ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER

 I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, for 7 weeks, I do a fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive a donation from 4% of subscribers. The 4% Club finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated.

Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?

– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –
#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope- there are benefits to being on the DigameXtra Donor’s lists, such as not needing to open an issue every 2 weeks to maintain your posting privileges, but only if you donate at least €30. Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR PAYMENT APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, it is set at €50 by default):
https://www.amazon.es/Cheques-Regalo-Amazon-es-mail-Amazon/dp/B07SS5PFJK/
On the eGift card purchase form, enter the DigameXtra email as the recipient, as shown below in Spanish and with English translation.

SPAIN

The PP will present motions against the new traveler registry approved by Royal Decree: {Translation}
– The Popular Party will present motions in the next plenary sessions of all city councils, deputations, councils, general councils and councils to demand the immediate withdrawal of the new register of travelers, which the Popular Party calls “Big Brother Tourism”.
– On Monday, December 2 came into force the application of Royal Decree 933/2021 establishing the obligations of documentary registration and information of natural or legal persons engaged in activities of accommodation and rental of motor vehicles and which provides for fines of up to 30,000 euros for defaulters. Now, the PP will take the repeal of this regulation in the plenary sessions during the remainder of December and next January, while calling for the development of “consensus” with the sector and the various operators of a new legislation to ensure competitiveness, as highlighted in a statement on Sunday the party.
– The motion denounces the “legal uncertainty” caused by this new regulation, as well as “the disproportionate administrative burden it involves, the competitive disadvantage for Spain, the inadequacy of the technology designed and the violation of the right to privacy and privacy of tourists and users”. A “Tourist Big Brother” that “severely hampers one of the capital sectors for the Spanish economy such as tourism”.
– The PP indicates that the Government has approved RDL 933/2021 “against the opinion and interests of the sector and deceiving its representatives” and denounces that it has not taken into account the repeated warnings of the sector about the risks for travelers and for the international reputation of Spain. The PP understands that this law causes, textually, a strong legal uncertainty and ignores the operational complexity of collecting so much data load, even before the provision of the service, which in fact makes it almost impossible to comply. This situation causes a competitive disadvantage with respect to the European market, as obligations are imposed on companies that the national legislations of other European States do not impose.
– In the communiqué it is detailed that the tourism sector also denounces that the technological infrastructure designed to be able to comply with the registration obligations does not work and is not operational. Specifically, the regulation establishes that the companies in the sector must provide the corresponding data on the Ses.Hospedajes platform. This is the data of the leasing company, the accommodation, the transaction and travelers, which, as a novelty in the latter category, must indicate the number of travelers and the relationship between travelers in the event that any of them is a minor.
– According to the PP, the measure violates European regulations with the massive collection and storage of data “that does not respect the principle of minimum intervention and is a very serious interference in the privacy and intimacy of tourists and users”. In addition, as the party stresses, the initiative also affects Spanish citizens who are tourists or travel for work purposes within the country, “as they are also obliged to provide a significantly greater amount of personal data than at present when they arrive at their accommodation, affecting their experience and violating their privacy”.
– The PP believe that it represents a “disproportionate administrative burden”, since users have to provide “more than forty data items, which triples the data” that was required before. In the case of entities that rent motor vehicles, the required data rises to more than eighty, according to the PP. TORROX

Torrox Raising Water Rates, But Not Rubbish Tax:
– The new year will arrive with tax rises for the more than 21,500 residents of Torrox on the eastern Costa del Sol. However, the rise will only affect the water rates and not the new rubbish tax which has been introduced by Spain’s central government.
– The announcement was made on Thursday 19 December by the Partido Popular (PP) Mayor of Torrox, Óscar Medina, who said that the so-called ‘tasazo’ or rubbish tax “imposed” by the PSOE central government would not be applied in the town and was part of “Pedro Sánchez’s fiscal voracity”. However, Torrox town hall will apply new rates of “one euro for every 15,000 litres consumed” Medina explained, adding that “prices have been frozen since 2010”. Through the increase, the town hall says it will be able to cover the additional charges brought in by the Axarquia’s public water company in July. EUROPE

Saudi Arabia warned Germany a year ago about the danger of the perpetrator of the mass attack this weekend that left at least five dead and about 200 injured, 46 very seriously: {Translation}
– What is known about the mass hit-and-run in Germany? He is a 50-year-old Saudi doctor, in a speeding black BMW that drove into a crowded street market resulting in 400 meters of fatal traffic.
– The Saudi Arabian secret services warned the German authorities about a year ago of the dangerousness of the doctor Taleb A. {pic}, arrested for the attack committed this Friday in Magdeburg, in the east of the country, in which five people were killed in a car attack at a Christmas market.
– According to the president of the Federal Criminal Office (BKA), Holger Munch, the warning – which he described as “abstract” – was forwarded to the Regional Criminal Office (LKA) of the federal state of Saxony Anhalt, which saw no reason to act. Additionally, it has come to light that Taleb A. had already threatened an attack in 2013, on that occasion against the Medical College of Mecklenburg-Pomerania (eastern Pomerania), which had not recognized him as part of his training. In a phone call Taleb A. threatened an action that would have international repercussions and mentioned the Islamist bombing of the Boston Marathon, which had been committed two days earlier. According to the Mecklenburg-Pomeranian Ministry of the Interior, Taleb A.’s home was searched two days later, but no evidence was found that he was actually planning an attack. In the end, he was fined by a court in Rostock for disturbing the public order with threats.
– Between 2011 and 2014 Taleb A. lived in Stralsund (northeastern Germany) where he did his specialization in psychiatry and there, after having asked for financial assistance, he threatened to commit an act that would have “international” repercussions. On another occasion he threatened to commit suicide. In 2015 he complained to the Ministry of the Interior about the fine he had been sentenced to in Rostock, called the judge a racist and threatened to get a gun.
– Despite all this – and threats made on social media for revenge against alleged German plans to Islamize Europe – Taleb A. was not in the sights of law enforcement agencies. In 2016 Taleb A. was granted asylum in Germany and in the process argued that because he had turned away from Islam his life was in danger in Saudi Arabia.
– Terrorism expert Peter Neumann – author of the book The Return of Terror – has said there are at least two explanations for why Taleb A. was not targeted by security agencies. The first is that he did not fit any clear pattern. Being critical of Islam, no one considered him a potential Islamist terrorist, and being a migrant, no one considered him a potential far-right terrorist. Neumann has suggested including a new pattern for detecting terrorist dangers – already introduced in the UK during the pandemic – which includes people with conspiratorial delusions of any kind and who are not mentally stable. UK

British tourism is abandoning “over priced” Spain and has already found less expensive and more exotic substitutes tour operators warn: {Translation}
– The main country of origin of tourists to Spain is the United Kingdom. All year round, subjects arrive from the islands in search of warmer temperatures, but according to tour operators, this is changing. TUI, one of Europe’s largest tour operators, argues that the British are starting to abandon Spain as their main destination, and have already found a substitute, or rather substitutes.
– Sébastien Ebel, CEO of TUI Group, has observed a noticeable change in the travel patterns of British tourists. “What we are seeing is that more people are going to Egypt in the winter rather than the Canary Islands,” he says. For price-conscious tourists, affordability is crucial, and Ebel notes that more and more travelers are operating on a budget, and Spain is not the “budget” or “exotic” destination of the past. Every year Spain becomes more “generic European” and more expensive, losing its appeal for many travellers.
– With rising costs, capacity issues and protests against mass tourism in Spain, places like Egypt and Tunisia are becoming attractive to those who want to save on their winter sun vacations. “There is a shift, especially in the family segment, towards cheaper destinations,” Ebel added. EasyJet Holidays has also seen an increase in demand for less frequented destinations, such as Egypt and Morocco.
Its executive director, Garry Wilson, attributes this trend to significant improvements in hotels and infrastructure, making previously neglected areas much more attractive to international visitors. Boxing News- Oleksandr Usyk beats Tyson Fury in rematch to defend heavyweight titles:
– Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk retained his WBA (Super), WBO and WBC world heavyweight titles by unanimous decision against Britain’s Tyson Fury to remain undefeated after an enthralling clash in an electric atmosphere at the Kingdom Arena on Saturday. Giving up advantages in height, 25kg in weight and several inches of reach to his much bigger opponent, Usyk fought superbly throughout to win 116-112 on all three judges’ scorecards as he again defeated Fury after his success in May made him the undisputed champion.
– Fury, 36, was much-improved from that first encounter where he wilted in the ninth round but could still not solve the puzzle posed by the 37-year-old Usyk, whose superb movement saw him force the Briton onto the back foot for much of the bout. Disappointed by the second loss of his professional career, the usually talkative Fury left the ring without speaking. TECH

Company that captured images of eyes in Malaga in exchange for cryptocurrency ordered to delete data:
– A small display in Malaga’s Vialia shopping centre at the beginning of 2024 attracted a lot of attention because of the novelty of the idea. A sign said, “A photo of the iris of your eye in exchange for virtual money or cryptocurrencies”.
– Behind it was the company Worldcoin, owned by Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT. The aim was to collect data on people by taking images of the iris of their eye in exchange for ‘tokens’ or Worldcoin currency that the user could then spend on digital purchases or exchange for cash if they were part of the project.
– Hundreds of Malaga residents, mostly young people, passed in front of Worldcoin’s cameras in Malaga during the last Christmas holidays. The aim of the company, now called World, is to create a universal digital passport, a World ID, which would unequivocally identify every human being, hence the importance of collecting biometric data from people using their irises. But this innovative practice was a breach of European data protection policies and now, months later, all the data collected in Malaga and in many other European cities (around 400,000 people in Spain) will have to be permanently deleted.
