The Spanish Governments, National & Regional, Are Full of Frauds- Officers On Both Sides Left & Right Present False Credentials: {Translation, summary & rewrite of 2 combined articles}
– The accusation of inflating curricula affects politicians across the Spanish political spectrum, often met with denial, partial excuses, and occasional apologies, but rarely with resignations. This week Noelia Núñez (conservative PP), a rising star under Isabel Díaz Ayuso, resigned after admitting to false academic claims across several official sites, apologising but acknowledging that was insufficient.
– Among early and prominent cases are Luis Roldán (Socialist PSOE), who fabricated multiple degrees; Cristina Cifuentes (conservative PP), who falsified master’s notes and resigned amid scandal; Pablo Casado (conservative PP), who completed his law degree under dubious circumstances, earned a master’s without attending or merit, and falsely claimed a Harvard postgraduate course; Carmen Montón (Socialist PSOE), who resigned after plagiarising her master’s thesis; Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla (conservative PP), whose CV mysteriously lost a business degree; Tomás Burgos (conservative PP), who claimed an unearned medical degree; and José Manuel Franco (Socialist PSOE), who falsely claimed a mathematics degree and teaching credentials.
– Additional Socialists with inflated qualifications include Pedro Sánchez, who inflated his credentials and concealed his doctorate thesis later documented to be partially plagiarised; Pilar Bernabé, who claimed two unearned licentiates; Cristina Narbona, who asserted doctorateness without qualification; Patxi López, who falsely claimed engineering; Pepe Blanco, who presented an incomplete law degree as finished; Elena Valenciano, who listed two unfinished degrees; Leire Pajín, who claimed unverified university representation; Alfonso Gil, who claimed an unearned law degree; Bernat Soria, who lied about academic posts; Carme Chacón, who misrepresented doctoral studies; Bibiana Aído, whose rapid completion of two degrees raised doubts; Óscar Puente, who misrepresented a political leadership course as a master’s; Isabel Ambrosio, who falsely claimed a teaching degree; Antonio Quintana, who claimed topography qualifications without proper degrees; José Montilla, who faked law and economics degrees; Ximo Puig, who claimed an uncompleted journalism degree; and Mamen Sánchez, who asserted a nonexistent tourism diploma.
– Luis Roldán (Socialist PSOE) never completed secondary education yet fabricated engineering and economic qualifications. Ana Belén Fernández Casero (Socialist PSOE) falsely claimed a diploma in Labour Relations.
– Only Montón and Cifuentes resigned over their cases; most others retained their positions despite exposure. Sociologist Sergio García Magariño attributes this phenomenon to a culture where image and social media recognition eclipse truth, fueled by expanding formal education that dilutes degree value.
– Unlike other countries, where plagiarising politicians resign, such academic inflation in Spain faces comparatively little social sanction, reflecting a broader societal tolerance for falsified political curricula.

Tourism Troubles- Spain Is Just Too Darn Expensive These Days- Vox calls on the Gov’t to do something with tourism because summering in Spain now costs as much as going to the Caribbean: {Translation, summary, last paragraph from other source}
– Vox (conservative right) has criticised the high cost of an average holiday in Spain, claiming it is now comparable to staying in five-star hotels in the Caribbean or Morocco {…where locals often speak English AND French, rather than forcing tourists to struggle with one of the many Spanish dialects favoured by locals along Spain’s coasts}.
– The party is urging the Government to grant fiscal relief and intensify promotion to revive domestic tourism and local commerce, both affected by inflation and recent economic policies. Many Spaniards are unable to afford rising accommodation costs, which forces them to shorten holidays or travel abroad. Vox further warns that this decline in national tourism undermines the sense of national belonging and limits citizens’ access to leisure, culture, and the nation’s own natural heritage.
– Vox highlights that local commerce, responsible for 5% of GDP, has lost 120,000 jobs since 2016, with nearly 9,000 businesses closing each year, attributing this erosion to tax increases and regulatory burdens. The party proposes a national tourism plan including:
*Fiscal incentives to establishments offering discounts to Spaniards, especially young people and large families.
*Enhanced promotion of Spain’s cultural, natural, and gastronomic richness.
*Social tourism programmes for the over-sixties.
*Support for local commerce, encouragement for consumption of national products, regulatory simplification, and local product and festival promotion to revive regional economies.
~Impact of Delayed EU Recovery Funds~
– Compounding these difficulties, tourism’s recovery is being held back in part because only about 32% of EU Recovery and Resilience Facility funds have been distributed halfway through the allotted period, leaving nearly 70% undisbursed. This significant underutilisation of funds has limited the capacity of many sectors, including tourism, to fully rebound from recent crises. Delays make it harder to implement vital projects and investments intended to support and modernise tourism infrastructure and services, further weakening the sector’s growth and competitiveness.

ANDALUCÍA

Health Crisis- Doctors do not want to work in Andalucia after completing their residencies here- The SAS only covers 22% of permanent positions for MIRs in Andalucia.: {Translation, summary}
– The Andalucian Health Service (SAS) has filled only 181 out of 837 extraordinary posts offered to newly specialised Medical Interns (MIR), representing merely 22 per cent of available positions. According to official figures from the Andalucian Health Ministry, 90 places were filled by area specialists, 84 by family medicine doctors, and just seven by paediatricians.
– Authorities acknowledge a persistent reluctance among residents to accept posts in certain locations, describing it as a social trend that also affects other professions and requires comprehensive institutional collaboration. Despite government efforts to stabilise employment and expand healthcare staff, most vacancies remain unfilled. Some sources suggest the low wages with a disproportionately high cost-of-living in Andalucia are not competitive; they can work elsewhere in more modern facilities with far better management, at a higher wage, with a similar or even lower cost-of-living.
– Coverage varies widely by specialty, with full occupancy in nine specialties such as clinical analysis and neurophysiology, but over three quarters of posts remain vacant overall. Family medicine coverage differs regionally, with some areas, like southern Seville, reaching 86%. The selection process to offer graduates local positions was based on weighted evaluations and MIR exam scores.
– SAS remains cautiously optimistic about final retention, noting 2024’s initial retention rate exceeded 70%, although some were lost thereafter. The difficulty in filling positions, especially in rural areas, is a structural issue influenced by work conditions and professional prospects they claim. They must now deal with the fact that Andalucia is failing in its strategic planning to ensure adequate healthcare throughout Andalusia. Weather in Malaga this weekend: {Translation, summary}
– Málaga began the week under a yellow warning due to high temperatures and the terral wind. USA

Trump signs executive order forcing homeless off America’s streets:
– President Trump signed an executive order Thursday calling on states and cities to end “endemic vagrancy” — and rehouse homeless people including drug addicts and those suffering from mental problems in “treatment centers.”
– The order redirects federal funding to prioritize “shifting homeless individuals into long-term institutional settings for humane treatment through the appropriate use of civil commitment.”
– “The overwhelming majority of these individuals are addicted to drugs, have a mental health disorder, or both,” the document says. On average, more than 274,000 people were sleeping on the streets each night last year under then-President Joe Biden it claims.
– It was not immediately clear how much funding would be steered toward the new initiative, or whether there would be a parallel effort to reopen long-shuttered institutions as a public safety strategy. The order identifies “assisted outpatient treatment” as an option in addition to “institutional treatment.” States and municipalities that already crackdown on open illicit drug use and urban camping, loitering or squatting, and tracking sex offenders, will be prioritized for grants. “President Trump is delivering on his commitment to Make America Safe Again and end homelessness across America,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.
– The Supreme Court ruled last year in a 6-3 decision that localities have a right to impose fines on homeless people who camp without permission on public property. Full article: https://nypost.com/2025/07/24/us-news/trump-to-sign-executive-order-forcing-homeless-off-americas-streets/

HEALTH

Andalusia already has cases of Covid with the new variant- no greater severity: {Translation, summary}
– The Andalusian Health Service has identified cases of a new Covid 19 variant, XFG, in Andalusia. While this variant shows a selective advantage against prior immunity, its mutations are not associated with increased clinical severity. Despite a recent rise in Covid incidence in both primary care and hospitals, current figures remain low compared to the previous year’s epidemic wave.
– The XFG variant, a BA.2.75 plus JN.1 recombination, shares a similar mutational profile with other circulating lineages. In mid July 2025, Andalusia’s Covid rate was 25.2 cases per 100,000, displaying an endemic pattern without an epidemic surge. The World Health Organisation recently highlighted a global increase in Covid 19 cases due to a new variant, now under surveillance, but considers the public health risk to be low. El Puente Christian Fellowship (Vélez-Málaga): We are a friendly, multi-national, Bible believing community of Christ. We meet each Sunday at 11am to worship the Lord. We enjoy a time of worship with contemporary songs and traditional hymns, and a message brought to us by our Pastor, one of our members or a visiting speaker.
The church meeting hall is situated at: Res: El Olivar 5, 8 Bajo 1, Calle Arbequin, Velez Malaga 29700.
Full directions and further information can be found on our Facebook page, or you can contact us by email on elpuentechristianfellowship@gmail.com or by phone on 665626342.
For those who cannot join us in person, we aim to stream Sunday services via the Facebook page (subject to a good internet connection).

People of old Ireland in rare photographs: 1885-1925 Video Link 1
– Ireland’s population had plummeted by more than three and a half million since the Famine and was still in decline. There were some 250,000 fewer people on the island in 1901 than there had been in 1891.
– Late-nineteenth century Ireland was a country of tiny farmsteads and nasty urban tenements. It was an era when some Irish people still lived in mud cabins. Partial failure of the potato crop, which happened a number of times during the 1890s, was still capable of generating what late-Victorian administrators coyly called ‘distress’.
– This was a time before the introduction of old age pensions and social welfare arrangements when the workhouse, however harsh its conditions might be, was often the only place of refuge for the aged, the infirm and the indigent. To many, emigration offered the only prospect of a better life.
– More than 32,000 people left in 1899 alone, giving Ireland a higher emigration rate than any other part of Europe. There were thousands of others who migrated for part of the year in search of seasonal labour whose proceeds could help sustain their families at home. Video Link 1
