Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

SPAIN

Sanchez Admin Intensifies Attacks On Judiciary Branch- Clear Violation Of Separation Of Powers: {Translation, summary}
– The Sánchez Government is shifting strategy in response to Judge Juan Carlos Peinado’s investigation into Begoña Gómez. Rather than defend themselves against the growing evidence of Gómez corruption, the Executive has opted to attack the Judicial System. Initially, Moncloa tried to halt the magistrate through complaints to the General Council of the Judiciary, but these efforts failed. Crucially, Peinado has been granted an extension by the judicial authority, allowing him to remain in office until September 2026, so procedural delays will not force his retirement before the case concludes.
– As the inquiry advances, with the possibility of Gómez facing a jury trial for embezzlement, the Government has recalibrated its tactics. Instead of openly fighting the judge, it now seeks to instrumentalise the proceedings by portraying them as “lawfare” – a campaign of judicial persecution against the Prime Minister. By presenting Peinado’s actions as politically motivated, Sánchez’s circle aims to discredit the case entirely, even when credible evidence emerges, such as Guardia Civil findings about Gómez’s assistant working for her academic projects.
– This strategy raises serious concerns for democracy. By branding all judicial scrutiny as partisan persecution, the Government undermines the separation of powers and erodes public trust in independent oversight. It transforms the courts into a political battlefield, where accountability is dismissed as harassment. Moreover, Gómez’s refusal to attend a hearing last week that the judge specifically required, is interpreted as defiance of the court, this deepens the perception of impunity and widespread corruption around Sánchez.
– In essence, the Government’s attempt to delegitimise the judiciary to shield itself from investigation threatens democratic checks and balances, feeding disillusionment and the corrosive belief that “all politicians are the same.” Source, Spanish: https://www.pressreader.com/spain/abc-1a-edicion/20250930/281818585009818

Editor’s Analysis:
– Recent analyses and reports suggest that Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s government has supported or initiated several reforms and rhetorical strategies (shift blame, undermine opponents’ credibility, or recast legal scrutiny as persecution) that risk undermining judicial independence and the constitutional separation of powers. For example, the Government has proposed changes to the Code of Criminal Procedure (LECrim) that would shift key investigatory powers from judges to the Public Prosecutor’s Office—an institution appointed and influenced by the executive—thus reducing judicial oversight over corruption cases.
– There have also been formal complaints in the European Parliament and from the General Council of the Judiciary about: persistent political interference in judicial appointments, delays in renewing judicial governance bodies like the CGPJ, efforts to manipulate the selection & confirmation process, and making targeted press releases of questionable accuracy to manipulate public opinion. Such actions, critics argue, grant the executive undue control over the judiciary.
– Together, these moves are viewed by many legal experts and judicial institutions as risking the erosion of the checks and balances that are the foundation of Spanish democracy.

***Highly recommended read for those following Spanish politics***
Spain under Pedro Sánchez – from democratic regeneration to degeneration– a comprehensive analysis:
– Earlier this year, a report by Spain’s Guardia Civil police force revealing abundant evidence of an alleged network of political corruption potentially led by PSOE’s organisational secretary triggered the biggest political crisis in Spain since Pedro Sánchez came to power in June 2018.
– The Prime Minister has appeared several times since then, attempting to downplay the fact that so many people in his immediate circle, including his brother, wife, former vice-president and several top public officials and managers in public companies, are being investigated for corruption offences. In these interventions, in addition to presenting himself as the victim of a deception, Sánchez repeatedly reiterated his commitment to “democratic regeneration” and “the fight against corruption”.

The Government fails to comply for the third straight year with the obligation to bring the Budget to Congress on time: {Translation, summary}
– For the third year running, the Spanish Government has failed to submit the General State Budget on time, leaving the 2023 budget as the longest-running in history. Essential steps, including presenting the stability framework for 2026–2028 and convening the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council, have not yet been completed. Although the Government has presented an updated macroeconomic outlook, with slightly higher growth projections and strong domestic demand, the absence of a formal budget undermines fiscal planning and policy implementation.
– Opposition figures from the PP accuse the Sánchez administration of violating the Constitution and neglecting parliamentary procedure, warning that delayed budgets will impede investment, particularly as Next Generation EU funds run out in 2026. The ongoing delays expose the persistent political gridlock and invite the risks of governing without an approved annual budget. ANDALUCÍA

How Can You Support a Family (or attract skilled talent) on €450 per week? Teachers at the subsidised school in Andalusia will have salaries between 1,767 and 2,075 euros per month: {Translation, summary}
– For the 2025–2026 academic year, teachers in Andalusia’s subsidised schools will see monthly salaries ranging from €1,767 for primary, early childhood, special education, and first- and second-year ESO teachers, to €2,075 for third- and fourth-year ESO, Bachillerato, and vocational training teachers. Additional allowances for seniority will range between €42 and €53 per month, while management roles attract supplements of €302–€443.
– This update is part of the salary equalisation agreement signed in April 2022 between the Andalusian government and employers’ and unions’ organisations, benefiting around 17,000 professionals and costing €47.4 million.
– The current increase adds €14.50 per month for early-stage teachers and €16.50 for higher-level teachers, fulfilling the commitment to total rises of €145 and €165 respectively, distributed over fourteen payments. The adjustments apply to teachers employed under delegated pay arrangements within the region’s subsidised school network. MALAGA PROVINCE

Here Come The Free Speech Censors- Malaga launches the European ReTo project to combat hate speech & crimes of intolerance: {Translation, summary}
– Malaga-based CIFAL Málaga, an international training centre under UNITAR, has launched ReTo – Network of Tolerance, an EU-funded project claiming to combat hatred and intolerance. The initiative brings together multiple organisations, including NGOs, journalists’ associations, and the Spanish Olympic Committee, and plans to use artificial intelligence to monitor social media for “hate speech,” categorised by sex, age, ethnicity and sexual orientation.
– While presented as a tool to promote inclusion, the project raises serious concerns about free expression. By policing online discourse and establishing surveillance-backed databases, ReTo risks stifling legitimate debate and dissent, effectively turning cultural, sporting, and journalistic institutions into instruments of social control.
– The initiative also emphasises monitoring cultural and sporting events and promotions, intervening as needed to promote their social engineering goals, but these efforts appear secondary to its core function: monitoring, classifying, and censoring citizens’ speech. With ambitions to expand across Spain and Europe, the programme exemplifies how well-intentioned campaigns against “hate” can quickly slip into broad, intrusive restrictions on personal expression.
{See photo to view the gang (committee) who have taken it upon themselves to censor your free speech, for the “greater good” as they see it. It’s quite an odd crew– that I wouldn’t trust to walk my dog. -Ed.}

MALAGA CITY

Where’s Their Sense Of Humour? Sex magnets removed from a souvenir shop in the heart of Malaga- “It trivialises violence against women”: {Translation, summary}
– A minor scandal erupted in Malaga when a range of sex-themed souvenir magnets, including images of topless women with the word “Malaga,” were displayed in a busy tourist street. The PP controlled City Council promptly removed them following a complaint from the Women’s Care Team, which condemned the items as sexist and degrading. Officials insisted the magnets had no connection with Malaga and were inappropriate for one of the city’s most touristic streets. The women’s group pressed for sanctions, claiming the products perpetuated stereotypes, trivialised violence against women, and normalised sexual exploitation.
– The shop owners, however, argued that no customers had complained and that the magnets were, in fact, their best-selling items, provoking amusement rather than offence. Even children were seen laughing at the display.
{Tourists treated the items as harmless fun, yet leftist activists condemned them with grave seriousness, and the right wing PP controlled council went along with it. This episode underscores the lack of humour and misplaced priorities, of both the left & right, by persons of great self-importance, who cannot distinguish an innocent joke from genuine harm, transforming trivial souvenirs into a moral crusade. Comic-Con highlights the lack of infrastructure in Malaga to support large events: {Translation, summary}
– The San Diego Comic-Con in Malaga exposed severe shortcomings in the city’s infrastructure and event planning. With 125,000 attendees over four days, the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos (Fycma) was overwhelmed, forcing ticket-holders to queue for hours just to gain entry or attend specific activities, resulting in many disappointments. Transport infrastructure, both public and private, failed to handle the surge, revealing long-standing deficiencies in roads, parking, and commuter services.
– Officials, including President Juanma Moreno and Mayor Francisco de la Torre, acknowledged the capacity issues and promised expansions, but experts warn that temporary fixes are insufficient. Political parties and public figures have criticised the mismanagement, with calls to audit decision-making and prioritise citizen experience.
– The event, despite economic benefits estimated at €50 million, left a reputation of chaos, raising questions about Malaga’s readiness to host major international events and highlighting the need for comprehensive infrastructure planning and accountability. TORROX

Torrox asks the Government to prioritise “less stressed areas” to house migrants: {Translation, summary}
– In Torrox, Málaga, controversy surrounds the reception of migrants at the four-star Urban Beach hotel in El Morche, used as a migrant centre since October 2023. Mayor Óscar Medina (PP) criticised the central government for maintaining the facility, claiming it costs 30 million euros and damages local tourism.
– At the September plenary session, the PP used its absolute majority to approve a motion urging Madrid to reorient migrant policy, ensure balanced distribution, and avoid concentrating arrivals in tourist towns.
– Vox opposed the motion, rejecting irregular migration entirely and calling instead for expulsions and strict border control. Its spokesman condemned the PP’s plan as a cosmetic response that fails to address uncontrolled entries.
– The PP, however, argued it supports controlled and supportive immigration and proposed linking migrant reception to rural revitalisation. Councillor Sandra Extremera suggested using disused housing and hotels, with added fiscal, social, and labour incentives to encourage settlement in underpopulated areas.
{What? Dump thousands of unskilled migrants, who can’t even speak Spanish, into the underdeveloped rural wasteland? The same lands abandoned by local Spaniards who have generational farming and building skills but cannot themselves scratch out a living there? What could go wrong with that? -Ed.}

MIDDLE EAST

Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza has been accepted by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while Hamas is yet to issue an official response:
– In summary, Donald Trump’s new 20-point plan to end the war in Gaza requires several linked steps. First, both Israel and Hamas must agree to an immediate ceasefire, with Israel halting attacks and withdrawing forces to an agreed line. Within 72 hours of acceptance, Hamas must release all hostages, alive or dead. In exchange, Israel will free about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, including women and children, and return remains of the deceased. Gaza must then be fully demilitarised, with tunnels and weapons destroyed under international monitoring, and Hamas barred from any role in governance. A temporary technocratic Palestinian committee would run Gaza’s services, while an International Stabilization Force and trained local police manage security. Humanitarian aid would flow without interruption, and Gaza’s infrastructure is to be rebuilt. Economic zones would foster growth, and Israel would not annex Gaza. Longer-term, Palestinians could gain self-determination once governance reforms and security guarantees are in place. European support for Trump’s plan– France, Italy, Portugal and the Netherlands support it, Macron says Hamas MUST comply: {Translation, summary}
– The leaders of Italy, France, the Netherlands, and Portugal have expressed their support for the peace proposal presented on Monday in Washington by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
– French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his appreciation on his Twitter account for Donald Trump’s commitment to ending the conflict in Gaza and securing the release of all hostages. In his statements, Macron urged Hamas, saying that “(The Islamic Resistance Movement) Hamas has no choice but to immediately release all hostages and follow this plan.” Full article: https://www.andaluciainformacion.es/articulo/mundo/rancia-italia-portugal-paises-bajos-respaldan-plan-paz-trump-gaza/202509300935073145308.html

Tennis News- Alcaraz beats Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4 in ATP 500 Tokyo, lets loose a tirade on chair umpire: {Translation, summary}
– Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz won yet another final this Tuesday, this time at the ATP 500 in Tokyo, facing Taylor Fritz. During the match, Carlos became extremely frustrated with the chair umpire, whom he chastised mid-first set over the limited time allowed for recovery and serving.
– The match was very closely contested in the first set when the Spaniard paused after a point that required him to approach the net. Fergus Murphy, the chair umpire, issued a “slow play” warning, which Alcaraz found highly displeasing.
– “Do you think it’s normal that I finish a long point at the net and then hardly have any time to retrieve the balls, with no time to rest? Do you think it’s normal or not? It is obvious you’ve never played tennis in your life,” Alcaraz said, visibly angry.
– After this brief argument (see the exchange in the video), the match continued, and the set proceeded with the same intensity, ultimately being won by Carlos Alcaraz 6–4. Following that tightly contested first set, Alcaraz went on to claim the Tokyo title, again winning 6–4, securing his eighth title of the year. HEALTH

The Patient Ombudsman asks the Public Prosecutor’s Office to investigate delays in breast cancer screening in Andalucia: {Translation, summary}
– The Patient Advocate has called on the Public Prosecutor of Andalusia to investigate the Andalusian Health Service for potential dereliction of duty in the breast cancer early detection programme, citing multiple complaints from patients affected by delays in diagnostic tests. Such delays, the Advocate warns, may worsen the disease, reduce quality of life and increase public healthcare costs.
– The Andalusian Ombudsman confirmed receiving similar complaints, particularly concerning surgical waiting times.
– The Minister of Health, Rocío Hernández, defended the screening programme as essential, noting high participation and the detection of 1,792 potential cancer lesions this year. She acknowledged only four isolated cases of delay “officially documented” by the Ministry and stated that the care pathway is under review, conveniently avoiding the wider issues reported by patients and the Ombudsman.
– Hernández dismissed responsibility as she expressed regret for not being informed sooner and offered apologies, while assuring that the Ministry is investigating possible causes, including limitations in the testing pathway. SCAMS

Fakebook Scam Tricking Elderly with False AI-Generated Facebook Travel Events on Android & Apple Devices:
– Cybersecurity researchers have flagged a previously undocumented Android banking trojan called Datzbro that can conduct device takeover (DTO) attacks and perform fraudulent transactions by preying on the elderly.
– Dutch mobile security company ThreatFabric said it discovered the campaign after users in Australia reported scammers managing Facebook groups promoting “active senior trips.”
– The campaigns specifically focused on elderly people looking for social activities, trips, in-person meetings, and similar events. These Facebook groups have been found to share artificial intelligence (AI)-generated content, claiming to organize various activities for seniors. Should prospective targets express willingness to participate in these events, they are subsequently approached via Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp, where they are asked to download an APK file from a fraudulent link (e.g., “download.seniorgroupapps[.]com”).
– “The fake websites prompted visitors to install a so-called ‘community application’, claiming it would allow them to register for events, connect with members, and track scheduled activities,” ThreatFabric said.
– Interestingly, the rogue websites have also been found to contain links to download an iOS application, indicating that the attackers are looking to target both Android and Apple.
– Should the victim click on the button to download the application, it either leads to the direct deployment of the malware on their devices, or installs a delayed installer to avoid some security functions.
– Some of the Android apps that have been found distributing Datzbro are listed below, followed by their app ID code:
Senior Group (twzlibwr.rlrkvsdw.bcfwgozi)
Lively Years (orgLivelyYears.browses646)
ActiveSenior (com.forest481.security)
DanceWave (inedpnok.kfxuvnie.mggfqzhl)
– The malware, like other banking trojans, has a wide range of capabilities to record audio, capture photos, access files and photos, and conduct financial fraud through remote control, overlay attacks, and keylogging.
