ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER

 I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, for 7 weeks, I do a fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive a donation from 4% of subscribers. The 4% Club finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated.

Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?

– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –
#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope- there are benefits to being on the DigameXtra Donor’s lists, such as not needing to open an issue every 2 weeks to maintain your posting privileges, but only if you donate at least €30. Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR PAYMENT APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, it is set at €50 by default):

News Note: After the PP & PSOE annual conferences last week, lots of name calling and finger pointing seem to be the focus. Following are 3 articles to highlight the various agendas.

PP (conservative right) leader Feijóo admonishes the PSOE (progressive left) that “threatens the judges” and tells Sánchez- “Hold on Pedro, because we are going to throw you out”: {Translation, summary}
– The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo {pic}, has criticized this Sunday that the PSOE has met in its Federal Congress in Seville to “self-praise”, “promise more of the same” and “threaten the judges” before the alleged cases of corruption that affect Sánchez. After criticizing that the socialist officials have not “raised their voices” in the face of the “collapse” and “decadence” of the party, he has warned the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, that the Spaniards will throw him out at the polls.
– “At this point it is no longer worth his while to resign. No, no. And that’s why I say to him: hold on Pedro, don’t resign because you don’t deserve to leave with a minimum of honor. Hold on, Pedro, because we Spaniards are going to throw you out freely and democratically”, he said to the President of the Government, coinciding with his re-election as leader of the Socialists in the Seville conclave.
– At the closing of the XXVII Intermunicipal that the PP has held in Valladolid this weekend with about 2,000 mayors and councilors, Feijóo has pledged to “get Spain out of the normalization of lies and corruption that seeks” the Government of Pedro Sánchez, who, in his opinion, suffers “a scandal in the morning” and “another in the afternoon”.
**“I AM NOT PEDRO SÁNCHEZ, I WILL NEVER BE”**
– In a speech full of criticism of Sánchez and the PSOE, the president of the PP has indicated that he is not at the head of the Popular Party to be given “approval in everything” and “to only hear praises” or that “deceptions and lies” are allowed. Moreover, he has said that he does not lead the PP to ask his people to applaud “excesses and corruption”. “I am not here for shamelessness to be cheered in exchange for a salary. That is Pedro Sánchez. And I am not Pedro Sánchez. I will never be. I don’t understand politics like that. And I will never behave like that”, he proclaimed.
– After asking that the interests of the citizens be put above those of the PP, he assured that he does not want “an intransigent and single-minded party, but an open party”. In the same way, he stressed that he does not want a party “arrogant and leader-worshipping”, but one “with humility and demanding with whoever leads it”.
– Feijóo has stressed that this is why the PP have dedicated their recent conference to talk about the problems of the people while the PSOE has conference met so that “only one is heard”, in reference to Sánchez and how some people involved in the ‘Koldo case’ referred to him. “Sánchez made an appearance to praise itself and promise more of the same. He has met to silence those who do not agree with him. It has met to threaten judges, magistrates and courts. It has met so that only one is heard or, better said, so that only one is heard”, he emphasized.
– At this point, the head of the opposition has criticized that the Socialists “instead of raising their voices” allow “the whole party to be dragged into the messes of the closest circle”, alluding to the cases affecting Sánchez’s brother or his wife. “If his supporters do not change, they are as guilty as Sánchez is for allowing it. It’s up to them, in their decadence and their collapse. It’s their problem,” Feijóo warned.
– “And what is the feminism of the PSOE and the Government? Feminism is Errejón, is Tito Berni and the apartments paid with the taxes of the Spaniards (references to recent scandals involving progressive feminists). That is the feminism of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party and its partners. The actions of the PSOE are an endless plot. And their fight against climate change is to do nothing in seven years,” he emphasized, with a devoted audience that has interrupted him several times with applause.
– In addition, Feijóo said that the “heartless reaction” of the PSOE and Sánchez administration to the DANA victims is to say that if they want resources, they must request them from local authorities, as the Sánchez’s national government refused to take charge of relief efforts, in reference to the catastrophe of Valencia. At PSOE conference Sánchez claims his “step forward” and defends his clean Government despite hatred and attacks: {Translation, summary}
– The President of the Government and Secretary General of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez {pic}, has once again been proclaimed leader of the party and has claimed the “step forward” that he has taken despite the hatred and attacks against him and his party and has defended his Government “clean”, who has been harassed and attacked “with hoaxes” and “by land, sea and air.” He has also warned that his only priority is to win the municipal, regional and general elections again in 2027.
– At the closing of the 41st Federal Congress of the PSOE, which re-elected him again as general secretary for the next four years, he stated that in recent months he has “thought a lot” about what to do with his life, but he has decided to continue leading the Government and the party. “As you can imagine, I have spoken a lot with my family about this, because they, like all of us, are also victims of the hatred of professional haters,” he stated before his wife, Begoña Gómez, sitting in the front row and who has attended the event along with the main leaders of the party, María Jesús Montero, Santos Cerdán and president Cristina Narbona.
– Sánchez has launched this message in which he has described the socialists as “victims”, after their main leaders were promoting this idea in the previous days via press releases, denouncing an offensive of attacks from the PP and also from the courts, that affect their personal and political environment. Sánchez, ignoring logic, claimed this victory among his sycophants vindicates him from accusations, is a “step forward”, and defends his “clean government” despite hatred and attacks. He says his “only priority is to win the next elections in 2027 in order to protect social progress against the far right.” Source, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/nacional/noticia-sanchez…

Abascal (VOX, far right) affirms that Sánchez “is capable of any trick” to remain in Moncloa “without calling elections”:
– Abascal accuses Sánchez of “influence peddling” to promote Begoña Gómez’s professorship and says that the worst of Sánchez “is yet to come”
– The leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal {pic}, considers that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, “is capable of any trick” to “not call elections when the time comes” and remain in La Moncloa. “I think he is going to do things that no one has ever done before, he is capable of anything,” says Abascal.
– This is how the leader of Vox expresses himself in an interview given to Europa Press, where he delves into the “bad opinion” he has of the head of the Executive. “My opinion of the president could not be lower: about his moral character, about his democratic commitment, about his respect for the rule of law, about his love for Spain,” he emphasizes. With this in mind, Abascal “does not rule out” that Sánchez will “look for any ruse to not call elections when the time comes.” “He is capable of staying in power without calling elections, without budgets and even impeached, the worst for Sánchez is yet to come,” he emphasizes.
– However, the president of Vox also maintains that there may be events that are currently “not on the table” that “force an electoral advance or a motion of censure that could be successful.” In any case, he insists that these events would be foreign to the “will” of the head of the Executive, which is to “resist until the end.” “I am not able to imagine how far Sánchez is willing to go,” he emphasizes. Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT) Is Latest Gov’t Cyberattack Victim- A group of hackers claims to have stolen 560 GB of data from AEAT and asks for a ransom of 38 million euros: {Translation}
– The hacker group Trinity claims to have been able to access the database of the Tax Agency (AEAT) and has threatened to publish up to 560 GB of data on December 31 if they do not receive the 38 million dollars they have demanded not to publish the data. As detailed by the HackManac site, the group has published an image of this threat that is only visible from the dark web. However, there is no other data, nor have they published any information about the content of the data or which people could be affected.
– For its part, the Agency has assured that it is “assessing the situation” and that, so far, they have not identified any breach. “The situation remains under surveillance,” the agency added to several media outlets.
– This is not the first time that cyber-attacks of this type have occurred against Spanish institutions. The General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, or Iberdrola have also suffered emergencies that have affected the data handled by these organizations. MALAGA PROVINCE

Guadalhorce residents object to possible expropriation of land for solar power plants:
– Local citizens and protest groups in the Guadalhorce valley are speaking out against the expropriation of land for macro solar power plants. Their concern is palpable about the possibility of the Faballones photovoltaic project in Álora and the Orla project in Coín becoming a reality, both proposed by Verbund. This Austrian investment fund, according to some protest groups, is seeking to have this land recognised as being ‘of public utility’. This legal term is enshrined in a law in force in Spain since 1955 and allows the expropriation of private land if the project is considered to be in the interests of the general public.
– Although the first approaches towards landowners regarding these proposals date back to 2018, some of them claim that, during the pandemic in 2020, meetings to negotiate the use of their land intensified. This pressure, coupled with the restrictions on movement and meetings at the time, left many people feeling at a disadvantage to properly evaluate the proposals presented to them. The debate now focuses on the implications these developments could have on the landscape, biodiversity and agricultural activities that are a fundamental part of the local economy.
– For some years now protest groups have set themselves up as charitable associations, groups like Valle Natural Río Grande and AloraSol. They have been working to inform local residents and help them defend their rights. Full article & photo credit: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/guadalhorce…

Gaucín continues to rely on bottled water:
– Two weeks after the DANA storm, the most affected municipalities in this westernmost part of Malaga, such as Jimera de Líbar and Cortes de la Frontera, are still recovering. In Gaucín, the storms have left residents with mains water that is unfit for human consumption. The local town hall is distributing bottled water to help alleviate the situation.
– According to mayor Pedro Godino there has been a turbidity problem since the DANA storms struck the area. “The turbidity level is above the limit allowed by the health authorities for human consumption. We are distributing water for drinking and cooking,” stated the mayor, while also pointing out that the water tanks that supply the village are also being cleaned and disinfected. MALAGA CITY

Sabor a Málaga foodie fair runs next week with more traders than ever before:
– This year’s Gran Sabor a Málaga Fair will be the biggest yet thanks to the presence of 114 producers from all corners of the province and beyond, all ready to promote over 2,000 food and drink products. The gastronomic event will be held between 4 and 9 December along the Paseo del Parque, Malaga’s city centre park.
– This 13th fair will occupy a space 800 metres in length with five catering businesses dishing up food in addition to the aforementioned producers at their stands. This is the highest number of traders to attend since this event that features the province’s products has been held.
– In addition to the sale of unique and exclusive products, the fair has an extensive programme of activities. During the six days there will be live cooking demos, tastings of wine and food, workshops, charity competitions and live music in the Eduardo Ocón auditorium. TORROX

Malaga’s ‘little Germany’ receives consul as part of German film week:
– Mayor of Torrox Óscar Medina received Franko Martin Stritt, the German consul in Malaga, on Thursday 28 November at the town hall, ahead of a screening in the eastern Costa del Sol town. The film was being shown in Torrox as part of the fifth German film week in Malaga, organised by SUR deutsche Ausgabe, the Goethe Institute in Madrid and the German consulate in Malaga.
– The mayor explained that Torrox is known as “the little Germany of southern Europe”, as it is home to the largest German population on the Spanish mainland. It has more than 2,000 registered German citizens, although there are up to 6,000 who come and go throughout the year to Torrox, where they have second homes. ALGARROBO

Algarrobo approves tax credits to encourage the construction of protected housing: {Translation, summary}
– The municipal government team of the PP, with absolute majority, has taken a significant step in its commitment to improve access to housing, approving a declaration of special interest for the construction of public housing. This measure will allow a rebate of up to 95% on the Construction, Installations and Works Tax (ICIO), thus providing an incentive for investment in projects offering subsidized housing.
– The decision, which will be in force until December 31, 2026, responds to the commitment of the government team to offer facilities to build these homes on land that is being made available for the construction of VPO. The mayor of Algarrobo, Natacha Rivas (PP), has stressed that “this agreement is an example of the City Council’s commitment to social well-being and improving the quality of life in Algarrobo and, above all, provide access to a first home for our young people.”
– To access a VPO home you must be entered in the register of VPO claimants of the Algarrobo City Council. Source, Spanish: https://www.diariosur.es/axarquia/algarrobo-aprueba-bonificaciones-fiscales-fomentar-construccion-viviendas-20241129165351-nt.html

TORRE DEL MAR

Vélez-Málaga asks the Board for a solution for the shanty town of Casillas de la Vía in Torre del Mar: {Translation, summary}
– The shanty town of Casillas de la Vía is the only large settlement of this type remaining in the Axarquía. Located next to the old N-340, at the entrance of Torre del Mar from the Almayate area, it contains about fifty substandard dwellings, in which as many families, with more than a hundred people, from children to the elderly, live in deplorable and third-world conditions, without running water, sewage or electricity in safe conditions.
– After several decades of unfulfilled promises, the City Council of Velez-Malaga has returned to demand this Friday from the Junta de Andalucía, as owner of the land where the shacks are located, a final solution. Thus, the full City Council has unanimously approved a proposal urging the regional administration to seek a solution “urgent” to this serious humanitarian situation.
– The spokesman for the ultraconservative formation has stressed in a statement that this settlement, which emerged in the seventies of the last century, represents “a reality of extreme unhealthiness and a serious social debt that administrations have been ignoring for decades.” Herreros recalled that “in 1997, the Junta de Andalucía approved a plan for the eradication of shantytowns, and in 2003 €800,000 were allocated to the City Council of Velez-Malaga to address this problem. However, neither then nor now effective measures have been taken”. Photo: Eugenio Cabezas. EUROPE

Many thousands rally to oppose Georgian government after it steps back from EU:
– The country, long one of the most staunchly pro-Western states to emerge from the breakup of the Soviet Union, but lately drawn closer into Moscow’s orbit, was thrown into crisis on Thursday, when the ruling Georgian Dream party said it was halting European Union accession talks for the next four years. It accused the EU of blackmailing Georgia.
– Many thousands of demonstrators gathered late on Saturday in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, building barricades, breaking windows and setting off fireworks outside parliament, in protest against the government which called off talks to join the EU. Riot police responded by firing water cannon and tear gas into the crowds.
– The demonstrations were by far the biggest since the increasingly anti-Western ruling party was re-elected last month in a vote the pro-EU opposition says was rigged. Earlier on Saturday, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze accused the pro-EU opposition of plotting a revolution. The State Security Service said political parties were attempting to “overthrow the government by force”. Iceland elections see Social democrats gain and incumbents punished:
– Voters in Iceland joined a global trend of punishing incumbents in a parliamentary election, with a center-left party winning the largest share of votes in the North Atlantic island nation. With all the votes tallied on Sunday, the Social Democratic Alliance had won 15 seats in the 63-seat parliament, the Althingi, more than doubling its total, and secured almost 21% of votes, according to national broadcaster RUV. The conservative Independence Party, which led the outgoing government, had 14 seats and a 19.4% vote share, and the centrist Liberal Reform Party 11 seats and about 16% of votes. Three other parties also won seats. Social Democrat leader Kristrún Mjöll Frostadóttir, 36, will likely try to seek coalition partners to command a parliamentary majority.
– Icelanders voted Saturday after disagreements over immigration, energy policy and the economy forced Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson to pull the plug on his coalition government and call an early election. Election turnout was high by international standards, with 80% of registered voters casting ballots. IRELAND

Irish election weekend:
– As the Republic of Ireland’s election weekend reached the mid-point, unpredictability began to give way to some clarity. The most obvious route to a coalition looks to be a combination of the centre right parties who have dominated Irish governments for a century, plus left wing partners. Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael grew more optimistic as the counting continued late into Saturday evening.
– Following the exit poll, Sinn Féin had been hopeful that it would repeat its 2020 performance of winning the most first preference votes – and maybe secure the highest number of seats for the first time. Neither of those feats are out of the question but party figures seemed to be less keen to play up their chances as the declarations stacked up. Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald has said she wants to open talks with other left wing parties and independents with a view to forming a coalition. Of those groups, it appears that Labour and the Social Democrats are in line to make gains. However, the Green Party – which was the third member of the last government – is facing the possibility of losing all its seats.
– Some analysts are suggesting that Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael could win more than 80 seats between them, putting them close to the finish line of 88 needed for an overall majority. Full article: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cdxyx5704xeo

First they took Zwarte Piet, now they’ve hijacked Balthazar- political correctness on parade:
– Malaga city hall has announced that from 2025 the Three Kings parade will have black people playing the role of Balthazar {pics, above}. The new protocol, which establishes that this king will always be “a black person”, puts an end to the use of make-up on the faces of white people who have performed the role until now.
– This change of protocol has been described as a success by the municipal group Con Málaga, which includes the left-wing parties Izquierda Unida and Podemos. Both groups have been calling for Balthazar be a black person for some time.
– The Zwarte Piet character {pics, below}, commonly played by a white actor in blackface makeup, is part of the annual Feast of St. Nicholas that is celebrated on the evening of 5 December (Sinterklaasavond, which is known as St. Nicholas’ Eve in English) in the Netherlands, Curaçao and Aruba. Because of ongoing controversies surrounding the character, many schools, businesses, and other organizations across the Netherlands changed Zwarte Piet’s clothing and makeup or phased the character out entirely throughout the latter half of the 2010s. The most common variation used was Sooty Piet (in Dutch: roetveegpiet).

Roasted apples in an air-fryer: {Translation, summary}
– Using this appliance to roast apples helps us to reduce the time and secure the natural sugars, so we achieve a caramelized and juicy result, without the need to add large or extra amounts of sugar. In addition, this technique helps us to preserve the essential nutrients of the fruit, such as fiber and vitamins.
– Ingredients of roasted apples in air-fryer:
5 apples, 2 teaspoons of brown sugar, 1 spoon of cinnamon powder, 20g of butter.
– Preparation of the baked apples in air-fryer.
*Wash the apples well and carefully remove the top, and cut out a cone shaped piece from the center top (see pic).
*Put them inside the air-fryer.
*Then, we make a mixture with the sugar and cinnamon, to introduce a teaspoon in each hole that we made before in the apples.
*On top we place a teaspoon of butter per apple and cook at 200 C, if it has special program for desserts, we can program it that way. We wait for 20 minutes.
*Once finished, we can remove to decorate with mint leaves, if desired.
*Add the liquid from the tray on top, and our dessert is ready to enjoy. Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/gastronomia/recetas/dulces-manzanas-asadas-airfyer-receta-barata-5659194/ & Step by step tutorial with photos: https://www.simplyairfryer.com/air-fryer-baked-apples/
