SPAIN
Pedro is the odd man out at NATO meeting: {Translation, summary}
– Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez once again stood apart from other international leaders in the group photo taken at the NATO summit in The Hague on Wednesday. In the photo taken the previous day, Sánchez had already distanced himself from US President Donald Trump, and they were also seated at different tables at the dinner hosted by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, amid controversy over the 5% increase in defence spending. Trump threatens Spain with a trade war & double tariffs over defence spending conflict- ‘What Spain is doing is terrible, and we are going to make them pay for it.’: {Translation}
– The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has criticised Spain following the Spanish Government’s refusal to commit to 5% defence spending: “What Spain is doing is terrible, and we will make them pay.”
– Trump responded to the agreement between Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte: “It’s the only country that won’t pay the full amount; they want to stay at 2%. I think it’s terrible. You know, their economy is doing very well, but that economy could disappear with a single stroke of the pen if something bad were to happen.”
– President Trump warned at his end-of-summit press conference in the Hague, Spain would simply be better off pitching in, rather than trying to duck their responsibilities. He continued: “I think it’s too bad. So we’ll make it up, you know what we’re going to do? We’re negotiating with Spain on a trade deal, we’re going to make them pay twice as much. And I’m actually serious about that. And I like Spain…they’re great people. But Spain is the only country of all the countries that refuses to pay. They want a little bit of a free ride, so they’ll have to pay it back to us on trade as I won’t let that happen, it’s not fair”. He later added: “I’m going to negotiate directly with Spain, I’m going to do it myself. They’ll pay more money this way”.

The Audiencia Nacional (AN) confirms the €10,800 fine for Rubiales for the non-consensual kiss to Jenni Hermoso: {Translation, summary}
– The National Court confirmed a €10,800 fine against former Royal Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales for sexual assault after forcibly kissing footballer Jennifer Hermoso without her consent during the 2023 Women’s World Cup medal ceremony. Rubiales is banned from approaching Hermoso within 200 metres or contacting her for one year and must pay €3,000 in moral damages plus half the legal costs.

Spain facilitates transhipment and transit of products of companies installed in illegal Israeli settlements: {Translation, summary}
– An investigation by the Palestinian Youth Movement reveals that Spanish ports facilitate the transit and transhipment of goods from Israeli companies operating in illegal settlements in occupied Palestinian territories, primarily through the Barkan Industrial Zone in the West Bank.
– Hundreds of shipments destined for the US passed through Spanish ports between November 2024 and June 2025, involving products from companies linked to settlements deemed illegal under international law.
– This trade supports the economic sustainability of these settlements, violating a ruling by the International Court of Justice and UN resolutions demanding an end to Israel’s occupation. Spain, which voted in favour of these UN resolutions, continues to allow such commerce, including shipments of military goods.
– Civil society groups call for an immediate and comprehensive arms embargo on Israel and stricter controls on port activities. Sánchez confirms that he wants to be a candidate in the next general election ‘in 2027’ and assures that he still has a majority in Congress despite being unable to pass a budget:
{Translation, summary}
– The Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, is trying to move on and appear normal after the shock caused by the involvement of the former number three of the PSOE, Santos Cerdán, in the Koldo case. – Furthermore, the Prime Minister went a step further and stated that he wants to be the PSOE candidate again in that future election, and assured that he still maintains a solid parliamentary majority to continue governing, despite the criticism he has received from his coalition partners in recent weeks. ANDALUCÍA
Local Police in Andalusia will add tasers to their kit: {Translation, summary}
– Antonio Sanz, Andalusia’s Minister for the Presidency, Interior, Social Dialogue and Administrative Simplification, has announced that Andalusia will be the first region in Spain to authorise the use of tasers by Local Police across all municipalities. This legal change will be part of updated regulations for police equipment and standardisation, with plans to extend it to other security forces.
– Speaking at the PP Security Forum in Málaga, Sanz criticised the Spanish Government’s lack of response to rising organised crime, describing the Interior Minister as “missing.” He highlighted increasing crime rates, especially drug trafficking in Cádiz, Seville and Huelva, and called for greater resources, more police officers, and better protection for law enforcement. Sanz also demanded that police work be classified as a high-risk profession and that assaults on police be recognised as a European crime to toughen penalties.
– Notably, no public referendum was held on the introduction of tasers, a controversial electroshock weapon designed to temporarily incapacitate suspects. Source, Spanish: https://www.malagahoy.es/andalucia/policia-local-andalucia-sera-primera_0_2004210528.html

UKRAINE WAR
At least 20 killed, 300 hurt after Russia bombards Ukrainian heartland:
– At least 20 people were killed and up to 300 injured in a massive Russian airborne assault on the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro in the country’s industrial heartland, authorities said Wednesday.
– Dnipropetrovsk Gov. Serhii Lysak said in a social media update that the strikes during the daytime on Tuesday killed 18 people in Dnipro and two in a separate attack on Samar, 10 miles away to the northeast, with nearly 300 people injured across the province.
– Three people were killed near the frontline in Donetsk, according to Gov. Vadym Filashkin, less than 100 miles east of Dnipro, where Ukrainian forces are battling to hold off a Russian advance poised to break through to the west into Ukraine’s industrial heartland.
– Earlier this month, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that Russian troops and units of its 90th Guards Tank Division had penetrated into Dnipropetrovsk without resistance and were pushing forward. Ukraine rejected the claim outright as fake news, but Emil Kastehelmi, an analyst at the Finland-based Black Bird Group, told the Kyiv Independent that geolocation data indicated an incursion by Russian troops had occurred. Windows 10 Security Updates one year extension plan, should be available by Mid-August:
– Microsoft on Tuesday announced that it’s extending Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) for an extra year by letting users pay a small fee of $30.
– The development comes ahead of the tech giant’s upcoming October 14, 2025, deadline, when it plans to officially end support and stop providing security updates for devices running Windows 10. The desktop operating system was launched in July 2015.
– The Windows maker describes ESU as a “last resort option” for customers who need to run legacy Microsoft software that has reached end-of-life (EoL) status. This is meant to be a temporary solution while migrating to a newer supported platform.
– ESU coverage for Windows 10 devices runs from October 15, 2025, to October 13, 2026, and is expected to be rolled out to Windows 10 customers in July, with expanded availability set for mid-August. Full article: https://thehackernews.com/2025/06/microsoft-extends-windows-10-security.html

Meta confirms technical error suspended thousands of Facebook Groups:
– Meta is blaming a technical error for suspending thousands of Facebook Groups, in the United States and internationally, angering millions of users. The company confirmed the problem Tuesday and said it is working to fix it.
– The Facebook Groups reported receiving warnings, which cited violations for nudity or “terrorism-related” content. All of the groups deny the violations. Among the many groups suspended were some focused on bird-watching, parenting support, as well as dog owners or gaming groups. An interior design group was flagged for referencing “dangerous organizations.”
– Facebook and Instagram are not the first social networks to experience mass suspensions. Pinterest and Tumblr groups have also reported suspensions in the past few weeks.
– While Meta has not shared what is causing the issue, some users suspect AI-automated moderation could be to blame, as others threaten to file a class action lawsuit. Full article: https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2025/06/24/meta-suspends-facebook-groups/5531750820668/
