***The Latest Gov’t Scandal – 3 Sides of the Coin***
Conservative side-
Feijóo calls for a protest on June 8th against Sánchez’s “corruption” and challenges Sánchez’s partners to present a motion of censure: {Translation, summary}
– PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo has announced a demonstration in Madrid on 8 June to protest against what he calls the “corruption” and “decay” surrounding Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. Feijóo accused Sánchez, his government, and close associates of widespread corruption, alleging offers of impunity to criminals, extortion of public servants, persecution of judges and journalists, and mafia-like practices.
– He challenged Sánchez’s parliamentary partners to initiate a motion of no confidence, warning that failure to act would make them complicit in the government’s decline. Feijóo described Sánchez’s term as being in its “terminal phase” and insisted that corruption will only end when Sánchez leaves office. The PP leader urged citizens to reject a government that attacks democratic institutions and called for a united front to restore integrity. He promised to lead opposition efforts both in the streets and parliament, aiming to bring about change through votes and public demonstrations. Source, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/nacional/noticia-feijoo-anuncia-protesta-dia-contra-corrupcion-sanchez-reta-socios-mocion-censura-20250529124036.html
Socialist Side-
Moncloa denies government corruption and rules out that its partners will support a motion of censure of the PP: {Translation, summary}
– The Spanish Government has rejected corruption allegations made by the People’s Party (PP) following leaked audio recordings involving socialist PSOE member Leire Díez, who sought compromising information against senior officials. The Government denies any conspiracy or corruption and says its parliamentary partners will not support a motion of no confidence proposed by PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo.
– The PP has called a demonstration for 8 June to protest alleged corruption linked to Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and his close circle.
– Government sources condemn Díez’s conduct but deny she works for the party or Government, stating she was investigating potential campaigns against the Government rather than fabricating evidence. Officials express concern over the spread of unfounded corruption claims, which they say are politically motivated by the PP.
– Prime Minister Sánchez {pic} limited a scheduled Thursday press conference to sidestep questions about the audio scandal and messages with a former minister, aiming to limit media attention on these unproven allegations.

Communist side-
Yolanda Díaz raises the tone before the audios of Leire Díez against the UCO and demands the PSOE “maximum forcefulness”: {Translation, summary}
– Spain’s Second Deputy Prime Minister, Yolanda Díaz (SUMAR, communist), has condemned the leaked audio recordings of PSOE member Leire Díez targeting a Civil Guard UCO chief and an anti-corruption prosecutor, calling them “extremely serious” and demanding accountability.
– Speaking at the ‘CREO 2025’ Forum, Díaz stressed that if the allegations are true, they are incompatible with a robust democracy and must be thoroughly investigated. She urged firmness and zero tolerance towards corruption, advocating for democratic regeneration. Díaz highlighted Sumar’s proposed reforms, including creating a corruption prevention council, restricting pardons, regulating lobbying, and limiting parliamentary immunity, aligning with GRECO recommendations. She also defended Spain’s institutions, warning that attacks on bodies like the UCO only fuel far-right narratives. While maintaining presumption of innocence, Díaz insisted the government must rise to the challenge and enact rigorous legislation to prevent such incidents. She criticised the current political climate for noise without action and called for decisive measures in Congress to combat corruption. Health Ministry Plans New Smoking/Vaping Laws Following EU Guidelines: {Translation, summary}
– Spain’s forthcoming anti-tobacco law will ban smoking in new public spaces, including terraces, work vehicles, university campuses, outdoor parties, bus shelters, sports facilities, and public swimming pools. The law will cover traditional tobacco, vaping, and heated tobacco products, aiming to reduce tobacco-related cancers, which account for 30% of cases. The legislation, based on the EU’s 2024 guidelines, also targets areas frequented by children, such as playgrounds and parks.
– It awaits final approval from Brussels before parliamentary debate. The law will regulate e-cigarettes and heated tobacco like conventional tobacco, introduce plain packaging to reduce appeal, and ban flavourings in vaping products. Additionally, the government plans to fund smoking cessation treatments through the National Health System, and raise taxes on tobacco products {Resulting in a thriving black market in cigarettes as evidenced by massive confiscations by police reported every week in the local press. -Ed.}, though price hikes require negotiation with the Ministry of Finance. Health Minister Mónica García hopes the law will mark a turning point in Spain’s fight against tobacco use, placing the country at the forefront of tobacco control. MALAGA CITY
Another home invasion- Five hooded men with knives assault a house in Cerrado de Calderon, three women are tied up and gagged: {Translation}
– The State Security Forces and Corps are investigating a violent assault on a house in the Cerrado de Calderón “gated” neighbourhood in Málaga city this Tuesday. At least five hooded men armed with large knives allegedly gagged and tied up the homeowner, her 18-year-old daughter, and the housekeeper in order to rob them.
– The incident occurred early in the morning when the assailants, with their faces covered and carrying large knives, reportedly gained access to the property through the garage and immobilised the victims in different rooms.
– According to sources close to the case who spoke to this newspaper, they tied them up with cable ties and gagged them for approximately two hours, during which time they searched the house to seize the loot: cash, watches, and jewellery, although the value of the stolen items has not been disclosed.
– Afterwards, the suspects are believed to have fled. For this reason, the National Police have already launched an investigation to try to resolve the alleged robbery with violence, according to information from the Málaga Provincial Police Headquarters.
– It is worth recalling that last year, around this time, four individuals also intimidated a couple and their underage grandson, who was with them at the time, after climbing the outer wall surrounding the chalet. Apparently, they showed them a screwdriver to intimidate them and ordered them not to leave the living room in the house.
– Not even two days before this latest assault, a businessman from Rincón de la Victoria was also a victim of burglars in his home in the Cotomar estate. Again, four hooded men broke into the house minutes after midnight and immobilised him, his wife, and his 25-year-old son. NERJA
Local police arrest individual who sowed the panic with a knife after a confrontation with some waiters for refusing to pay the account: {Translation}
– “He left in anger, apparently because he did not want to pay the bill, returned shortly after with a knife and began to threaten everyone who was in the square, entire families, with small children”.
– So described Thursday one of the waiters of the cafeteria Kronox, in the center of Nerja, in the emblematic Plaza Cavana, what happened last night at the gates of this catering establishment in the easternmost coastal town in the province.
– The man, middle-aged and with Spanish ID, allegedly threatened to assault with a knife the staff of the business and others nearby, as well as the many customers who at that time had been enjoying the evening in the warm night nerjeña.
– “He went crazy, threatening everyone, all the tables have left frightened, I thought it was a bomb, I do not know how he has not harmed anyone,” said another witness in a message that is circulating on social networks. The individual was restrained by a group of people who were in the place, until the Local Police arrived, who proceeded to his arrest.
– No injuries or personal damages were reported in the incident. The local agents, after instructing the corresponding police proceedings, have transferred the detainee to the barracks of the Civil Guard, which will be responsible for its provision to the judicial authority in Torrox. He is being investigated for the alleged crimes of public disorder and threats. The Animal Party denounces the Nerja Town Hall for a stone dragging contest with mules (come on, these are work animals having a bit of fun with their handlers, not delicate pets to be coddled!): {Translation, summary}
– Carmen Sánchez, provincial coordinator of PACMA in Málaga, filed a complaint with the Civil Guard over the 5th Stone Dragging Contest with Mules in Nerja, citing animal welfare concerns and the Town Hall’s failure to comply with transparency rulings. PACMA alleges the event forces animals to drag excessive weights, causing suffering and risks. Despite this, Nerja Town Hall and event organisers insist the contest had proper authorisation and veterinary supervision, reporting no welfare breaches. The collaborating equestrian club defended the tradition, stating animals are not forced and weights are adjusted. PACMA demands accountability and calls for the cessation of such events. VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA
Vox joins community groups to demand an urgent solution to the dumping of untreated wastewater in the rivers Cajiz and Macharaviaya: {Translation}
– The vast area of the Vélez-Málaga municipality, covering 158 square kilometres, and the wide dispersion of its population mean that some settlements still lack comprehensive sewage systems. The spokesperson for the Vox municipal group in opposition, Javier Herreros, denounced on Thursday the “serious structural deficiencies” in wastewater sanitation, citing as clear examples the problems in areas such as Cajiz-Las Puertas and Los Íberos, where there is no adequate water treatment system.
– “The lack of proper water treatment causes uncontrolled discharges directly into natural watercourses,” Herreros warned in a statement. “The Cajiz stream and the Los Íberos stream (Macharaviaya river) directly suffer these discharges, causing serious environmental damage,” he added.
– The Vox councillor in Vélez-Málaga has called for a “definitive and urgent solution” to eliminate sources of faecal contamination, bad odours, the proliferation of insects and rodents, and the severe deterioration of water quality and the natural environment. Connecting these scattered settlements to an integrated sewage system is “a longstanding demand” of the residents.
– Furthermore, Herreros recalled that Andalusian environmental legislation “requires the existence of adequate treatment infrastructure in all population centres, regardless of their size.” “Residents have lodged complaints with Vélez-Málaga Town Hall on multiple occasions, and as these are rural areas with smaller populations and less political weight, public investment does not reach them,” Herreros denounced, making it clear that the residents only want their right to live in a “clean and healthy” environment.
– Meanwhile, sources from the bipartite governing team, formed by the PP and GIPMTM, have deferred the response to the planned council meeting this Friday, where they will address the residents’ complaints and the proposal put forward by Vox. They investigate a man “with Diogenes Syndrome” in relation to the fire of the catwalk between Torre de Benagalbón and Chilches: {Translation, summary}
– National Police officers have identified and taken a statement from a middle-aged man for his alleged involvement in the fire that partially destroyed the pedestrian bridge over the Santillán stream in Los Rubios on Tuesday. This section of the Senda Litoral connects the municipalities of Rincón de la Victoria and Vélez-Málaga through the Torre de Benagalbón and Chilches areas.
– The investigation focuses on a man who “has Diogenes syndrome” and was “living under the bridge,” according to Vélez-Málaga’s Infrastructure Councillor. The National Police are trying to determine whether this person may have lit a small stove to cook, and accidentally caused the fire to spread due to the accumulation of rubbish, clothing, cardboard, and other belongings in the stream bed. The fire spread to a reed bed area and burned half of the pedestrian bridge on the Senda Litoral. Two electrical junction boxes were also destroyed.
– Jesús María Claros stated that they are already working to “repair the damage as soon as possible” and hope to receive assistance from the Málaga Provincial Council, which funded the Senda Litoral project. They have also contacted the company that manufactured the bridge to assess whether it can be repaired or needs replacing.
– The fire started on Tuesday at around 5:00 pm. The Civil Guard had to close the old N-340 road at kilometre 258 in both directions due to dense smoke and to facilitate emergency services. Firefighters from the Rincón de la Victoria and Vélez-Málaga Provincial Fire Consortium also intervened. By around 6:30 pm, the situation was under control and traffic was reopened. No injuries were reported.
– This section of the Senda Litoral, corresponding to the pedestrian bridge over the Santillán stream in Los Rubios, will remain closed to pedestrians until it is repaired or replaced. – A citizen has called the emergency telephone at 10:20 hours to ask for help for a precipitated vehicle in an area near the river Algarrobo. The Provincial Consortium Firefighters, members of the Health Emergency Center (CES) 061 and the Civil Guard Traffic responded.
– The emergency services of the Andalusian Health Service arrived on the scene with a helicopter, but have only been able to certify the death of the occupant of the wrecked vehicle. Source, Spanish: https://www.diariosur.es/sucesos/muere-hombre-sayalonga-vehiculo-desnivel-20250529161907-nt.html
GASTRONOMIA
Where to eat in Sedella: {Translation, summary}
– Sedella is in the foothills of the Sierra de Tejeda, at the foot of La Maroma. From this village you can start the most demanding route to the famous peaks of these mountains, the highest in the province of Malaga. At the same time, its elevated location allows panoramic views of the sea. It is even a good option to approach the hanging bridge of Saltillo. Today it is one of the villages most identified with the natural park of the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama. There is the visitor center where you can go for more information.
– El Chiringuito. You can order either a tapa or a portion of tripe (callos) with the cook’s grandmother’s recipe or a French-style venison civet. The menu varies daily, although there are some dishes that are frequently available. Among the most traditional are the maimones soups, a humble dish that here is enriched with Iberian ham from the Sierra de Huelva, truffle, egg yolk, and boletus mushrooms. The lettuce soup with smoked sardines or the Iberian pork shoulder with sobrasada sauce, which bear the chef-owner’s seal, rival with dishes as deeply rooted as the fennel stew.
Where: Avenida Villa del Castillo, 24, 29715 Sedella. Telephone: 601 995 559.
– La Plaza. Opposite Casa Torreón and next to the church of San Andrés. You can order a variety of tapas from Wednesday to Sunday in a rural atmosphere. Its terrace or bar are ideal places to savour tapas and dishes to share.
Where: Calle La Llana, 2 (in the Plaza of the Church of San Andrés). 29715 Sedella.
– La Cantina de Cissi. From tripe (callos) to pintarroja broth with clams. (Note: “Pintarroja” is a small species of shark typical of Málaga, often used in a spicy fish soup known as “caldillo de pintarroja.”). In this establishment, which usually only closes on Mondays, you can find a variety of tapas and small sandwiches. Crests (the fleshy combs on a chicken’s head, considered a delicacy in some Spanish dishes), marinated pork loin, choricillos (small chorizo sausages), pork fillets, or skewers (pork or chicken) are some of the regulars.
Where: Plaza de la Constitución, 8. 29715 Sedella.
– La Posada Puente Romano. On the path leading to the so-called Roman Bridge, is this establishment which, besides accommodation, can be a good place for tapas. Many classics await there, such as Russian salad, meatballs in sauce, patatas bravas, pork with tomato, chicken wings, or squid rings. They also have more substantial and elaborate dishes, such as beef cheeks in red wine, scrambled eggs with mushrooms and asparagus, chicken curry, pork churrasco, sirloin steak, or burgers.
Where: Calle Granada, 1, 29715 Sedella. Telephone: 611886202.
HEALTH
Unions reject the closure of 44 health centers in the afternoon during the summer in Malaga: {Translation, summary}
– The Andalusian Health Ministry’s Summer Plan 2025 includes closing 44 of Málaga’s 69 health centres in the afternoons, keeping 25 open, plus 45 urgent care centres (SUAP) across the province. Healthcare unions strongly oppose this, particularly in the Western Costa del Sol, Málaga city, and the eastern coast, where populations triple during summer. The Nursing Union SATSE calls the closures “unjustifiable,” warning they will overload emergency services and endanger public health and staff working conditions. CSIF highlights long delays in tests and hospital care, urging afternoon openings with adequate hiring.
– The Junta plans to hire 5,809 healthcare workers to cover summer holidays, but unions say this is insufficient, covering less than 25% of staff absences, with only 3% being doctors. The Malaga Medical Union calls the hiring effort “ridiculous,” predicting a catastrophic summer if wards and operating theatres close. At the regional level, unions criticise the plan for fewer hires than last year. During this time of uncertainty, God’s Word reminds us that the Gospel shines brightest in times of darkness. Our service lasts for about 1 hour and 30 mins. With Tea and Coffee afterwards.
– Prayer Meeting:
You are also welcome to join our prayer meetings on Wednesday mornings at 11.00am for 1 hour, where we meet for prayer and worship.
– Jesus said: “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me”. (John 14:6)

We enjoy a time of worship with contemporary songs and traditional hymns, and a message brought to us by our Pastor, one of our members or a visiting speaker.
The church meeting hall is situated at: Res: El Olivar 5, 8 Bajo 1, Calle Arbequin, Velez Malaga 29700.
Full directions and further information can be found on our Facebook page, or you can contact us by email on elpuentechristianfellowship@gmail.com or by phone on 665626342.
