The Blackmail Continues- Puigdemont demands from Sanchez 50,000 million Euros for Catalonia to sit down to negotiate budgets: {Translation, summary}
– “First pay, then negotiate”. Junts has once again warned the Government that it will not negotiate the General Budgets until the State settles all the outstanding debt with Catalonia in terms of infrastructure and has put a price on its eventual support. The nationalist formation has put this debt at around 50,000 million, which are in his opinion the budgetary defaults of the last 10 or 15 years of the central administration with Catalonia in the portfolio of investments in infrastructures. “We will not negotiate until the State pays all its debt” with Catalonia, said the spokesman for Puigdemont’s party, Josep Rius {pic}.
– Junts, despite having withdrawn the request that Pedro Sánchez submit to a question of confidence, a demand that strained contacts between the two to the brink of rupture, insists that relations are as always, marked by “distrust”. The confidence has to be earned “piece by piece”, as you fulfill the agreements, Rius has assured. The PP will reform the Senate Regulations to force Sánchez to attend the control session once a month: {Translation, summary}
– The PP will make use of its absolute majority in the Senate to approve an extensive reform of the Rules of Procedure of the Upper House, with the modification of up to 44 articles, with which it will force the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to attend at least one control session per month, among other things.
– According to the text registered by the PP, to which Europa Press has had access, Article 146 is modified to oblige Sánchez to answer questions from the opposition in the Senate at least once a month, unless justified reasons prevent him from doing so. The PP spokeswoman in the Senate, Alicia García, has addressed to all the groups to have “the highest possible degree of agreement”, opening the door to include contributions from other parties.
– This initiative of the PP comes after a year has passed since the last time that Sánchez attended a control session of the Senate. It was on March 12, 2024 when the head of the Executive was submitted for the last and only time to the control of the Upper House so far in the legislature {pic}.
– Since then, a year has passed in which Sánchez has claimed agenda reasons for his absence. In addition, from the Palace of La Moncloa they have pointed out that he does not feel well treated by the Senate, where the PP has an absolute majority after the last elections. {Aww, poor persecuted Pedro. -Ed.} Full article: https://www.europapress.es/nacional/noticia-pp-reformara-reglamento-senado-forzar-sanchez-acudir-vez-mes-sesion-control-20250310135312.html

Sánchez boasts of creating jobs while dodging the economic troubles- the average household now receives €500+ a month in subsidies as the new jobs are mostly low paid civil service work: {Translation}
– In Spain, more and more public services are being provided by the private sector- health, homeless services, migrant support and more. Demographic aging and politicians’ eagerness for public employment and welfare has created an unsustainable hot potato in our country.
– Far from worrying the Government of Pedro Sánchez, this situation is a source of pride for the Executive who boasts of improved employment statistics. In February, the minimum vital income payroll reached 688,007 households in which 2,097,290 people live, according to the latest official statistics. The average amount of the subsidy is 511.2 euros per month per household.
– In addition to these two items, never before in the history of Spain has the productive economy had to sustain such a high level of public employment. Although with the previous PP government this number was also on the rise, since Pedro Sánchez has been in power, the number of civil servants has shot up by 424,000 people to over 3.59 million public employees.
– The three previous items add up to 7.39 million state-paid salaries, to which we must add another record that we have recently learned about: the number of pensioners. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Social Security for February, the number of people receiving a pension exceeded 9.3 million, while the total number of these benefits reached 10.3 million (there are citizens who receive two pensions). Therefore, if we add these 10.3 million to the previous 7.39 million, we see that the result is 17.69 million public benefits. MALAGA PROVINCE

Rain will continue almost all week in Malaga, although with a truce on Wednesday: {Translation, summary}
– It will continue to rain for most of this week in the province of Malaga. This is, roughly speaking, the forecast of the Meteorological Center of Aemet, which still predicts episodes of some intensity from today until Friday.
– Tomorrow (Tuesday) it will also rain but it will be less in the previous areas that received heavy rain this past weekend. Instead, it gains prominence the region of Axarquia according to the director of the Meteorological Center, Jesus Riesco. Additionally, it is more likely to give rough seas along the entire coast of Malaga, with winds from the west and southwest of 50 to 60 km / h (force 7) and waves of 2 meters.
– Wednesday will be the first day since last week with a clear sky. Riesco points out that this will be a “transition day”, with only some minor showers, due to the fact that the Jana squall will leave late Tuesday.
– Looking ahead to Thursday, Aemet expects again moderate and even locally heavy rainfall in the province, due to the arrival to these latitudes of another Atlantic squall, which affects mainly on Thursday and to a lesser extent on Friday, although it will tend to subside.
– During the weekend, the clouds will give a truce and more typical March weather will return in Malaga, with cloudy skies and highs close to 20 degrees. The meteorologist warns that next week may come new storms to the province, although it is still far to make an accurate prediction. VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA

Vehicle trapped by flood waters in Arenas: {Translation}
– Vélez-Málaga’s fire crews were called out to rescue the driver and passengers of a vehicle that had become trapped as the floodwater rose in the Río Seco (dry river) in Arenas in the Axarquía area of Malaga province this Monday 10 March.
– The occupants of the vehicle had managed to get themselves to safety by the time the fire brigade arrived and were not injured. Firefighters proceeded to pull the vehicle out of the river with the help of their all-terrain vehicle. NERJA

The force of “a tornado” causes damage in Nerja: {Translation, summary}
– The situation in Nerja changed in the early hours of Monday morning with an odd phenomenon – they are studying whether it was a tornado or a sea spout – which caused assorted damages in Nerja. The strong wind has knocked down a wall in the Plaza de España, next to the Town Hall. It has also knocked down metal sheets, awnings, chairs, tables, tree branches and roof tiles.
– The phenomenon has not caused personal injuries, but it has generated a stir in social networks, where neighbors have shared images and videos requesting action. This has forced the workers of the Consistory of Nerja to work from very early in the morning to solve these setbacks. Photo: Antonio Montesinos. CALETA DE VELEZ

A worker dies in Caleta de Vélez after falling into a water pool on a golf course: {Translation}
– On the morning of Monday, March 10, around 9.30 am, a 41-year-old worker lost his life in an accident at the golf course Baviera Golf, located in Caleta de Velez. According to the first reports, the man, a maintenance employee, accidentally fell into a pool of water while operating a mowing machine in the upper area of the enclosure.
– The victim, who could not swim, drowned before emergency crews could rescue him. The National Police Corps, local police, firefighters and an underwater unit of the Guardia Civil, which will be in charge of recovering the body, were on the scene. TECH

X outage- Twitter is down for the third time today:
– It’s not just you. X is down (or, Twitter is down, if you prefer). In a real case of the Mondays, X is experiencing its third outage of day, with thousands of users all over the globe reporting problems.
– The first huge spike of users reporting ‘X is down’ was at 2.30am PDT / 5.30am EDT, and while the service appeared to be back online, reports skyrocketed once again at 6.30am PDT / 9.30am EDT.
– Users are experiencing issues with both the X website and the X app. Some users are reporting the service was downright inaccessible; others complain about slow loading times. {I found that after some difficulty logging in, once in I was able to see posts, yet unable to see the comments for any posts, and the search box was broken. A few other major websites also seem to be misbehaving. -Ed.} Full article: https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/x-twitter-is-down-right-now-march-2025/#dt-heading-x-outage-live-blog-latest-twitter-is-down-updates

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)

20minutos & Maldita, both major Spanish news outlets, expose that they use AI written articles, and probably AI webpage editors as well: {DigameXtra}
– It must be human error, no AI is this stupid. Today 20minutos posted a news article, credited to “Maldita”, that included this first line: “To the WhatsApp chatbot of Maldita.es (+34 644 *** ***) you have asked about an SMS that is allegedly from the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT), notifying an alleged fine of 50 euros for speeding. It is a scam in which they try to impersonate the Directorate.” AI then provides a detailed reply to the question in the remainder of the article. [https://www.20minutos.es/noticia/5689075/0/como-quieren-timar-sms-falso-dgt-sobre-supuesta-multa-maldita/]
– So someone at 20minutos copied this article word for word from another news outlet, Maldita.com, which from the look of it is the Spanish equivalent of The Sun UK newspaper. Clearly Maldita sourced this article from the AI driven WhatsApp chatbot. Evidently neither editors at 20minutos, or Maldita, noticed the AI prompt info from the chatbot in the opening line. Very sloppy. Perhaps they are not only using AI to write their articles, but also to edit their websites? Or are they intentionally signalling to readers that you will now be provided with robot written articles regularly, and maybe exclusively? In any case, this tarnishes their credibility as reliable sources of original reporting. PIC
