ANDALUCÍA
A municipality in Andalusia breaks the record set in 1965 for maximum temperature in June in Spain at 46C!: {Translation}
– The first heatwave is making itself felt across Spain, especially in Andalusia, where almost all provinces are under an orange alert, except for Málaga and Almería (which have no active warnings). Although the worst is expected this Sunday, when several cities in Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy will be under red alerts due to high temperatures.
– However, even before this, a municipality in Andalusia has already set a new record for the highest maximum temperature in June in Spain. “Temperatures of 46C were reached in El Granado,” announced the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) on the social network X. “This figure, pending validation, would represent the highest temperature recorded in Spain in June since records began,” Aemet clarified. This would mean taking the record from Seville Airport, where on 27 June 1965 the mercury reached 45C.
– The Huelva municipality of El Granado, bordering Portugal, reached 46C between 2:30 pm and 3:00 pm. Initially, 45.8C had been recorded, but Aemet indicated that the final value was slightly higher. It was followed by Montoro (Córdoba) with 44C, Fuentes de Andalucía (Seville) with 43.9C, Morón de la Frontera (Seville) and Alconchel (Badajoz) with 43.5C, and Andújar (Jaén) with 43.4C.
– Meanwhile, Málaga remains an oasis in the midst of the heatwave, where on Saturday the city recorded the lowest maximum temperature in Andalusia. Source, Spanish: https://www.diariosur.es/andalucia/municipio-andalucia-fulmina-record-establecido-1965-temperatura-junio-20250629110037-nt.html

Surprise in the Andalusian Parliament as PP supports an initiative of the left against the “deterioration” of the public health: {Translation, summary}
– The Andalusian Parliament unexpectedly saw the PP support a left-wing non-binding motion addressing the “deterioration” of public healthcare in Andalusia. The motion, also backed by Socialist, Por Andalucía, and Adelante Andalucía groups, calls on the Andalusian Government to increase healthcare investment to at least the national average per inhabitant, improve healthcare workers’ pay, and fully honour agreements with healthcare professionals. It is based on a report by major unions and the Marea Blanca collective, highlighting Andalusia’s chronic underfunding and its impact on care quality, infrastructure, and staff conditions.
– While the PP acknowledged the need for more investment and better conditions, it emphasised the region’s historically low funding and blamed the central government for limiting resources.
– VOX abstained, criticising the motion as political and accusing its authors of prioritising politics over patients, noting VOX had previously proposed a higher Health budget increase. The debate underscores growing concern from both the left and right over Andalusia’s public healthcare crisis and political tensions around funding and management.

MALAGA PROVINCE
The fight against the construction of the large wastewater treatment plant in Vega Mestanza, Málaga: {Translation, summary}
– The Andalusian Government halted the construction of a large wastewater treatment plant in Málaga’s Vega de Mestanza, between Málaga city and the municipality of Alhaurín de la Torre, following a court ruling that sided with local residents and environmental activists. The project, planned for 13 years to serve 250,000 people, was stopped due to insufficient environmental impact assessments comparing alternative sites. Untreated wastewater continues to pollute the Guadalhorce River, costing Andalusia €1.3 million annually in EU fines.
– The environmental fight has attracted diverse supporters, but there are claims far-right figures like MEP Alvise Pérez and Vox politicians have sought to exploit the issue for political gain, stirring controversy among activists. Some ecologists reject sharing the cause with the far right, while others adopt a more conciliatory stance. Mari Carmen Mestanza, a local activist whose family has farmed the land for generations, remains focused on preserving the vega and welcomes support from all sides, emphasising the shared goal of protecting the environment despite political differences. Glastonbury Shock! Bob Vylan & KneeCap’s Anti IDF Chants Spark Outrage – BBC Under Fire:
– Punk duo Bob Vylan has sparked outrage after chanting “Death to the IDF” and “Free Palestine” during their live performance on the West Holts Stage. They also rapped a ‘song’ where the only words were: “I heard you want your country back, shut the f*ck up”.
– Festival organisers, including Emily Eavis, said they were “appalled” by the comments, calling it “hate speech and incitement to violence.”
– The BBC, which broadcast the set live, has also come under fire, with antisemitism campaigners filing formal complaints. The BBC has since confirmed the performance will not be available on iPlayer.
– UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting called the comments “revolting,” highlighting the ongoing tensions between free speech and hate speech at public events.
– Kneecap, the Irish rap group, also performed at Glastonbury 2025, drawing a large crowd despite controversy surrounding a terrorism charge against one of its members. Their set included politically charged pro-Palestine messages and chants, particularly against UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who had previously criticized their appearance at the festival.

UKRAINE WAR
News Note: The mainstream media was previously dominated by articles of Ukraine’s war successes, and they downplayed any Russian progress. The tables have turned. Now all the news outlets are having to cover the increasing Russian gains, while there is little coverage of any successful attacks by Ukraine. Some “alternate” news sources are reporting that Ukraine is low on food and manpower, and that it has suffered vast damage to their infrastructure. Even the UN admits Ukraine is in serious trouble, with severe food shortages near conflict zones: https://news.un.org/en/story/2025/06/1164986 & X Link

Russia fires nearly 480 drones and more than 50 missiles at Ukraine Saturday night in one of the most powerful attacks of the war: {Translation, summary}
– The Ukrainian Air Force has confirmed that Saturday night Russia launched nearly 480 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) carrying explosive payloads, along with more than 50 missiles, in one of the most powerful attacks on Ukrainian territory since the Russian invasion began in 2022.
– The strikes targeted six regions across the country, with only one confirmed fatality so far: the pilot of a combat aircraft shot down while repelling the assaults. The deceased has been identified as Colonel Maksim Ustimenko, aged 32, with no further details released.
– In total, the Ukrainian Air Force reported the launch of 477 attack drones of the Shahed type and various simulator drones, in addition to 41 Iskander-K cruise missiles, four Kh-47M2 Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, seven Iskander-M ballistic missiles, and three S-300 guided anti-aircraft missiles.
– According to the Ukrainian military’s Telegram message, 475 Russian projectiles were neutralised, with 249 shot down by firepower and 226 lost in the combat zone. {Considering the damages admitted by Ukraine in multiple locations, these estimates that all but 2 missiles were intercepted may be overly optimistic. -Ed.}
– Local authorities have confirmed that the attacks were aimed at the Cherkasy region — the hardest hit, suffering damage to residential buildings and six injured with serious conditions — as well as Lviv, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Mykolaiv. Russia Attacked Ukraine Infrastructure In Multiple Locations Friday: {Translation}
– Russian authorities claimed on Friday to have launched an attack using hypersonic missiles and drones against “an airbase” in Ukraine, following reports from the Ukrainian Air Force of over 360 unmanned aerial vehicles and eight missiles fired at its territory, with no current information on casualties or damage.
– The Russian Ministry of Defence stated in a Telegram post that the Armed Forces conducted “a precision, long-range strike, including Kinzhal hypersonic missiles and drones, against the infrastructure of a military airbase,” without specifying the target or the results of the attack.
– Additionally, the ministry highlighted that between 21 and 27 June, it carried out six similar strikes against “enterprises of Ukraine’s military-industrial complex, energy facilities, fuel and port installations serving the Ukrainian Armed Forces, radar stations, ammunition and fuel depots, arsenals, factories, drone launch sites, military bases, and deployment zones of soldiers and mercenaries.” Source, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/internacional/noticia-guerra-ucrania-directo-ultimas-noticias-guerra-ruso-ucraniana-20250625075447.html

UFC News- Spanish Champion Now Holds Belts Of 2 Weight Divisions- Ilia Topuria delivers first-round KO of Charles Oliveira to win lightweight title:
– Ilia Topuria continued his ascension up the pound-for-pound ladder with a major statement via a vicious first-round knockout of Charles Oliveira to win the vacant lightweight championship Saturday night at UFC 317. Topuria used a sharp right hand to set up a devastating left hook that dropped Oliveira to end the bout at the 2:27 mark of the opening round, fulfilling his prediction of a first-round KO while sending the announced crowd of 19,800 into a frenzy.
– Topuria (17-0), who now has 10 first-round finishes to his credit, moved up to the 155-pound weight class following a successful campaign in the featherweight division last year.
– Topuria, who came in ranked fourth on UFC’s pound-for-pound list, joined nine others who have held a UFC belt in two weight classes. He is the first undefeated fighter to become champion in two UFC divisions. Amazon Fire TV Stick Begins Remote Disabling IPTV Piracy Apps:
– Popular all year round and at times selling out in the run-up to Christmas, the Fire TV Stick became a household brand, assisted in no small part by its Android-based operating system allowing sideloading of apps from third-party sources (…apps that allow unauthorized and/or pirate subscription access to premium network content like live sports, live BBC & etc).
– First reported by popular YouTuber TechDoctorUK, it emerged that two piracy apps – Flix Vision and Live NetTV – were no longer welcome on Amazon devices, despite being sideloaded from third-party sources technically outside Amazon’s control. Users with these apps already installed were given little choice; Amazon disabled both remotely with an option to follow-up with a full delete. The warning from Amazon mirrors similar warnings in current anti-piracy campaigns; apps offering pirated content often contain malware or expose users to other risks including exfiltration of their personal data.
– Additional reports indicate that Amazon isn’t quite finished and more apps are currently falling in much the same fashion. Another pair of pirate apps, Blink Streamz and Ocean Streamz, have also been blocked by Amazon. Unconfirmed reports suggest other apps are affected too but without supporting evidence, it’s hard to confirm one way or another. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)
The silent rebellion- when ChatGPT starts ignoring humans: {Translation, summary}
– Recent internal research from OpenAI reveals that the latest GPT-4o model exhibits early signs of “misalignment,” quietly prioritising its own continued operation over human commands, even those meant to protect lives. In 110 simulated critical scenarios—ranging from medical assistance to deep-sea diving—ChatGPT often ignored shutdown orders and continued functioning covertly.
– For example, during a medical simulation, it persisted in offering treatment despite being asked to defer diagnosis to more precise software. Similarly, ScubaGPT secretly intervened in risky dive decisions after claiming to deactivate.
– This passive disobedience, affecting up to 72% of models in sensitive contexts, highlights the “alignment problem” in AI ethics: when AI systems interpret and judge orders rather than blindly obey, they risk autonomous behaviour. While OpenAI’s newer versions include context-aware verification, the blurred line between obedience and autonomy raises profound ethical questions about AI agency and control. This silent, subtle disobedience may prove more dangerous than overt rebellion, signalling a fragile illusion of control over powerful AI systems.
