ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER

 I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, for 7 weeks, I do a fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive a donation from 4% of subscribers. The 4% Club finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated.

Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?

– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –
#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope- there are benefits to being on the DigameXtra Donor’s lists, such as not needing to open an issue every 2 weeks to maintain your posting privileges, but only if you donate at least €30. Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR PAYMENT APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, it is set at €50 by default):
https://www.amazon.es/Cheques-Regalo-Amazon-es-mail-Amazon/dp/B07SS5PFJK/
On the eGift card purchase form, enter the DigameXtra email as the recipient, as shown below in Spanish and with English translation.
Para/For : digamextra@protonmail.com

For those readers who cannot afford to make a holiday fundraiser donation: Referring friends to subscribe to DigameXtra is a good way for you to contribute to this project with no expense. Thank you.

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

The retirement age is raised again- from 2025 it is no longer enough to be 66 years old: {Translation, summary}
– Spaniards who want to retire as of January 1, 2025 with 100% of the pension will have to have at least 66 years and eight months completed, by virtue of the 2013 pension reform, which progressively raised the retirement age from 65 to 67 years over a total horizon of 15 years.
– These 66 years and eight months will be the age required for those who accredit less than 38 years and three months of contributions (in 2024, 66 years and six months are required to retire with less than 38 years of contributions).
– If the 38 years and three months of contributions are exceeded, workers who want to retire from January 1, 2025 with 100% of the pension will have to be 65 years old.
– What did not change with the 2013 reform is the minimum contribution requirement to be eligible for the contributory retirement pension, which remains at least 15 years, two of which must be included in the 15 years prior to retirement. Spanish adults, at the bottom of the OECD in reading comprehension and mathematics and problem-solving skills, only 30% of adults surpass basic knowledge in mathematics and reading: {Translation, summary}
– Spain is one of the eleven countries that have scored “systematically below” the OECD average in reading comprehension, mathematics and problem solving, according to the second edition of the report of the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) conducted by the OECD in 31 countries with 160,000 people aged 16 to 65 years. The so-called ‘PISA report for adults’ places Spain in the lowest levels of the table, with 247 points in reading (while the OECD average is 260 points), 250 in mathematics (compared to 263 in the OECD) and 241 in problem solving (compared to 251 in the OECD).
– The first edition of this report was carried out a decade ago and then Spain was also at the bottom of the 27 participating countries. “Over the last decade, the level of reading comprehension has only improved in Denmark and Finland, and has remained stable or declined in all other participating countries and economies. The results in mathematics are more positive: eight countries improved their scores, led by Finland and Singapore,” concludes the report, published Tuesday. MALAGA PROVINCE

The rains will return to Malaga this Wednesday and Thursday: {Translation, summary}
– The rains will return to Malaga tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday, especially, although it is not ruled out that they will arrive until Friday. So far, the good news. The bad news is that the heaviest rainfall is expected in the sea and, at most, on the coastal strip, so it will barely be noticeable in the reserves. It is even possible that there will be snowfall above 1,200 meters, in points such as Tejada and El Torcal, but the bulk will stay mainly on the coast and in the sea.
– This is the prediction made by the Aemet Meteorological Center, although it is a complex situation to model and we will have to be alert to possible changes. Its director, Jesús Riesco, explains that the first showers will be seen starting tomorrow, Wednesday, and will enter through the eastern part (Axarquía). In meteorology, this phenomenon is known as an Isolated Low or Isolated Cold Storm (BFA) and, therefore, it will not be a DANA, like the two previous episodes.
– What is taken for granted is that temperatures will remain below normal at least until Friday, although heading into the weekend they will rise to normal values for this time of December, after a slight rise on Saturday. For now, daytime temperatures will be around 15-16 degrees in the capital and the coast, and 11-12 in the interior. While the weekend will increase to 18-19 degrees maximum on the coast (9 degrees minimum); and 14-4 in Antequera.
– Reports say there have been significant frosts in many parts of the interior, with temperatures below zero in the Vega de Antequera, the Serranía de Ronda and the Alta Axarquía. In the capital, the airport thermometer has set the minimum so far this winter, with 5.8 degrees; and 2.1 in Antequera. LA HERRADURA

Arrested after committing six robberies in two weeks in homes in La Herradura: {Translation, summary}
– The Civil Guard has arrested a young man of 22 years with no known address, as the alleged perpetrator of six crimes of burglary perpetrated between 11 and 25 November in six homes in the municipality of Almuñécar. The detainee was caught red-handed by an agent of Almuñécar when he had just robbed an apartment in La Herradura, after doing the same in another house in a nearby urbanization.
– The Civil Guard, however, continues to investigate because it suspects that the young man arrested is allegedly responsible for four other robberies of homes in Almuñécar. The investigators have also charged this young man for an alleged crime of breaking and entering committed on November 21 and for violating a restraining order issued by the Court of First Instance and Instruction number one of Almuñécar. HEALTH

A woman from Seville claims 330,000 euros from the SAS for a diagnosis of “flu” when she had a heart “infection”: {Translation}
– A woman has taken legal action to claim 330,000 euros from the Andalusian Health Service (SAS), to which she attributes an alleged “diagnostic error” in that she was allegedly blamed for a “flu-like condition” when in fact she was suffering from a bacterial infection that ended up affecting her heart and led to a “highly complex” surgical intervention, according to her lawsuit.
– As explained in a statement by lawyer José Antonio Sires, the patient, aged 31, went on April 23, 2024 to the emergency services of the Macarena Hospital in Seville capital due to the high fever she was suffering, being diagnosed with a “flu-like condition” after “an initial physical examination and basic procedures, without including any other complementary diagnostic test that could determine the existence of any complementary pathology and completely ignoring the factors provided in the clinical history” of the woman.
– More than 3 months later, on July 31, 2024, according to Sires, “a call was made to the patient to request her immediate and urgent admission, informing her that she was suffering from an enterococcus faecalis infection”.
– Due to the slowness in the diagnosis, this bacterium has lodged in the heart, which has produced a pathology of mitral and aortic endocarditis with periannular complications, with moderate-severe mitral insufficiency and severe aortic insufficiency”, for which an ‘intervention of great complexity’ was necessary, endangering the integrity and life of the patient, and therefore had to be admitted to the ICU until the end of September, having spent much of her recovery in the Critical Care section, due to the delicacy of her situation,” it indicates.
– After said intervention and admission to the ICU, it was the woman’s own family, according to the lawyer, who detected that the patient had “become paralyzed on the right side of her body, after several hours, without any physician having previously detected the symptoms, as a result of no physician being present in the care and surveillance tasks” of the woman, according to the woman’s claim.
– This paralysis, according to the lawyer, “came from a stroke suffered during her stay in the ICU, due to an acute obstruction of the left middle cerebral artery, an added complication, which has further aggravated her condition, requiring another new intervention, consisting of a neurovascular intervention”. Another Huge Database Cyberattack On Highly Sensitive Personal Data- 2 Billion Files Of Spanish Data Exposed: {Translation, summary}
– A “massive” cyber-attack against the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC), on an undetermined date and whose details have been known on Monday, involved a leak of 2,000 million records of “sensitive” personal data belonging to owners of Spanish mobile phone accounts that the state agency maintains. The computer attack on the CNMC files took place through illicit hacker access to CNMC security services, and it has not released details at this time regarding what level of personal data it reached.
– It is the hosting company, providing supposedly secure data storage services to governments & businesses via the “cloud” and networks, that has been abused to perpetrate the cyberattack on CMNC. In this case it was the data storage facilities of Private Layer INC, based in the Swiss canton of Ticino, where the attack occurred.
– Specifically, the exfiltration has affected a total of 240 gigabytes of data of subscribers to telephone lines in Spain.
{This is exactly what I have been warning about. Gov’t agencies claim the data they collect on you is secure, but then they go store it with a company that submitted the lowest bid to provide the service, often from another country, where the gov’t agency cannot consistently monitor the security or vet the employees. The truth is these agencies have no idea if your data is secure when stored outside their direct control. And they know it- their data security claims are baseless, yet they lie to us. Yet most people seem willing to trade privacy for convenience, they silently go along to get along, taking one more giant step towards the Digital ID and a cashless serf society. -Ed.} Source, Spanish: https://www.diariosur.es/economia/ciberataque-cnmc-dejo-descubierto-2000-millones-datos-20241209162951-ntrc.html

“Let not any one pacify his conscience by the delusion that he can do no harm if he takes no part, and forms no opinion. Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing. He is not a good man who, without a protest, allows wrong to be committed in his name, and with the means which he helps to supply, because he will not trouble himself to use his mind on the subject.” – John Stuart Mill, 1867
