Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

The Constitutional Court admits Aragón’s appeal against the amnesty and opens the way to the remaining 15 autonomous communities: {Translation, summary}
– The Constitutional Court has unanimously admitted the first appeal from an autonomous community against the amnesty law. The decision marks the path for the remaining 15, as the body of guarantees considers that the autonomous communities have standing to challenge the law. It also means that the appeals of those convicted of the procés against the Supreme Court’s refusal to apply the law to them will be admitted.
– There were 15 appeals that reached the Constitutional Court from autonomous communities, most of them filed by their governments led by the PP, but also by three regional parliaments in which the PP are in the majority (Murcia, Aragon and Cantabria). But the communities presided by the PP have not been the only ones: the Government of Castilla-La Mancha, presided over by the Socialist Emiliano García-Page, the most critical baron and who has always spoken out against the amnesty, did the same. COSTA DEL SOL
Seasonality continues to take its toll on the Costa del Sol- 26 hotels closed, while Nerja-Frigiliana-Torrox show significant growth in the off-season: {Translation, summary}
– The decrease in occupancy in November, which closes five points below last year’s record, has precipitated the closure of establishments, according to the president of the Association of Hotel Entrepreneurs of the Costa del Sol (Aehcos), José Luque. At this time there are already 26 hotels that have stopped operating, that is, 7.4% of the establishments and a proportion practically the same as last year at this time.
– He stated that hotel occupancy in November was 66.2%, which is 5.2 percentage points below the figures for the same month of 2023 when 71.4% of the rooms were filled. Aehcos highlights the growth of Fuengirola, with 84.4% occupancy, followed by Nerja with almost 76%, and Frigiliana-Torrox with 74.4%.
– The areas in which seasonality takes a greater toll are Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Marbella and the capital itself, where there are three hotels that are going to undertake works.
– This association has also advanced the forecasts for the coming months, pointing out that they expect that in December the occupancy will be 52.36% compared to 56.82% in 2023. While for January 2025, the hotel association predicts that the occupancy is 53.67% compared to the 58.23% registered in January of this year.
– Aehcos has pointed out Frigiliana-Torrox at the top of the ranking with the highest occupancy in December, followed by Fuengirola, Ronda and Mijas. As for the beginning of next year, they have pointed to Nerja in that first place, followed by Frigiliana-Torrox, Marbella and Benalmádena. TORROX
The platform against the location of an electrical substation in Torrox files a contentious-administrative case: {Translation}
– The citizen platform against the location of the first electrical substation in the Torrox Park urbanization, near a school and thousands of houses, does not give up. After the Prosecutor’s Office of Malaga filed a complaint in April 2023, and after the start of the works just days after the municipal elections of May 28, the group, which includes neighbors and AMPAS, has filed a contentious-administrative lawsuit as a new legal route to try to stop the works executed and financed by Endesa.
– The president of the group, Antonio Ruiz, explained to SUR on Tuesday that the complaint is based on an alleged violation of the law of urban planning of Andalusia by the City Council of Torrox, “which omitted the plenary of the corporation the approval of the project of action in order that the construction of the substation went ahead at all costs”. In his opinion, the license “is null and void because it was not taken to the municipal plenary”. “It can happen as with the morgue, which a court declared the exchange of land as void, in a final judgment, and still not open,” he argued.
– But the neighborhood platform has considered that “not only is the project irregular from its inception,” but, according to the collective torroxeño, “it contains several illegalities among which stands out being in a flood zone.” “After what we have seen that has happened in Valencia by the effects of the DANA we are clearer than ever that no one should have allowed the construction of an electrical substation in floodplains. Anyone can check it from the website of the Junta de Andalucía. The area is clearly floodable, not only from the river, but also by the streams that run through the grounds of the substation,” he said.
– Ruiz has pointed out that despite the corrective measures that have been implemented, such as raising the height of the substation with a wall, “the risk of flooding is still there”. “The substation will use oils, and underneath there are farms of crops, so there are risks of contamination,” said the president of the neighborhood platform, who has also assured that they have warned the court that the environmental report was made once the plot was cleaned ”and we know that there were protected plants and animal species there.”
– The neighborhood platform released a statement. “We will go ahead because the families support us and are still very concerned and because the future of several schools and an entire neighborhood is at stake. In addition, we are outraged that Paola Moreno, the Councilor for Urban Planning, the same one who suggested that we go to live elsewhere if it seemed to us such a dangerous place, has decided to move one of her children to a different location without explanation.”
– As they have detailed, “recently the families of Torrox Park have been able to see with concern how the high voltage tower that is a few steps from the CEIP El Faro has been reinforced to connect it to the substation.” In addition, the Platform has publicly denounced in their social networks that, “apparently, Endesa offered the City Council the diversion of the high voltage line that passes through the area to land without sensitive population and that the Consistory rejected it.”
– For its part, sources of the PP government team have declined to respond to these new legal actions taken by the citizen platform. The mayor of Torroxeño, Óscar Medina (PP), said last April that the City Council will continue to demand from Endesa that “the radiation is zero when the substation comes into operation”, something that is scheduled for 2025, after an investment of nine million euros by the electric company. “I have never doubted the professionalism of the technicians of the City Council. I do not want to be happy about this resolution because I understand the families, but the officials have acted correctly, and everything has been done with favorable technical and legal reports,” he added. The PP government has been emphasizing “the fundamental importance” of this new electrical substation, to enable new urban developments and avoid power outages.

Zero screens until the age of 6 and analog phones until the age of 16, indications from Spain’s Committee of 50 Government experts: {Translation, summary}
– The Council of Ministers has received this Tuesday the report commissioned by the Ministry of Youth and Children to a committee of 50 experts to address the exposure of minors to cell phones, which recommends zero screens until the age of 6, analog phones (without Internet access) until the age of 16,andr limiting the use of cell phones by adults in front of children, among other measures.
– Thus, from 0 to 3 years, experts recommend not exposing children to screens; and from 3 to 6 years, they advise against the use of digital devices, with exceptions, “in case of need, in a timely manner and under adult supervision”, in order to maintain social and family contact or when determined by court order.
– In addition, up to the age of 6 years, they advise limiting the use of digital devices by adults in the presence of minors, and from 6 to 12 years, they recommend limiting the use of devices with Internet access and prioritizing experiential activities, sports, in contact with nature and the physical and face-to-face environment.
– From 12 to 16 years, if it is decided to allow access to digital devices, experts consider “essential” to install parental control tools to prevent access to inappropriate content, as well as to manage exposure time, ensuring the adoption of security measures and privacy settings.
