ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER

 I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, for 7 weeks, I do a fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive a donation from 4% of subscribers. The 4% Club finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated.

Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?

– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –
#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope- there are benefits to being on the DigameXtra Donor’s lists, such as not needing to open an issue every 2 weeks to maintain your posting privileges, but only if you donate at least €30. Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR PAYMENT APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, it is set at €50 by default):

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.
We are DigameXtra sponsors, so our contact info can be found everyday in the Sponsor’s Section.

What Are The Socialists & Communists Hiding? The PSOE and its partners stop the PP’s request to the Government to help Justice to clarify cases of corruption: {Translation}
– The PSOE and its investiture partners have knocked down this Thursday an initiative of the PP with which they sought to demand the Government to collaborate with Justice to “clarify” the responsibilities of the corruption cases that are being investigated and that point to the Government, the PSOE and the family environment of President Pedro Sánchez.
– It was a motion, a consequence of the urgent inquiry that the PP directed in the last session of control to the Government, to the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, on his alleged involvement in the ‘Koldo case’.
– The text has only had the support of PP and UPN, since Vox has opted for abstention, and the 175 votes gathered by PSOE, Sumar, ERC, Junts, Bildu, UPN, Podemos, BNG and Coalición Canaria have managed to overthrow the initiative. With it, the PP & UPC wanted to urge the Government to collaborate with the action of Justice to “clarify” the responsibilities that could arise from the cases of corruption that are currently being investigated and that allegedly compromise the Government, the Socialist Party and the family environment of President Sánchez.
– This demand, according to the initiative, collected by Europa Press, is due to the “refusal” of the Executive to offer “minimally convincing” explanations and its “lack of transparency” with the information requested and even, as they pointed out, “obstruction” to the initiatives in which “accountability” is demanded. They gave as an example of this, among other things, the investigation commission on this matter that was created in Congress and in which, in their opinion, what the PSOE did was to “cover up” the truth and “try to divert attention from the magnitude of the plot”.
– In fact, they pointed especially to the Minister of Territorial Policy and former president of the Canary Islands, whose situation they describe as “untenable” due to the different corruption plots in which he is allegedly involved, such as the Tito Berni case, the ‘RR7 case’ or the ‘Koldo case’.
– They also reminded those in attendance that the actions of the members of the Government and all public officials must be “conducted” by the principles of “transparency and exemplarity”. Rent Strikes Coming- what it is, the precedent of 1931 in Spain and legal consequences of joining it: {Translation}
– For affordable rents and decent housing, and “against political inaction at the state and regional level”, tenants throughout the country have taken to the streets on numerous occasions this past year, convened by the tenants’ union, which denounces that 60% of our income “goes directly into the pockets of renters”.
– Spain is divided between those who accumulate property and rental income, and those who, even with stable jobs, do not have the resources to access a home in property and, with difficulty, manage to live with dignity as a tenant. In this context, in addition to geopolitical conflicts and the inflation that results from them, the younger generations – who suffer the most from the housing problem – cannot become independent until they are 30 years old and depend on family support to do so.
– Only 16.3% of young people were able to become independent in the first half of 2023, half the EU average.
While rents in Spain exceed 1,000 euros on average, the salaries of young people between 18 and 35 years old are between 1,200 and 1,500 euros on average, making living alone practically impossible for most of them. In fact, according to calculations made by the Spanish Youth Council (CJE) they spend 108% of their salary on house rent and supplies. It is unsustainable.
– The data speak for themselves: in the last five years, the median rental price rose 19% in Spain. This is more than the increase in the average income of Spaniards (14%) and three times more than inflation in the same period (6.7%). Faced with this reality, the union demands not only a drop in rental prices, but also “to put an end to the scam of temporary and per-room rentals”, and the end of sale and purchase operations for speculative purposes, among others.
– Carme Arcarazo, spokeswoman for the Sindicat de Llogateres says, “seasonal renting is like the junk contracts of the labor world”.
– In addition to the mobilizations, the unions are beginning to talk about the rent strike, which, in some places, has already taken its first steps: in Catalonia the Sindicat de Llogateres has reported that “a total of 29 families of the subsidized housing developments managed by La Caixa (Inmocaixa)” began a “two-month strike”, which involves the return of the “receipt of the last two monthly payments of the year”. “The already announced revolt of the keys begins,” said Enric Aragonès, spokesman for the union.
– What is the rent strike- precedents in Spain? In August 1931, more than 90,000 families in Barcelona went on strike and stopped paying their rents. It happened in a context in which the city had grown from 600,000 inhabitants to more than one million, following the arrival of Andalusians, Extremadurians, Murcians and Galicians who, hit by the crisis of 1929, which was already being felt in Europe, were looking for housing and employment.
– Their demands were twofold: that the government build cheap housing and that a 40% reduction in the price of rents be forced. Rescuing this episode of our history, the unions are now starting to talk about a tenants’ strike to end the current crisis. But what legal repercussions could it have for those who participate?
– Possible repercussions of a rent strike. “If one tenant stops paying, it’s her problem. But if ten thousand tenants organize to stop paying, it’s the landlords and the governments that support them that have the problem. That is what the #RentStrike we are walking towards consists of”, the union affirms.
– However, the reality is that in Spain, the rent strike is not recognized as a legal right, since Article 28 of the Constitution only includes the right to strike for labor reasons. Therefore, if it were to be carried out, it would not be legally protected by the rights that a person has for going on strike.
The consequences? They would not be criminal, but could be civil, such as legal claims by the owner or even evictions, as happened in 1931 when the Chamber of Property and the Board of Housing of Barcelona, led a strong police and legal repression, quadrupled evictions, arresting and beating thousands of trade unionists. ANDALUCÍA

Sierra Nevada opens ski season this Friday with 5.8 kilometers of slopes in the Borreguiles and Río areas: {Translation}
– The winter resort of Sierra Nevada opens this Friday the ski season 2024/25 with 5.8 kilometers of skiable length in eight tracks in the areas of Borreguiles and Rio to which will give access seven lifts open at the beginning of a weekend with a forecast of hotel occupancy of around 30 percent.
– Cetursa, the public company that manages the ski resort of Sierra Nevada, has also reported, after making public its first snow report of the season, which details that the access limitation has been set at 3,500 skiers / snowboarders.
– In addition, “due to the snow conditions, ski mountaineering is not allowed on the El Río slope”, on a day in which there will be activities in the area of Mirlo Blanco, in Pradollano, and sledding in Borreguiles, detailed from Cetursa.
– With these conditions, in which caution is called for “scarcity of snow outside the marked tracks”, will begin a weekend in which it is expected that virtually the entire hotel plant of the ski resort is already open, after both Saturday November 30 and Sunday December 1, along with the bridge of the Constitution and the Immaculate Conception, opted for a tourist opening with recreational activities for non-skiers.
– The snow activities for pedestrians that until now have been operating next to the Borreguiles carpet will be moved to their usual location and to the Mirlo Blanco activity complex.
– The subway parking in the Plaza de Andalucía, which has been free since November 30, will be charged this Friday.
– The Parador chairlift, which runs through the urbanization of Pradollano, is scheduled to start operating on Saturday.

Why Won’t EU Doctors Work In Andalucia? In 2025, the SAS will (again) facilitate the hiring of doctors and nursing staff from outside the European Union: {Translation, summary}
– The Governing Council of the Junta de Andalucía has agreed to exempt foreign non-EU specialist medical and nursing personnel from the nationality requirement to hire the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) during 2025 with the aim of “guaranteeing health care in the face of the shortage of professionals.” This measure will facilitate the incorporation of personnel without European Union nationality in the face of the “increased situation of shortage of health personnel.”
– So far, according to data from the Andalusian Government, 65 contracts were made for non-EU specialist doctors in 2018; 177 in 2019, 479 in 2020, 678 in 2021, 846 in 2022, 1,154 in 2023 and 827 in the first seven months of 2024. In the case of non-community nursing staff, four contracts were formalized in 2018, seven in 2019, 20 in 2020, 25 in 2021, 24 in 2022, 37 in 2023 and 9 in the first seven months of 2024. Therefore, there are 4,352 non-community healthcare hires since 2018.
– The causes of this situation according to the SAS include the lack of attractiveness of certain positions, usually in rural areas; strictly demographic reasons, such as the increase in the number of professionals retiring from the healthcare activity due to reaching retirement age; or the current imbalance in the system for training a doctor. {There is no shortage of doctors. But they won’t accept the below average wages offered in a place with skyrocketing rents and inflation! And the non-EU specialists often just use Andalucia as a stepping stone to better paying positions up north as soon as their contracts expire. -Ed.}

Andalusian campsites agree to act against the new travelers’ registry: {Translation, summary}
– The Andalusian Federation of Campsites will present allegations to the new system of travelers that requires the user who wishes to stay to provide about thirty data, many of them sensitive to their privacy. This new registration, according to a statement from the Federation, involves multiplying “the paperwork, time and resources required and may contravene the Data Protection Act and even go against the spirit of European legislation”.
– The Andalusian Federation of Campsites, chaired by Francisco Rodriguez Guerrero, has met this Thursday at the Camping Los Villares Sierra de Cordoba-Kampaoh Cordoba, where they have analyzed the existing concern “for the bad image that this new registration system is giving the campsites, as well as the rest of hotel establishments and travel agencies bound by the regulation”. This poor image has spread, “to foreign tourists and in countries like the United Kingdom, where even a movement has arisen that advises not to travel to Spain”. TORROX

Seven vehicles burn at the Torrox municipal depot: {Translation, summary}
– Serious fire in the municipal vehicle depot of Torrox. A total of seven cars have been affected, five of them in its entirety, after the fire declared last Wednesday night in the premises of the City Council Torroxeño located in the middle channel of the river Güi, on the border with Velez-Malaga.
– The 112 telephone received minutes before 23.00 the first of several alerts warning of a fire in the municipal vehicle depot located in the Camino Rio Güi. From the coordinating room was activated the Provincial Fire Consortium and the Civil Guard, as well as the Local Police.
– Firefighters sources reported that the fire, whose causes have not been identified, has affected seven vehicles, five of them in its entirety and two others partially. For their part, the Local Police and the Civil Guard have opened an investigation to try to clarify the origin of the fire. In the plot are stored vehicles removed from public roads for violations of various types detected by police officers and the Armed Forces. EUROPE

EU lets Bulgaria and Romania fully integrate into Europe’s ID-check-free travel zone:
– European Union ministers on Thursday agreed to let Bulgaria and Romania fully integrate into Europe’s ID-check-free travel zone, known as the Schengen area, by lifting land border controls from next year, the EU’s Hungarian presidency said. Bulgaria and Romania joined the Schengen area in March after years of negotiations, providing free access for travelers arriving in both countries by air or sea.
– However, land border checks remained in place due to opposition, chiefly from Austria, over concerns that the two countries were not doing enough to prevent migrants from entering without authorization.
– “Interior ministers have just adopted a decision to lift internal land border controls with and between Bulgaria and Romania,” the Hungarian presidency posted on X. “A great victory for Bulgaria, Romania, and all of Europe!” Land border checks will end from Jan. 1.
