Netherlands Begins Internal Border Controls With Belgium & Germany:
– Starting December 9, 2024, the Netherlands begins internal land border controls with its two Schengen neighbouring countries, Belgium and Germany. The border controls of the Netherlands with Belgium and Germany will remain in place for a period of six months. However, during this period, those crossing the border will not see much change as there will only be standard checks of random cars.
– Back in November, when the decision to impose internal border checks was made, the Dutch Migration Minister, Marjolein Faber, said that this measure is aimed at tackling irregular migration. The Minister further noted that through the introduction of border controls, the Netherlands also wants to prevent people smuggling in a “concrete way”.
– The Netherlands has more than 800 border crossings with Belgium and Germany. A very unique, all night event! Fiesta de los Rondeles- Casarabonela: Wed night ’till Thursday dawn, 11-12 Dec. {Translation}
– The antiquity of this celebration goes back three centuries. The origins of this celebration come from the Rondeles which are the old esparto grass mats that were used in the presses of the oil mills to grind the olives. Once the harvest was finished, these millers took the Virgin of the Rondeles in procession, having a peculiar way of accompanying the Image, since once the harvest was finished they burned the Rondeles and with this they made torches to illuminate the Virgin in her procession.
– On the night of December 12 there is a special date with the customs of the Sierra de las Nieves region and, more specifically, with the town of Casarabonela, which celebrates its traditional and atypical Fiesta de los Rondeles. Traditional, because it has been celebrated since the 18th century, a century in which several millers of the town decided to thank the Divina Pastora for the good olive harvest. Atypical, because in this religious celebration an element of clear pagan origin is appreciated, the fire. Those who accompany the Patron Saint of the town on her journey carry lit oil lamps. These flames illuminate the Divina Pastora from the exit of her hermitage to the church square, in a night tour in which the fire of the rondels carried by the millers, and that of the candles that some neighbors place on their facades, become the only illumination of the town during the celebration.

DoctorLaptop’s Tips #113- For anyone who wants to try out AI from their computer for FREE, without installing anything or giving up your security- introducing GROK by Elon Musk:

– With a free X account (previously Twitter) you can now make 2 free AI requests per day. GROK AI is accessed on the X website using your web browser, without installing any apps (there is an X app, but I’m not referring to that here). It does not have any more access to the data on your computer than other websites you commonly sign in to, so it’s not risky to use, unlike most of the other free AI tools on the internet. Most of those are free because in the fine print you agree to allow them to scan your computer data “for AI training purposes”. Yikes!
– Elon Musk is giving away free access to one of the best AI services out there, for people with a free X account, but with a 2 request a day limit for free users. GROK is a far better writer than the AI authored articles you see in the papers and websites. It is smoothly conversational, it’s not repetitive, and it includes references with working links when referencing facts. It is an amazing graphic artist. You will be impressed.
– Once you have signed up for a free X account, [https://x.com/i/flow/signup] you go to the home page, and there is a menu on the left side column. Click GROK. That takes you to the GROK user page {pic}. Ask a question, request an image from your description, or get instructions on doing just about anything, all just by typing in your request (known as an “AI prompt”).
– Creating useful AI prompts will be a useful skill in the near future. Think them well out in advance, you only get 2 a day for free. Be specific in what you request for the best results.
– Most search engines like Google, Yahoo & DDG have declined in performance and are more concerned with sending you to their business partners than providing accurate responses to your queries. It seems that big tech wants us using AI to do the work the search engines used to do fairly well. Why? Profits, of course. AI is a new product to sell you, search engines only get income from advertisers, now they can give you a taste of AI for free and try to upsell you to premium search services, and for this you get accurate search results again. AI is mostly a “passive” business, machines do most of the work so it requires far fewer employees than the massive teams of humans needed to manage a search engine’s complex “active” operations.
– Here is an image I made by typing this request into the GROK request submission box: “Make me an image of a billboard with the word DigameXtra.com on it”. It took 20 seconds to process. I like the result. To be clear- I don’t like AI and I don’t trust AI, but I must admit the latest generation of AI tools are impressive.
Then I refined my AI prompt to, “Make me an image of a billboard with the word DigameXtra.com on it, located in the Port of Malaga, Spain”. This was the result. It figured out the clever word colors on its own. Spooky, right? Other free AI tools I tested are not nearly as good as GROK. I’m told the competing, “premium” paid AI tools do come close to GROK in some aspects, but require you to install apps and pay a subscription.
