreaded rows of caterpillars in October, up to four months earlier than would be normal.
– This is the case in municipalities such as Alhaurín de la Torre, where the Councilor for the Environment, Abel Perea, warns that climate change is directly affecting the life cycle of the ‘Thaumetopoea pityocampa’. “What should normally occur in the months of February-March is occurring in October,” he explains, a behavior that is related to high temperatures and the absence of rain until recently. End to a “disastrous” chestnut harvest in Malaga- drought and the Asian wasp ruin the sector: {Translation, summary}
– The chestnut, a fruit that sustains the economy, especially in the villages of the Genal Valley. Under normal circumstances, a campaign closes with about three
million kilos in the province and the product ‘made in Malaga’ is exported throughout Europe. Right now, recognizes Diego Guerrero, the president of the Genal Chestnut Cooperative, there is nothing that is normal. With this year, there are now five in a row in which the chestnut producers are suffering. “It has once again been a disastrous year. If anything, we have been able to collect 10% of a normal harvest,” he explains.
– The reasons are to be found in a combination of several factors that, together, form an explosive cocktail: drought, fungus and Asian wasp moth. That is, the Malaga chestnut is currently succumbing to adverse weather and pests.
