SPAIN
Sánchez’s wife will have to explain the emails from her advisor asking companies for money…or will she? Judge’s manditory retirement may let her off the hook!: {Translation, summary}
– Judge Peinado’s recent order exposes the deep rot at the heart of Pedro Sánchez’s administration, shattering the façade of competence and integrity that the Prime Minister and his allies try to project. What Sánchez and Bolaños celebrated as a triumph – the Supreme Court’s temporary halt to the Minister of Justice’s indictment – has crumbled, revealing a brazen exploitation of public office for personal and political gain. Cristina Álvarez, officially a public servant, allegedly performed private errands for Begoña Gómez {pic}, Sánchez’s spouse, and even solicited corporate sponsorship for a university chair awarded to her, despite Gómez lacking any formal academic qualifications.
– The evidence, including emails and witness testimonies, points to a network where public resources are diverted to serve private interests, facilitated by positions of trust within the presidency. The Madrid Provincial Court stresses that the investigation must determine whether Álvarez exceeded her duties, highlighting the clear abuse of office. Ties with Barrabés Group companies, the privileged access granted to Gómez, and the orchestration of influence through institutional channels reveal a systematic pattern of nepotism and cronyism.
– Peinado’s assessment leaves no doubt: these actions may constitute criminal misconduct under Article 24.2 of the Penal Code. This scandal reveals how political elites can weaponize government structures for personal enrichment, corroding the principles of accountability and public trust.
– {This situation is now complicated by the fact that Judge Juan Carlos Peinado has his mandatory retirement due in January 2026, after a 1 year extension was granted him in January 2025. This extension was granted just three months before Peinado became involved in the high-profile “Begoña Gómez case, which in hindsight is a bit suspicious. With Peinado’s retirement, the future of the case may be uncertain. A new judge will need to review the evidence and determine whether to continue the investigation or dismiss the charges. This transition could lead to delays or shifts in the legal proceedings, depending on the new judge’s interpretation of the case and the existing evidence. -Ed.} Source, Spanish: https://www.libertaddigital.com/espana/politica/2025-08-20/peinado-cerca-a-begona-gomez-la-mujer-de-sanchez-tendra-que-explicar-los-mails-de-su-asesora-pidiendo-dinero-a-empresas-7287259/
ANDALUCÍA
The number of dependent Andalusians receiving care is increasing, although waiting times are the longest in Spain: {Translation}
– The number of people receiving support under the dependency system has increased in Andalusia while the average waiting time has decreased, although the region once again records the worst figure in Spain: 570 days, around a year and a half. The average across the autonomous communities in the same study was 344 days.
– Imserso has published the monthly report on dependency in Spain, whose results at the end of July show a slight improvement in the general functioning of the Andalusian system. The Junta of Andalusia highlighted in a note sent to the media on Wednesday the figures for people attended to and benefits processed compared with the previous month, numbers it described as a “record”. This slight improvement is generally reflected in other autonomous communities.
– The Andalusian government also notes the reduction in average waiting days compared with the previous month: 570 days at the end of July compared with 574 in June. Although the official note emphasises progress compared with 2015 and 2016, analysis of earlier years reveals a flaw in management. The 570 days in July, from the moment a resident requests a benefit until it is granted, represents a decrease from 602 days at the end of 2024, but worsens the situation compared with 557 days at the end of 2023 and 544 days at the end of 2022.
– The government also stresses its goal to transform the dependency care system. Its intention, it says, is “to create a more effective model” through measures such as “simplifying the procedure to a single visit and single resolution”, “using a single software application”, and implementing a “technological revolution” in the Telecare Service.
– The Andalusian government has recently approved a “new increase in funding for places in day centres and residences for older people and people with disabilities”, according to the note. A further 4.5 per cent rise in the price per place has been authorised, retroactive from 1 January 2025. Since 2019, there has been a 26 per cent increase for care of older people and an average 32 per cent increase for people with disabilities.
– The Junta insists that the central government co-finances 50 per cent of the dependency system, as it has expressly committed to in the Basque Country. The latest data indicates that Andalusia finances 69.1 per cent of the system, with the General State Administration contributing 30.9 per cent.
– Regarding co-payment, the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (Cermi) has requested that the State and autonomous communities regulate co-payment in dependency as a fiscal charge, following a ruling by the Supreme Court on 23 June. Cermi believes this ruling requires a complete revision of user cost participation under the Law on Promotion of Personal Autonomy and Care for People in Situations of Dependency. The reservoirs of Andalusia chain 14 weeks in a row losing water: {Translation, summary}
– Andalusian reservoirs have suffered fourteen consecutive weeks of water loss, with the 49 facilities holding just under 6,000 cubic hectometres. Since mid-May, no gains have been recorded. Fourteen weeks ago, the Confederation-managed reservoirs reached nearly 5,000 cubic hectometres, but now hold only 3,826, 47.42 per cent of total capacity. Basins under the Junta of Andalusia hold just over 2,000 cubic hectometres, slightly below 48 per cent.
– Some areas fare better, such as the Mediterranean Basins at 51.6 per cent and the Tinto-Odiel-Piedras system at 63 per cent.
– Summer water consumption in the Guadalquivir system has increased, with over 12 cubic hectometres released daily, leaving storage below the 25-year average of 4,084 cubic hectometres. Despite this, the basin retains sufficient reserves for the next three years. Beginning the dry season at nearly 48 per cent capacity is considered a hopeful position for upcoming inflows and recovery. AXARQUÍA
Farmers foresee 80% less grape harvesting in Malaga due to drought and Mildew: {Translation}
– The raisin grape harvest is not experiencing its best period. Production will fall by 80 per cent this year in the Axarquía region of Málaga, one of the main producing areas of this product, as a consequence of drought and the mildew disease affecting it, according to the Union of Small Farmers (UPA). “The rains brought by the DANA had raised expectations of a good harvest, but the lack of precipitation since then has been very damaging,” stated Francisco Moscoso, Secretary General of UPA Málaga, in a statement on Tuesday.
– He affirmed that producers in the Axarquía “will find it very difficult to maintain their operations” due to rising production costs, “which continue to increase,” and the “ruinous farm-gate prices” they receive, making cultivation “unviable in a region that depends on vineyards.” Moscoso urged the relevant authorities “to be aware” of the harsh reality facing the sector and to assist producers “so that they may continue to live decently” from this crop and in their villages.
– The UPA observes “with great concern” that producers “receive no compensation from the supposed publicity that the authorities wish to grant the raisin grape through meetings and membership in the SIPAM (Important Agricultural Heritage System of the World).” “It is unacceptable that the farmer gains no benefit from the raisin grape being catalogued in the SIPAM. This is unprecedented and does not occur with other crops with various certifications such as a PGI or a designation of origin, for example in the case of olive oil,” Moscoso emphasised.
– Productions with such protective labels “enjoy benefits not considered for the raisin grape,” for which the administration “should adopt measures aimed at genuine promotion that positively impact farmers so they may continue to live decently from their crops.” Source, Spanish: https://www.malagahoy.es/malaga/preven-cosecha-uva-pasa-malaga-sequia_0_2004590147.html
ANTEQUERA
The Roman Villa of La Estación in Antequera opens, featuring the largest mosaic in the Iberian Peninsula: {Translation, summary}
– The city of Antequera in Málaga has inaugurated the Roman Villa of La Estación, a major suburban archaeological complex of great cultural value. The villa, built around 250 by the Licinii family and inhabited until the early sixth century, was an aristocratic residence that combined domestic, agricultural and social functions. It is distinguished by elaborate architecture, mosaics including the largest in the Iberian Peninsula with fine marbles, sculptural pieces and sophisticated engineering such as a subterranean spring system for natural air conditioning.
– The site covers more than 20,000 square metres, yet only 20 per cent has been excavated, leaving a vast area for future research. Discovered in 1998 during road works, its study has revealed treasures including the “Venus of Antikaria,” a bust of Nero, a second-century Venus and mosaics with unique motifs. Between 2019 and 2023, conservation works added walkways, protective structures and lighting, allowing public visits managed through the Antequera City Museum.
– Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2006, the project has cost nearly one million euros, funded jointly by the Spanish Government and the local council. The villa now enriches Antequera’s heritage and tourism while preserving an exceptional Roman legacy. Radioactive Prawns Alert: {Translation, summary}
– Consumers are advised to avoid eating frozen prawns from the Indonesia PT Bahari Sejati company (doing business as BMS Foods) or Walmart’s Great Value brand.
– The government of USA issued this Tuesday an alert for the possible presence in the country of frozen prawns from Indonesia contaminated with cancer causing radioactive cesium. {While the US is their concern, since Walmart, the distributor of these prawns, is a multinational, it is possible some of these prawns were provided to other regions; or that an EU distributor also sources prawns from the Indonesia PT Bahari Sejati company, BMS Foods or Walmart. -Ed.}
– Walmart confirmed that the type of prawn under investigation is sold under the Great Value brand label. They confirmed distribution to the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia.

Beware Of Scam VPN “FreeVPN one”:
– [Freevpn.one] is a free VPN available as a Chrome extension. This VPN has been exposed as spyware. For years, FreeVPN.One sat quietly in the Chrome Web Store, doing what it claimed to do. A basic VPN tool. Nothing in its behaviour hinted at what was coming. Then one day, the developer likely decided he wanted to capture users’ screens.
– Most people turn to a VPN for one reason: privacy. And with its verified badge, featured placement, and 100k+ installs, FreeVPN.One looked like a safe choice at the Chrome Store. But once it’s in your browser, it’s not working to keep you safe, it’s continuously watching you.
– According to KOI Security, the extension, once installed in Chrome, activates a trigger in the background that makes screenshots of what users are doing, whether to see a website, open a spreadsheet or enter your bank account.
– {I suggest if you have this installed on your Chrome based browser that you uninstall it asap, restart, then run a “full system” security/malware scan from whatever anti-virus you use. The Win 11 built-in anti-virus scanner is sufficient, but be sure to do a “Full System Scan”, and not the “Quick Scan”. -Ed.}

Whatever Happened To Common Sense? A worker leaves a coffin in a rubbish bin near the cemetery in Castilblanco de los Arroyos (Sevilla): {Translation}
– A worker from a company contracted by Castilblanco de los Arroyos Town Council for burial services left a coffin in a rubbish container near the municipal cemetery. The Council promptly arranged for its removal and transfer.
– Mayor José Manuel Carballar described the action as irresponsible and emphasised that the cemetery is not privatised; only burial services are outsourced due to the absence of a municipal gravedigger, while cleaning and maintenance remain Council-managed.
– The Council met with the company to stress that the incident was unacceptable, must not recur, and to enforce accountability and any necessary measures. The affected family {?} has expressed deep distress over images circulating on social media and may pursue action against their dissemination. Residents have been urged to inform the Council before sharing images that could infringe privacy or sensitivity, allowing immediate response. The company had been performing its duties professionally until the incident occurred. NATURE
Spain has more forests and relatively fewer fires- reality debunks the government’s climate propaganda: {Translation}
– The official narrative insists on the alleged deterioration of Spain’s forests. The Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, urgently calls for a major climate pact, while the supposed need for further green regulations to “save the planet” is repeatedly emphasised. Yet the Ministry of Agriculture’s own data contradicts this account. According to the Survey on Crop Areas and Yields (ESYRCE), forested land in Spain has not diminished but has, in fact, expanded over the last ten years.
– In 2014, ESYRCE recorded 19,013,972 hectares of forested land. A decade later, the same survey shows net growth, with 19,447,892 hectares now registered. That represents an increase of more than 430,000 hectares in just ten years. Of these, 1,837,669 hectares correspond to conifers and broadleaf trees in 2024.
– This positive trend is neither accidental nor a statistical fluke. The National Forest Inventory (IFN) confirms that Spain has been steadily increasing both forest mass and biomass for decades. Today, about 55 per cent of the national territory is classified as forested land, including wooded areas, scrubland and other natural formations. This is largely due to agricultural abandonment, state-driven reforestation programmes, and natural regeneration since the mid-twentieth century. These factors have made Spain one of the European countries with the fastest growth in forest cover.
– Spanish forests are now larger and contain 40 per cent more timber than fifty years ago. Between 1990 and 2020, timber volume rose from roughly 600 million cubic metres to more than 950 million. This increase highlights both the benefits of greater carbon capture and the challenge of managing forests to prevent fires. In short, there is not only more forested land, but also more biomass and greater carbon absorption than three decades ago.
– Growth is not limited to forests. ESYRCE also records the steady expansion of woody crops such as olive groves, almond orchards, vineyards, walnut trees and pistachios. Olive groves alone now exceed 2.7 million hectares, having expanded consistently over recent decades. Almond plantations have also spread rapidly, driven by international demand.
– These figures reveal that Spanish farmers, often criticised and heavily regulated in their use of pesticides, pruning, and stubble management, have in fact played a key role in the reforestation seen in recent years.
– The numbers say it all: Spain has more forested land and more woody crops than it did a decade ago. {Larger forests naturally have more exposure to wildfires, so an increase is to be expected some years. We have had worse years in terms of forest fires, and that was back when the forests were considerably smaller. See chart. -Ed.} Nevertheless, the Government persists in a catastrophic and misleading narrative to justify further climate pacts, new supervisory bodies and additional restrictions on economic activity in order to achieve their {globalist Agenda 2030} goals. Source, Spanish: https://www.libertaddigital.com/espana/politica/2025-08-20/espana-tiene-mas-bosques-y-menos-incendios-la-realidad-desmonta-la-propaganda-climatica-del-gobierno-7287201/

Epirus Leonidas, this is the anti-aircraft battery that deactivates drone swarms: {Translation, summary}
– The war in Ukraine has lasted 42 months, with Russia’s invasion ongoing. The conflict has popularised the use of drones as weapons, leading armies to develop specific countermeasures. Small drones, especially when deployed in swarms, are difficult to neutralise with traditional defences.
– One key innovation is the Leonidas system, developed by American company Epirus and introduced in 2020. It is an electronic warfare device that uses high-power microwaves to disable drones in flight by severing their electronic connections, causing them to fall. The system employs gallium nitride solid-state amplifiers, which allow high power without the need for cooling, and it can be mounted on vehicles for mobility. Leonidas can counter drone swarms, halt vehicles at ground checkpoints, and disable boat engines. The United States has supplied units to Ukraine, where they are being used successfully to neutralise Russian drone attacks. If you don’t want me saving your email address do not subscribe/follow, you can unsubscribe and remove yourself from this list using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every subscription issue. Takedown notices must include proof of ownership as well as the date and issue number of the DigameXtra issue containing the infringing content. These may be submitted to digamextra@protonmail.com. Proper takedown notices will be complied with immediately. All images have been credited or copied from what I believe to be copyright free sources.
