SPAIN

Prosecutors are supposed to be politically neutral, so why is Prieto opposing the Supreme Court’s decision to investigate Bolaños for the Begoña Gómez case- that multiple judges have deemed worthy of investigation?: {Translation}
– The Public Prosecutor’s Office has opposed the Supreme Court accepting the request made by Judge Juan Carlos Peinado to investigate the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes, Félix Bolaños, for alleged offences of false testimony and embezzlement in the Begoña Gómez case. Legal sources indicate that this is the position taken by Prosecutor Fernando Prieto {a 2021 Sánchez appointee, so with a vested interest Begoña’s case, imagine that…pic} in the report submitted to the Admissions Chamber, which must now decide whether to follow the line set by the Public Prosecutor’s Office or, on the contrary, accede to Peinado’s request.
– The presiding judge of Instruction Court Number 41 in Madrid submitted a reasoned statement to the Supreme Court asking for an investigation into Bolaños, considering that he committed these offences in relation to the hiring of Cristina Álvarez as an adviser to Gómez.
– The false testimony charge was based on contradictions observed between the statements given by Bolaños and the Moncloa personnel manager, Raúl Díaz, as witnesses.
– Regarding the embezzlement, it was argued that Bolaños was responsible for overseeing public funds used to pay Álvarez, who assisted Gómez not only in her role as the wife of the Prime Minister but also in her private activities.

ANDALUCÍA

Subsidies of up to €9,000 available in Andalusia for purchasing electric vehicles: {Translation}
– The Andalusian Government’s MOVES III 2025 incentives, under Royal Decree-Law 3/2025, aim to boost electric vehicle purchases and charging infrastructure to support transport decarbonisation in line with Spain’s National Energy and Climate Plan. The application period opens on 15 July 2025.
– The application process typically involves the vehicle buyer working with authorised dealerships or companies that are participating in the MOVES programme. These intermediaries prepare and submit the application on behalf of the buyer after the vehicle purchase is completed. The grant is paid after the purchase and approval process, meaning buyers pay upfront and receive the subsidy later directly into their bank accounts
– These grants cover all eligible vehicle purchases made during 2025. Maximum aid includes up to €9,000 for electric vans, €7,000 for electric or plug-in hybrid cars, €1,300 for electric motorcycles, and 70% of the cost for charging points. Additionally, buyers may benefit from a 15% personal income tax deduction capped at €3,000, compatible with the direct subsidies. The AEA is preparing its systems to ensure a smooth and timely application process starting mid-July. MALAGA PROVINCE

Malaga leaves behind the hottest June since records began: {Translation, summary}
– June 2025 was the warmest June on record in Málaga province since 1961, with an average temperature of 25.4°C, 3.3 degrees above normal, surpassing the previous record from 2017 by 0.7 degrees. Málaga city also experienced its hottest June since 1943, with an average maximum of 31.1°C, minimum of 21.2°C, and an absolute average of 26.2°C, 2.6 degrees above the 1991–2020 average.
– The heat was driven by warm African air masses and persistent easterly winds, causing unusually high night temperatures, with 24 nights recording tropical minima above 20°C. Sea temperatures were exceptionally high, reaching 26°C at Málaga’s buoy, contributing to the heat.
– Despite intense warmth, Málaga and Almería avoided official heatwave warnings and severe storms affecting other Andalusian areas. July is forecast to be warmer than normal, with temperatures stabilising around 30°C on the coast but cooling expected inland. TORROX

Torrox reinforces the control of pests with specific treatments against mosquitoes and insects: {Translation, summary}
– The Torrox Town Council, through the Department of the Environment, has intensified pest control efforts in the municipality in order to reduce the proliferation of mosquitoes and insects during the months of highest risk, and to minimise the possible effects on public health.
– The treatments being applied combine effectiveness with environmental respect, using products authorised by the Ministry of Health and suitable for urban and natural environments. Specifically, two highly effective solutions are being employed:
AQUABAC® 200G is a biological larvicide designed to act on stagnant water sources, such as ponds or reservoirs, where mosquito larvae develop. This treatment effectively eliminates the larvae without disturbing the ecosystem or affecting other aquatic species or animals.
DIPTRON® with Etofenprox is an insecticide with immediate and prolonged action, especially suitable for controlling adult mosquitoes, cockroaches, and other insects. It can be applied in public spaces, indoors, and in sewer systems, and has the advantage of being odourless and non-irritating, making it safe for use in urban settings.
– The Town Council has emphasised that these works are being carried out in a planned manner in different areas of the municipality, following technical criteria and prioritising zones with the greatest presence of potential breeding sites. These efforts are fundamental and open avenues for controlling mosquitoes and insects, as well as preventing the West Nile Virus. In this latter case, the Department of the Environment has developed a Municipal Plan aimed at minimising the impact of infections caused by West Nile fever. Through this, the Council establishes an integrated surveillance system that facilitates prevention, early detection, and control of cases in humans, primarily. Arrested for intimidating and threatening a Torrox neighbour for ten years, 8 other victims identified: {Translation}
– The Civil Guard, as part of Operation “Harassmentor,” has arrested an individual for making abusive calls and sending death threats over a period of more than ten years to a resident of the Axarquía region. The investigation began after receiving a complaint from a person living in the town of Torrox, who stated that they had been receiving threats and insults on their telephone since 2015, without knowing the identity of the caller. Furthermore, despite having changed their phone number several times, they continued to receive calls and messages on the new numbers.
– The perpetrator distorted their voice and simulated accents to avoid identification, as well as using prepaid phone cards registered under false identities, which were periodically replaced with new ones. With these, the victim was subjected to continuous harassment twenty-four hours a day. During the investigation, more than thirty telephone lines used to commit the offences were analysed, and eight other victims were identified who had also been suffering telephone harassment for several months.
– Following the enquiries, the alleged perpetrator was identified as a man residing in Málaga city and was arrested for the continuous offences of harassment, threats, and identity theft. The investigators established that the harassment of the victims was always preceded by some form of trivial dispute or quarrel between them, which triggered the harassment.
– The detainee was placed at the disposal of the Court of First Instance and Instruction on duty in Torrox. The investigation was carried out by the Judicial Police Team of the Civil Guard at the Nerja Main Post. ALCAUCÍN

Family Attacked At Their Rural Home: {Translation}
– A violent assault has shaken the rural hamlet of El Espino, in the municipality of Alcaucín, where a middle-aged man of North African origin has been arrested after attacking a resident couple with a pickaxe, causing them serious injuries.
– According to Eugenio Cabezas in Diario SUR, the attack took place at approximately 7:30 in the morning last Wednesday. The assailant, who had been seen hours earlier searching vehicles in the area, entered the property and, without saying a word, attacked the 56-year-old man as he came outside to see what was happening. Hearing the screams, his 57-year-old wife was also brutally assaulted.
– The man was airlifted by helicopter to the Regional Hospital of Málaga due to the severity of his head injuries, while his wife was taken by ambulance to the Comarcal Hospital of the Axarquía. Their 30-year-old daughter required medical attention for a severe anxiety attack after witnessing the assault.
– The Civil Guard, who arrested the suspect hours after the incident, continue to investigate in order to clarify the motive behind the attack. The village, with barely 2,700 inhabitants, remains shocked by the violence of the event. Image for illustrative purposes only, not a photo of the attacker. ALHAURÍN

Alhaurín and Churriana report postal system collapse: {Translation, summary}
– CCOO-Correos has reported a severe backlog at postal centres in Alhaurín de la Torre and Churriana, with over 25,000 letters, 5,000 overdue notifications, and 600 parcels undelivered.
– The union blames drastic staff cuts by the public postal company, resulting in less than 60 per cent of required personnel working. A unilateral removal of five morning shift posts last August worsened the situation, forcing workers to cover multiple areas and increasing physical and psychological health risks.
– Service delays are affecting the public, with important documents such as medical appointments and social security notices arriving late or not at all. Some areas have gone over 30 days without mail delivery, far exceeding the three-day limit. CCOO calls for immediate recruitment to restore efficient service and safeguard workers’ wellbeing. The event includes a craft market with 40+ stalls, food offerings, and a wishing tree, inviting residents and visitors to enjoy the town’s charm.
– Concerts at the Miguel González Berral auditorium form the festival’s musical core: a Pink Floyd tribute by IM-Pulse on 4th July; Bernáldez Latin Jazz Orchestra’s Caribbean-themed show ‘A Night in Havana’ on 5th July; and a Bee Gees tribute on 6th July. The Regional Government extends the deadline for companies to submit bids for the tender for Malaga’s third hospital, not expected to open until 2032: {Translation, summary}
– The Andalusian Regional Government has granted an additional ten days to companies interested in submitting their bids for the third hospital in Málaga. The regional administration has extended the deadline for receiving proposals from 22 July to 1 August.
– The justification given is the receipt of numerous enquiries, which have been answered by the manager of the Andalusian Health Service. They also cite the complexity of the file.
– The project has a total budget of 607,515,932.53 euros plus VAT, amounting to more than 800 million euros. The execution period is just over six years (75 months). According to the announcement, the work will be financed 85 per cent by European funds (ERDF).
– The new Regional Hospital will cover 246,000 square metres, with 815 rooms, 48 operating theatres and 200 consultation rooms.
