Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

SPAIN
Feijóo accuses Sánchez not to have a specific plan on defense spending and attempting to “dodge” Congress: “I don’t know how much you want to spend, or how you want to pay it”: {Translation, summary}
– The meeting held this Thursday between the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the leader of the PP and the opposition, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, did not serve to reach any agreement regarding the position that Spain should maintain in the new geopolitical context, but it did show that the distance that exists between the two leaders is sidereal, also in a matter as serious as this one. After the meeting, which lasted barely half an hour, Feijóo assured that he left the Moncloa the same way he arrived: “Without any information” about the plans of the Executive. And he accused Sánchez of not having “any concrete plan” to strengthen defense, since he did not inform him “neither how much he wants to spend nor how he wants to pay for it”.
– The PP leader appeared in Congress to give an account of a meeting convened in a framework that, he pointed out, is very serious. “The EU is in a very compromised situation, potentially the most dangerous since its foundation, representative democracies, the foundations of the free market and peace are at risk,” listed Feijóo, who said that ”hiding or ignoring the truth would be a tragic mistake, and doing it for partisanship a folly.” And that is exactly what Sanchez has the “temptation” to do, denounced the deputy, who argued that “any responsible government that respects the citizens would have appeared weeks ago, would have come with concrete information and would have sought the support of the leader” of the opposition.
– Feijóo, as he explained, conveyed to the president three ideas that concern him. “The first is that the security of Europe is threatened by an aggressor power”, Russia, ‘which does not hide its expansionist will’. The second, he said, that “the current U.S. administration has shown its intention to reduce its commitment to defense in Europe” and is putting “free trade at risk.” And the third, that Spain, in the face of this new international scenario, “has the obligation not to disengage under any circumstances”. “Europe has to rearm itself, Spain has to do it too, and each State has to strengthen itself with solid and coherent governments”, said the leader of the PP.
– In his opinion, however, “in Spain neither one nor the other is happening: we have neither a solid government nor a defense plan”. Because that is the main complaint of the PP: that the Executive is not yet clear on how to approach the reformulation of its security policy. “I have asked the president how the spending is going to be financed, whether with more taxes from the citizens or with a readjustment of the current spending”, and ‘I have not received any answer’, denounced Feijóo, who criticized that Sánchez has not proposed to elaborate this plan in common with the PP given that ‘the challenge we face transcends this legislature, this Government and him’.
– The leader of the opposition said he was “willing to negotiate” with the Executive his support for the reorientation of the defense policy “as long as the substance and the form are serious and clean”, something that, he said, for now is not happening. “The President of the Government has not asked me for the support of the PP, but he cannot ask me for support for something he has not specified”, said Feijóo, who admitted that, ‘as things stand’, he sees it ‘difficult’ to reach an agreement on this matter between the two major parties, although it would be ‘very convenient’.
***The PP calls for a vote in Congress***
– “We are prepared to dialogue if the Government shows respect for the majority force of the country”, but for now there has been from the Moncloa ‘neither willingness to dialogue nor respect’, lamented the president of the PP. And that is so, he maintained, because “it is not serious to dispatch in 30 minutes matters of this magnitude”. “I can not tell you that today the president of the Government and I have had a working meeting, because it has been intended to dispatch the first party of Spain with a coffee,” denounced Feijóo, who asked Sanchez ‘seriousness’, ”much more than I have seen this morning.”
– That seriousness passes, as the opposition leader also pointed out, by holding a debate in Congress and because the Lower House votes any increase in defense investment. “We are talking about billions of euros of increased spending on defense, security and sovereignty, and it is the Congress where the groups should pronounce themselves,” said Feijóo, who insisted that ‘all decisions should be endorsed by the representatives of national sovereignty,’ as ‘the manual of any democrat’ says. “The time has come to move forward without hesitation towards autonomy in defense of Europe, without abandoning cooperation with the United States”, but ‘only this Congress has the capacity to control and approve revenues and expenditures’, he reminded. AXARQUÍA
Heavy rains cause traffic cuts on two roads in the Axarquia region, as of 1pm Thursday: {Translation}
– The heavy rains that are being recorded since the early hours of Thursday morning in the Axarquia already have their consequences on the road network of the eastern region. The flooding of two streams has forced the temporary closure of two roads in the hamlet of Triana veleña and in the northern part of the town center of Velez.
– Specifically, the considerable increase in the flow of the stream of La Moneda, which crosses the town of Triana, has cut the local road MA-3113, which connects the A-356 with the towns of Benamargosa, Cútar and Comares. The alternative for drivers is to make a detour through Almáchar and El Borge or Riogordo to reach Comares. The Guardia Civil keeps the road closed and has signposted the area in Triana.
– For its part, in the town of Velez has cut the A-7205, by the flooding of the Mineral Creek, the road that connects with the hamlet of El Trapiche. In addition, the esplanade next to the wholesale market has been flooded.
– In rural areas there are damaged lanes in Los Íberos, Cajiz, Loma del Sapo and Rábita de Almayate. However, the councilman of Infrastructure, Jesús María Claros (PP), has clarified that they have no evidence that there are neighbors cut off, as stated in the Cadena Ser in the Axarquia.
– For its part, in the A-7206, which connects Algarrobo with Competa, there have been several landslides, although the passage is not cut. Finally, the Infrastructure Area has carried out an action in the hamlet of Lagos, removing stones from the slope to prevent landslides and ensure safety on the old N-340. GRANADA
The Sierra Nevada ski resort remains closed by the effects of Konrad: {Translation}
– The ski resort of Sierra Nevada, in Monachil, in the metropolitan area of Granada, will remain closed this Thursday due to the weather conditions of the Konrad squall. The activities Mirlo Blanco and Trineo Mirlo remain open to the public.
– This is stated in the snow report of the Andalusian ski resort, consulted by Europa Press, after early Thursday morning warned through social networks that the opening was delayed by “adverse weather conditions”, which have finally prevented it from opening its doors.
– All this after that in recent days the winter resort has accumulated “very important” thicknesses after a succession of snowfalls mainly in the upper half of the skiable domain, and that from Cetursa, the public company that manages the winter resort, has stressed the importance of not skiing off-piste due to the high risk of avalanches. Avalanches such as those that occurred in an off-piste area known as the ‘Ascensor’ last Tuesday, and in the Tajos de la Virgen this Wednesday, when technicians inspected the area of the Laguna de la Yegua, where the new minimum thickness exceeded one meter of snow, as detailed to Europa Press sources of Cetursa Sierra Nevada. Putin Rejects US Temporary Ceasefire Plan, Appears In Military Fatigues:
– Russia has rejected the US-proposed 30-day ceasefire which came out of the Jeddah meeting with Ukraine, describing that it would only allow Ukrainian forces to regroup. “This is nothing other than a temporary time-out for Ukrainian soldiers, nothing more. Our goal is a long-term peaceful resolution,” Yuri Ushakov, a senior aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, told Russian state television. “Steps that imitate peaceful actions are not needed.” He further expressed that it would “give nothing” to Russia.
– The Russian leader had on Wednesday visited Kursk region for the first time since Ukraine’s incursion there and holding of territory which began in August. “Our immediate goal is as soon as possible to conclusively destroy the enemy entrenched on the territory of Kursk region,” Putin said.
– The optics and symbolism were not lost on Russia’s enemies, as Putin was dressed in military fatigues as he addressed top generals, which is a rarity.

Poland’s president urges U.S. to move nuclear warheads to Polish territory:
– Poland’s president has called on the U.S. to transfer nuclear weapons to its territory as a deterrent against future Russian aggression, the Financial Times reported on Thursday.

Trump threatens a 200% tariff to wine and other EU alcoholic beverages: {Translation, summary}
– The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has threatened Thursday to impose “shortly” a 200% tariff on all wines and alcoholic products from countries represented by the European Union (EU) if Brussels does not withdraw “immediately” the announced 50% levy on American whiskey.
– In a publication in the Truth Social network, the tenant of the White House has accused the EU of being one of the most hostile and abusive fiscal and tariff authorities in the world, “created for the sole purpose of taking advantage of the United States”. In this regard, he has warned that if the EU does not “immediately” eliminate the 50% tariff on whiskey from the US, it will soon impose a 200% tariff “on all wines, champagnes and alcoholic products from France and other countries represented by the EU”. “This will greatly benefit the U.S. wine and champagne sector,” Trump has assured.
– The European Union announced yesterday that it will impose tariffs worth up to 26 billion euros on a wide range of products from the United States from next April in response to the “unjustified” tariffs of 25% that the new Administration of Donald Trump applies since yesterday on imports of European steel and aluminum. Keir Starmer announces he is scrapping NHS England:
– Keir Starmer has announced he is abolishing NHS England and in order to bring the NHS back under direct political control.
During a speech announcing public sector reform plans, the prime minister said he would be scrapping the “arms-length body NHS England,” the BBC reports. “I’m bringing management of the NHS back into democratic control, by abolishing the arms-length body NHS England,” he says.
– He added this will “put the NHS back at the heart of government where it belongs.” The Labour leader argued that scrapping NHS England will avoid excessive duplication between NHS England and the Department for Health and Social Care.
– In a piece for the Telegraph on Wednesday, Starmer said the measures were designed to tackle an “overcautious flabby state.” Along with scrapping NHS England, the PM vowed to modernise the civil service and promised an increasingly prominent role for artificial intelligence.

Apple Wants The AI Super-snoop Active On your iPhone- Apple’s forcing your iPhone to turn Apple Intelligence on again:
– If you had previously disabled Apple Intelligence, you might want to double-check your settings. The latest iOS update looks to have re-enabled the service for many users, just like previous updates- a bug that has bothered Apple users since it began.
– Disabling Apple Intelligence can clear up as much as 7GB of data on your iPhone, and for users with less storage capacity, that’s nothing to scoff at. Suddenly losing that much storage to an optional feature is an annoyance, but you can disable it again. You just have to repeat the process in your settings.
– The update to iOS 18.3.2 was a necessity, as it contained a security fix that left your phone vulnerable to intrusion. If you haven’t updated yet, it’s a good idea to do so as soon as possible. Just remember to disable Apple Intelligence after you’re done. It’s as simple as going into Settings > Apple Intelligence and flipping the toggle.
– The update also applies to iPads- as does the potential to save space- so if your iPad is compatible with Apple Intelligence, you’ll need to adjust your settings there as well.
– With any luck, Apple will change its update strategy so your device retains the same settings as before the update. It’s also possible that Apple Intelligence has to be reenabled for the update to be properly applied, but again, it seems a relatively trivial matter for the update to remove it after the necessary changes had been made {strongly suggesting Apple wants it turned on}.
– The update itself is small in size, barely over 700MB, so it won’t demand much bandwidth. Full article: https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/apples-forcing-your-iphone-turn-apple-intelligence-on-again/
