SPAIN

Congress Tightens Grip on Journalists with New Accreditation Rules: {Translation, summary}
– The Spanish Congress has approved a new regulation restricting journalists’ work in Parliament, with PSOE and Sumar using their majority to impose rules opposed by the PP. Accreditation will now be denied to small outlets with fewer than ten staff, YouTube channels, digital-only broadcasters, aggregators, and even online editions of traditional newspapers. Journalists linked to political party communications teams are also excluded.
– The regulation sharply limits press freedoms inside the Chamber. Only accredited television operators may film, and only photojournalists may take still images. Writers are barred from taking photographs altogether, though they may record audio. Both groups face additional restrictions: images of MPs’ personal devices or documents are strictly prohibited, and unauthorised recording within parliamentary premises is banned. Interviews or requests for statements require explicit consent, ruling out spontaneous questions or follow-ups, thereby reducing accountability.
– Supporters justify the move as a response to harassment incidents and as a way to avoid disorganisation, but critics argue that it centralises control over access and information. – By forcing journalists to sign declarations and establishing a consultative body with limited influence, while keeping final sanctioning power in the hands of the ruling majority, Congress risks losing any semblance of credibility or transparency. The judge demands all Begoña Gómez’s emails since Sánchez came to government: {Translation, summary}
– Judge Juan Carlos Peinado has demanded from Moncloa copies of all official emails sent or received by Begoña Gómez, wife of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, from 11 July 2018 to the present. The request follows confirmation that she was given a Presidency account, allegedly used for matters linked to her Extraordinary Chair at the Complutense University. Once gathered, the correspondence will be analysed by the Civil Guard’s Central Operative Unit.
– The judge has also rescheduled Gómez’s testimony to 10 September, when she will answer to a new charge of misappropriation of public funds, relating to the appointment of Cristina Álvarez as her adviser in 2018. Although on the state payroll, Álvarez allegedly worked for Gómez’s university Chair. Peinado has further asked for details of Álvarez’s reporting chain since her government hire. Previously, Gómez was investigated for influence peddling, corruption in business, unlawful appropriation, and practising without qualification. MALAGA CITY

Avian flu in Malaga? Huelin Park closed after the death of twenty birds: {Translation, summary}
– Málaga City Council has temporarily closed Huelin Park after about twenty birds, including ducks, coots and seagulls, were found dead, raising concerns of a possible avian influenza outbreak. Samples of birds and lake water have been sent to regional and national laboratories, with results pending. No further cases have been detected, but surveillance has been reinforced across the city’s wetlands, as similar outbreaks have recently been confirmed in Seville’s Tamarguillo Park.
– Authorities emphasise the closure is a precautionary and temporary measure, pending test results and coordinated action with Andalusian and national protocols. The Council cited Spain’s Avian Influenza Surveillance Programme 2025, which requires immediate removal and testing of dead or sick animals. Experts had already warned in May of a rising risk of avian influenza in Spain, urging a preventive national strategy with vaccine reserves and isolation protocols, as human infections can result from animal contact and cause anything from mild symptoms to severe pneumonia. GRANADA

Night of burglaries in La Rábita- “They broke into four houses and attempted to break into a fifth.”: {Translation, summary}
– A string of burglaries on Saturday night unsettled residents of the hamlet of La Rábita. According to local mayor Francisco Javier Frías, thieves broke into four homes and attempted entry into a fifth. In two cases, the owners were briefly away at a petrol station, raising suspicion that the criminals had inside knowledge. One house was only partially disturbed before the thieves fled, while another was searched completely, though only earrings were stolen.
– In subsequent break-ins, a holiday home suffered minor damage, and intruders in another property fled through a balcony when the owners returned. Finally, three hooded suspects were captured on camera in the El Veredón area.
– Frías warned that such incidents are becoming increasingly common and expressed concern that the village is being closely monitored by criminals. He confirmed that local authorities and law enforcement are now working together to identify and apprehend those responsible. MANILVA

Manilva Grape Harvest Fair 2025: Sat-Sun, 6-7 Sept.
[Feria de la Vendimia de Manilva 2025] {Translation}
– Coinciding with the first weekend of September, Manilva is preparing to celebrate one of its most emblematic events: the Grape Harvest Fair, a festival that pays tribute to wine culture and is recognised as a Festival of Provincial Tourist Singularity by Málaga Provincial Council. Two days filled with tradition, music and togetherness highlight the town’s winemaking heritage and attract hundreds of visitors each year.
– Saturday. The celebration begins on Saturday 6 September at 7:30 p.m. with Holy Mass in honour of Our Lady of Sorrows in the church of Santa Ana, with music provided by the Municipal School Choir. Afterwards, the image will be carried in procession through the streets to Calle Mar, accompanied by the Municipal Band. There the traditional grape offering will take place, together with the popular contest for the heaviest bunch of grapes, one of the most distinctive moments of the fair. As night falls, activity moves to Calle Mar and Plaza de la Vendimia, which will become the hub of music and dance. From 10:30 p.m., the groups Latidos and Kalima will perform, while DJs Pablo Drazza, Becerra and Pájaro will provide music in Plaza de la Vendimia until the early hours. As the highlight of the first day, at 2:30 a.m., renowned international DJ and producer Iván Ortiz, together with the Santo Perreo show featuring DK Tony Toba, will thrill the audience with a high-energy set.
– Sunday. On Sunday 7 September the festivities continue in daylight with the opening of the daytime fair in Calle Mar at 1:00 p.m. Half an hour later, a colourful horsemen’s parade, organised with the Manilva Equestrian Association, will fill the centre of town with spectacle and tradition. From 2:00 p.m., music will once again take centre stage with performances by A Compás Musical, Latidos and Compás Flamenco, alternating on different stages to keep the lively atmosphere going. In the afternoon, from 4:00 p.m., resident DJs will return to Plaza de la Vendimia with the latest hits, leading up to one of the most eagerly awaited events: the traditional grape treading at 7:00 p.m., when attendees can taste the first wine of the season. The Grape Harvest Fair will conclude with a performance by the cover band Trueno Azul at 9:30 p.m., closing a weekend in which Manilva embraces its most cherished tradition.
– With its blend of religious devotion, winemaking customs, live music and festive atmosphere, the 2025 Grape Harvest Fair in Manilva stands out as one of the most unique celebrations in Málaga province and a must for lovers of wine, culture and Andalusian festivity. EUROPE

France asks its hospitals to prepare to assist “thousands of soldiers” in case of war in Europe before March 2026: {Translation}
– France has ordered its hospitals to prepare for the possibility of receiving thousands of wounded soldiers in the event of a major European conflict. The directive, dated July 2025 and revealed by Le Canard Enchaîné, instructs regional health agencies to have plans ready by March 2026 to treat between 10,000 and 50,000 casualties.
– Health Minister Catherine Vautrin confirmed the order, describing it as a normal precautionary measure rather than an extraordinary step, stressing the need for readiness against real threats. Hospitals must also design specialised centres for returning combat patients, located near transport hubs to facilitate access.
– The move comes amid heightened tensions linked to the war in Ukraine, with France envisaging a potential role as a rear-guard base for both national and foreign soldiers. Officials emphasise that the order does not signal imminent war but aims to avoid the disorganisation experienced during the covid crisis and to prepare staff for wartime conditions. German Elections Thrown Into ‘Immense Chaos’ After Wave Of AfD Deaths Rises To Seven:
– German elections in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia have been thrown into chaos ahead of a Sept. 14 election – after a spate of candidates for Germany’s right-wing AfD have died in recent weeks – with the total now at seven. And while local authorities say there is no evidence of foul play, officials are now scrambling to shred and reprint ballots as campaigns for the deceased have been suspended.
-In 2022, AfD polled at just 5.4% in a region that’s home to Germany’s industrial base in the Ruhr valley – and which has suffered steep job losses. Now, the party polled at 16.8% in state federal elections last February, while more recent polls suggest the party could nearly match that today.
– “Either Germany votes AfD, or it is the end of Germany,” said tech billionaire Elon Musk, who threw his support behind AfD in recent days.

UKRAINE WAR

Ukraine accuses Russia of “a combined attack” with more than 500 drones and 25 cruise missiles: {Translation, summary}
– Ukraine, on Wednesday, has accused Russia of launching an unprecedented combined assault involving over 500 drones and 25 missiles, calling it one of the heaviest attacks since the invasion began. According to Kyiv, 430 drones and most of the missiles were intercepted, yet at least 69 drones and three missiles struck fourteen sites, targeting energy facilities, a transport hub, parking areas, and residential zones. President Zelensky condemned the offensive as a sign of Putin’s impunity, blaming weak international pressure on Russia’s war economy for continued aggression. He urged partners to impose tougher measures and announced discussions in Denmark, France, and Paris to secure reinforcements and coordinate with the EU and US.
– Moscow, meanwhile, confirmed responsibility, portraying the strikes as precise attacks on Ukraine’s military industry and fuel infrastructure. Russia also claimed to have downed over 100 Ukrainian drones, including in Crimea, Bryansk, and Rostov, where railway services were disrupted after a drone hit power lines. SCAMS

They set up an illegal parking lot at Malaga Airport and use the cars they were supposed to guard: {Translation}
– An unlicensed car park had been operating near Málaga Airport until the Local Police identified the man responsible for running it, who was caught driving one of the vehicles left in his custody while he was over the legal alcohol limit.
– The business consisted of storing travellers’ cars while they were away. The investigation began on 7 August, when a unit from the Neighbourhood Police Headquarters of Churriana was called to one of the airport’s parking areas following a complaint from a traveller who had left his vehicle with the company. On his return to Málaga, the customer was given back his keys and car, but the vehicle showed significant damage. When questioned, the employee walked away without explanation. Repeated phone calls to the firm went unanswered, preventing his identification at that time.
– As the company’s services had been booked online, the Local Police’s Investigation and Protection Group (GIP) carried out an internet search. They discovered that the business advertised widely on parking platforms aimed at air passengers. These websites already contained numerous negative reviews, with clients reporting that their cars had been returned in poor condition, sometimes with new damage or with increased mileage.
– Officers later attended the airport and observed a man matching the description, moving and handing over cars. He parked some in unauthorised areas marked for towing, and placed all sets of keys in the boot of a single vehicle. When questioned, the man claimed he was not formally employed, insisting the company belonged to a relative, and admitted he had no work permit. A search of his bag revealed twelve sets of keys and a delivery receipt book. In the boot of his base vehicle, police found a further 150 sets of keys, a large bolt cutter and promotional cards for the firm. The officers also noticed a strong smell of alcohol. A breath test confirmed he was over the legal limit while driving one of the clients’ cars.
– According to police sources, the company gained customers through online adverts, but, lacking proper infrastructure, left vehicles in unpaid AENA car parks or in open fields near the airport. The documents used for collection also listed false business addresses. The Local Police warned that such practices “pose a serious risk to users’ property and constitute unfair competition in commercial, employment and fiscal terms” against legitimate firms operating with full guarantees. The matter has been referred to the National Police to determine whether criminal offences may have been committed, and to the relevant employment and regulatory authorities. Cycling News- The eleventh stage of La Vuelta a España is cancelled three kilometres from the end due to a massive pro-Palestinian protest at the finish line: {Translation, summary}
– The eleventh stage of the Vuelta a España, held in Bilbao, was suspended three kilometres from the finish due to a large pro-Palestinian protest. Thousands of demonstrators gathered at the finish line to denounce the participation of the Israel Premier Tech team, prompting organisers to neutralise the race for safety reasons. General classification times were taken at three kilometres, but no stage winner was declared.
– This drastic decision followed escalating tensions. On Tuesday, a rider crashed after activists entered the course, and Wednesday’s stage was also briefly interrupted when protesters blocked the road with a banner reading “Destroy Israel.” Police intervened, allowing the peloton to continue.
– The incident was the fourth such protest in just eleven stages, after previous demonstrations disrupted earlier stages. Rider safety and the controversial presence of Israel Premier Tech have become pressing issues, with organisers struggling to balance security with the race’s continuity. RECALLS

Three batches of a shower gel, Kneipp Litsea Cubeba Limón, are recalled due to the presence of bacteria: {Translation}
– On Tuesday, the Spanish Medicines Agency (Aemps) announced on its website the withdrawal and cessation of sales of a shower gel because it contains a bacterium—Burkholderia cepacia—that can cause infections in people with health problems or weakened immune systems.
– Specifically, the warning affects Kneipp Litsea Cubeba Limón. The affected batches are 2506918, 2506917, and 2506919, in 200 ml containers, distributed in Spain through pharmacies, drugstores, perfume shops, and online sales, according to a statement from the agency, which is part of the Ministry of Health.
– The company responsible for marketing this cosmetic product is Kneipp GmbH (Germany). The company has already begun to withdraw the product from points of sale and to recover the units purchased.Those who have one of the affected batches should avoid using the cosmetic and return it to the establishment where they purchased the product. Streameast, world’s largest illegal sports streaming platform, shut down:
– Streameast, the world’s largest illegal sports streaming platform, has been shut down after a year long investigation, according to the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), a coalition of 50 media and entertainment organisation. {Note: This may have been the largest sports streamer within the area ACE controls, but it certainly was not the largest illegal sports streaming platform in operation. Those lie beyond ACE reach, mainly in the former Soviet republics and Asia. They hide beneath multiple protective layers of re-streamer websites that do most of the distribution; if trouble approaches there will be sufficient advance notice as authorities dig thru the upper, more exposed layers, to move the root operations. And it requires a heck of a lot more than 2 guys with laptops & smartphones. This is big business. This poorly researched article is symptomatic of the decline of the NY Times. -Ed.}
– Two men were arrested on suspicion of copyright infringement in El-Sheikh Zaid in the Giza Governorate of Egypt — which is approximately 20 miles west of capital Cairo — and have subsequently been detained. During the raid, authorities seized laptops and smartphones suspected of operating the sites.
– The network of 80 unauthorised domains generated 1.6billion combined visits over the past year, providing free access to global sports fixtures, including Europe’s top football leagues and competitions, such as the Premier League and Champions League, as well as the NFL, NBA and MLB. Traffic to the site reached 136million average monthly visits, with domains primarily originating from the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, the Philippines and Germany. Barcelona teacher, very disappointed, leaves teaching after 27 years, “There are 18-year-old students who don’t know the multiplication tables”: {Translation}
– Àlex Torío is a mathematics teacher who, after nearly thirty years working in education, has decided to take a year’s leave of absence. He explained his reasons on Via Lliure of RAC1. “I feel terribly sorry to have reached this point, but I could not go on. We shall see in a year what I do. But right now, I need to breathe,” he began. The teacher, who is also a singer, said that what he feels is disappointment: “The system only fixes the statistics, not the problem.”
– He added that he has encountered “eighteen-year-old pupils who do not know their multiplication tables” and that he was forced to set excessively easy exams because otherwise the educational authorities would challenge him if too many pupils failed. “The system is in the hands of office-bound educational psychologists who have never set foot in a classroom. We teachers are the ones who know, yet we are not listened to,” he asserted on the programme.
– Finally, Àlex Torío pointed out that these dynamics contribute to children’s decline. “Teachers face pupils who are increasingly demotivated, with an educational burden that does not help to improve the quality of teaching,” he concluded.
