– The maximum retail price of butane gas cylinders will fall by 5% from Tuesday, to €17.11, thus halting the upward trend that had led to five consecutive increases since September last year, according to a resolution published in the Official State Gazette (BOE). TORRE DEL MAR

Disappointing final numbers from Weekend Beach Festival in Torre del Mar: {DigameXtra}
– The final tallies for the Weekend Beach Festival in Torre del Mar this past weekend, only 90,000 visits over 3 days, and only an estimated €12 million economic impact, are considered disappointing, largely due to the relatively weak lineup of acts this year. Compared to previous editions, which featured more prominent and widely popular artists, this year’s selection failed to generate the same level of excitement and draw among potential attendees.
– While 90,000 visitors is still a significant number, it represents a notable decline from past years when the festival attracted over 150,000 people.
– This drop in visitor numbers also translated into a reduced economic impact for the local area. The festival’s estimated €12 million contribution to the economy, although substantial, fell short of earlier projections and previous years’ figures. Local businesses and organisers had hoped for a stronger turnout, which typically boosts spending on accommodation, food, transport, and other services.

MURCIA

The Civil Guard points to the lack of agents and the second generation “maghrebi” as a source of conflict in Torre Pacheco: {Translation, summary}
– The shortage of police personnel to guarantee public safety lies behind the disturbances that have set the streets of Torre Pacheco alight for the past three days, according to complaints from the Guardia Civil. “We speak of a town of 45,000 inhabitants where, due to various circumstances, the police station lacks a sufficient number of officers to maintain security. The shortage of personnel is particularly notable and has caused crime to rise for some time,” sources from the Murcia Command told this newspaper.
– Although the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska {known for his weak grasp on reality} highlighted on Monday that the response of the security forces “has been immediate”, the Murcia Command criticises the slowness in sending reinforcements to contain the riots that began last Friday and have continued throughout the weekend.
– “They have taken too long to respond because the reinforcements arrived very late,” the sources affirm. “It was not until this Monday that the two GRS platoons (36 officers in total) sent for crowd control began work, when they should have been operational on Saturday or, at the latest, Sunday. Tomorrow we expect the arrival of two more GRS platoons, but they will come when the situation has somewhat calmed, as the worst has passed, although some skirmishes may still occur.”
– “There will be a significant increase in Civil Guard presence in the coming days, with many checks and identifications to prevent further clashes,” the sources add, not ruling out further arrests. So far, nine have been detained since Friday: two Moroccans and seven Spaniards, though four of the latter are also of Maghrebi origin.
***”They do not integrate nor wish to integrate”***
– Precisely those Spaniards of Maghrebi origin, that is, children of immigrants born in Spain, represent a very troublesome profile in Torre Pacheco, on whom the Guardia Civil places particular emphasis: “It is not a matter of racism but of reality, because nine out of ten violent crimes committed in the town are by the same profile of offender: second-generation Moroccan or Algerian immigrants. They are young people, some minors, born in Spain but who neither feel nor wish to feel Spanish. They do not integrate nor want to integrate, only socialising among themselves and forming very closed ghettos. While their parents came to work and achieved some degree of integration, this second generation is much more problematic because many neither work nor study and end up offending, with drug dealing, thefts, and robberies.”
– “In Torre Pacheco there are immigrants of many nationalities, and this phenomenon is not seen with any other immigrant profile, not even those from other parts of Africa. Many sub-Saharan immigrants from countries such as Congo show a greater willingness to integrate and work than these second-generation Maghrebis. I could not say why, but that is the sad reality,” they add.
– The sources from the Murcia Command also warn that this offender profile is becoming increasingly violent: “They almost always carry a blade, which may be a knife, a razor, or even a machete. Their violence is escalating, as seen in the assault on the Torre Pacheco resident that was somewhat the trigger for these riots. He was beaten up merely for amusement; they did not even intend to rob him; it was gratuitous violence.”
– Recidivism is another common trait: “They feel immune because the day after their arrest they are back on the street and remain free until trial. People are somewhat weary because they are always causing trouble.” Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/noticia/5731081/0/guardia-civil-falta-policias-magrebies-segunda-generacion-origen-conflicto-torre-pacheco

UKRAINE WAR

In reversal, Trump arms Ukraine, threatens sanctions on countries that buy Russian oil:
– U.S. President Donald Trump announced new weapons for Ukraine on Monday, and threatened to hit buyers of Russian exports with sanctions unless Russia agrees a peace deal in 50 days, a major shift in policy brought on by disappointment with Moscow. Sitting side-by-side with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in the Oval Office, Trump told reporters that he was disappointed in Russian President Vladimir Putin. Billions of dollars in weapons would be distributed to Ukraine, he said.
– “We’re going to make top-of-the-line weapons, and they’ll be sent to NATO,” Trump said, adding that Washington’s NATO allies would pay for the weapons. The weapons would include Patriot air defence missiles, which Ukraine has urgently sought to defend its cities from Russian air strikes.
– His threat to impose so-called secondary sanctions on Russia, if carried out, would be a major shift in Western sanctions policy. Lawmakers from both political parties in the United States are pushing for a bill that would authorise such measures.
– Throughout the more than three-year-old war, Western countries have cut off most of their own financial ties to Moscow, but have held back from taking steps that would restrict Russia from selling its oil elsewhere. That has allowed Moscow to continue earning hundreds of billions of dollars from shipping oil to buyers such as China and India.
– “We’re going to be doing secondary tariffs,” Trump said. “If we don’t have a deal in 50 days, it’s very simple, and they’ll be at 100%.” A White House official said Trump was referring to 100% tariffs on Russian exports as well as secondary sanctions on other countries that buy Russian exports.

SCAMS

Pyramid scheme that defrauded more than €4.6 million with fake real estate investments busted in Málaga: {Translation, summary}
– The National Police in Málaga have dismantled a pyramid scheme fraud that swindled over 4.6 million euros from around fifty victims. The scheme, run through a limited company involved in property investments and financial intermediation, promised investors monthly returns of four per cent or more via mortgage loans and real estate.
– The fraud, dating back to 2021, collapsed in 2023 when payments ceased, and was uncovered in March 2024. Two intermediaries with advanced fiscal and investment knowledge acted as advisers, organising fake meetings to feign legitimacy. The mastermind, a man who hid to evade justice, used his partner as the company’s formal administrator.
– Nine suspects were arrested, facing charges including aggravated fraud, document falsification, misappropriation, and money laundering. Precautionary asset freezes were imposed. Victims include entire families, bank branch managers, and financial professionals, underscoring the scam’s sophistication. The police advise verifying the legality and solvency of investments and caution against offers promising returns far exceeding market norms.
