Attorney General Is Charged- Prosecuted for following the orders of Sánchez? Admin attacks the Supreme Court, violating separation of powers: {Translation, summary}
– Supreme Court Judge Ángel Hurtado has decided to prosecute the Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, for an alleged offence of breaching confidentiality in the case involving Alberto González Amador, partner of Madrid’s regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. This marks the first time the head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office faces a criminal trial, with a potential sentence of up to four years in prison and unpredictable political fallout.
– The court ruling also implicates Madrid’s chief provincial prosecutor, Pilar Rodríguez, bringing both a step closer to the dock. The case centres on the alleged leak to the media of a confidential email sent on 2 February 2024 by González Amador’s defence to the Prosecutor’s Office. The email offered to admit tax offences to strike a deal with the authorities, information that, according to the investigation, should have been strictly protected by professional confidentiality. In the details of the Supreme Court order in which it is indicated that a specific instruction was given by the Presidency of the Government to the State Attorney General’s Office in the framework of the case against the boyfriend of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, Bolaños has “categorically” denied that extreme. “It has never happened and I regret very much that the Supreme Court makes such a serious assertion without evidentiary basis, because it has never happened,” he has asserted. Argentine President roars in Madrid, “Death to socialism!”: {Translation, summary}
– On 8 June 2025, 7,000 people attended the Madrid Economic Forum at Vistalegre Palace, hearing liberal thinkers like Juan Ramón Rallo and Daniel Lacalle discuss economics. The event, dubbed “fachochella” by critics, was closed by Argentine President Javier Milei, who delivered a fiery speech condemning socialism and praising his government’s efforts to reverse Argentina’s Peronist decline. Milei celebrated cutting deficits, dollarising the economy, and lifting millions from poverty, promising zero inflation by 2026. His attacks on the “criminal” state and taxes, alongside jabs at Pedro Sánchez, electrified the crowd, reinforcing his global libertarian stance despite left-wing media backlash. UKRAINE WAR

Russia launches biggest drone attack on Ukraine since start of war — with almost 500 individual strikes:
– Russia launched almost 500 drones at Ukraine overnight Sunday in its biggest bombardment since the start of the war — a day after US officials warned that such an attack from Moscow was likely.
– A total of 479 Shahed drones and 20 missiles were launched at Ukraine by Russian forces overnight, the Ukrainian air force said in a statement on Monday. All but 19 of the drones and one of the missiles were successfully downed by Ukrainian units, the air force’s statement continued. Damage was caused to a military airfield in the city of Dubno, just 40 miles from Ukraine’s western border with Poland, which was the main Russian target, air force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat told Reuters.
– The record attacks were in response to Kyiv’s devastating strikes on Russian bases earlier this month, Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Monday. Russia claims its forces have reached Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region for the first time:
– Russia claimed on Sunday that its forces had reached the border of Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region for the first time and were pushing into the central-eastern industrial and mining hub in what would be a symbolic and strategic setback for Kyiv. There was no immediate response from Ukraine to Russia’s statement.
– Dnipropetrovsk is not among the five Ukrainian regions over which Russia has asserted a formal territorial claim.
It is an important mining and industrial hub for Ukraine and deeper Russian advances into the region could have a serious knock-on effect for Kyiv’s struggling military and economy.
– In more than a decade of conflict with Kremlin-backed separatists and the Russian army, Ukraine has never had to fight on the territory of the Dnipropetrovsk region until now.
Ukrainian military personnel previously told AFP that Russia could advance relatively quickly in the largely flat region, given there are fewer natural obstacles or villages that could be used as defensive positions by Kyiv’s forces. The region – and in particular the city of Dnipro – have been under persistent Russian strikes for the last three years.
– Russia used Dnipro as a testing ground for its “experimental” Oreshnik missile (intermediate-range ballistic missile) in late 2024, claiming to have struck an aeronautics production facility.

Building regulations to mandate solar panels on new homes:
– Changes to Building Regulations will require solar panels are installed on almost all new homes in England from next year. The forthcoming Future Homes Standard, to be published in full this autumn, will introduce a “functional requirement” for renewable electricity generation in new dwellings. In most cases, this will mean the installation of rooftop solar photovoltaic panels.
– Announcing the change on 6 June, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero said the regulation would allow flexibility for developments where solar is impractical due to shading or other constraints. But the vast majority of homes built from 2025 would be expected to generate renewable power onsite. The change replaces proposals made in 2023 that would have allowed developers to omit solar panels altogether if 40 per cent of roof area coverage was not feasible.
– Under the revised approach, a minimum level of solar installation will be required in all but exceptional cases.
– Energy secretary Ed Miliband said the requirement would “unleash a rooftop revolution”, describing the mandate as “common sense”. Housing and planning minister Matthew Pennycook said the Future Homes Standard would ensure “modern and efficient” housing stock powered by low-carbon energy.
– Alongside solar generation, new homes will also need to incorporate low-carbon heating such as heat pumps and meet high standards of energy efficiency. Detailed technical guidance is being developed with industry stakeholders ahead of the final publication.
– Developers estimated solar installations could add £3,000 (€3,560) to £4,000 (€4,750) to construction costs per building. Miliband dismissed concerns that these would be passed onto buyers, claiming house prices would not rise.
– The policy dovetailed with Labour’s broader green agenda, including relaxed planning rules for heat pumps and a £13.2 billion (€15.68 billion) insulation scheme. The Climate Change Committee insisted near-total decarbonisation of housing was essential for the 2050 net-zero target, a goal Labour inherited from the Conservatives who appeared to have turned against it.
– Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said it was “impossible” without tanking living standards, while Reform UK wanted it scrapped entirely, citing higher energy bills.

National Guard troops deployed by Trump arrive in Los Angeles amid protests over immigration raids:
– National Guard troops began arriving in Los Angeles early Sunday, June 8 after being ordered there by US President Donald Trump, a rare deployment against the state governor’s wishes after sometimes violent protests against immigration enforcement raids. Trump took federal control of California’s state military to push soldiers into the country’s second-biggest city, an extraordinary move not seen for decades and deemed “purposefully inflammatory” by California Governor Gavin Newsom.
– Helmeted troops carrying automatic weapons and with camouflaged vehicles could be seen in the Compton neighbourhood of Los Angeles early Sunday, ahead of more protests, including a call by organizers for a “mass mobilization” at City Hall at 2:00 pm local time (2100 GMT). The development came after two days of confrontations during which federal agents fired flash-bang grenades and tear gas toward crowds angry at the arrests of dozens of migrants in a city with a large Latino population. – At least 56 people were arrested this weekend as protesters against federal immigration raids were ordered to leave downtown Los Angeles and law enforcement shot “less-lethal” rounds. Demonstrators spilled out onto the 101 Freeway, while others set fire to Waymo driverless cars. Demonstrations continue in L.A. and other U.S. cities today.
– Around 300 National Guard members are in L.A. after President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of 2,000 troops in a move California Gov. Gavin Newsom criticized as inflammatory. About 500 Marines are also ready to deploy. Full article: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/live-blog/la-unrest-live-updates-crowds-protesting-immigration-raids-rcna211757

How the US is turning into a mass techno-surveillance state: {El Pais US, summary}
– The significant expansion of surveillance technologies and data collection by U.S. government agencies, particularly under recent administrations, is alarming. Agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are increasingly using advanced digital tools and artificial intelligence to monitor individuals, especially immigrants, foreigners, and students.
– Social Media Monitoring: Agencies use tools like Babel X and SocialNet to scan and analyze publicly available information from hundreds of social media platforms, blogs, forums, and news sites. This allows them to gather personal data that can influence immigration and law enforcement decisions.
– Purchasing Data from Brokers: The government also acquires extensive personal information by purchasing it from large data brokers such as Thomson Reuters and LexisNexis. These companies compile vast databases containing addresses, phone numbers, relatives’ names, vehicle records, social media posts and profiles, on-line search and purchase history, and other sensitive details scraped from computers and mobile devices, which are then sold to federal agencies including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
– Biometric Data Collection: The Department of Homeland Security is developing a biometric database called HART, which aggregates facial recognition, DNA, iris scans, fingerprints, and voice prints from federal, state, local, and international sources to support enforcement actions.
– Location Tracking: The government collects precise geolocation data from mobile devices and uses license plate readers to monitor vehicle movements, enabling detailed tracking of individuals’ whereabouts.
– Data Integration Platforms: Private companies like Palantir provide analytics platforms that combine data from multiple government sources, such as tax and immigration records, to identify patterns and support investigations.
– Communication Interception and Spyware: Authorities employ interception of communications and spyware tools to monitor targeted individuals.
Other: Additionally, surveillance extends to the use of drones, facial recognition systems, spyware, and other digital monitoring technologies.
– These data collection methods create a comprehensive surveillance system that integrates diverse types of information, enhancing the government’s ability to monitor and enforce immigration and security policies. These technologies are used extensively and often without judicial oversight, raising questions about privacy and the scope of government surveillance.
– While these developments enhance the government’s
ability to track and manage security concerns, they also raise questions about privacy and the scope of data collection. The article points out that this trend is part of a broader global movement toward increased digital surveillance and the death of privacy as we know it. Once the system has been established to track immigrants and foreigners, it will be a small step to include everyone else. HEALTH

RFK Jr. removes all members of CDC panel advising U.S. on vaccines:
– Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Monday said he is “retiring” all 17 members of a crucial government panel of vaccine advisors, a shocking step that could help to sow doubts about immunizations in the U.S. “A clean sweep is needed to re-establish public confidence in vaccine science,” Kennedy said in an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal on Monday.
– Kennedy is removing all members of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, or ACIP, which advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The group reviews vaccine data and makes recommendations that determine who is eligible for shots and whether insurers should cover them, among other efforts. Kennedy claimed that the panel has been “plagued with persistent conflicts of interest and has become little more than a rubber stamp for any vaccine.” Full article: https://www.cnbc.com/2025/06/09/rfk-jr-cdc-panel-vaccines.html

Staff union claims that patients of hospital in Malaga town had to share rooms with deceased persons ‘for hours’:
– The CSIF trade union representing members of the Andalusian health service (SAS) staff has denounced a situation that resulted in the distress of some patients at the Hospital Valle del Guadalhorce de Cártama on the outskirts of Malaga. According to the union, at least twice last week patients had “to share rooms with a deceased person for hours”. CSIF attributed this to the lack of orderlies, as there are only two for the whole centre during night shifts. The situation has been described as “intolerable”, as it takes several hours to transfer the body of the deceased from the ward to the mortuary.
