SPAIN

The government increases the defence budget by 5.5 billion, but it is still far from the 2% of GDP Sanchez promised the EU for the end of the year, and why do they continue holding back the EU Recovery Funds desperately needed in the economy?: {Translation, summary}
– The government’s plan to increase defence spending is beginning to show up in the budget accounts. However, judging by the figures, it is still far from reaching the 2% of GDP spending that the government has committed to achieving by the end of the year. To achieve this, the government has rolled out a plan to increase spending by 10.471 billion before the end of 2025.
– Regulators point out that the traceability of spending is limited, especially when it comes to allocating expenditures to each fiscal year. They consider state provided numbers inaccurate. These figures imply a ‘significant’ increase in disbursements of between three and four tenths of GDP compared to last year. However, this estimate presents, in the words of the Fiscal Authority, ‘a high degree of uncertainty’ because it depends on the final amount of military deliveries.
– In its defence plan, the government itself estimates defence spending in 2024 at 1.43% of GDP and believes that an increase in expenditure of €10.471 billion will be sufficient, figures doubted by analysts. The plan document itself states that the funds will come from savings generated by the economic upturn, the reallocation of unspent European funds from the recovery plan and other reallocations of unspent items.
{Another EU Recovery Funds outrage by Sanchez! How dare he take EU relief funds provided to aid in the society’s recovery from the Covid disaster and redirect them to other, totally unrelated, purposes? And just as bad, why exactly are there “remaining” funds? It’s been 5 years since the pandemic damage, why have these funds not been distributed to all the suffering small businesses that are still struggling to recover yet have not received any aid. While Spain has received about €48.3 billion of RRF resources as of mid-2025, only a fraction has been spent; less than 20% of the grant funding had been used, according to recent updates. The remaining, unspent amounts are thus held in government custody, not yet transferred to final recipients such as businesses, individuals, or local governments. -Ed.}

The Supreme Court backs the judge and accuses Ábalos and Koldo García of trying to ‘cast doubt’ on the investigation: {Translation, summary}
– The Supreme Court’s Criminal Chamber has upheld Judge Leopoldo Puente’s handling of the Koldo case, dismissing appeals by José Luis Ábalos and his former advisor, Koldo García. The Court rejected claims that Puente was conducting a forbidden “prospective investigation,” which seeks potential crimes without a clear target, reaffirming that Puente’s inquiry concerns specific allegations supported by credible testimony from intermediary Víctor de Aldama about rigged public contracts.
– The Court emphasised that investigations need not start with strong proof of criminality, but rather to seek evidence confirming or denying suspicion.
– The Chamber also supported Puente’s refusal to authorise certain investigative measures sought by Ábalos and García, such as summoning senior Interior Ministry officials and certain experts, labelling those requests as pointless, delaying, or irrelevant. The Supreme Court cautioned against tactics aimed merely at casting doubt during this investigative stage, asserting that Puente’s actions are properly focused on concrete facts, not an unfounded search for incriminating evidence. MALAGA PROVINCE

The terral wind will keep Malaga on yellow alert this Monday: {Translation, summary}
– On Monday, the province of Málaga will experience high temperatures, with a yellow warning in place everywhere except in the Axarquía, where no alert has been issued. This means that while much of Málaga, including the capital, the Costa del Sol, and the Guadalhorce Valley, will endure daytime highs reaching around 36 degrees Celsius due to the persistent terral wind, the Axarquía will be comparatively spared from this heat alert.
– On Sunday, the hottest place in the province was Coín with 39.5 degrees Celsius, and Málaga city also recorded temperatures near 39 degrees Celsius. The sea temperature along the Málaga coast stands steady between 17.8 and 18.5 degrees Celsius.
– The Axarquía’s exemption from the heat warning suggests milder conditions relative to the surrounding areas. Meanwhile, the forecast points to generally stable weather, with warm, but not extreme, temperatures extending through Málaga province. Source, Spanish: https://www.diariosur.es/malaga/terral-mantiene-aviso-amarillo-malaga-lunes-20250720203920-nt.html

{I felt the terral arrive in Torrox Costa: I was standing in my doorway at 12:30am enjoying the cool breeze. In an instant the direction of the wind changes from this weekend’s mild Atlantic source; this new wind felt like a hot blast from directly above! Five minutes later the wind again changed, still hot, but now coming from the Sahara direction. I put this in the same category as seeing it rain on one side of the street but not the other. Seen that one a few times in TC & Nerja. -Ed.}

VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA

One person killed after collision between car and motorbike on the N-340 in Vélez-Málaga: {Translation, summary}
– A 30-year-old man has died in a traffic accident early this morning in the municipality of Vélez-Málaga. According to a statement issued by 112, the accident took place at around 3.15 a.m. at kilometre 268 of the N-340 road. Several reports were received alerting that a car and a motorcycle had collided and that there was a seriously injured person on the road. The coordination centre then activated the 061 Health Emergency Centre, which mobilised a mobile intensive care unit, the Traffic Civil Guard, Road Maintenance and the Local Police.
– Paramedics confirmed the death of a 30-year-old man at the scene of the accident. During the intervention of the emergency services, the N-340 remained closed to traffic. IZNATE

Iznate reports that it has been without doctors at the health centre for four days: {Translation, summary}
– PSOE provincial deputy Isabel Ruiz and Iznate mayor Gregorio Campos have raised concerns about the absence of a doctor at the health centre in the Axarquía municipality. ‘The residents of Iznate have been without a doctor at the health centre for no less than four days. It is completely incomprehensible. We do not understand this lack of sensitivity on the part of the Popular Party when it comes to healthcare,’ said Isabel Ruiz. ‘We are at a critical juncture. The Moreno Bonilla government, led by the Popular Party, is bringing public health to a state of total collapse,’ said the provincial deputy.
– “Let’s not fool ourselves. This is not a lack of resources, it is not a lack of means on the part of the central government, but rather an ideological model that is becoming more entrenched every year and is leading to the total and absolute destruction of Andalusia’s public healthcare model,‘ she said. ’Here, those who can afford it have private healthcare,” she added.
– Ruiz criticised the summer plan approved by the Regional Government. ‘There are fewer doctors, fewer health centres open in the afternoons and an increase of up to almost 12 days on average in the time it takes to see a GP at your health centre,’ she said. GOP Erupts After Gabbard Exposes Obama Admin’s ‘Treasonous’ Intel Plot Framing Trump: ‘Makes Watergate Look Like Amateur Hour’:
– Republican lawmakers delivered a thunderous response following Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard’s explosive declassification of documents proving the Obama administration deliberately manufactured intelligence to create the false Trump-Russia collusion narrative, with revelations that expose what one Republican described as a disinformation campaign against the American people that “makes Watergate look like amateur hour.”
– The declassified documents reveal that a December 8, 2016 Presidential Daily Brief stated that Russian actors “did not impact recent US election results by conducting malicious cyber activities against election infrastructure,” but Obama administration officials suppressed this assessment and ordered intelligence agencies to create a new narrative that “directly contradicted” their original findings. The bombshell revelations prompted an immediate and furious response from Republican leaders on Friday.
– House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) framed the document release as vindication of long-standing conservative suspicions about deep state corruption and called for immediate accountability.
– Representative Tom Tiffany (R-WI) delivered perhaps the most comprehensive indictment of the conspiracy, systematically naming key figures across the Obama administration while detailing each player’s role in manufacturing and promoting the Russia collusion hoax. “Joe Biden and Barack Obama knew about it. Hillary Clinton fabricated it. The FBI orchestrated it. And the mainstream media sold it,” Tiffany wrote. “Trump-Russia collusion was all a made-up HOAX. We NEED accountability,” he added.

GASTRONOMIA

Tired of awful cheesecake? Chain offering more than 20 varieties opens new outlet in Malaga shopping centre:
– The popular La Cheesequería chain offering a variety of cheesecakes had a humble beginning on Avenida del Mayorazgo, where it opened its first establishment in the middle of the pandemic. Four years later, it has four establishments in Malaga and Granada. The intention is to keep growing and the latest opening in the Plaza Mayor shopping centre on the outskirts of Malaga city is one more step on the ladder.
– The other three outlets in Malaga are located in the city centre (Calle Carretería, 44), Teatinos (Avenida Plutarco, 83) and El Palo (Avenida Pío Baroja, 6). The newest addition is a kiosk, which you can find right next to the MediaMarkt on the shopping centre premises.
– It opened on Wednesday, 16 July. During the inauguration, the Malaga chain gave out 500 free slices of cheesecake. The cake of the month is the lemon biscuit one, so make sure you visit the kiosk and try it. Every month, the Cheesequería launches a new flavour, despite already having a menu of more than 20 varieties. In addition to cheesecakes, you can buy cookies, specialty coffee, granita and leche merengada. Withdrawal of two hair straightening products: {Translation, summary}
– Specifically, these are the products ‘Happy Anne #Superalisado KIT Alisado Brasileño’ and ‘Kativa. Kit Alisado Brasileño’, marketed by the company Cosmetrade, S.L., based in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz). The alert affects all batches.
– According to the OCU, following a safety assessment, the safe use of these straightening products cannot be guaranteed because they do not comply with the applicable regulations, Regulation (EC) 1223/2009. For this reason, the Aemps has ordered the cessation of their marketing and the withdrawal from the market of all units distributed.

TRAVEL

Up to 4,000 euro fine for overloading the car with more luggage than allowed: {Translation, summary}
– During this summer, many Spaniards will travel by car to their holiday destinations, often loading substantial luggage into their vehicles. However, cars have a Maximum Authorised Mass, which includes the vehicle’s own weight plus cargo and passengers, and this limit must not be exceeded.
– The Traffic Civil Guard carries out weight checks using scales, comparing the actual load to the specified maximum in the vehicle’s technical document. Drivers found exceeding the limit face fines ranging from three hundred euros for minor excesses to up to four thousand euros if the load exceeds the limit by more than twenty-five per cent. It is thus crucial to verify the total weight before travel, especially in summer, to ensure vehicle safety and avoid costly penalties that could mar the start of the holiday season.
– Passenger vehicles must not exceed 3,500 kilograms (or 4,250 kilograms for certain motorhomes and electric cars), while trucks and trailers face limits that vary by number of axles and other technical conditions, with a maximum of around 40 tonnes for large articulated vehicles.

CANCEL CULTURE / #MeToo

Commie Cancel Culture Crash: {Translation, summary}
– Former politician communist Íñigo Errejón’s defence has formally requested a conciliation meeting with actress Elisa Mouliaá, prior to initiating legal proceedings for slander. Errejón demands that Mouliaá retract her accusations that he extorted a witness involved in the investigation of his alleged sexual assault, and seeks €10,000 in compensation for damages.
– Recently released audio recordings reveal it was Mouliaá pressuring a witness not to disclose information detrimental to her in court. In response, Mouliaá accused Errejón of extortion via social media. However, Errejón’s defence highlights that the witness denied ever speaking to him, and another witness confirmed he reached out to Errejón in support after Mouliaá’s contested complaint. Errejón’s legal representative firmly denies any witness intimidation and urges Mouliaá to recognise the facts, withdraw defamatory statements, abstain from further similar claims, and compensate Errejón before any criminal suit is filed. – Alcazaba Fortaleza Park, Vélez-Málaga – A historic fortress area providing pleasant walking paths suitable for dogs on leads within culture-rich surroundings.
– Parque María Zambrano, Vélez-Málaga – Spacious park with walking circuits and grass areas, frequented by families and pet owners alike.
– Dog friendly nudist beach? Playas Naturistas near Algarrobo Costa is what you seek. These naturist areas are often dog friendly, though local rules vary so consultation of current municipal guidelines is advised. Check local notices for dog policies on beaches.
– Note: Parks & beaches may have seasonal hours and leash regulations. Always check local signage on arrival, and consider checking municipal websites before visiting to avoid disappointment. {I have found many municipal websites have not been recently updated, some even look abandoned, apparently these are immune to the “digitalization” the Junta says it has heavily invested in! Wonder where all that free EU money goes? Me too. -Ed.}. Some beaches restrict dog access to winter months only. Don’t assume it is ok just because you see others doing it. Ask before taking dogs inside park or beach bars/cafes or onto terraces.
