Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

SPAIN

Daylight Savings Time Info: {Translation, summary}
– Daylight saving time will officially start on the last Sunday of this month of March and will end on the last Sunday of October. So, if we look at the calendar, it will be Saturday, March 29, when we will have to advance our clocks from 02:00 hours to 03:00 hours. Some devices like computers and smartphones may, or may not, do this automatically. ANDALUCÍA

The Government declares that the new CATE Center for Temporary Shelter of Migrants in Motril is ready for use: {Translation, summary}
– The Government has announced that the new Center for the Temporary Attention of Foreigners (CATE) in Motril is now ready to start operating, once the works that were pending after detecting some deficiencies in the facilities that prevented its use have been completed. The sub-delegate of the Government in Granada, José Antonio Montilla, has pointed out that the last works – some of which were linked to the electrical and security systems – have been completed and “as soon as necessary” these new facilities will be used instead of the old CATE.
– The Ministry of the Interior detected last year, with the work already completed, a series of security deficiencies in the facilities of the new CATE that prevented its opening. These were deficiencies in electrical systems and in other points of the facilities that had to be corrected before the start-up of the center, which, according to the Sub-delegation, can now be a reality. AXARQUÍA

Slight increase in reserves of La Viñuela reservoir in spite of low rainfall in the Axarquia region: {Translation, summary}
– Early in the morning of Tuesday, March 4, coinciding with the beginning of the meteorological spring season, La Viñuela reservoir registered 21.95% of its total capacity. Although the reserves do not increase significantly, at least the last rains are serving to maintain the levels derived from the supply of drinking water to the population.
– The situation, at least, is significantly better than a year ago, when the reservoir had only 13.13 cubic hectometers of water in storage. In any case, the reservoir will remain in an emergency situation due to severe shortage in the face of the drought. It would need at least four more cubic hectometers to lower the alert status from severe shortage. MALAGA PROVINCE

Precipitation alert- yellow warning in Malaga for this Wednesday:
{Translation, summary}
– After the dana that left yesterday heavy rains that reached up to 161 liters per square meter in parts of the province as the Serrania de Ronda, Malaga is preparing to receive a squall that is expected to be quite powerful. It will be a completely different phenomenon to the previous one, with widespread rainfall. Given this scenario, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has just activated a new yellow warning. The warning will be in force in the capital, Costa del Sol and Guadalhorce from 10.00 am this Wednesday and will continue throughout the day with the forecast to record accumulated 40 liters in 12 hours. The state agency raises to 100% the probability of showers from 12.00 accompanied by storms.
– The Aemet forecast for March 5 in Andalusia points to “intervals of very cloudy skies accompanied by scattered showers, without ruling out that in the afternoon they are locally strong and are accompanied by storms in the western third”. In addition, there could be dust in suspension in the Alboran Sea, “may produce deposits of mud”. Temperatures, meanwhile, will remain high with minimums of 12 and maximums of 20 degrees in the case of Malaga where, in addition, will blow strong gusts of up to 30 kilometers per hour, especially in the afternoon. At the moment there are active warnings – in addition to Malaga – in Cadiz and Almeria. In the latter, orange level for accumulated up to 80 liters in 12 hours.
– The territorial delegate of Aemet, Juan de Dios del Pino, explained that Andalusia will feel until Thursday the effects of a dana and then, on Friday, give way to an Atlantic squall that will also leave rainfall throughout the community, “which may occasionally be intense”.
– Already from Friday and, for the moment, at least until next Sunday, a train of fronts will be watering in a staggered manner throughout the geography of Malaga. “It will leave precipitation starting from Huelva that will spread throughout Andalusia. They will be rains of another nature, widespread and persistent,” they point out from Aemet. So much so that throughout this week can accumulate more than 100 liters per square meter in some points. “Together the two phenomena (dana, first, and then Atlantic squall, will leave significant amounts,” says Del Pino.
– The European prediction model points to the area between Marbella, Estepona and the upper Guadalhorce Valley (precisely where the reservoirs are) as the area where more water will accumulate, up to 120 l/m2, according to data provided by this mathematical system. Aemet does not rule out that the rains will extend to the first days of next week, at least until Monday. For now, the probability of showers for that day is 90% in the capital. The new continuous red line of the DGT premiered on this road from Malaga: {Translation, summary}
– The Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) has put into operation on some roads in Spain, a continuous red line, to separate both lanes. This new signaling is intended to reinforce the prohibition of overtaking on this road. One of the first roads to have this red line is the A-355 in Malaga, passing through Coín, which became known as “the road of death” {pic}. After the balance of 2023, in which 10 people died on this road, in 2024, once this line was painted, there were two deaths.
– This road, owned by the Junta de Andalucía, was not only the first in the community to implement this measure, but also at national level. After the premiere on the Malaga road, the DGT took it to Asturias, to the Nalón Corridor (AS-117), a road with a history of accidents. US cuts off military aid to Ukraine after Oval Office spat:
– Ukraine’s president has few options after his astonishing Oval Office row with U.S. President Donald Trump, who berated the wartime leader and later cut off the military aid his country relies on to fight Russia’s invasion.
– American officials have said that they want an apology from Zelenskyy, who has maintained his cool in public appearances since the episode and leaned into European support while also rebuffing calls from U.S. officials to resign. He has even expressed optimism about continued U.S. support.
– As European partners rally around Zelenskyy, Western officials in Kyiv acknowledge that the durability of any peace plan will depend on U.S. military backing.
– Zelenskyy has said he is still ready to sign a lucrative minerals deal with Trump that could be the first step toward a ceasefire. – Since Friday’s confrontation, there has been communication between Ukraine and the administration but not between the two presidents. Signing the deal with the Trump administration for a portion of Ukraine’s natural resources would have paved the way for more agreements on the future of American military aid and the terms of an armistice with Russia. Now all of that is uncertain as Zelenskyy was escorted from the Oval Office confrontation without the minerals deal being signed. Italian PM Meloni Rejects Troop Deployment to Ukraine, Calls it ‘Difficult’ and ‘Ineffective’:
– Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has firmly rejected offers from both France and the United Kingdom to send Italian troops to Ukraine. Speaking to media, Meloni made Italy’s stance clear: “Italy has expressed doubts regarding the proposal of France and the UK on sending European troops. I think it is very difficult to implement, I am not sure about its effectiveness, that’s why we announced that we will not send Italian soldiers to Ukraine.”
– Meloni also addressed the recent public clash between US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and US Vice President JD Vance, describing it as an unusual public dispute. “This is not the kind of debate that is usually held in front of the cameras,” she noted.
– During a European leaders’ summit in London, Meloni warned against divisions within the West. Speaking alongside UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, she stressed, “It is very, very important that we avoid the risk that the West divides.” Full article: https://www.republicworld.com/world-news/italian-prime-minister-meloni-rejects-troop-deployment-to-ukraine-calls-it-difficult-and-ineffective

President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, announces €800,000 million Europe’s Rearmament Plan:
{Translation, summary}
– The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced on Tuesday a new instrument with 150 billion euros in loans to boost defence spending in the European Union, given the need for member states to rearm in the face of the geopolitical turbulence caused by the United States’ rapprochement with Russia to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine.
– ‘The real question before us is whether Europe is prepared to act with the decisiveness that the situation dictates and whether it is ready and able to act with the necessary speed and ambition,’ the EU President said in an unquestioned statement from Brussels on the letter she has sent to European capitals with options for strengthening European defence in the run-up to the extraordinary summit on Thursday.
– According to Von der Leyen, Europe faces an era of ‘rearmament’ in which it must be prepared to massively increase its defence spending, both to support Ukraine and to face the ‘long-term’ need to assume greater responsibility for its security on the continent. Bitcoin plummets $10,000 in a day as crypto leaders trash Trump’s plan:
– Bitcoin is notoriously volatile again, shedding $10,000 in a single day as its price tumbled from $93,000 to $83,000. This is all because of President Donald Trump’s proposal to establish a strategic cryptocurrency reserve, a pivot from his earlier stance of exclusively stockpiling Bitcoin.
– On Tuesday morning, BitCoin is trading at $83,046, representing a loss of over 7% within a single day. Ether, the native token of the Ethereum network, experienced a decline of 9% during the same period. Solana recorded a loss of 12%, while XRP and Cardano dropped by 9% and 12%, respectively.
