Political tension rises- the PP calls the director of Civil Protection a “pyromaniac” and she tells them to “step aside” if they do not “contribute”: {Translation}
– Although the fire situation does not appear to be worsening, political tension is rising. The Deputy Secretary for Regional Coordination of the PP, Elías Bendodo, on Thursday called the Director General of Civil Protection, Virginia Barcones {pic}, a “pyromaniac” for suggesting that some regional governments had overreacted in order to attack the Executive. In response, Barcones told Bendodo that if he was not going to “contribute” he should “step aside”, while both the Government and the PSOE demand an apology from the Popular Party.
– “The Director General of Civil Protection is another pyromaniac, she has dedicated her statements to insulting regional governments, it is impossible to find solutions like this,” said Bendodo outside the PP headquarters in Madrid. He escalated his rhetoric and questioned how a Director General of Civil Protection could claim that there had been overreaction.
– He stated that regional governments had exhausted all resources before turning to the Central Government for support, which “should not happen” because the Executive “should offer them before the regional governments ask”. He added that this occurs because “the DNA of this Government” is “arrogance”.
– Barcones expressed strong indignation at Bendodo’s words, calling for “a little restraint, calm and responsibility”. “Calling any official a pyromaniac… he is accusing me of a crime, he is saying I am a criminal. How far are we going to go,” she emphasised. She urged “those who do not contribute to step aside” and assured she will continue “working” to prevent fires from reigniting. “I would ask that they stop insulting me. But if they think they must insult me, they will not prevent me from doing my job and defending the truth,” she insisted. Regarding the recent political clashes, Barcones added that “there is a point” that even makes her “weary” to think that people with “institutional responsibility” instead of supporting Civil Protection, are attempting “to undermine it”. “They can continue seeking the point, the comma or the hyphen to divert attention,” she said.
– Indignation in the Government is high. Sources at Moncloa (President’s residence) consider Bendodo’s words “disrespectful” and “indecorous”. They believe the PP is showing that its sole aim is to oppose the Government, as evidenced by other statements from the same Deputy Secretary.
– From Ferraz (location in Madrid of the PSOE- Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party- headquarters), they demand Bendodo’s “immediate retraction” for his insults “in the midst of the wildfire wave”. They criticise the “incendiary rhetoric” of the Popular Party and assert that “Feijóo is the dirtiest politician in this country, and his team is not far behind”. Socialist sources accuse the PP of launching a political and media “hunt” and urge them to decide whether they want to be “a small appendage of the far right” or “a state-worthy right-wing party compatible with Europe”, adding that they are “heading towards the former”.
– Bendodo stated that the Director, “who is supposed to be a professional addressing technical issues and how she could assist in extinguishing the fires, is another pyromaniac who has insulted the regional governments”. He also accused the Government of “disloyalty” in managing the forest fires and seeing each “crisis” as an “opportunity” to politically “harm” the PP. “And they are wrong because what they do harms the citizens,” he added. Petrol prices continue to fall in the middle of summer and filling up the tank is up to 5.7 euros cheaper: {Translation, summary}

Rincón de lah Victoria manages 77 feline colonies with the CER method: {Translation}
– The Rincón de la Victoria Town Council, through its Department of Health, is continuing with the cat colony management program approved in 2023, in compliance with Law 7/2023 on the Protection of Animal Rights and Welfare.
– Since its launch, a total of 77 colonies have been registered in the municipal census, accounting for 1,079 cats. Of these, 673 have been sterilized and 148 have been microchipped, thanks to the rigorous application of the CER method (capture, sterilization, and return).
– The procedure, which guarantees the welfare of the animals and health control, consists of capturing the cats in the colony, subjecting them to a veterinary examination, sterilizing them, identifying them with microchips, administering mandatory vaccinations and deworming, and finally returning them to their colony of origin.
– The City Council reminds residents that any lack of control in these colonies usually occurs only when food is provided indiscriminately.
– The program is being developed in collaboration with the Official College of Veterinarians of Malaga and five local clinics that are members of the CER.2 agreement. Since 2023, four training sessions have been held with 108 participants, including workshops for volunteer catchers, who now have the necessary accreditation to carry out these tasks. Rincón de la Victoria was a pioneer in 2022 when it signed the CER.1 agreement and was the second municipality in the province to join CER.2, after Torremolinos.

A man is arrested after setting fire to a bar for not putting mayonnaise in his sandwich: {Translation, summary}
– The Civil Guard has arrested a resident of Córdoba who set fire to a bar in Los Palacios and Villafranca (Seville). The man had asked for mayonnaise for the sandwich he was eating and, after receiving a refusal, doused the establishment with gasoline and set it on fire.
– As confirmed by the Civil Guard, the detainee, who is charged with crimes of damage and fire with danger to people, entered the establishment at around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. There, he ordered, among other drinks, a montadito, requesting at that moment that they give him mayonnaise, although the waiter told him that they did not have at the bar.
– Once on the terrace, he asked the same question to a waitress, who gave him the same answer, at which point he asked the same question. Italy arrests Ukrainian suspected of involvement in Nord Stream pipeline blasts:
– Italian police said Thursday they had arrested a Ukrainian man suspected of being one of the coordinators of the 2022 attacks on the Nord Stream gas pipelines, which were built to carry gas from Russia to Germany. Prosecutors believe the suspect was one of a group of people who placed undersea explosives on the pipelines.
– The suspect, identified only as Serhii K. in line with German privacy rules, was arrested overnight by officers from a police station in Misano Adriatrico, near the Italian city of Rimini, federal prosecutors said.
– In a statement Thursday, prosecutors said Serhii K. was one of a group of people who placed explosives on the pipelines and is believed to have been one of the coordinators. They said he is suspected of causing explosions, anti-constitutional sabotage and the destruction of structures. He was arrested on a European arrest warrant that was issued on Monday.
– The suspect and others used a yacht that set off from the German port of Rostock, which had been hired from a German company using forged IDs and with the help of intermediaries, prosecutors said.
