SPAIN

The Teflon Don- Sanchez dodges responsibility in any of the current corruption investigations, instead proposes a slew of new regulations- These are the 15 anti-corruption measures proposed by Sánchez in Congress without any mention of how they will be funded: {Translation, summary}
– Pedro Sánchez, the Prime Minister, presented a comprehensive fifteen-point State Plan against corruption before the Congress, aiming to revitalise government action after the ‘Cerdán case’, and secure support from uneasy coalition partners. The plan, developed with the OECD’s Anti-Corruption Department and civil society experts, is structured around five key pillars.
– The first pillar focuses on prevention and control: (1) establishing an independent Public Integrity Agency to oversee anti-corruption efforts; (2) extending the Next Generation Funds’ risk methodology across the Administration; (3) applying Artificial Intelligence to detect fraud in public procurement; (4) requiring anti-corruption compliance systems in companies contracting with the state and integrity pacts for certain contracts; (5) strengthening transparency through a new Open Administration Law, including asset checks for senior officials; and (6) tightening controls on political parties by mandating external audits, lowering donation transparency thresholds, and approving a law on interest group integrity.
– The second pillar (7) guarantees protection for whistleblowers by ensuring confidentiality, legal support, and mandatory internal reporting channels in companies and public bodies.
– The third pillar enhances judicial capacity: (8) creating specialised courts for public administration crimes; (9) reinforcing the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and reforming criminal investigation; (10) toughening penalties and increasing fines based on company revenues; (11) introducing blacklists to exclude corrupt companies from public contracts; and (12) imposing harsher sanctions on political parties that harbour convicted individuals.
– The fourth pillar (13) improves asset recovery by increasing resources for the Asset Recovery Office and (14) enabling administrative confiscation of illicit assets without prior conviction.
– The fifth pillar (15) fosters a culture of integrity through annual corruption perception surveys, public awareness campaigns, and enhanced training for public employees.
– Sánchez emphasised his commitment to transparency and accountability, with OECD-monitored public reports ensuring full implementation. Source, Spanish: https://www.diariosur.es/nacional/medidas-anticorrupcion-propuestas-sanchez-congreso-20250709101845-ntrc.html

The judges’ associations have described Sánchez’s anti-corruption plan as mere “cosmetic reform”: {Translation, summary}
– The main judicial associations have harshly criticised the anti-corruption plan announced this Wednesday by the Government, accusing it of being a mere exercise in the “cosmetic reforms” that fails to seriously address the structural problems of the system.
– From the Professional Association of the Judiciary (APM) and the Francisco de Vitoria Judicial Association (AJFV) to the Independent Judicial Forum (FJI), the assessments concur in highlighting the absence of political will and insufficient resources to effectively combat corruption.
– The president of the APM, Mary Jesus Boat, emphasised that the plan lacks real impact unless material and human resources are provided to judges, law enforcement, and penalty enforcement mechanisms. She recalled that toughening the Criminal Code is pointless if pardons or amnesties are granted to the convicted, as occurred with those responsible for the ‘procés’. She also denounced the Government’s reform of embezzlement laws, which reduced penalties to favour convicted and future offenders. Moreover, she lamented the public questioning and attacks on judges investigating cases involving politicians, instead of supporting them with resources and institutional respect.
– The AJFV spokesperson, Sergio Oliva, warned that many measures in the plan already exist in law or are merely repetitive, such as the whistleblower protection and the disqualification of corrupt companies. He said, “I have noted that no budget has been allocated to implement the plan, rendering it ineffective. I particularly criticised the proposal to create a Public Integrity Agency when competent bodies already exist. In his view, the problem is not the lack of structures but the absence of genuine independence for existing ones. I have found it especially troubling that a criminal investigation is to be entrusted to a Prosecutor’s Office vulnerable to executive interference, which could undermine the credibility of political corruption inquiries.”
– Fernando Portillo, spokesperson for the FJI, was unequivocal in stating that the proposal lacks credibility coming from a Government that has been in power for seven years and is, in his words, “surrounded by corruption scandals.” “I have questioned the creation of new bodies without clear powers and the subordination of criminal investigations to a Prosecutor’s Office hierarchically dependent on the Attorney General, appointed by the Government itself. I have argued that the only effective measure would be to strengthen judicial independence with sufficient resources and properly equip investigative bodies. I have stressed that the tools already exist; what is lacking is their effective application and institutional backing.”

ANDALUCÍA

Outrageous increases in tobacco taxes result in predictable black market surge, almost half a million packs found in latest raid: {Translation, summary}
– The Civil Guard, in collaboration with the Customs Surveillance of the Tax Agency, has proceeded to dismantle a criminal organisation for the distribution of smuggled counterfeit tobacco in Andalusia.
– The investigation ends with the arrest of seven people charged with crimes of tobacco smuggling, crimes of belonging to a criminal organization and crimes against intellectual property, likewise in the different searches carried out a “nursery” used by the organization in an industrial estate in the province of Seville, where 405,500 packs of counterfeit cigarettes of different commercial brands have been seized, lacking the mandatory tax seals with a market value of more than 2,380,000 euros. NERJA

Nerja informs the owners of boats of Burriana on the prohibition of nautical activities without authorization: {Translation}
-The councillors for Beaches, María del Carmen López, and for Agriculture and Fisheries, Daniel Rivas, have held a meeting with the owners of the vessels moored at Burriana Beach to inform them about the resolution issued by the Maritime Captaincy of Málaga, under the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, concerning the prohibition of nautical activities without the requisite authorisations.
– This prohibition is based on a complaint made by the Territorial Delegation for Sustainability and Environment of the Junta of Andalusia, which cites the unauthorised occupation of the maritime-terrestrial public domain by the said vessels.
– In this regard, María del Carmen López conveyed to the fishermen the position of the Nerja Town Council, informing them that it is recorded that the Maritime Captaincy has issued this prohibition regarding activities such as the launching, casting off, or beaching of vessels or floating devices, including jet skis, until the appropriate permits are obtained from the competent authorities.
– Meanwhile, Daniel Rivas clarified that this situation does not stem from a municipal decision but from a procedure initiated by the competent administration. Nevertheless, the owners have been requested to submit documentation proving the use and activity of these vessels. – The Andalusian Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs has fined Yelmo Cinemas 25,000 euros for barring entry to customers carrying food and drink bought outside its cinemas in Roquetas de Mar and Almería.
– The ban on outside food and drink, while permitting consumption of items bought inside, in a business where the prime function is presenting movies, nor catering, was judged a violation of consumer rights and an abusive practice under Andalusian law. UKRAINE WAR

NATO jets scrambled as Putin launches largest drone attack yet:
– NATO jets were scrambled early Wednesday as Russia launched a record attack on Ukraine overnight — just hours after President Trump ripped Russian President Vladimir Putin for his “bulls–t.”
– Moscow fired 728 Shahed and decoy drones along with 13 cruise and ballistic missiles, the Ukrainian air force said Wednesday. That was more than 200 above the previous record fired on Friday, July Fourth — itself just a week after the previous largest air assault.
– The Russian Defence Ministry said its forces took aim at enemy air bases and that “all the designated targets have been hit.” However, Ukraine claimed it downed almost all of the drones, with only some of the hypersonic missiles getting through and hitting targets, the air force said, without detailing the damage caused. The city of Lutsk, home to key military airfields, was the hardest hit, though 10 other regions were also struck, Ukraine said.
– At least one strike was around 100 miles from Ukraine’s border with Poland, which launched military jets along with “allied aviation” from other NATO nations. “In accordance with applicable procedures, all available forces and resources at the disposal of the Operational Commander of the Polish Armed Forces have been activated, duty fighter pairs have been scrambled, and ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems have reached the highest state of readiness,” Poland’s military wrote on X.
– The major escalation came a day after Trump ripped Putin while threatening tougher new sanctions on Russia, including 500% tariffs on countries that buy its oil, gas, uranium and other exports. “We get a lot of bulls–t thrown at us by Putin,” said Trump, who also pledged more weapons to support Ukraine. “He’s very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless,” the president told a cabinet meeting. No Justice or Accountability in the US UniParty- Investigative Journalist Explains Why Epstein Case Will Never Progress:
– Journalist Nick Bryant notes in this viral clip from the Shawn Ryan podcast that the Jeffrey Epstein case is being covered up by the federal government and will never progress because it would destroy their entire operational system.
– Journalist Nick Bryant explains why the federal government actively covers up the Jeffrey Epstein case:
“Epstein had cameras in all of his homes. Epstein was definitely a blackmail artist.”
“The government wants to make sure that that does not come out. A huge part of our political system is predicated on blackmail.”
“If that dark, malignant corner of the intelligence that is using blackmail against our politicians and other people, if they were using children, that would make the American people erupt.”
“For that dark corner of intelligence, this is Omaha Beach. They’re not going to give an inch.”
“If you look at all the victims and all the perpetrators and all the procurers involved in the Epstein network … no one’s been indicted except for Ghislaine Maxwell.”
“That really shows that our government, unfortunately, wants to stop it there.”
“Why is our government aiding, abetting child trafficking unless they’re protecting some very powerful people and a political process?”
“That’s the only way that it makes sense.”

Biden doctor Kevin O’Connor invokes Fifth Amendment when asked about Biden’s health:
– Joe Biden’s former doctor refused to answer a single question Wednesday about the ex-president’s health and cognitive decline — stunningly invoking his right against self-incrimination before slinking out of a congressional deposition. Dr. Kevin O’Connor is facing claims that he shielded the public from Biden’s decline while the 46th president was in office — and even covered up his powerful patient’s advanced-stage prostate cancer.
– According to House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.), O’Connor, Biden’s longtime personal physician, was asked two key questions:
“Were you ever told to lie about the president’s health?”
“Did you ever believe President Biden was unfit to execute his duties?”
In both instances, O’Connor took the Fifth.
– The only question the doctor answered before the deposition concluded was confirming his name, according to an Oversight spokesperson, who pointed out that doctor-patient privilege would have allowed the witness to answer at least some questions.
– “This is unprecedented, and I think that this adds more fuel to the fire that there was a cover-up,” Comer declared.

NEW LIFE CHURCH

New Life Church:
– Sunday Service:
Whether you live in Nerja or are visiting our area, you are very welcome to come and join us on Sundays at 11.00am. Join us for a time of Holy Spirit led worship and experience the presence of our God. Our teaching is Bible based as we honour God and obey His Word. – Prayer Meeting:
You are also welcome to join our prayer meetings on Wednesday mornings at 11.00am for 1 hour, where we meet for prayer and worship.
