Spring Concert- Mediterranean Chamber Orchestra:
Sunday, 30 March, 7pm
House Of Culture Granada Puerta, 19, 18690 Almuñécar
The overture of the concert could not be other than Vivaldi’s famous Primavera from his Concerto No. 1 in E Major, a work always heard and always loved. It will be followed by the Bachianas Brasileiras by Héctor Villalobos, of whom Alejo Carpentier said: he is one of the few artists of ours who is proud of his American sensibility and does not try to denaturalise it. For once, he is a palm tree who thinks like a palm tree, without dreaming of Nordic pines. After Eduardo Toldrá’s well-known work Vistas al Mar with the subtitle Evocaciones Poéticas, a work inspired by Joan Maragall’s poem La Ginesta, the concert will close with another Primavera, in this case Piazolla’s Primavera Porteña. An unbeatable programme that will delight the audience. Info & tix (€15): https://bravoentradas.es/es/events/concierto-de-primavera-orquesta-camara-mediterranea

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

ANDALUCÍA
The towns in Andalusia where it has rained the most Monday PM to Tuesday AM: {Translation}
– While it seems that the squall ‘Laurence’ is slowly dissipating, the State Meteorological Agency warns that we will continue under the umbrellas until the arrival of ‘Martinho’ in the coming days. However, the Aemet’s assessment of this month of March, and of the period so far this rainy year, which begins on 1 October, is that it is wetter than normal.
– Guadalhorce Valley. In this respect, the early hours of 18 March were once again wet, with several municipalities in the province of Malaga heading the Top 10. The town of Coín, located in the Guadalhorce Valley, is the Andalusian town where it rained the most during the night, with a total of 55.4 litres accumulated.
– In second place is Benahavis, with 48.4 litres accumulated at 08:00 this morning.
– In third place, Vélez-Málaga, with 44 litres, followed by Algarrobo with 45.8 litres.
– Close to these municipalities is the mountains of Cádiz, as Grazalena has accumulated up to 38.4 litres this morning, while the Guanuño reservoir in Córdoba has accumulated up to 34.2 litres.
– Nerja is in 7th place in the Andalusian ranking for the most rainfall in the last few hours, with a total of 27.6 litres accumulated; followed by Rincón de la Victoria, with 27.2 litres; Málaga city, with 26.2 and Jimena de la Frontera, (Cádiz) with 25.2 litres registered.
– The province of Seville appears only at number 14 on the list with the heaviest rainfall in the last few hours, in the municipality of Cazalla de la Sierra, with a total of 24.3 litres accumulated, followed by Guadalcanal, with 24.2 litres.
– Roads impassable. The DGT warns that there are more than 40 roads where it is impossible to circulate, in the whole of the peninsular territory, many of them in Andalusia.
– The authorities remind the population of the importance of consulting the official social networks of the competent bodies such as Emergencias 112 Andalucía, Junta de Andalucía, the town councils of the different localities, when it comes to finding out about incidents. Benamargosa, Cútar, Almáchar, El Borge and Comares are again without water supply from El Trapiche: {Translation}
– The damage to the general pipeline caused by the rains of Tuesday, March 18, due to the flooding of the Benamargosa river has again left Benamargosa, Cútar, Almáchar, El Borge and Comares without water supply.
– The company Axaragua, dependent on the Mancomunidad de Municipios, has to assess the damage and while the four towns have already asked to take water by bucket trucks from the water treatment plant of El Trapiche, as reported by Eugenio Cabezas in SUR.
– The current flow of the Benamargosa river prevents an assessment of the damage. Responsible and moderate use of water is requested.
– In Benamargosa at 19.00 hours the water supply will be cut off and will open at 8.00 hours. In Almáchar from 21:00 to 8:00 hours. In El Borge from 18:00 hours to 8:00 hours. MALAGA PROVINCE
Aemet warns of the entrance of a new storm in Malaga from Thursday: {Translation}
– The passage of the Laurence squall has left more than 90 litres of rain in the last 12 hours in several areas of Malaga (specifically in Benahavís and Casasola). On Monday, an orange warning was issued in several areas of the province, and in Malaga city, around 400 homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure in the district of Campanillas, an area of the capital which woke up flooded. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has warned of the arrival of a new squall, christened Martinho, which will affect from Thursday.
– This is the fourth Atlantic squall to cross the peninsula in 12 days, after Jana, Konrad and Laurence. This Wednesday will be a day of transition, the Aemet forecasts a rise in the thermometers (on the coast it will reach 20 degrees), and that it will not be marked by rainfall. Although on Tuesday, rainfall forecasts are decreasing since the end of the orange warnings that were activated yesterday afternoon.
***How ‘Martinho’ will affect Malaga***
– In principle, there are no active weather warnings for Thursday in the province of Malaga. The Aemet forecast maps show that the rain forecast for Thursday will be concentrated in the second half of the day, from 18:00 hours onwards. Meteorology points out that ‘widespread rainfall is forecast, which will spread from west to east, and which may be locally heavy and persistent in the western half’, as well as being accompanied by thunderstorms. With regard to temperatures, maximum temperatures on the coast will reach 22 degrees Celsius in Malaga, and 19 in inland areas such as Antequera. The minimum will be around 15 degrees on the coast and 11 degrees inland.
– For the time being, the water situation will extend into Friday, a day on which rain is also forecast, although the probability of rain will be decreasing. In addition, the thermometers begin to drop, on the coast, the maximum to 19, and the minimum to 13. And in the interior, Antequera expects maximums of 16 and Ronda of 13, and minimums around 8 degrees. VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA
Velez-Malaga takes a new step towards implementing the rubbish tax: {Translation, summary}
– It has not been in 2025 but it will be in 2026. The bipartite government team of PP and GIPMTM in the Town Hall of Vélez-Málaga has taken a decisive step to implement the new rubbish tax, which in the capital of the Axarquia, with almost 86,000 registered residents, has not been paid for more than two decades, since it was included in the IBI bill.
– Thus, the Local Government Board has given the green light this Monday to the regulation, which will still have to be debated in a plenary session. Although its implementation is compulsory throughout Spain, as the corresponding municipal tax ordinance was not even initially approved before 31 December 2024, it will not be able to come into force this year. MIGRATION IN SPAIN
Catalan blackmailers get their way- the Sanchez administration once again bows to the wishes of the Junts, agree on the distribution of migrant minors, 700 for Madrid and 30 for Catalonia: {Translation, summary}
– The Sanchez administration has reached an agreement with Junts {pic} to reform article 35 of the Law on Foreigners for the distribution of migrant minors, which would include the distribution of minors who are now in territories under pressure from migratory pressures, as is the case of the Canary Islands which has more than 5,000 children and adolescents awaiting relocation, according to government sources. The other autonomous communities have expressed outrage that they were not involved in this negotiation which directly effects them, and appears to give Catalonia a better deal than others.
– According to Junts, of this distribution, Catalonia would receive between 20 or 30, while Madrid would receive 700.
– {These Catalans sure do get a lot of benefits for the 7 investiture votes the Junts hold that keep Sanchez in power. -Ed.}

UK
UK Benefits overhaul will be fair, insists Kendall:
– The work and pensions secretary has insisted her planned overhaul to benefits rules will be fair, as Labour MPs wait for details of expected welfare cuts. Liz Kendall said the plans, to be published on Tuesday, would put rising benefits expenditure on a “sustainable footing”.
– The government insists changes are required to reduce ballooning spending on health benefits, which are predicted to continue rising in the coming years. But the move has faced opposition with Labour ranks, and has already led charities to warn of the potential impact on vulnerable claimants.
– Ministers have already abandoned plans for a one-year freeze to PIP payments, after disquiet from MPs. It is thought that instead the changes … will now focus on eligibility for PIP, which recipients claim following an assessment to help meet daily living costs from long-term physical or mental health conditions. Speaking in the Commons, Social Security Minister Sir Stephen Timms said the package would look to tackle “incentives to inactivity” in the system. Although he did not offer details, he said the government’s proposed changes would promote more “personalised support” to help those on benefits find employment opportunities. MIDDLE EAST
Israeli strikes kill over 400 in Gaza, say Palestinians, ceasefire on brink:
– Israeli airstrikes pounded Gaza and killed more than 400 people, Palestinian health authorities said on Tuesday, in an onslaught that ended weeks of relative calm after talks to secure a permanent ceasefire stalled.
– Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas each accused the other of breaching the truce, which had broadly held since January, offering respite from war for the 2.3 million inhabitants of Gaza, where most buildings have been reduced to rubble.
– Hamas, which still holds 59 of the 250 or so hostages Israel says the group seized in its October 7, 2023 attack, accused Israel of jeopardising efforts by mediators to negotiate a permanent deal to end the fighting, but the group made no threat of retaliation.
– Netanyahu said earlier he ordered strikes because Hamas had rejected proposals to secure a ceasefire extension, and pledged to step up military action. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/israeli-military-conducts-strikes-hamas-targets-gaza-army-says-2025-03-18/

Football News- Lionel Messi removed from Argentina squad for World Cup qualifiers as statement issued:
– Lionel Messi has been left out of Argentina’s squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers. The Albiceleste captain, who lifted the trophy in 2022, has not been included by boss Lionel Scaloni for the matches against Uruguay and Brazil.
– The 37-year-old’s club, Inter Miami, have announced that their talisman has a “low-grade” adductor injury. “Messi underwent an MRI (scan) this morning to assess the extent of the discomfort in his adductor region, which he experienced during last night’s match against Atlanta United,” read a club statement. “The examination’s findings confirmed the presence of a low-grade injury in the adductor muscle. His clinical progress and response to treatment will determine his availability for competition.”

SCAMS
National Police warn of new fraud as false summons notifications received around Spain:
– “Dear citizen, you are formally notified to report to the central department of the National Police in connection with the file…” So begins the email that has been sent en masse to thousands of addresses in recent days. The sender is the domain @policia (fiscaliageneral @ policia.es or other similar usernames) and the subject line is ‘Notificación oficial’ (official notification) followed by a long ‘expediente’ case file number. Enough to make anyone wonder whether the mail is real or not. It is not, it is a new fraudulent campaign, but unlike other scams, in this case there are no spelling mistakes or bad wording, which gives the text an air of credibility.
– The email does not detail the reason why the citizen has the supposed file open and it is precisely this curiosity that invites you to click on the attached link: “To access the complete documentation, click on the following secure link.” The link leads to a download file with malicious content and it is the National Police force itself that has warned that this is a massive phishing campaign. “Do not click on the link, because it could infect your computer: do not provide data and delete it,” insist the police.
