World class players and some real American bluesmen. This is a top blues show anywhere in the world now that Jorma, Eric, and the other godfathers of blues rarely play anymore.
– Rick Estrin & the Nightcats are the current version of San Francisco’s world-famous legendary blues band Little Charlie & the Nightcats. Multi-instrumentalist “Little Charlie” Baty retired in 2008. Rick Estrin co-founded the band with Little Charlie, as singer and playing harmonica, in 1976, and look over leadership when Little Charlie retired. Thus the name change for the band.
– DK HARRELL is this generation’s BB King. Just watch the video. The guitarist and singer from Louisiana is a new star in the blues, winning in 2024 as Best Emerging Artist at the prestigious celebration of the Blues Music Awards!
– I sincerely congratulate the Almuñécar Blues Fest team on assembling a top class lineup for their premier concerts. Very well done! }

Sanchez steps back from socialist party leadership in response to the Cerdán PSOE corruption scandal: {Translation}
– The Secretary General of the PSOE and President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has left the party’s Organisation Secretariat in the hands of the party president, Cristina Narbona, the party manager, Ana María Fuentes, and members of the Executive, Montse Mínguez and Borja Cabezón. This group of socialist leaders, which is also joined by the Avanza Foundation, will lead the Organisation Secretariat on an interim basis until the next Federal Committee on 5th July, following the resignation of Santos Cerdán due to allegations of corruption by the Civil Guard’s UCO.
– This was announced by the PSOE this Monday, which also announced the expulsion of the former minister and Ábalos’s predecessor in the Organisation Secretariat, José Luis Ábalos, while the Federal Executive meeting presided over by Sánchez was being held at the party’s headquarters on Ferraz Street.
– Mínguez is the Secretary for Labour, Social Economy, and Self-Employment of the Federal Executive Committee (CEF) and a member of the Lower House of Parliament, and Cabezón is the Secretary for Democratic Action and Transparency of the Executive.
– Sánchez has left the current deputy secretary of Organisation, Juanfran Serrano—who was Cerdán’s right-hand man—out of this interim Organisation Secretariat. Sanchez dodges responsibility, responds to the Cerdán PSOE corruption scandal with a socialist word salad in a statement to the Federal Executive Commission: {Translation}
– “First of all, I would like to sincerely thank all the members of the Federal Executive Committee for their support, empathy, and solidarity shown today, which they have personally expressed to me during these days that, as all of you can imagine, have been difficult for the entire socialist family. I also wish to thank the determination—not only the solidarity and empathy—but the determination of the Federal Executive Committee and the organisation, and of course the logical demand to take action when we are talking about alleged cases of corruption, but also the determination and pride in all the work carried out by the progressive coalition government with the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party.” {No apology, no accountability, the old “one bad apple…” defence. The problem being, a mouldy apple will infect other nearby apples, and Cerdán was very close to Sanchez. Also, it appears Sanchez has been getting public speaking lessons from Kamala Harris. -Ed.} Source, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/nacional/noticia-cambios-psoe-directo-ultimas-noticias-comparecencia-sanchez-20250616095125.html

Still denying any responsibility, arrogant Sánchez gets aggressive when asked if he will resign- challenges to PP and Vox to file a motion of censure before the summer, offers illogical arguments attacking other parties: {Translation}
– The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has challenged the PP and Vox to dare to present a motion of no confidence against him if they are convinced that they have a majority in Congress, in the wake of the Koldo case, and has once again proclaimed that there will be no early elections and that they will be called in 2027, as scheduled, every four years.
– “If you allow me a piece of advice, I suggest that both Mr. Feijóo and Mr. Abascal present that motion of no confidence as soon as possible. Because after the summer, perhaps the resolutions of many of the cases pending against the PP will start to come in, and then we’ll see who the real criminals are,” he said during his appearance after the PSOE executive meeting.
– The head of the Executive has made it clear that, despite the impact of the alleged corruption attributed to the former PSOE Organisation Secretary Santos Cerdán, “it would be irresponsible to destroy everything that has been achieved” by the Government because of “media criticism” or “social pressure.” In the face of this crisis, he explained that his “duty as captain” is “to take the helm, weather this storm,” and take the necessary measures to restore Spaniards’ trust in the PSOE.
***ANOTHER CHALLENGE TO FEIJÓO: THAT HE ASK FOR AYUSO AND MAZÓN TO RESIGN***
– Furthermore, Sánchez exclaimed, in a clear reference to the opposition, that “what is democratic is not making your rival resign with a few truths and many lies driven by a coalition of shadowy lobbies,” but rather daring to use the motion of no confidence.
– At the same time, he has gone back on the offensive and urged the PP and Vox that, if they “want to have the slightest credibility” on anti-corruption issues, they should start by “demanding the resignations” of the regional presidents who, according to him, are involved in “cases of corruption, irregular financing, or negligence” in the management of disasters. With this remark, he was directly pointing to the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to demand the resignation of his regional barons Isabel Díaz Ayuso and Carlos Mazón for their management during the deaths in care homes during the pandemic or for those who died in the dana (cold drop) weather event.
***MAINTAINS ROADMAP AND COMMITMENTS MADE DURING THE INVESTITURE***
– Sánchez explained that the PSOE is a “clean” organisation and that this will not be overshadowed by the corruption of a few, so he proclaimed that “there are no doubts” and that the coalition government will “continue with the work of social progress.” “The PSOE maintains its roadmap and its commitments assumed during the investiture debate. What Spain deserves is to move forward. What it certainly does not deserve is to go backwards with a reactionary agenda, led by a coalition of the PP and Vox, which would irreparably affect the rights of millions of men and women,” he emphasised, adding that it is clear to him that Spain needs “stability.”
– During his appearance, Sánchez defended that his arrival at Moncloa in 2018 was a step forward to put an end to the “systemic corruption” that, in his opinion, the PP had sown in the institutions.
– And despite the “mistake” of trusting Cerdán, for which he has apologised, Sánchez praised that his administration has made progress on anti-corruption issues, such as toughening legislation and increasing transparency levels. “It has been achieved that what before was covered up, obstructed or tolerated as part of the norm, is now pursued and punished as an unforgivable act. With all this, we are very aware that it is clear that there is still work to be done,” he declared.
***”WE ARE NOT GOING TO COVER UP CORRUPTION, WE DON’T WANT TO BE LIKE THE PP AND VOX”***
– Then, he once again reprimanded the right by stressing that if the “socialist family” is clear about anything, it is that they “cannot, do not want, and will not be” like the PP and Vox. “We are not going to cover up corruption that arises in our ranks, no matter how painful it is. We are not going to pursue whistleblowers, nor are we going to create patriotic police, nor are we going to threaten journalists who do their job, nor are we going to destroy evidence with hammers, nor are we going to have a headquarters paid for with money in B,” he said, alluding to cases that affected the PP such as the Gürtel case (2009) or the so-called ‘Bárcenas papers’ (2013, a scandal involving the former treasurer of the PP).
– Finally, he assured that the PSOE will “face up” and act decisively, since although they are not “perfect,” it is in their nature to be “uncompromising with corruption.” And he added that the so-called ‘Koldo case’ is the only one that has affected the PSOE to date since he has led the party {That’s just a flat out lie! -Ed.}, promising that it will be the last, as they will do everything in their power to ensure that anyone who commits irregularities under the cover of a PSOE organisational position will pay. Source, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/nacional/noticia-sanchez-reta-pp-vox-presentar-mocion-censura-antes-verano-si-creen-tiene-mayoria-20250616164912.html

Andalucia response to the previous articles- Moreno urges Sanchez to call a general election rather than attempt “cosmetic changes” as the “corruption has spilled over”: {Translation}
– The President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno (PP), insisted this Monday that the President of the Government and Secretary General of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, instead of making “mere cosmetic or superficial changes” within his party, must call a general election “as soon as possible” because corruption has “run him over.”
– “Corruption has run over Pedro Sánchez and, as a result, he is making obviously hasty decisions,” stated Juanma Moreno in remarks to journalists in Málaga, where he expressed that the President of the Government “should have known something” when he decided to dismiss José Luis Ábalos as Minister of Public Works, and questioned why he did not at that time make the decision taken this Monday to expel him from the PSOE.
– “Why did he not open an internal investigation within the party itself and clarify all these events?” asked Juanma Moreno, who denounced that, on the contrary, they dedicated themselves to “attacking the Civil Guard, the UCO, and also the judges who were investigating.”
– For Moreno, “it is clear that Sánchez has been run over by the very corruption within the PSOE, and it is difficult to get out of this situation by making mere cosmetic or superficial changes.” And, faced with this situation of “denigration and democratic deterioration, the only possible option for renewal is to call an election and let the citizens decide at the polls what they want for the future.”
– At this point, he asked what else “has to happen in Spain for Mr. Sánchez to make the decision he has to make, which is to call an election or resign,” and recalled how in Portugal, António Costa resigned as Prime Minister solely “because there were suspicions of corruption, and afterwards there was nothing, and in fact, today he is the President of the Council of Europe.”
– He recalled that Sánchez lost the last general elections, “came to the Government through a motion against corruption, and now it is corruption that is running him over,” while “he has neither a social majority in the street nor a parliamentary majority,” and his Junts partners are taking advantage of this moment to “get the most out of” Mr. Sánchez. “Are we going to endure agony and plundering by Sánchez’s pro-independence partners in our country, taking advantage of the enormous weakness he has?” asked the Andalusian president, for whom “the Spanish people do not deserve this.”
– “Cosmetic changes, grand gestures, makeup, and overacting are of no use,” declared Juanma Moreno, who also expressed his indignation at the “trashy” comments about women that have come to light through the audio recordings between José Luis Ábalos and Koldo García, and asked where the supposedly “feminist and progressive” left-wing forces are to condemn those words.
– Regarding whether it would matter to him if the general elections coincided with the Andalusian elections (scheduled for June 2026), he indicated that it is “irrelevant” to him, although Andalusia always deserves its “own debate” as a historic community: “That is what I wish, but I cannot prevent Mr. Sánchez, if he survives until then, from wanting to make the two elections coincide.”
– He showed himself convinced that a coinciding election would not affect him “in the slightest” as a candidate for re-election as President of the Junta, but rather, it would probably “favour” him. For Moreno, there is a strong desire for “release against Mr. Sánchez, because there is a lot of pent-up anger among many citizens and great disappointment among progressive and socialist voters regarding this corruption.” Photo of Sanchez with Moreno: elmira.com. Source, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/andalucia/malaga-00356/noticia-moreno-sanchez-tiene-convocar-elecciones-lugar-cambios-cosmeticos-porque-corrupcion-atropellado-20250616132432.html

MALAGA PROVINCE

Shopping basket price in Malaga province experiences biggest rise in a year:
– The cost of living in Malaga has been mixed. On the one hand, it is true that the general price index, i.e. the increase in the cost of the main products as a whole, has moderated from levels above 3% (December 2024) to 2.7% (May 2025).
– On the other hand, grocery prices resumed increases this past May. The price of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 2.1% in Malaga, compared to April (1.3%). These basic goods have not been so expensive since August 2024. According to the INE, the increase recorded in May was mainly due to the rise in fruit prices. VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA

Vélez-Málaga activates a special cleaning plan ahead of summer in response to an increase in complaints from residents: {Translation, summary}
– Just one week after the deputy mayor of Vélez-Málaga and deputy mayor of Torre del Mar, Jesús Carlos Pérez Atencia (GIPMTM), presented a specific reinforcement plan for the main coastal area of the capital of Axarquía, the mayor of Vélez, Jesús Lupiáñez (PP), presented an identical initiative on Friday, but one that will cover the entire municipality, which is made up of a dozen towns.
– On Friday, the two leaders and government partners appeared to present the action plan, which has been adopted in response to the increase in complaints from residents and opposition groups (Andalucía por Sí, PSOE, Vox, and the independent councillor, Elías García) in recent months, at a time when the contract with the concessionaire, Althenia, part of the Malaga-based Sando group, has been extended and is awaiting a new tender.
– On Friday, the Vélez-Málaga bipartisan government presented its special cleaning plan for the summer months, “an ambitious initiative” that increases the usual cleaning staff by 53%, from the concessionaire’s current 89 workers to a total of 136 workers over the coming months, as highlighted by the mayor in his appearance. “Cleaning does not go on vacation. Quite the contrary: it is reinforced, expanded, and brought closer to every neighbourhood, every street.” Source, Spanish: https://www.diariosur.es/axarquia/velezmalaga-activa-plan-especial-limpieza-cara-verano-20250613134333-nt_amp.html

EUROPE

Huge turnout at a second Dutch protest seeking government action against Israel:
– Tens of thousands of demonstrators in the Netherlands donned red clothing and marched Sunday to protest the Dutch government’s policy toward Israel, exceeding the turnout for a similar event in May. Protesters walked a 3-mile (5-kilometer) loop around the centre of The Hague to symbolically create the red line they say the government has failed to draw to halt Israel’s campaign in Gaza.
– The human rights groups and aid agencies — including Amnesty International, Save the Children and Doctors Without Borders — that organized the march estimated the peaceful crowd at more than 150,000 people. Local media put the numbers closer to 100,000.
– In neighboring Belgium, around 75,000 people, many of them also clad in red, hit the streets in the capital Brussels, police said. Several rallies have been held to draw attention to Israel’s actions in Gaza, but Sunday’s was the biggest rally so far. IRELAND

Works begin in Ireland to exhume remains of hundreds of babies found at unwed mothers’ home:
– Officials in Ireland began work Monday to excavate the site of a former church-run home for unmarried women and their babies to identify the remains of some 800 infants and young children who died there. The long-awaited excavation at the former Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home in Tuam, County Galway in western Ireland {pic}, is part of a reckoning in an overwhelmingly Roman Catholic country with a history of abuses in church-run institutions. The works are expected to take two years to complete.
– The home, which was run by an order of Catholic nuns and closed in 1961, was one of many such institutions that housed tens of thousands of orphans and unmarried pregnant women who were forced to give up their children throughout much of the 20th century. In 2014, historian Catherine Corless tracked down death certificates for nearly 800 children who died at the home in Tuam between the 1920s and 1961 — but could only find a burial record for one child. Investigators later found a mass grave containing the remains of babies and young children in an underground sewage structure on the grounds of the home.

USA

Epidemiologist Who Was Fired From Harvard After Refusing COVID Shot Named To CDC Vaccine Panel:
– World-renowned infectious-disease epidemiologist Martin Kulldorff — who was fired from Harvard Medical School last year after refusing the COVID vaccine — just got a new gig. Kulldorff, who had refused the COVID vaccine because of his infection-acquired immunity, lost his appointment at a Harvard-affiliated hospital in the early days of the COVID era, and in March of 2024 was officially terminated as a med school faculty member. Kulldorff argued that tactics such as social distancing, masking children, vaccines after infections, and other extreme measures were not the best course of action to fight the virus.
– He co-authored the Great Barrington Declaration, which called for sensible tactics that would allow the globe to reach “herd immunity” and has been signed by nearly 1 million scientists worldwide.
– Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., in announcing the new members of the panel last week on X, wrote that his selections signify a “major step towards restoring public trust in vaccines.”
– “Kulldorff posted on X that ‘thinking that everyone must be vaccinated is as scientifically flawed as thinking that nobody should.’” “COVID vaccines are important for older high-risk people and their care-takers,” he wrote. “Those with prior natural infection do not need it. Nor children.”
– “The beauty of our immune system is that those who recover from an infection are protected if and when they are re-exposed. This has been known since the Athenian Plague of 430 BC—but it is no longer known at Harvard,” he wrote.
– “Three prominent Harvard faculty coauthored the now infamous ‘consensus’ memorandum in The Lancet, questioning the existence of Covid-acquired immunity. By continuing to mandate the vaccine for students with a prior Covid infection, Harvard is de facto denying 2,500 years of science,” concluded Kulldorff. NATURE

When Does Summer Officially Begin?: {Translation, summary}
– The summer solstice occurs when the Sun reaches its maximum declination (minimum at the winter solstice from the northern hemisphere), casting its light over the highest geographical latitude on Earth.
– This year, 2025, this event will take place on Saturday, 21st June, at 2 hours and 42 minutes UTC, according to calculations by the National Astronomical Observatory. This season will last approximately 93 days and 16 hours, and will end on 22nd September with the beginning of autumn.
The start of summer in the northern hemisphere coincides with the start of winter in the southern hemisphere.
– The beginning of the seasons is determined, by convention, by those moments when the Earth is in certain positions in its orbit around the Sun. In the case of summer, this position occurs at the point on the ecliptic where the Sun reaches its most northerly position. On the day this happens, the Sun reaches its maximum northern declination (+23º 27′) and for several days its maximum height at midday does not change; this circumstance is also called the summer solstice. At this moment, winter begins in the southern hemisphere.
– The day of the summer solstice is the longest day of the year. A coincidental event unrelated to the seasons also occurs around this time: the day of aphelion, that is, the day when the Sun and Earth are furthest apart during the year. This year it will be on 3rd July. Source, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/ciencia/astronomia/noticia-cuando-empieza-verano-2025-20250616111906.html
