New government food payment cards leave nearly 200,000 Andalusians without basic food items (coverage down 72% from 2023), will require some to travel long distances to even use the cards: {Translation, summary}
– The Junta de Andalucía’s fear has been fulfilled. The new system imposed by the central government for families in vulnerable situations to have access to basic food products, through wallet cards, instead of direct food distribution, has left out about 200,000 Andalusians in 2024.
– The last official data, from the central government, estimated that 280,000 Andalusians received these basic foodstuffs with the direct distribution in 2023, 
before the implementation of these wallet cards, so that if a calculation of four people per family unit is made, the number of Andalusians in vulnerable situations benefited by the new system is only 78,000. In other words, the new system has left out some 200,000 people in vulnerable situations in the region.
– In 2024, a total of only 19,501 Andalusian families (with 4 members each, so 78,000 people), received benefits with the new system, and with that, 17 million of the 18.9 million euros budgeted have been spent. Thus there is a surplus of almost two million euros remaining, yet they have only managed to provide benefits to 78,000 of the 280,000 that previously received them (28%).
– From these statistics we can see the new wallet-card program has been a disgraceful catastrophy for the most vulnerable members of society.
– Another problem is the wallet-cards can only be redeemed in three supermarket chains in Andalusia. The Government has arranged the redemption of these cards with seven supermarket chains of which only three are present in Andalusia. These are Eroski, Carrefour and Alcampo, although these companies are not present in 85% of the Andalusian municipalities and their inhabitants cannot therefore use them. Woman accused of spiking desserts with bleach during her last day of work at Costa del Sol hotel:
– The incident allegedly happened at 8.50pm on 31 May 2023, when the hotel’s buffet service was in progress. It is only now reaching the courts, 19 months after the incident.
– Two hotel guests noticed the manoeuvre. According to what they told the police, they women saw how a waitress approached the dessert cabinet and poured a yellowish liquid on the yoghurt and a tray of pineapple. It was bleach.
– National Police managed to identify the employee who allegedly poured the liquid “with the intention of causing serious damage to the establishment through food poisoning”, as it was her last day of work and she found out that her contract was not going to be renewed, according to the police investigation.
– The woman, aged about 50 and with no previous criminal record, will soon sit in the dock to face a possible court sentence of three years in prison, which is the sentence requested for her actions by the Malaga Public Prosecutor’s Office.
– The prosecution’s case also includes another incident that happened five days earlier, specifically on 26 May. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the defendant handled a bottle of milk from the hotel bar and poured bleach into it, although in this case it was intended for the consumption of workers at the hotel.

This is the deadline to apply for a place in the Imserso Thermalism Program: {Translation}
– Are you an Imserso qualified pensioner and want to receive treatment in one of the many spas in Spain? There is still time. The Imserso keeps open the deadline to apply for a place in its Thermalism Program, specifically, for the second shift that corresponds to the months of September to December 2025. Applications can be submitted until May 15 of this year.
– People applying for a place must be able to carry out basic activities of daily living on their own and must prove that they need the thermal treatments offered in the program. Finally, they must reach the qualification score that allows them to access to one of the spas and shifts requested.
*Services Provided*
– The beneficiaries of the Thermalism Program will be lodged in double rooms of shared use, or with a partner, with full pension. Applicants may be accompanied by their spouse, common-law partner or the person with whom they maintain a stable and cohabitating union, analogous to the conjugal one, without the need for them to meet the required conditions.
– The transport to and from the spas is not included.
– The thermal treatments include an insurance policy, a medical examination upon entering the spa, the thermal treatment prescribed by the medical staff of the spa, medical follow-up, and leisure and free time activities offered free of charge by the spa.
– The applications, together with the responsible declaration that thermal treatment is required, can be submitted telemetrically through the Imserso’s website. The access to the request of this procedure does not require electronic authentication (Cl@ve, electronic certificate or electronic ID) on the part of the interested person.
