Nerja Carnival 2025: Thurs, February 27 thru Sun, March 2
– This year, the Carnival will feature Miguel Hermoso as town crier, who will kick off the festivities on the 27th at the Centro Cultural Villa de Nerja, from 20:00 hours. According to the councilor, Elena Galvez, the proclamation promises to be an evening full of surprises with performances of murgas and lots of fun.
– The events will continue on Friday, February 28 at 17:30 hours with the Children’s Costume Contest, which will be held in a tent located in the parking lot of the Giner de los Rios. At 6:30 p.m., the Children’s Ninfa and Momo Contest will be held, and at 7:30 p.m., this year’s novelty: the Youth Ninfa and Momo Contest. The day will conclude from 21:00 hours with the election of the Momo and the Ninfa of Carnival in the adult category.
– On Saturday, March 1 will take place the expected Grand Carnival Parade, which will begin at 17:00 hours, full of color, music and costumes.
– Finally, on Sunday, March 2, the activities will start at 12:00 noon with the election of the children’s widows and widowers, animated by the popular Amapola and Perdigón. At 17:00 hours, will be held the traditional Burial of Chanquete through the streets of downtown Nerja, which will conclude with a fireworks display on the beach of Calahonda. Justice Gone To The Dogs- Malaga court acquits Marbella animal shelter officials accused of massive animal slaughter:
– The provincial court of Malaga has acquitted officials from the Triple A animal shelter in Marbella, for whom the prosecution demanded a prison sentence for alleged crimes of animal cruelty, falsifying documents, unqualified practice, misappropriation, incorrect administration, contravening the rights of workers and Social Security fraud.
– However, the judgement states that the sentence “is not final and that an appeal may be lodged against it before this court”.
– In his final statement, the prosecutor in charge demanded 18 years of imprisonment for Triple A’s former president (B.P.) and 10 for the vice-president (A.D.), in addition to other fines and civil liabilities. The complaint raised to the court stated that “domestic animals have been sacrificed in a massive and unjustified manner, with the sole purpose of reducing costs and dedicating part of the facilities to private purposes, with the aim of making a profit”. Europe Working On Plans To Send 30,000 Troops To Ukraine As Trump Talks Drawdown:
– European leaders have been urging that the United States must backstop any Ukraine peace deal to prevent the country from ever being attacked by Russia again. Of course, this means a military backstop; however, all signs point to Trump wanting to reduce the American troop presence in Europe, in favor of the Europeans doing more to provide for their own security.
– Some European officials have already attacked this policy as the US signing off on Ukraine’s “surrender” to Moscow. For example, days ago Finnish MEP member Mika Aaltola of the European People’s Party claimed that the Trump administration “has given us three weeks to agree on terms for Ukraine’s surrender.” Aaltola added: “If we don’t, the United States will withdraw from Europe.” These words also came around the time of an NBC News report which cited US officials who said Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth privately informed Ukrainian officials that Washington may significantly reduce its troop presence in Europe.
– This as President Zelensky has been urging against this, recently asserting that over 100,000 European troops could be needed in Ukraine to prevent another future war. He’s described that this would be necessary in the scenario that Ukraine doesn’t get a path to NATO membership.
– Weekend reports indicate that Europe is readying a proposed plan to send at least 30,000 of its troops to Ukraine in a peacekeeping capacity in the wake of any truce deal. The report says this would be “with the US providing technical, logistics, and weapons support” – but crucially no American boots on the ground, as Trump has repeatedly promised.

If your salary is above the salary set in the collective bargaining agreement, your company could apply the “compensation and absorption” mechanism, leaving your salary frozen. These mechanisms work as follows: Compensation- Certain salary items are increased and others are reduced by the same amount. Absorption- Not only are the items adjusted, but some may disappear completely from the payroll. If your agreement has expired and is in the process of renegotiation, the company is not obliged to increase your salary until there is a new agreement.
– Personal income tax withholding:
The percentage of personal income tax withholding may have increased, which affects your net salary. Factors such as a salary increase or changes in your personal situation (e.g. dependent children) may modify the withholding applied by the tax authorities.
– Application of the estimated CPI:
If your salary is updated according to the CPI, the company may have used an estimated CPI in January. If the actual figure is higher, you could receive the difference in the following months. If it is lower, the increase would not be consolidated and you would not have to pay anything back.
– What if your salary has gone down?:
If you notice that your salary has decreased, check the items on which the reduction has been applied. Possible reasons include:
Financial difficulties of the company, which may allow you to opt out of the agreement; also, agreements with the workforce or workers’ representatives.
– It is important to carefully review each item on the payroll to avoid surprises. If you detect any errors or discrepancies, consult your human resources department or a labor consultant.
