Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

MALAGA PROVINCE

Three members of a criminal cell based in Torrox blamed for burglary of a home in Rincón de la Victoria and 14 other municipalities throughout the province arrested: {Translation}
– Agents of the National Police have arrested in Malaga three members of a criminal cell allegedly dedicated to committing burglaries in homes. The suspects, of South American origin and aged between 24 and 25 years, would have consummated 15 robberies in homes inhabited in the Malaga towns of Torremolinos (3), Rincon de la Victoria (1), Alhaurin de la Torre (1), Coin (1) and Malaga (7), and in the Granada municipality of Otura (1). The investigated, now in prison by order of the competent judicial authority, alternated techniques of climbing and others of forcing doors and windows to access the properties. The loot in some of the blows amounted to about 50,000 euros in jewellery.
– Operation ‘Haya-Monaco’, carried out by agents attached to the Robbery Group of the Provincial Police Station of Malaga, began last autumn after receiving a number of reports of burglaries in homes that had common patterns. The first criminal offenses attributed to this cell took place in Malaga capital, specifically in residential areas of Carlos Haya, Churriana, Limonar and Puerto de la Torre, and neighbouring Torremolinos.
– From the first investigations, the agents reached a series of conclusions as to the preferences of the assailants who, although they would perpetrate the first robberies in apartments, would later opt for villas with perimeter closures.
– Distribution of Functions. The cell acted with a team of three men, so that, while one of them was in charge of driving and surveillance, the other two would be the material authors of the robberies, perpetrating them with tools such as screwdrivers, goat legs and hydraulic jacks.
– Continuing with the investigations, the investigators knew how at the beginning the assailants had the logistical support of several compatriots living in Benalmádena, although later they had set their center of operations in a tourist apartment in the town of Torrox – from where they moved to perpetrate the robberies.
– In the framework of the present operation, there are no reports of confrontations with the residents of the properties. In fact, the intruders avoided any type of confrontation with the inhabitants of the houses that had been robbed, acting during daylight hours while they were away from home.
– Recovery of stolen jewellery. Finally, after the practice of a house search with the collaboration of the Unit of Prevention and Reaction -UPR- in the tourist apartment in the Axarquia, the agents seized numerous jewels, money, tools and clothes used in the criminal acts. Many of the recovered effects have already been delivered to their rightful owners.
– Once the suspects were arrested, they were brought before the court, which ordered the provisional imprisonment of all of them. The investigation is still open, and investigators believe that the gang could be related to other criminal offenses in other provinces, given its itinerant nature. Ecologists denounce “the abandonment” of the delta wetland of the Vélez River and propose measures to regenerate it: {Translation, summary}
– The Gabinete de Estudios de la Naturaleza de la Axarquía (GENA)-Ecologists in Action has denounced the “abandonment” of the Vélez River delta wetland, a biodiverse site listed by the Andalusian Regional Government (code IHA617009), hosting around 300 bird species, including significant Audouin’s gull populations, particularly during migration. GENA proposes six measures to address its degradation.
– A major issue is the dog beach at Los Toscanos, authorised by the Coastal Authority and Andalusian government, which disrupts birdlife. Unleashed dogs scare and sometimes hunt waders, prompting GENA to urge its relocation. Vehicle access on the left bank, via a track for the dog beach and parking, threatens biodiversity. Ineffective restrictions like chains and stone blocks lead GENA to propose a permanent barrier. The right bank, under Vélez-Málaga Town Council, suffers from littering, uncontrolled human activity, and use as a dumping site, requiring access regulation and cleanup.
– GENA also addresses disrupted sediment flow from upstream dams, worsened by storms in 2019 and 2022, which alters the delta’s ecological balance, and agricultural plastics causing microplastic pollution. They call for restoring sediment flow and removing plastics. Finally, GENA advocates for a municipal nature reserve to protect the wetland’s ecological value. These measures aim to counter neglect by authorities, preserve biodiversity. Man who plowed into a crowd of Liverpool soccer fans acted alone, police say:
– A 53-year-old British man plowed a minivan into a crowd of Liverpool soccer fans who were celebrating the city’s Premier League championship Monday, injuring more than 45 people as shouts of joy turned into shrieks of terror.
– The driver arrested was believed to be the only one involved and the crash was not being investigated as an act of terrorism, police said. Police identified the suspect as white, in a possible decision to prevent misinformation from flooding social media.
– Ambulances took 27 people to the hospital, including two with serious injuries, and another 20 people were treated at the scene for minor injuries, said Dave Kitchin of North West Ambulance Service. At least four children were injured. Four of the victims, including a child, were trapped under the van and firefighters had to lift the vehicle to free them. A paramedic on a bicycle was also struck but was not injured.

1,000-Foot Lava Jets Erupt From Hawaii’s Kilauea Volcano:
– Kilauea, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, is at it again. The infamous crater has been spurting fountains of lava on and off since the end of last year, and on May 25itshot a fiery jet of molten rock over 300 meters (1,000 feet) into the sky.
– The United States Geological Survey (USGS) livestreamed a video of the uncontrolled outburst – the volcano’s 23rd tantrum since December 2024, and the biggest of the bunch. All in all, Kilauea’s latest blowup lasted for just over six hours. Beginning at 4:15 pm Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time, thin jets of lava began erupting from the north vent, turning from sporadic bursts to sustained fountains of lava. Within half an hour, the situation at the north vent had escalated quickly, and a lava fountain reached its pinnacle of 300 meters.
– Soon after, in a south vent, other fountains of lava reached 250 meters in height. “Large lava flows erupted from both vents and covered about half of Halema’uma’u crater floor,” reads a USGS update. By 10:25 pm that night, both vents had calmed down. Full article: https://www.sciencealert.com/watch-1000-foot-lava-jets-erupt-from-hawaiis-kilauea-volcano & Video Link

Gen Z doesn’t have a clue- is signing up for ‘Adulting 101’ classes — because they can’t handle even basic life skills:
– They can code TikToks in their sleep — but can’t cook rice without a YouTube tutorial.
– Gen Z is flocking to “Adulting 101” crash courses, desperate to learn what previous generations might call common sense: how to do laundry, budgeting for rent or navigating a grocery store without Googling “what is a turnip?”
– “I don’t know how to change a tire. I don’t have a car at all. I don’t know how to sew. I don’t know how to do a lot of things, other than cooking,” admitted Aldhen Garcia, a freshman at Canada’s Toronto Metropolitan University, on CBC’s “The Current.” “I think it’s so important that children are taught financial literacy. A lot of stuff involves money,” he added.
– He’s not alone. Canadian colleges like the University of Waterloo are stepping in to teach the basics with online toolkits like “Adulting 101,” which covers everything from healthy relationships to how not to set your kitchen on fire.
– According to Jean Twenge, a psychology professor at San Diego State University and author of “Generations,” today’s twentysomethings are hitting adulthood with empty toolboxes. “Kids are growing up less independent. They’re less likely to learn how to do adult things as high school students. Then they get to university and they still don’t know,” Twenge said on “The Current.”
– “Until the 1960s, NYC high schoolers learned to cook, clean and sew as part of their standard curriculum. In 2025, they’d be lucky if they knew how to do their laundry,” New York City 10th grader Zack Leitner wrote in The Post last month. He says the long-lost home economics class — ditched during the Women’s Liberation movement — left behind crucial life lessons for all genders. Today’s students, he argues, are launched into adulthood with no idea how to fold a fitted sheet or roast a chicken. “What today’s youth need are ‘Adulting 101’ classes,” he insisted. “A lack of these skills makes youth feel adrift once they enter the ‘real world.’ Full article: https://nypost.com/2025/05/26/lifestyle/gen-z-flocks-to-adulting-101-for-basic-life-skills-help/
