ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER
I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, during the year end holidays, I do a fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive a donation from 4% of subscribers. The 4% Club finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated. THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS!
Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?
– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –
#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope- there are benefits to being on the DigameXtra Donor’s lists, such as not needing to open an issue every 2 weeks to maintain your posting privileges, but only if you donate at least €30. Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR PAYMENT APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, it is set at €50 by default):
https://www.amazon.es/Cheques-Regalo-Amazon-es-mail-Amazon/dp/B07SS5PFJK/
On the eGift card purchase form, enter the DigameXtra email as the recipient, as shown below in Spanish and with English translation.

IMPORTANT FUNFRAISER UPDATE: Tuesday, 7 Jan
New Submission Rule Goes Into Effect Today
So far, only 103 of the 4946 subscribers (2.1%) have donated to the 2024 Holiday Fundraiser. Disappointing to say the least. Therefore, I have extended the fundraiser for another month. If you want DigameXtra to continue in its current form, free to read and subscribe, you must help support it!
Due to the weak response to the 2024 Holiday Fundraiser, in an effort to stimulate more donations, I am instituting a rules change. I regret this is necessary. However, to continue providing a quality publication to the loyal DigameXtra supporters, I must now cut back on services provided to those who choose not to support this project. This will allow me to focus on new features, more high quality content, attracting new readers and sponsors, and providing better support services to my supporters and sponsors. There are some subscribers selling thousands of euros in merch per year who never donate. Others, managing businesses and service organizations, with monthly budgets of several thousands of euros, ask me to promote their events & services, yet decline to sponsor for only €5 per week. Sorry, after 7 years of editing 8 hours a day, and considering the current financial state of affairs, that cannot continue. This is the only solution I could come up with. If the goal of 200 donations is achieved by the end of January I will rescind this new rule. Let’s hope that is the case. -Ed.
NEW RULE
Anyone can read DigameXtra for free- on the website, or by email subscription.
However, subscribers who wish to actively participate by making submissions will need to have donated at least €20 to the 2024 DigameXtra Holiday Fundraiser. If you won’t make the effort to donate just 39 cents a week (€20/yr), then please refrain from making submissions, as I have supporters – the donors and sponsors that pay the production expenses – that require my attention. Thank you.
I asked most of the 40 donors who stopped by to see me if they thought this rule change was appropriate. All of them agreed it was, and most suggested I should move to a paid subscription model as well. Some expressed indignation that 103 donors are funding the operation so 4800 subscribers can have a free ride. Well, I am not ready to take the leap to requiring paid subscriptions, but that is the trend now for daily Internet blog newsletters. These typically only show a sample of the content for free. To see the entire issue in these, you must have a paid subscription, as on the popular blogging website, Substack. -Ed.
The Submission Rules Page has been updated to reflect this change.

SPAIN
The Bank of Spain offers a free service to exchange euro coins and banknotes for others of different values, here are the details: {Translation}
– You keep the change in coins as a way to save money or you have received large bills that are difficult to exchange for everyday purchases. People in this situation (or others) can go to the Banco de España to exchange both euro banknotes and coins for others of different value at no cost.
– This service has nothing to do with currency exchange. Despite being a widespread belief, as the Bank of Spain points out, the Bank of Spain does not buy and sell foreign currency to individuals.
– But if you need to change a large amount of coins or banknotes, any branch of the Bank of Spain is available to citizens, subject to a series of conditions.
– The Banco de España accepts up to 2,000 coins per person per day, if they are
carried separately by value, or up to 200 without separating them. The branches in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Zaragoza have special machines where you can change up to 2,000 coins without separating them.
– In case you need to receive coins, the Banco de España can deliver a maximum of 1,000 coins per person in standard packaging and/or 200 unpackaged coins.
– In the case of banknotes, there is no limitation: you can deliver as many as you need to exchange. If, on the other hand, the person needs to obtain them, the Banco de España guarantees at least 100 banknotes of each value. Exceptionally, and in order to guarantee a good service to all applicants, the institution could restrict the exchange of large amounts of banknotes during a reasonable period of time or limit the number of operations to one per day, according to the institution.
– When the amount to be exchanged is equal to or greater than 1,000 euros, the person must identify themselves with their ID card, passport or residence card, although such identification may also be requested if the amount is less than 1,000 euros.
– The exchange of banknotes and coins for others of different value can be made by appointment at any of the branches of the Banco de España. In Malaga, it is located at Avenida Cervantes, 3, and the appointment can be made here [ https://cita-previa-bde.clorian.com/en/608-malaga ]. The case against the Attorney General gains momentum this week with 13 new witnesses: {Translation, summary}
– The investigation against the state attorney general for alleged disclosure of secrets in the Supreme Court will gain momentum from this week with the
testimony of witnesses, including Miguel Angel Rodriguez {pic}, chief of staff of the president of Madrid, Isabel Diaz Ayuso, at the proposal of the investigated.
– Álvaro García Ortiz and the chief prosecutor of Madrid, Pilar Rodríguez, also charged, requested through the State Attorney’s Office the testimony of Miguel Rodríguez considering that there are indications that he leaked to the press the emails between the defense of Ayuso’s boyfriend, Alberto González Amador, and the prosecutor of Economic Crimes Julián Salto, who was investigating him for alleged fraud against the Treasury. The investigating magistrate, Ángel Hurtado, agreed to his summons as a witness, which will take place this Wednesday.
– It will be the first of a series of testimonies, among which are also scheduled those of eight journalists, also from Wednesday, who on March 13 reported a pact between the Prosecutor’s Office and the defense of Gonzalez Amador.
– The testimonies proposed by the investigated come days after the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard issued a report concluding that García Ortiz delivered to the security forces during the search in his office of the Attorney General’s Office on October 30 a mobile phone other than the one he used on the dates analyzed and which would contain the messages with Pilar Rodríguez. This, after a previous report of the same unit in which it was concluded that in the handset that García Ortiz did deliver, and that he would have acquired on October 23, there were “zero messages”.
– The prosecutor of Economic Crimes Julián Salto and the senior prosecutor of Madrid, Almudena Lastra, are also summoned as witnesses on January 16. The heads of communication of the General Prosecutor’s Office and of the Madrid Prosecutor’s Office have also been called as witnesses. In their case, for January 21. Photo: Jaime Garcia. Austrian Far-Right Leader Kickl Gets Chance to Form Government:
– More than three months after winning the most seats at federal elections, far-right leader Herbert Kickl is on track to become the Freedom Party’s first Austrian chancellor in a tie-up with the conservative People’s Party.
– Kickl, 56, is set to meet President Alexander Van der Bellen at 11 a.m. in Vienna on Monday to discuss forming a government. In an about-face, the conservatives said on Sunday they’re ready to start talking. A Kickl government would be the first led by the far-right party in post-World War Two Austria. The People’s Party has for decades sought to keep it at bay by forming coalitions with the Social Democrats and other groups, or by inviting its members to participate as junior partners. UK’s Starmer defends record over child sex gangs after Elon Musk’s criticism:
– Keir Starmer defended his work as Britain’s top prosecutor on Monday, refusing to mention U.S. billionaire Elon Musk by name but addressing Musk’s criticism that, long before he became prime minister, he had failed to prosecute gangs who sexually abused girls.
– Musk, an ally of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, has spent days posting messages on his social media site X accusing Starmer of what he said was a failure to prosecute gangs of men, mostly of a South Asian background, who raped young girls when he was director of public prosecutions between 2008 and 2013.
– Starmer {pic} declined to address some of Musk’s other messages on X – including a
poll asking whether the United States should liberate the UK from its “tyrannical government” – but strongly defended his record as DPP, saying he had overcome resistance to tackling the allegations by reopening cases. Saying he was making a more general point rather than directly addressing Musk’s comments, Starmer also defended his safeguarding minister Jess Phillips, whom Musk described as a “rape genocide apologist” in another message. Canada PM Trudeau is likely to announce resignation, source says:
– Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau {pic} is increasingly likely to announce he intends to step down, though he has not made a final decision, a source familiar with Trudeau’s thinking said on Sunday. The source spoke to Reuters after the Globe and Mail reported that Trudeau was expected to announce as early as Monday that he would quit as leader of Canada’s ruling Liberal Party after nine years in office. The source requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
– Trudeau’s departure would leave the party without a permanent head at a time when polls show the Liberals will badly lose to the official opposition Conservatives in an election that must be held by late October.
– Sources told the Globe and Mail that they did not know definitely when Trudeau would announce his plans to leave but said they expect it would happen before a emergency meeting of Liberal legislators on Wednesday. An increasing number of Liberal parliamentarians, alarmed by a series of gloomy polls, have publicly urged Trudeau to quit. BREAKING NEWS– Embattled Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau calls it quits:
– Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Monday he is resigning after nearly a decade in office following mounting calls for him to step down and “internal battles” within his left wing party. The 53-year-old, who has been in power since 2015, said he plans to stay in his post until his ruling Liberal Party chooses a replacement in the wake of his stunning fall from grace.
– “It has become obvious to me, with the internal battles, that I cannot be the one to carry the liberal standard into the next election,” he added. The announcement comes after an embattled Trudeau was hit with a barrage of calls to quit in recent weeks in the wake of a slew of alarming polls indicating dwindling support.
– Grim polling has shown that his party would lose badly to the opposing Conservative Party, led by rival Pierre Poilevre, with him still at the helm for the next election, which has to be held by late October. Canada’s Parliament, which had been due to resume Jan. 27, will now be suspended until March 24 – allowing the Liberal Party to hold a “robust, nationwide competitive” leadership race to replace him, Trudeau said. He added that he had already asked the president of his party to begin the process of selecting a new leader. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
The SEPE is looking for unemployed people who want permanent employment and teleworking with salaries of up to 2,500 euros: {Translation, summary}
– The State Public Employment Service is looking for unemployed people through 24,984 active offers from companies that want to urgently expand their workforce.
– These vacancies are for a wide range of different sectors, such as health, mechanics, customer service, care for the elderly, administration, and so on. In some cases, you can even enjoy bonuses such as free housing or per diems paid by the company.
– Many of these jobs do not have very demanding requirements, so they can be accessed with primary education (EGB, LOGSE) or Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO). However, in each particular case it will be necessary to check the requirements, which depend on the job position to be filled and the company offering the vacancy.
– As regards salary, it should be noted that it varies depending on the job, although the average is between 1,500 and 1,700 euros per month (€10 to €12 per hour for 35hr week), with some job offers paying salaries in excess of 2,000 euros.
– The job offers with permanent contract published by the SEPE are 13,343 in total, of which 79 allow teleworking. However, it is the company itself which decides whether this teleworking can be carried out entirely remotely or in a hybrid modality, i.e., half in the office and the other half remotely.
– To apply for any of these job offers, you have to go to the SEPE’s “Empléate” website [ English version: https://www.empleate.gob.es/empleo/#/ ], where you can use the search bar to select the job position or the desired working conditions, and then go through all the requirements and apply for the offer. If you are selected, you will be contacted by the company in question to continue with the selection process. Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/lainformacion/…

SCAMS
Identity Theft Scams On Rise- The Civil Guard warns about the new scam- charges on your bank account after losing your mobile connection (SIM card hijacking): {Translation}
– The new scam alerted by the Guardia Civil has to do with losing mobile coverage. More and more victims are reporting unknown bank movements while they could not operate with their cell phone. It is the fraudsters who at that moment have taken control of your cell phone, being able to make purchases or ask for bank transactions without you being able to do anything because they have supplanted your identity.
– This new scam requires prior work on the part of cybercriminals. Citizens often fail to protect their personal data as we should and we keep clicking on malicious links in which we end up giving our personal or banking data, or answering calls that end up being a scam and on the way we have revealed personal information.
– With all this data, cybercriminals, pretending to be you, ask your SIM card provider for a duplicate SIM card claiming they require a replacement. They already
have in their possession your full name, address, ID and probably more personal data, and once they get our mobile SIM card in their hands and activate it, your mobile loses coverage. It does not turn off, but it has no connection to the network. From there, the offender will be able to request banking operations that, if confirmed only with an SMS, will have the key to access our account.
– That is why one of the tips given from Guardia Civil against this scam is to start protecting more our passwords and access to bank accounts. One way is to require a fingerprint or facial recognition to perform any operation. It is not the only one. They also ask to periodically review our bank accounts to see if at any time we detect suspicious movements that we have not done ourselves.
– Another piece of advice that both the Guardia Civil and the National Police always insist on is to have strong passwords. In a strong password, do not forget to use both small and capital letters, numbers and punctuation marks. Also, it is very important not to reuse the same password everywhere. {By today’s standards passwords should be at least 16 random characters, with no words or names included. This also demonstrates why secure tasks involving Internet apps are best done on computers rather than smartphones, as no SIM card is involved. -Ed}

Andalusia thus consolidates its strategy to expand air connectivity with these new national and international routes at the airports that the Ministry will maintain during this year to continue growing.

Consumer Affairs reminds that retailers are only obliged to accept returns in case of product defects or faults: {Translation, summary}
– The Directorate General of Consumer Affairs has reminded that, according to current regulations, stores are only obliged to accept returns or exchanges in specific situations. The obligation only exists when the product has defects or faults.
– The acceptance of returns depends on the commercial policy of the establishment. These conditions, which must be communicated in advance, may include options such as the issuance of credit-slips for the amount paid, or may prevent the product from being returned once unsealed. Exceptions to the return of certain products such as underwear, hygiene products, unsealed Blu-Ray discs of films or music CDs, or books may also be established.
– In this regard, the Directorate General of Consumer Affairs warns in a statement that credit-slips, as well as the well-known ‘gift card’, cannot have an expiration date, as that is “an illegal practice”.
– In purchases made at a distance or outside establishments, such as those made on the Internet, the right of withdrawal applies. This right allows the consumer, subject to the exceptions established by the Law, to withdraw from the contract within 14 calendar days from receipt of the product or conclusion of the contract, without the need to justify the reason. This includes the return of the product and reimbursement of the amount paid.
– Consumer Affairs emphasizes that it is essential for consumers to request and keep the receipt or invoice for each purchase, as it will be necessary to manage claims or to make use of the legal guarantee of the product.
– It also recalls that users have the right to denounce misleading advertising practices, such as receiving a product other than the one advertised, and can demand the return of the item or exchange for the advertised product.
– Finally, the Directorate General for Consumer Affairs encourages users to find out about the return conditions before making a purchase and to exercise their rights as consumers in an informed and responsible manner.
