Sánchez blames the blackout on a sudden loss of 15 gigawatts from which the cause is not yet known: {Translation}
– The power returned at around 4am Tuesday morning in Andalucia, northern regions recovered a couple of hours earlier .
– Sánchez blames the blackout to a sudden loss of 15 gigawatts from which the cause is not yet known. Says from Moncloa that all potential causes are being analyzed “without ruling out any hypotheses”;
– The president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has pointed out that the mass blackout that has left the Iberian Peninsula without light for a good part of this Monday has been due to the loss of 15 gigawatts of energy suddenly, which represents approximately 60% of the country’s demand at that time, although it has not clarified the cause of this event.
– In a statement from La Moncloa after the National Security Council meeting-the second of the day-Sánchez explained that, according to Red Electrica technicians, at 12.33pm “15 generation gigawats have suddenly lost the system in just five seconds”, although he has not been able to specify what has caused it. In any case, he stressed that “all potential causes are being analyzed, without ruling out any hypotheses.”
– The cause of the blackout “is something that specialists have not yet been able to determine, but they will,” said Sánchez, pointing out that competent state institutions and all private operators are working in a coordinated way “to know what has happened”, while indicating that at this time “almost 50%” of the electricity supply has been recovered. Judge charges Pedro Sanchez’s brother with prevarication and influence peddling: {Translation, summary}
– The Badajoz judge investigating Pedro Sánchez’s brother, David Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, for allegedly benefiting from a position at the Badajoz Provincial Council, supposedly created for him in July 2017, has issued an indictment against him, the step prior to putting him on trial. After an extensive investigation involving over a dozen witness and suspect statements, as well as the collection of substantial documentary evidence, supported by the Guardia Civil’s Central Operative Unit (UCO), the judge finds indications of malfeasance and influence peddling against the musician and brother of the Prime Minister, issuing an indictment for these offences.
– Among those indicted for malfeasance and influence peddling, the judge also includes Miguel Ángel Gallardo Miranda, leader of the Badajoz socialists. Source, Spanish: https://www.abc.es/espana/extremadura/juez-procesa-hermano-pedro-sanchez-prevaricacion-trafico-20250428103317-nt.html
VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA
New Home Development Plans Revealed: {Translation, summary}
– The bipartisan PP and GIPMTM government in Vélez-Málaga is prioritising urban development as the 2023–2027 municipal term nears its midpoint. The General Urban Development Plan (PGOU) awaits updates to comply with Andalusia’s LISTA legislation, with plans for around 25,000 new homes still pending.
– The Urban Planning Department has initiated projects for nearly 5,000 free-market homes across the municipality, reviving stalled developments in Benajarafe, Torre del Mar, Caleta de Vélez, and Lagos. These include 3,507 homes, with at least 408 designated as social housing (VPO), supported by urbanisation projects and partial plans.
– Councillor Celestino Rivas (PP) highlighted the urgent need to address housing demand, noting that increasing supply could stabilise prices. The Council is also promoting affordable rentals and selling three municipal plots for up to 295 VPO homes via Emvipsa.
– In the Camino de Torrox area, sectors VM13 and VM18 are set for 500 homes, an industrial estate, and a private hospital with HM Hospitales. Iberdrola is advancing real estate projects in sector VM16, north of the A-7 Motorway, aiming to unlock developments delayed for nearly two decades.
– Rivas emphasised that these projects, some dating back to 2004–2006, will boost local revenue through licences and taxes. Water supply plans for these developments have been approved with positive technical and legal backing. The Council is also progressing towards a new PGOU approval, adapting to regional law while leveraging valid reports from a 2021 initial approval. These efforts reflect Vélez-Málaga’s commitment to meeting housing needs and fostering economic growth in the Axarquía region.
