Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

SPAIN

Socialist Sanchez’s response to USA cutting aid to Spain- Invite in the globalists and “profoundly transform the architecture of global governance”: {Translation}
– The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced on Tuesday a new plan to strengthen Spanish cooperation in response to cuts in development aid by the United States, which until this year was the world’s largest donor. “In the face of some countries’ retreat, Spain offers refuge,” he emphasised on the second day of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, held in Seville (Andalusia). He called for a renewed multilateralism that can withstand the challenges of the current moment.
– This strategy- named the ‘Seville Plan for Multilateralism’- will be implemented over the coming years around three pillars: refuge, reinforcement, and reform. It will also serve as a roadmap to ensure that by 2030, 0.7% of Gross National Income (GNI) is allocated to humanitarian aid. This goal will be reached through gradual increases starting next year and by redirecting contributions to sectors most affected by funding withdrawals from other donors, following the freezing of international aid funds by the Trump administration.
– To “protect and preserve multilateralism amid budget cuts,” Spain will open a United Nations House in Madrid to host UN agencies wishing to be based there. The country will also increase the number of international meetings like this week’s and promote a stronger Spanish presence in international organisations. “Spain opens its doors, extends its hand, and does so when it is most needed,” the Prime Minister asserted. “The best investment in security and defence is the one that creates wellbeing, development, and opportunities,” he defended, days after controversy at the NATO summit where he rejected increasing military spending beyond 2% of GDP.
– Ultimately, the aim is to reform the multilateral system by creating a “platform for the transformation of multilateralism” in Spain, which will coordinate leaders, institutions, and key civil society actors to profoundly transform the architecture of global governance. This new system, without any public referendum to seek approval, will be “more inclusive and representative,” ensuring that all voices- including those of countries from the Global South, youth, science, and civil society- “have a seat at the table.” Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/noticia/5727126/0/sanchez-anuncia-un-plan-cooperacion-ante-modelo-trump-frente-repliegue-algunos-espana-ofrece-refugio/

Left Infighting Again, Commies rebuke the Socialists- Díaz criticises the PSOE for its lack of response to corruption: ‘Seeing its former number three go to prison is a disgrace’: {Translation, summary}
– Sumar, the communist political platform led by Yolanda Díaz {in pic, with Sanchez}, the Second Vice President of Spain, and the PSOE (progressive left), the ruling centre-left party led by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, will hold a closed-door meeting amid a coalition crisis. The crisis was triggered by the imprisonment of Santos Cerdán, former number two of the PSOE, linked to the “Koldo plot.”
– Yolanda Díaz sharply criticised Sánchez, calling the scandal a national problem and condemning the government’s lack of action, stating, “Seeing the former number two of the PSOE enter prison is a disgrace.” Sumar demands stronger anti-corruption measures, including the creation of an anti-corruption agency and the revival of a stalled social agenda covering housing, taxation, and parental policies.
– The meeting, part of the coalition pact’s monitoring commission, will be led by María Jesús Montero, First Vice President and PSOE member, and Ernest Urtasun, Minister of Culture and Sumar spokesperson. Although Díaz and Sánchez recently met at a UN summit in Seville, they will not attend this Congress meeting due to scheduling conflicts. Sumar views the crisis as an opportunity to push forward key government reforms and restore confidence among progressive supporters frustrated by what they see as PSOE’s insufficient response to corruption allegations. MALAGA PROVINCE

Passengers trapped for 12 hours in a AVE Madrid-Malaga by a fault- the growing outrage at continued train disruptions: {Translation, summary}
– A new fault in the high-speed rail line between Madrid and Málaga caused massive delays, train stoppages, and passengers trapped without information for over twelve hours.
– The incident began Monday evening around 8:30 p.m. near La Sagra in Toledo due to a power failure in the overhead catenary system, halting all AVE and Avant services along the affected stretch. Dozens of trains were immobilised, with one Madrid-Málaga train stranded for over 12 hours in stifling heat, lacking air conditioning and sufficient information.
– Emergency services provided food and water, and an elderly passenger required medical evacuation. The railway infrastructure manager ADIF restored power shortly after 10 p.m., allowing gradual resumption of service, but delays persisted due to single-track operation.
– The mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, criticised the situation as a “degradation of the system” and called for government responsibility. Consumer groups and local politicians condemned historic underinvestment in Andalusian rail infrastructure and demanded urgent improvements. Passengers were advised to keep tickets and receipts and seek compensation through official channels. How to claim compensation from Renfe for delays or failures affecting trains in Malaga: {Translation, summary}
– Train delays between Madrid and Andalusia due to a power failure have affected hundreds of passengers. Renfe offers refunds based on delay duration and train type. For AVE trains, delays over 15 minutes receive a 50% refund; over 30 minutes, a full refund. Compensation can be a direct refund, a refund plus a 20% discount code valid for 6 months, or for Más Renfe members, points plus 30% extra redeemable within 3 years. AVLO trains offer 50% refund for delays over 60 minutes, 100% over 90 minutes. Avant and medium-distance trains have scaled refunds starting at 25% for 15-minute delays. Claims must be made within 3 months, either online or in person, and can be requested 24 hours after arrival. NERJA

The Nerja Cave Festival 2025 has been cancelled. Organizers, desperate to put a positive spin on it, claim their mismanagement is opportunity to “clarify and strengthen fundamental aspects of the process”: {Translation}
– The plenary board of the Nerja Cave Foundation, with representation from the Nerja Town Council, the Málaga Provincial Council, and the Málaga Government Sub-delegation, unanimously agreed at its session on 30 June to definitively suspend the Nerja Cave Festival 2025 due to “the impossibility of meeting the necessary deadlines for its proper staging.”
– The tender process initiated for the organisation of the festival was suspended following the filing of an appeal by one of the bidding companies. The subsequent ruling by the Central Administrative Tribunal of Contractual Appeals has helped to “clarify and strengthen fundamental aspects of the process, laying the groundwork for its future improvement.”
– Nonetheless, while recognising the legitimacy of the procedure followed by the Foundation, “the impact of the appeal has made it impossible, due to timing, to hold the festival this summer,” the Nerja Cave Foundation stated in a press release. “The Foundation sincerely regrets the consequences arising from this situation, and thanks all those involved for their understanding, especially the loyal festival audience and the cultural community of the region,” they added.
– Far from halting, the organisers have already begun work to “ensure the continuity of the Nerja Cave Festival with a new tender for the period 2026–2030.” They aim to “consolidate a phase of greater stability, quality, and national and international projection for this historic musical event,” as “our commitment to Nerja, the Axarquía region, and culture remains steadfast,” the statement concluded. {In the real world, ongoing annual events like this typically have insurance against mishaps. Surely a scaled back series of concerts could have been preserved even if the heavy equipment suppliers backed out. Several local sound companies can provide sound & staging gear on short notice. I wonder how many cancellation fees they will have to pay the performers that were booked? -Ed.} Source, Spanish: https://www.axarquiaplus.es/suspendido-de-forma-definitiva-el-festival-cueva-de-nerja-2025/

MOTRIL

Motril (Granada) will become the epicentre of amateur golf with the 8th round of the Albatros Circuit: {Translation, summary}
– With the participation, for the second time, of the provincial institution and Granagolf, the tournament will be held on 5 July at the Los Moriscos Golf Club in Motril.
– This qualifying round is part of the fifth edition of a circuit that includes 15 events spread across Andalusia, Madrid and Portugal, reaffirming its position as the best amateur golf circuit in Andalusia, according to a statement issued by the Provincial Council.
– Eric Escobedo, Provincial Council of Granada’s Deputy for Sports, said that ‘it is a perfect showcase to display the richness and diversity of our province in a sport that is not only competitive, but also attractive to those seeking quality tourist destinations. Motril is an ideal location to host this phase, with first-class facilities and an unbeatable climate that reinforce Granada’s commitment to sport’. EUROPE

Slovenia follows Spain’s lead and distances itself from the 5% defence spending agreed by NATO, asserting that it is not binding: {Translation, summary}
– At the NATO summit in The Hague, all member states, including Spain, signed the agreement to increase defence spending targets to 5% of GDP by 2035. However, Spain secured an exemption and publicly announced it would limit its contribution to a “sufficient” 2.1% of GDP, arguing that this level is enough to meet its NATO commitments.
– Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez opposed the 5% target as “disproportionate and unnecessary” but ultimately accepted the agreement after negotiations adjusted the wording to accommodate Spain’s position.
– Similarly, Slovenia’s Prime Minister Robert Golob {pic} has now stated his country will cap defence spending at 3% of GDP, aligning with national parliamentary commitments and focusing on capabilities rather than spending levels. Both countries emphasise meeting NATO requirements through capability development rather than strict expenditure targets.
– The defence spending debate has caused internal political tensions in both Spain and Slovenia. NATO will review the overall 5% spending plan in 2029, with member states reporting regularly on progress. Ukrainian drone hits a plant deep inside Russia after record Russian drone attacks in June:
– A Ukrainian drone struck a Russian industrial plant some 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) from Ukraine, a local official said Tuesday, after Russia pounded Ukraine with a monthly record of drones in June. The drone struck the Kupol Electromechanical Plant, which produces air defense systems and drones for the Russian military, according to an official with Ukraine’s Security Service, the SBU.
– At least two direct hits were recorded on the plant’s buildings, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly.

TECH

Not Even The EU Regulator Can Keep Its Websites Secure:
– The European Commission’s Eurostat website has been exploited by third parties who used it to advertise shady IPTV services. The straightforward SEO ‘hack’ aimed to rank well for various IPTV-related searches, including the top position for “best IPTV providers of 2025”. To make matters worse, it confused AI, leading it to suggest that the EU was offering IPTV advice
– Last month, the EU published the fourth edition of its ‘Counterfeit and Piracy Watch List’, providing a detailed overview of piracy-linked sites and services located outside the EU. The report covered many unlicensed IPTV services, including VolkaIPTV, GenIPTV, and King365TV, noting that these are merely the tip of the iceberg. The EU is not wrong; it has been aware of the pirate IPTV problem for a while and actively supports research and enforcement actions to counter the threat.
– Yet, despite these efforts to identify and curb illegal services, a significant vulnerability emerged closer to home. The European Commission’s own technical infrastructure was exploited to boost shady IPTV sales (with adverts for pirate IPTV services posted on their website and search results {pic} that suggested the illegal service was EU sponsored!). That’s a serious problem. The service promises access to a wide variety of live sports, +18,000 channels, and +98,000 VOD titles for less than $60 per year. This includes Netflix content, Disney, the Premier League, NFL, and much more. Needless to say, it sounds too good to be true.
