Jennifer Lopez concert- change of venue from Malaga to Fuengirola:
– Jennifer Lopez’s concert in Malaga on 11 July has undergone a sudden change of venue- instead of performing at Malaga’s Estadio de Atletismo, the Latina singer will return to Fuengirola’s Marenostrum stage, where her last concert in the province of Malaga was (2019).
– The announcement came on Monday morning. The tour promoter cited “logistical reasons” behind the decision, which comes just over two weeks before the event. The already purchased tickets will still be valid. {They are moving to a smaller venue, very unusual, suggesting the very expensive tickets are not selling well, €100 to €420, or €1700 for a J.Lo meet & greet. -Ed.}

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

The Ministry of Health is announcing that the proposed Anti-Smoking Law will ban vaping in the same areas as smoking: {Translation, summary}
– Health Minister Mónica García announced that Spain’s new Anti-Tobacco Law will ban vaping in the same places as smoking, aligning regulations for e-cigarettes and heated tobacco with traditional tobacco. The law aims to close a loophole exploited by the tobacco industry to attract new users. The ban will cover terraces, bus shelters, outdoor party venues, work vehicles, educational institutions (including outdoor areas), sports facilities, and public pools. – Additionally, a forthcoming Royal Decree will regulate e-cigarette flavours and nicotine content in nicotine pouches, some of which exceed safe levels for cessation aids. The draft law is expected to enter public consultation soon, with parliamentary procedures anticipated this year.
– If you wish to voice your opinion, you should contact the Ministry of Health and let tham know during the public consultation period in the next few weeks. The ‘Financial Times’ accuses Pedro Sánchez of “torpedoing the unity of NATO on the eve of a crucial summit”: {Translation, summary}
– The Financial Times has criticised Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez for “torpedoing NATO unity” ahead of a key summit by refusing to commit to the alliance’s 5% GDP defence spending target. Sánchez announced an agreement allowing Spain to forgo this target, committing instead to 2.1% of GDP, which the Financial Times says makes Spain the leading European country lagging in NATO defence spending. Sánchez defended the move, stating it “safeguards Spain’s sovereignty while ensuring the success of the NATO summit.”
– Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz condemned the exception, calling it “unjustified” and “damaging to the alliance’s unity,” insisting “all states should share the burden of the alliance” and expressing support for reaching 5% “as soon as possible.” Belgium also plans to demand equal treatment, raising tensions ahead of the summit in The Hague.
– NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte clarified that no ally receives special treatment and emphasised a goal of 5% defence spending by 2035, with “a specific roadmap for each country.” He said, “We form an alliance where we fight together and, if necessary, also suffer and die together for our collective defence… Spain has also agreed to the [capability] targets.”
– Officials warned Sánchez’s stance “threatened to derail the summit” as other nations might seek similar exemptions. Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/internacional/financial-times-acusa-pedro-sanchez-torpedear-unidad-otan-visperas-una-cumbre-crucial-5725044/

Barrionuevo, Vera and other PSOE veterans demand Sánchez’s ‘resignation’ in a letter- to ‘safeguard the dignity’ of the party: {Translation, summary}
– Former ministers and senior officials of the PSOE sent a letter to Ferraz on Tuesday demanding the “immediate” resignation of Pedro Sánchez as the party’s Secretary General and calling for an Extraordinary Congress to be held in order to “safeguard the dignity” of its voters.
– The letter, signed by nearly 40 party veterans, includes former ministers such as José Barrionuevo, César Antonio Molina, and Javier Sáenz Cosculluela, as well as other prominent party figures like Rafael Vera Fernández-Huidobro, Rafael Delgado Rojas, Nicolás Redondo, Eduardo Blanco, Alejandro Cercas, and Eligio Hernández, among others. Some of them, such as Barrionuevo and Vera, were sentenced to 10 years in prison for the first GAL operation.
– “The undersigned, people who have held public responsibilities on behalf of socialist governments or the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) itself and who maintain a firm commitment to its founding values, want to express our deep concern over the serious deterioration caused by the ongoing scandals affecting the current party leadership,” the letter begins.
– They go on to state that corruption cases “linked to people of utmost trust” of Pedro Sánchez, such as his two secretaries general, add to “a practice of government characterised by spurious political decisions” that have resulted in “an effective mutation of the Constitution, which was approved by referendum by the Spanish people.”
– As they explain, these statements refer to “the unjustified extension of the General State Budgets, the progressive marginalisation of the legislative power, the repeated failure to meet electoral commitments, the deterioration of the rule of law, the discretionary exercise of executive power, the occupation of state control bodies, opaque negotiations over an amnesty law tailored to the demands of a fugitive from justice, and the alarming lack of transparency in public management.” Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/noticia/5725008/0/exministros-rostros-historicos-psoe-piden-renuncia-inmediata-sanchez-para-salvaguardar-dignidad/
MALAGA PROVINCE
Malaga experiences its first hot summer dawn with a minimum temperature of 26C: {Translation, summary}
– The dreaded hot summer nights are already here. This past St John’s Day (San Juan), the heat was the main feature in Málaga, alongside bonfires, fireworks, and night-time swims. In fact, the city experienced its first torrid night of the summer, with minimum temperatures of 26 degrees Celsius. (In climatology, such torrid nights refer to those when minimum temperatures do not drop below 25ºC).
– According to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the port of Málaga recorded 26.1 degrees, while the airport reached 26.2 degrees. At the Málaga Central Meteorological Centre, the minimum temperature was also 26 degrees during the early hours of Tuesday.
– For Wednesday, Meteorology has issued a yellow heat warning for the province of Málaga. The alert, which will be in effect from 1 pm to 9 pm, affects Malaga City and the Guadalhorce area, where maximum temperatures of 36 ºC are expected. (Temperatures are also expected to reach 36 degrees in the capital area).
– “The northward movement of the DANA (isolated low-pressure area) and its subsequent reintegration into the general circulation will bring the terral wind to the usual areas of the Málaga province. We will have almost two days of terral, Wednesday and probably Thursday, which will ease from around 1 pm,” Escudero explains on his blog.
From Thursday onwards a clear return of high temperatures across the region is expected.
– Thus, Aemet has activated a yellow warning from 1 pm to 9 pm for the Córdoba countryside and the Genil Basin in Granada, as well as most of Jaén province, specifically the Morena and Condado, Cazorla and Segura, and Guadalquivir Valley areas. In all these zones, maximum temperatures will be around 39 degrees, although locally they may reach 40ºC.
– In the provincial capitals, the following minimum and maximum temperatures are expected: Almería, 24ºC and 34ºC; Cádiz, 20ºC and 22ºC; Córdoba, 21ºC and 38ºC; Granada, 23ºC and 38ºC; Huelva, 18ºC and 25ºC; Jaén, 21ºC and 35ºC; Málaga, 23ºC and 30ºC; and Seville, 19ºC and 29ºC. The medical director of Malaga Regional Hospital resigns amid complaints about staff shortages: {Translation, summary}
– The medical director of Málaga’s Regional University Hospital, Fernando Salgado, has resigned, as confirmed by the hospital. His resignation occurs amid protests over cuts in the Andalusian Health Service’s summer plan, bed shortages and understaffing of facilities.
– Unions, including SATSE, SMM, and CSIF, have reported losses of 350 nurses and ten temporary doctor contracts, and 244 bed closures, alongside workload pressures. The Materno Infantil faces a “care collapse” due to insufficient staff, prompting CSIF to complain to the Ombudsman.
– Salgado will remain a consultant in Internal Medicine. The hospital thanked him for his two-year tenure.
– Recently, Luciana Jiménez replaced Pedro Medina, who resigned as medical director of Virgen de la Victoria in April 2025, citing personal reasons. Juan José Sánchez Luque also resigned as Materno Infantil’s deputy director on 27 March 2025, replaced by Natalia Mena-Vázquez. RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA
Rincón de la Victoria town hall fines 25 owners for not cleaning up after their pets:
– Since the start of the genetic (DNA) pet identification programme, which began last year, around a hundred poop samples have been taken. To date, 25 penalties have been imposed on owners who do not pick up their pets’ waste, as well as on those who have not complied with the obligation of genetic identification. Fines for these offences range from 75 to 500 euros, as set out in the municipal regulations.
– The department of health and consumer affairs of Rincón de la Victoria is launching a new initiative as part of its campaign to raise awareness about the importance of keeping public spaces clean by encouraging pet owners to clean up after their animals. Councillor Lola Ramos announced that, during the months of July and August, information points will be set up in the municipal markets, where refillable bottles for diluting and mitigating the corrosive effect of urine, as well as bag dispensers for the collection of waste will be distributed. Trump hurls profane rant at Israel and Iran for breaking Monday’s cease-fire- “Both don’t know what the f–k they’re doing”:
– President Trump announced early Tuesday that the cease-fire between Iran and Israel was back on, just moments after launching a blistering attack on both for breaking it, saying both nations “don’t know what the f–k they’re doing.”
– “Israel is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly ‘Plane Wave’ to Iran,” he wrote on Truth Social just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
– His Truth post came just moments after the president raged at both nations as he left Joint Base Andrews for a NATO summit. “I think they both violated it (Monday’s ceasefire),” Trump said of Israel’s promise to resume attacks after accusing Iran of a “blatant violation” by firing more missiles. “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f–k they’re doing, do you understand?”
– He made clear he was “not happy with Israel” and had to “get Israel to calm down now.” “Israel, as soon as we made the (ceasefire) deal, they came out and dropped a boatload of bombs the likes of which I’ve never seen before. The biggest load that we’ve seen, I’m not happy with Israel,” Trump said. “OK, when I say now you have 12 hours (until the ceasefire begins), you don’t go out in the first hour and just drop everything you have on them. So, I’m not happy with him. I’m not happy with Iran either,” the president added.
– Trump said he was “unhappy if Israel is going out this morning because of one rocket that didn’t land (was shot down), that was shot perhaps by mistake, but didn’t land,” referring to Israeli allegations that Iran fired missiles toward Israel after the cease-fire went into effect on Tuesday.

Up to 50% of patients do not respond to chemotherapy- a test can now predict your response: {Translation, summary}
– Chemotherapy remains a key cancer treatment, involving various drugs combined to improve effectiveness and personalise therapy. However, 20-50% of patients do not respond to chemotherapy and suffer side effects without benefit. Bárbara Hernando of CNIO and colleagues have developed a genomic test, published in Nature Genetics, that predicts which patients will not respond to common chemotherapy drugs like platinum compounds, taxanes, and anthracyclines.
– This test identifies “chromosomal instability signatures” in tumours, which vary between patients and influence chemotherapy resistance. Hernando explains, “This genomic test tells us whether a patient will be resistant to one chemotherapy or another, depending on the chromosomal alterations present in their tumours.”
– Validated in ovarian, breast, prostate cancers, and sarcomas, the test is being piloted at Madrid’s 12 de Octubre Hospital for other cancers. Geoff Macintyre adds, “Between 20% and 50% of cancer patients do not respond to these drugs. These patients will suffer side effects caused by chemotherapy with no clinical benefit.” The test promises more effective, personalised treatment and reduced healthcare costs. You thought WhatsApp was secure? Nope, THEY LIED! The U.S. House Bans WhatsApp On All Official Devices Over Security & Data Protection Issues:
– The U.S. House of Representatives has formally banned congressional staff members from using WhatsApp on government-issued devices, citing security concerns. The decision, according to the House Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), was motivated by worries about the app’s security.
– “The Office of Cybersecurity has deemed WhatsApp a high-risk to users due to the lack of transparency in how it protects user data, absence of stored data encryption, and potential security risks involved with its use,” the CAO said in a memo, according to Axios. To that end, House staff are prohibited from downloading the app on any device issued by the government, including its mobile, desktop, or web browser versions.
– {WhatsApp uses deceptive ads claiming it’s secure since they use “end-to-end encryption” for messaging. That is only a small part of the messaging app; they neglect to mention all the other tasks required for it to work that are not secured. As I have previously warned, anything you post on WhatsApp, and your location when you do so, should be considered public knowledge! -Ed.}

RIP Mick Ralphs, founding member of Bad Company and Mott the Hoople, dies at 81:
– Mick Ralphs, a guitarist, singer, songwriter and founding member of the classic British rock bands Bad Company and Mott the Hoople, has died.
– Born in Stoke Lacy, Herefordshire, England, Ralphs began playing blues guitar as a teenager, and in his early 20s in 1966, he co-founded the Doc Thomas Group. In 1969, the band would become Mott the Hoople, a name taken from the title and title character of a 1966 novel by Willard Manus.
– A statement posted to Bad Company’s official website Monday announced Ralphs’ death at age 81. Ralphs had a stroke days after what would be his final performance with the band at London’s O2 Arena in 2016, and had been bedridden ever since, the statement said. No further details on the circumstances of his death were provided.
– Ralphs is set to become a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Bad Company in November.
– Ralphs wrote the 1970’s song “Ready for Love” for Mott the Hoople, later revamped for Bad Company’s 1974 debut album, which also included the Ralphs-penned hit “Can’t Get Enough.” He co-wrote Bad Company’s 1975 classic “Feel Like Makin’ Love” with Rodgers.
