Small Issue Today Due To Severe Allergies: Sorry, the latest rains brought with them my annual Spring allergy attack. This time seems far worse than usual. My face, and especially my eyes, are very swollen and sore, plus fever & body aches. The meds don’t seem to be very effective this season. DigameXtra is closed this coming Monday so I have the long weekend to wait it out. Hopefully we’ll be back on track for next Tuesday. -Ed.

Fiestas in honor of St. Joseph in Triana (Velez-Malaga): 22 March

Competea and Periana host the ‘La Liebre de Marzo’ festival:
– The festival ‘La Liebre de Marzo’ (The March Hare) returns to bring sacred and ancient music to emblematic places of the Axarquia. The eleventh edition of the festival will be held on Saturdays, 22 and 29 March with the Malaga Baroque Orchestra, the Con Fuoco Quartet, the Spinto Quartet and the Maestro Iribarren Music Chapel.
– All concerts will start at 12.30 p.m. and will be free admission until full capacity is reached.
– Cómpeta: 22 March. The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Cómpeta will host the concert of Cuartero Spinto, formed by violinists Juan Jesús Navarro and Caridad Martos, violist Olga López and cellist Cristóbal Prieto.
– Periana: 29 March. The series will end on March 29 at the Church of San Isidro Labrador in Periana with the Capilla de Música Maestro Iribarren, a group named after Juan Francés de Iribarren, who was Chapel Master of the Cathedral of Malaga from 1733 until his death.

Malaga Guitar Orchestra: Sat 22 March, 8pm
Villa de Nerja Cultural Center, C/ Granada 45, Nerja
A journey through the sonorous universe of songs. The presented program will explore the German and Spanish liederistic traditions. We will travel to 19th century Germany, where lied (“song”) was established as a prestigious genre by composers such as Schubert and Mendelssohn, and to early 20th century Spain, where folklore and traditional melodies were recovered. In this case, works by Manuel de Falla.

Flamenco Culture Event- Alejandro Estrada’s Tabanquería
Sat, 29 March, 8pm
Villa de Nerja Cultural Center, C/ Granada 45, Nerja
The stage becomes the traditional meeting point of Flamenco, El Tabanco where artists and fans will gather to spend some time of art. Good company, good wine and good Flamenco were the essential elements for a good party in these emblematic typical spaces of Andalusia and, especially, in Jerez de la Frontera. This show seeks to revive this tradition, which has practically disappeared.

– With pollen records of up to 20,000 grains per cubic meter in areas of Extremadura that would mark “historic and unprecedented” record of pollen concentration, the Spanish Society of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (SEAIC) predicts for 2025 an early, intense and prolonged allergic spring in Spain. It will extend until June.
– According to the SEAIC forecast, the concentration of grass pollen will be extreme this year in the south of the peninsula, especially in the areas of Badajoz, Cáceres, Seville and Jaén. In Cáceres the predictions speak of up to 19,000 grains per cubic meter, more than double the high concentrations recorded a year ago, which did not exceed 9,000. Experts also speak of an “intense” spring in the center of the peninsula in areas such as Toledo and Ciudad Real (with concentrations of 6,000 grains per cubic meter of grass). Renfe increases the supply of seats Malaga-Barcelona with two new direct AVE trains as of April 8: {Translation}
– Renfe, from April 8, improves connections between Andalusia, Madrid and Catalonia with the launch of two new AVE Malaga-Barcelona trains, one in each direction, with daily departures except Saturdays.
– From Malaga this new AVE will depart at 14.58 hours and will end its route in Barcelona Sants at 20.34 hours, with an intermediate stop in Madrid. From Barcelona, it will depart at 08.00 hours, arriving in Malaga at 14.23 hours, with intermediate stops at the stations of Tarragona, Lleida, Zaragoza, Calatayud, Madrid and Cordoba.
– These new services will be added to the schedule already offered by the company between Malaga and Catalonia and that from Tuesday April 8 will rise to 51 direct AVE trains a week. In addition, Renfe offers numerous travel options combined, under a single ticket and guaranteed link, have indicated in a statement.
