European investigation into the blackout finds that REE allows higher grid voltage than used in the EU but points to ‘spikes’ from electricity companies: {Translation}
– The ENTSO-E factual report on the 28 April blackout in Spain and Portugal identifies network overvoltage as the key factor leading to the Iberian grid’s disconnection from the EU system. The blackout, described as the most serious in Europe in over 20 years, occurred after voltage in Spain exceeded the normal range tolerated by Portugal, while Red Eléctrica maintained that voltages remained within Spanish limits. Plant disconnections, particularly from photovoltaic and wind facilities, contributed to the overvoltage, though ENTSO-E notes these trips occurred before any excessive voltage developed.
– Only four of seven nuclear plants were operational that day, with closures justified by Red Eléctrica due to sufficient generation. Experts emphasise that the incident was local, originating in southwestern Spain, and was not caused by renewable energy penetration but by insufficient regulation enabling all generation types to control voltage.
– ENTSO-E highlights gaps in data provided by electricity companies and plans a final report in October 2026, which will examine generator behaviour, voltage control, and system defence. The report confirms Red Eléctrica’s sequence of events, emphasising the need for improved voltage management, regulatory updates, and coordinated actions to prevent recurrence of such extreme grid incidents. Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/nacional/investigacion-europea-apagon-constata-que-ree-permite-mas-tension-red-que-ue-pero-senala-los-disparos-electricas_6511759_0.html

Electricity Companies See Corredor’s Accusation of Their Plants as the Best Defence in Court: {Translation}
– The conclusions of the factual report by European experts on the circumstances of the 28 April blackout have again highlighted the role of power generation plants in failing to absorb sufficient reactive energy to control grid voltage, or in disconnecting erroneously as a self-protection measure when there was no reason to do so. These actions exacerbated the overvoltage, which in seconds brought down the network shortly after midday. Upon release of the findings by ENTSO-E, of which Red Eléctrica is a member, the company welcomed that the conclusions “confirm the sequence of events” in its analysis, pointing to problems in distribution networks owned by the electricity companies. However, the companies themselves view this as a double-edged argument, demonstrating that the system cannot withstand isolated faults.
– Red Eléctrica noted that “the first generation disconnections occurred in distribution networks at a time when grid voltages were within operational limits.” The ENTSO-E report traces the sequence: the first plant in Granada disconnected, reducing generation and destabilising the system; the second in Badajoz; and the third across Cáceres, Badajoz, and Sevilla. Previously, Corredor had indicated in the Senate that a “photovoltaic plant in Extremadura” was the starting point of the blackout, where the owners had conducted an operational experiment a year prior.
– The companies interpret these observations very differently, seeing them as more exculpatory than accusatory. They argue that if the failure of a single plant, no matter its size, is sufficient to collapse the Iberian grid, it demonstrates systemic vulnerability. Marta Castro, regulatory director of AELEC (Spanish Association of Electricity Generation Companies), told the Senate that the industry finds it unbelievable that a single plant could trigger a blackout. She argued that this exposes the grid’s fragility rather than any specific plant’s fault.
– This reaction reflects not only incredulity, since it is relatively common for plants to fail to operate, but also serves as a warning regarding the expected judicial process stemming from the 28 April blackout. With the ENTSO-E factual report, there are now four evaluations of the event, alongside reports from the Ministry for Ecological Transition, Red Eléctrica, and AELEC. The report from the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC), which can impose fines up to €60 million, is still pending. However, these fines are minimal compared to potential claims for damages from energy-intensive industries, major retailers, and individual citizens affected by nearly a full day without electricity.
– Sources indicate that Corredor’s insistence on blaming individual plants may backfire, exposing the operational fragility of the system itself. Electricity companies anticipate deploying all operational data in court, and admit that Corredor’s accusations may ironically benefit them: “Let her continue,” they reportedly say. Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/nacional/las-electricas-ven-acusacion-corredor-contra-sus-plantas-como-origen-apagon-su-mejor-defensa-ante-justicia_6511889_0.html

Twenty-one crew members of the Palestine Freedom Flotilla return to Spain: {Translation}
– Twenty-one of the 49 Spaniards who were traveling on the Freedom Flotilla bound for Gaza when it was attacked by the Israeli Navy are now on their way to Spain, including the former mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau. The flight they are traveling on is scheduled to land in Madrid at 8pm Sunday.
– The release, which entails immediate expulsion from Israeli territory, comes as a result of negotiations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the authorities in Tel Aviv. The returns are limited only to those who have signed their extradition orders. Those who have refused will have to wait a maximum of three days for the Israeli courts to resolve their situation, as they are accused of entering the country illegally.
– The Spaniards are being held in a prison in the middle of the desert. Their defence team alleges a lack of food and water, something that has been denied by Israeli sources, who maintain that all their needs are being met and that they are receiving medical assistance. Three Spaniards have begun a hunger strike, according to lawyer Jaume Asens.
– Diplomatic talks have taken place in a climate of extreme tension in relations between Spain and Israel, after Pedro Sánchez’s government approved a series of sanctions against the Jewish state and recognized the genocide in Gaza. Tel Aviv responded with accusations of anti-Zionism against the coalition government, banning Vice President Yolanda Díaz and Minister Sira Rego from entering the country, and with references to the legal proceedings affecting the president’s entourage. Despite everything, Tel Aviv’s interest in repatriating all members of the flotilla—belonging to dozens of nationalities—has prevailed in order to avoid an escalation of the diplomatic conflict. – The Government Delegate in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández, has encouraged young people turning 18 in 2025 to apply for the 400-euro Youth Cultural Voucher before 31 October. The aid, available through [https://bonoculturajoven.gob.es/], can be spent over twelve months on books, concerts, museums, video games, and other cultural activities in 3,700 establishments nationwide, including 776 in Andalusia. AXARQUÍA

Goat’s milk production has fallen by half due to bluetongue: {Translation, summary}
– Francisco Moscoso, secretary general of UPA Malaga, warns that bluetongue disease has become the gravest threat to livestock farming in the province. Over 1,500 sheep and goats have already died, mainly in the Guadalhorce Valley, with further cases in Ronda and the Axarquía.
– The disease, transmitted by mosquito bites, does not affect humans but has halved milk production from the Malaga goat breed. Moscoso explains that four viral strains are now circulating, yet existing vaccines only cover three, leaving many herds unprotected. He calls for continued public aid to finance vaccination campaigns and for laboratories to speed up development of new vaccines. Since protection lasts only a year, he also stresses the need for farmers to use repellents, which increase costs.
– Beyond this crisis, he urges support for water infrastructure, rejection of EU subsidy cuts, and measures to attract young people back into agriculture. Source, Spanish: https://www.diariosur.es/economia/agromalaga/produccion-leche-cabra-caido-mitad-lengua-azul-20250911002541-nt.html

Torrox City Council begins an asphalting campaign in strategic areas: {Translation, summary}
– The Torrox Town Council has begun a campaign to asphalt and resurface several key areas with an investment of almost 200,000 euros. Works are under way in La Rabitilla, the Carril de Sevilla and the streets Cabra and Lince in Torrox Park to improve safety and traffic flow. Mayor Óscar Medina noted that the initiative fulfils promises made to residents. He recalled the earlier purchase of over 4,300 square metres in La Rabitilla to build a large free car park, which is now being levelled and marked, similar to the successful Ferrara car parks. The Carril de Sevilla will also be widened and fitted with new signage to ease congestion on the N340 coastal road, a long-standing demand of locals and nearby businesses. The improvements in Torrox Park aim to enhance mobility, safety and the overall appearance of the area. Women affected by failures in breast cancer screening raise the tone and speak of “criminal negligence”: {Translation, summary}
– The Association of Women with Breast Cancer (Amama) has accused the Andalusian Regional Government of “grave negligence” in its breast cancer screening programme, warning that the failure to inform women of inconclusive mammogram results could have criminal consequences. The controversy erupted after President Juanma Moreno admitted that radiologists were told not to notify patients of uncertain results to avoid “unnecessary anxiety.” Amama condemned this explanation as unacceptable, stating that the lack of communication had caused greater anxiety, delayed diagnoses, and worsened prognoses.
– Amama, which has received thousands of distress calls, says the Health Department’s data are inaccurate and its excuses inadequate. The association plans legal action and demands accountability, a full audit of the past three years, and contact with all women affected since 2021. It insists it has no political motives and represents only patients’ interests.
– In response, regional officials, including Moreno and Presidency Minister Antonio Sanz, apologised and announced an emergency plan to review the screening protocol and retest more than 2,000 women. They pledged transparency and rapid solutions, though possible dismissals or political consequences remain undecided. Amama calls on women affected by breast cancer screening failures to consider a class action lawsuit: {Translation, summary}
– Amama (Association of Women with Breast Cancer) has scheduled a meeting with women affected by delays in follow-up tests within Andalucía’s breast cancer screening programme, considering a possible collective lawsuit against the SAS. Meeting info by phone: +34 954 22 22 22. Up to 2,000 women reportedly have inconclusive mammogram results pending, generating public alarm and political pressure. The provinces of Cádiz, Sevilla, and Málaga account for the highest number of pending cases. Por Andalucía calls for review of colon and cervical cancer screening, is the situation similar to the mammogram debacle?: {Translation, summary}
– Por Andalucía has called for an urgent review of the colon and cervical cancer screening programmes in Andalusia, citing concerns that systemic failings similar to those seen in the breast cancer programme could put lives at risk.
– Spokeswoman Inmaculada Nieto criticised the government for contradictory statements and a lack of transparency, warning that delays and mismanagement undermine public trust. The coalition emphasises that immediate action is needed to ensure the accuracy and completeness of medical records for participants, as well as clarity on waiting times and the number of affected individuals.
– Por Andalucía also demands that healthcare resources be reinforced and that those responsible for administrative or procedural failures be held accountable. The party argues that such a review is essential to prevent further delays, safeguard patients’ health, and guarantee timely, high-quality care, warning that publicity measures or age expansions alone cannot address deep structural deficiencies in the screening system.
– While there are no immediate reports of systemic failures in colon and cervical cancer screening programmes in Andalucia, existing studies indicate that challenges such as inequities in implementation and barriers to participation exist. Addressing these issues proactively is essential to ensure the effectiveness and success of these screening programmes. Facua calls on the Andalusian Regional Government to clarify whether the lack of information has occurred in other types of cancer: {Translation, summary}
– Consumer rights group Facua Andalucía has condemned the failures in the breast cancer screening programme in Andalucía, describing them as the most serious scandal in the region’s public healthcare in democratic history. The federation demands clarification from the Junta on whether these errors are confined to breast cancer screening or also affect other preventive programmes, including colorectal and cervical cancer detection.
– The group criticises the Health Councillor, Rocío Hernández, for minimising the problem and downplaying the number of affected women, calling for her dismissal due to negligent and irresponsible management. Around 2,000 women remain with inconclusive diagnoses pending follow-up, generating fear, distrust, and health risks.
– Facua Andalucía insists on rapid action to ensure affected individuals receive prompt evaluation and treatment, transparent communication of procedural reforms, and the establishment of an extraordinary reparation system offering financial, legal, and psychological support to victims, ensuring accountability and restoration of trust in the Andalusian Health Service (SAS). Tennis News- Sinner retires with cramp in Shanghai, Djokovic advances in ‘brutal’ conditions:
– Jannik Sinner’s bid to retain his Shanghai Masters title ended in agonising fashion on Sunday when the world number two was forced to retire mid-match against Tallon Griekspoor due to debilitating cramp in humid conditions {pic}. Griekspoor was leading the third-round clash 6-7(3) 7-5 3-2 when Sinner suffered cramp in his thigh, forcing him to retire after more than 2-1/2 hours on court. “This is definitely not the way you want to win. Brutal conditions here in Shanghai all week,” said Griekspoor, who had lost all six encounters against Sinner prior to Sunday’s match.
– Sinner’s retirement and world number one Carlos Alcaraz’s withdrawal due to an ankle injury blows the draw wide open, with Novak Djokovic in the hunt for a record-extending fifth title in Shanghai. The 38-year-old fourth seed Djokovic battled past Yannick Hanfmann with a 4-6 7-5 6-3 victory in a match that lasted two hours and 45 minutes. F1 News- 2025 F1 Singapore Grand Prix Race Results:
– The 2025 F1 Singapore GP race results saw George Russell take victory in Southeast Asia as the Mercedes driver topped the timesheets in Marina Bay, ahead of Max Verstappen in the Red Bull, with Lando Norris of McLaren finishing third.
– Under the lights of Marina Bay, the Briton held his nerve to take a commanding victory by 5.430 seconds, a result that mirrored Russell’s pole position form on Saturday, as he converted his front-row start into a dominant race lead. Despite a strong start from Verstappen, who briefly threatened through the opening stint, Russell’s calm tyre management and flawless execution through traffic proved decisive.
– Mercedes’ strength was further underlined by rookie Kimi Antonelli, who finished fifth after shadowing the frontrunners early on, while Ferrari endured another mixed outing as Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton came home sixth and eighth, respectively, with the seven-time champion handed a five-second time penalty post-race. SCAMS

Beware of your bank’s SMS message about a supposed transfer, even if they appear to be sent by your bank– authorities warn of a new scam: {Translation}
– “Use the code to make the transfer of €1,900. If you have not made this transaction, please contact us on the following number.” A text message from our bank asks for two-factor verification to carry out a bank transfer, but alarms are raised because the customer has not made any such transaction. Furthermore, the amount is considerable, which causes even more insecurity. Without hesitation, they call the number provided to stop the operation. And that’s where the scam begins.
– In reality, it’s part of a new ‘smishing’ campaign – fraudulent SMS messages designed to impersonate banks in order to trick customers into calling a fake customer service number, with the aim of completing the scam by persuading them to transfer funds to a false backup account. This was flagged today by the National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE), which has received reports from several customers who have received these messages.
– According to the institute, these messages may arrive within the thread of messages from our usual bank, though they are actually fraudulent. It’s important to be wary if you don’t recognise the source of the information. “The text of the message contains some inconsistencies in the wording and omits all accents. Clear signs that the SMS could be a scam,” said INCIBE.
– If the user calls the provided number, they will hear a recorded message pretending to be from the bank itself. Later, the user is answered by someone who claims to be from the bank’s security department. To gain the user’s trust, the scammers assure them that no personal or bank details will be requested at any point. Instead, they guide the user to perform certain actions directly from the bank’s official app or website, but ultimately, the user is told to transfer their funds to a ‘security backup account’ to protect their money, resulting in the loss of the transferred amount.
– INCIBE recommends not calling the number provided, blocking the sender, and deleting the message. In case of doubt, always contact the bank through official channels and regularly check account activity to detect unauthorised transactions.
– If any irregularities are found, they also recommend keeping all available evidence of the incident, such as screenshots of the messages and call logs, to use as evidence when filing a report.
