Spring Concert- Mediterranean Chamber Orchestra:
Sunday, 30 March, 7pm
House Of Culture Granada Puerta, 19, 18690 Almuñécar
The overture of the concert could not be other than Vivaldi’s famous Primavera from his Concerto No. 1 in E Major, a work always heard and always loved. It will be followed by the Bachianas Brasileiras by Héctor Villalobos, of whom Alejo Carpentier said: he is one of the few artists of ours who is proud of his American sensibility and does not try to denaturalise it. For once, he is a palm tree who thinks like a palm tree, without dreaming of Nordic pines. After Eduardo Toldrá’s well-known work Vistas al Mar with the subtitle Evocaciones Poéticas, a work inspired by Joan Maragall’s poem La Ginesta, the concert will close with another Primavera, in this case Piazolla’s Primavera Porteña. An unbeatable programme that will delight the audience. Info & tix (€15): https://bravoentradas.es/es/events/concierto-de-primavera-orquesta-camara-mediterranea

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

SPAIN
More than 20,000 homes for sale in Spain are occupied by squatters- these are the worst-affected areas:
– Spain is a country with a large population, a saturated housing market and many illegal occupiers of properties. According to an analysis by real estate portal Idealista, 2.6% of the homes sold in Spain (20,464) have squatters in them. The phenomenon is becoming a more common issue.
– By region, this is most common in Gerona where 8.8% of houses on the market are occupied by squatters, followed by Murcia (5.5%), Seville (4.7%), Almeria (3.9%) and Malaga (3.8%).
– Looking at absolute numbers in cities, Barcelona leads the ranking with 723 squatted homes for sale during the fourth quarter of 2024, followed by Madrid with 644 homes in the same period. Murcia (390) is in third place, followed by Malaga (286 homes), Seville (272 homes), Valencia (243 homes), Palma (213 homes) and Alicante (176 homes). These eight regional capital cities alone account for 71% of all squatted homes for sale. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/spain/homes-for-sale-with-squatters-20250323081948-nt.html

AXARQUÍA
Board relaxes water savings measures for supply and irrigation in Mediterranean basins with alert in Almería and Axarquía: {Translation, summary}
– The Drought Commission of the hydrographic demarcation of the Andalusian Mediterranean Basins, which was held this Tuesday, has unanimously agreed to generally relax the saving measures in almost all its operating systems, both for urban water consumption and for agricultural irrigation, as a result of the significant improvement in the volumes stored after the rains of recent weeks.
– Currently, as detailed by the Andalusian Executive in a note, the volume of water stored in the reservoirs of the exploitation systems of the hydrographic demarcation of the Andalusian Mediterranean Basins amounts to 597.95 hm3, which represents 51.86 percent of the total capacity and 128.90 percent more than the volume of water stored on the same date last year (261.23 hm3).
– Thus, it has been approved to modify the measures adopted in the extraordinary commission held last December.
– In the Western Costa del Sol system, also in a normal situation and which does not have agricultural use, the maximum allocation for supply is increased from 225 to 250 liters per inhabitant per day.
– In the Guadalhorce-Limonero system (Malaga), in a pre-alert situation, the maximum allocation is increased from 200 liters per inhabitant per day to 225, while, in agricultural use, the irrigation volume is increased from nine to 30 hm3.
– In the Viñuela-Axarquia system, in an alert situation, but very close to pre-alert, it is increased from 200 to 225 liters per inhabitant per day for urban use and in agricultural use, the irrigation volume is increased from three to 12.8 Hm3 (2,000 m3 per hectare per month). This allocation will be supplemented with reclaimed water. MIJAS
Elderly woman beaten up during burglary at her Mijas home:
– The incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday 19 March, although the injured woman was not found until later in the morning. It was a municipal worker who raised the alarm after finding the victim, an octogenarian woman, with her face covered in blood in her home in Mijas. As best she could, the elderly woman recounted that a few hours earlier, during the early hours of the morning, she had been beaten up by two thieves who had entered her home to steal her belongings.
– Allegedly, two foreign men broke into her home to rob her and beat the woman, who said that one of them had also tried to suffocate her by grabbing her by the neck, according to police sources. SPACE
The upcoming partial solar eclipse visible throughout Andalucía:
– During the morning of Saturday 29 March 2025 it will be possible to observe a partial solar eclipse across the whole of Andalucía. In Malaga city the eclipse will be visible from 10.43am to 12.22pm with the moment of greatest vision at 11.28am.
– During such an eclipse, the Sun should never be observed directly with the naked eye or with sunglasses. During a partial eclipse, the Sun is never completely covered by the Moon and therefore looking at it without safe and adequate protection can damage the eyes, just as it would on any other day when there is no eclipse. This Is Why I Refuse To Use Banks: In my case I was blocked from making any withdrawals from my savings account with €2200 in it for 8 months. No explanation, all I was told is the account was blocked and I would receive a letter that never arrived. Eventually had to pay a lawyer €600 to get my money back, no apology and no reimbursement for the lawyer fee. If you listen to the very beginning you will hear the name of the bank mentioned, Santander Bank. Seems like most people have a bank horror story. Episodes just like what you see in the video happen every day in Spain. I know of businesses that this has happened to as well. Imagine the restrictions they will put on your transfers and spending when they force the digital-Euro on us and take away the cash. Not only will they control your spending, there can be geo-restrictions, so you can only spend in your “15 Minute Cities” without advance authorization. Quick out of town trips will be impossible once Agenda 2030 is upon us. X Link
