Electrical network places the start of the blackout in the “malfunction” of a photovoltaic plant in Badajoz: {Translation, summary}
– Red Eléctrica (REE) has pinpointed the cause of the historic 28 April blackout to a malfunction at a photovoltaic plant in Badajoz, which triggered abnormal frequency oscillations. The incident began at noon with a forced frequency fluctuation causing significant voltage drops and system instability. Attempts to stabilise the grid included reducing power exchanges with Portugal and disconnecting reactive components. The oscillations were traced to internal control failures at the solar plant. Subsequently, around 700 MW of small generation units disconnected, worsening the situation. Voltage control resources were insufficient due to non-compliance by generators, contributing to the blackout. REE denies responsibility and stresses that available reserves were adequate, though some plants were unavailable.
– The company calls for urgent implementation of a long-delayed voltage control service to allow renewables to help stabilise the grid by 2026. REE’s report complements the Government’s and highlights challenges in data transparency from other operators. Responsibility determination lies with regulatory and judicial authorities.

Belarra (Podemos) says the legislature is “dead” and asks Sánchez to step down: “He’s part of the problem.”: {Translation}
– On Wednesday, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez faced a tough session in Congress, where opposition parties questioned him about alleged corruption cases involving the PSOE and his refusal to call a general election. It was Sánchez’s first appearance in the chamber since the resignation of the Socialists’ secretary of organization, Santos Cerdán, following the UCO report accusing him of managing kickbacks.
– After the control session, Podemos leader Ione Belarra {pic, center} said that the legislature is “finished” and called on Sánchez to step down: “He cannot be part of the solution because he is part of the problem.” Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/noticia/5723145/0/directo-santos-cerdan-pedro-sanchez-explicaciones-corrupcion-psoe-ultima-hora/

Shouts of “resign, resign” directed at Sánchez during the first session of questioning following the Cerdán case: {Translation}
– President Pedro Sánchez was met with cries of “resign, resign” in the plenary session of Congress during his first question time following the resignation of his former number three, Santos Cerdán, after he was implicated in the alleged kickback scheme involving Koldo García and José Luis Ábalos.
– In his response to the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, when he was recounting the cases of alleged corruption affecting regional governments led by the PP, members of the main opposition party began shouting “resign, resign.”
– While the president of Congress called for calm, the socialist MPs stood up to applaud their leader at the end of his speech. Source, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/nacional/noticia-gritos-dimision-dimision-sanchez-primera-sesion-control-caso-cerdan-20250618092506.html

ANDALUCÍA

Think Andalucia is uninvolved in Iran conflict? Or the Ukraine War? Think again: {Translation}
– The Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles {pic}, confirmed on Wednesday the arrival of bombers and tanker aircraft at the Morón de la Frontera (Seville) and Rota (Cádiz) bases as part of the Trump Administration’s military reinforcement in response to the conflict between Israel and Iran, but assured that the United States (US) is using the bases in accordance with bilateral agreements and treaties.
– “At this moment, it is true that the United States is using the bases, but always within the limits of the agreement we have between the two countries and in accordance with the treaties,” Robles said in statements to the media in the corridor of Congress, although she did not go into further detail.
– Data gathered by the BBC shows that at least 30 bombers and tanker aircraft for refuelling fighter jets have stopped over at US air bases in Spain, Scotland, and England, while Trump has warned Iran that the patience of the United States “is running out,” amid ongoing clashes between Tehran and the Israeli state.
– The minister wished to convey the Government’s “concern” over the deteriorating situation and called for the situation to be “redirected” so that both parties can “soon” reach a peace agreement.
– {Note: Iran has already declared that any foreign military bases assisting Israel to attack Iran will be considered fair game for retaliatory attacks. In addition, supplies for the Ukraine war effort are regularly sent from Rota Airbase. Russia has said Ukrainian supply lines are fair targets. Russian officials, including Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, have stated that Western weapons supplied to Ukraine, which are used to target Russian military infrastructure and supply lines, are considered legitimate targets by Russia.So now Andalucia is on both Iran’s and Russia’s sh*tlists. Ain’t that grand? -Ed.}

Exceptional hunting measures declared for wild rabbits due to agricultural damage: {Translation}
– The Directorate-General for Forest Policy and Biodiversity, through the Regional Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, published on Tuesday, June 17, in the Official Gazette of the Regional Government of Andalusia (BOJA) the resolution adopting exceptional hunting measures aimed at controlling wild rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) populations in various municipalities in the provinces of Granada, Jaén, Málaga, and Seville. The decision responds to significant damage to agricultural crops caused by abnormally high concentrations of this species in certain areas.
– The measure will only affect hunting grounds that have a Technical Hunting Plan in place that specifically addresses rabbit damage control and are located within the municipalities listed in the resolution, including towns such as Loja, Íllora, Montefrío, Úbeda, Jaén, Antequera, Campillos, Seville, Morón de la Frontera, and Écija, among many others.
– In the province of Málaga, in addition to those already mentioned, the municipalities of Alameda, Archidona, Cuevas Bajas, Cuevas de San Marcos, Fuente de Piedra, Humilladero, Mollina, Sierra de Yeguas, Teba, Villanueva de Algaidas, Villanueva de la Concepción, and Villanueva de Tapia are also included. NERJA

Nerja, the only town on the coast of the Axarquia with half of their showers running in the beaches: {Translation, summary}
– The Nerja coastline is the only one in the Axarquía region to offer shower facilities on the beaches this summer. The ruling PP team at the Town Hall of the easternmost coastal town in the province thus breaks away from the consensus reached a month ago by the other four local councils in the eastern district—Rincón de la Victoria, Vélez-Málaga, Torrox, and Algarrobo—which have only activated foot-washing stations along their shores as a measure of “awareness” following the harsh years of drought.
– Nerja’s Beaches Councillor, Mari Carmen López (PP), explained to SUR that, “after assessing the current water situation,” the Beaches Department “has decided to activate, from this past Sunday 15 June, all showers adapted for people with disabilities, all foot-washing stations, and to put into service 50% of the remaining showers.” “With this measure, we guarantee the service and promote responsible water use,” added the Nerja councillor. VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA

The Vélez-Málaga Department of Transportation presents the Summer Night bus service & San Juan night bus service: {Translation, summary}
– The nighttime urban service will be available to residents and visitors in July and August, from 10:30pm to 2:30am, with direct and permanent connections between Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar. The nighttime service will be active from Tuesday, July 1, and will continue until August 31.
– On the occasion of the celebration of the Night of San Juan, the night bus service will be extended until 2:30am as well. GRANADA

Three photovoltaic projects opposite the Alhambra have residents and environmentalists up in arms: “It’s our landscape.”: {Translation, summary}
– A major photovoltaic project with over 24,000 solar panels is planned for El Fargue, a Granada neighbourhood just two kilometres from the Alhambra, sparking strong opposition from environmentalists and residents.
– Critics argue the project will irreversibly alter the iconic view from the Alhambra, destroy olive groves and holm oaks, and threaten protected habitats for birds and mammals. Technical reports warn of irreversible soil loss, increased erosion, and non-compliance with local environmental regulations. Heritage experts highlight the risk to centuries-old olive groves and the disruption of the historical landscape, including World Heritage sites.
– Residents and environmentalists also criticise the lack of transparency from the City Council and allege the environmental impact study is a copy of a previously halted project. MIDDLE EAST

Report says Khamenei transfered powers to Iranian military amid escalating Israel-Iran conflict:
– Amid escalating tensions with Israel and renewed threats from the White House, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has handed over key powers to the Supreme Council of the Iranian military, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
– The development comes following reports suggesting that Khamenei has been relocated to an underground bunker in the northeast Tehran, along with his close family members, including son Mojtaba, according to Iran Insight. {In terms of reputation, Khamenei is considered a moderate compared to the more aggressive and militant IRGC. -Ed.}
– Israel and Iran exchanged missiles earlier today with both sides refusing to back down even as the fighting entered its sixth day on Wednesday.
