Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

ANDALUCÍA

The Aemet issues a special warning– a cold drop is coming that will bring “very heavy rain” to the Mediterranean area starting on Wednesday: {Translation, summary}
– Aemet has named the first major DANA of the season, Alice, which will affect parts of eastern Andalucía from Thursday 8 October. The storm is expected to bring heavy and persistent rainfall, with the potential for localised flooding in low-lying areas, streams, and ravines. Rain will spread from the east and northeast, carried by humid winds, and will continue through Friday and the weekend, though intensity may decrease gradually. Residents are advised to monitor official weather updates, avoid risky areas, and take precautions against sudden flooding.
– This DANA marks a historic first in Spain, as it is the first severe non-traditional storm to receive a personalised name under a new regional agreement between Spain, Portugal, and several other European countries. Andalucía’s authorities and residents should remain alert, particularly in vulnerable areas, as Alice’s exact trajectory remains uncertain. Source, Spanish:

COSTA DEL SOL

Nordic organised crime is now exploding on the Costa del Sol: {Translation, summary}
– The Costa del Sol is facing a new wave of violence marked by the growing influence of Nordic criminal networks. The recent daylight shooting of Swedish rapper Hamko in Marbella has exposed how gangs from Sweden and other Scandinavian countries now play a leading role in the region’s underworld.
– These groups, already notorious for their brutal turf wars in northern Europe, are using southern Spain as both a refuge and a battlefield– a place to relax, launder money and quietly eliminate rivals. Police investigations reveal that Nordic gangs coexist with British and Turkish groups, each specialising in logistics, trafficking or financial operations. The shootings in Marbella, Fuengirola and Estepona reflect a shared pattern: swift, professional attacks carried out by hitmen who do not reside in Spain and vanish immediately after.
– Police unions warn that while this international crime ecosystem expands, local resources remain stagnant. Beneath the glamour of beaches and luxury villas, today’s Costa del Sol is increasingly shaped by Nordic mafias whose reach extends far beyond Scandinavia. NERJA

Nerja will set up a network of viewpoints and regulate parking in the Maro Cliffs area: {Translation, summary}
– The Nerja Town Council has approved a 547,500-euro project to enhance the Acantilados de Maro–Cerro Gordo Natural Area, one of the Mediterranean’s most important marine–terrestrial ecosystems. Financed entirely through the EU’s NextGenerationEU funds under the Sustainable Nerja plan, the initiative seeks to regulate access, improve parking and visitor safety, and promote sustainable tourism.
– It includes the creation of panoramic viewpoints along the old N-340 road, new public transport stops, reorganised parking areas, and recreational zones equipped with benches, signs, and waste containers. Safety barriers and bollards will also be installed to separate pedestrian spaces from vehicles and prevent falls near the cliffs.
– Mayor José Alberto Armijo highlighted that the project combines environmental protection with improved visitor access and comfort. Supported by regional and national authorities, the plan represents a key step towards sustainable tourism management and landscape conservation in this protected coastal area. EUROPE

Former French PM says Macron should resign amid deepening political crisis, went thru 4 PMs in under one year:
– French President Emmanuel Macron is running out of wiggle room. The abrupt resignation of his prime minister Monday — Macron’s fourth in more than a year of almost ceaseless political upheaval — puts the French leader in a bind.
– Former French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe has urged President Emmanuel Macron {pic} to call an early presidential election, citing ongoing political instability following the resignation of Sébastien Lecornu, Macron’s third prime minister this year. Philippe suggested Macron wait until the 2026 budget is passed before resigning, warning that staying in office until 2027 would harm France.
– Another former prime minister, Gabriel Attal, also criticised Macron’s leadership, saying many no longer understand his decisions. The crisis stems from Macron dissolving the lower house in June 2024, resulting in a hung parliament where no coalition — centrist, left-wing, or far-right — holds a workable majority. Successive prime ministers have failed to govern effectively amid rising rivalries ahead of the 2027 election.
– Philippe intends to run in the next presidential race, with polls suggesting a potential runoff against a far-right National Rally candidate. Should Macron resign, the Senate President would temporarily assume power, triggering a new presidential election within 20 to 50 days. Billionaire populist Andrej Babis’ party wins Czech parliamentary election:
– Billionaire businessman Andrej Babis has won parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic, although his populist ANO party fell short of an overall majority. ANO received just under 35% of the vote, earning them 80 seats in the 200-seat lower house – up from 72 seats four years ago, according to preliminary results.
– Babis, who served as prime minister from 2017 to 2021, is expected to be invited to lead talks on forming a new coalition. Full article: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c62qezmr92lo

HEALTH

The government approves limited medicinal use of cannabis by decree: {Translation, summary}
– Spain’s Council of Ministers has approved a Royal Decree authorising the medical use of cannabis-based medicines, marking a historic step in national health policy. The regulation, promoted by Health Minister Mónica García, allows their prescription only to patients whose conditions —such as chronic pain, severe epilepsy, or multiple sclerosis— are unresponsive to conventional treatments.
– Strict controls will apply, including a registry managed by the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products and a defined composition of THC and CBD, with higher taxation for products exceeding 0.2% THC. Doctors and hospital pharmacies will oversee dosage, efficacy, and potential side effects to prevent addiction or misuse. Although cannabis remains internationally controlled, the decree cites scientific studies supporting its therapeutic potential. The measure, effective immediately, empowers regional authorities to manage distribution, even through remote-delivery access for patients facing geographical or mobility barriers, and represents a landmark move towards more personalised, evidence-based healthcare in Spain. The Amama association assures that there are “several women already dead due to delays” in breast cancer screening: {Translation, summary}
– The president of the Amama Association, Ángela Claverol, has denounced fatal delays in Andalucía’s breast cancer screening programme, revealing that several women have already died after waiting for follow-up tests following inconclusive mammograms. She criticised the Andalusian Government for its lack of empathy and demanded the immediate hiring of more radiologists.
– Amama has confirmed plans for a collective legal complaint, while the association continues to receive desperate families and cases of women paying privately to avoid delays. Izquierda Unida has separately filed a complaint with the State Attorney General, alleging systemic negligence in the health service’s management. The document accuses three former health ministers of possible crimes including negligent homicide, bodily harm, and failure to provide medical services. It argues that administrative inaction in reviewing inconclusive results caused preventable deaths and violated the legal duty of care, eroding public trust in Andalucía’s healthcare institutions. TECH

Klopatra, a new banking Trojan that has already affected a thousand users in Spain: {Translation, summary}
– A new Android malware named Klopatra is targeting users in Spain and Italy, spreading through fake IPTV apps that promise free football and sports streams. Once installed, it can secretly access the phone, record passwords, and make unauthorised bank transfers while users sleep. Over 3,000 devices have already been infected.
– Experts warn that Klopatra’s advanced protection tools make it extremely difficult to detect, representing a new stage in mobile cybercrime. Users most at risk are those who download apps from unofficial websites or enable installation from unknown sources. To stay safe, they should only use trusted stores, review app permissions, and keep phones updated. Banks also urge customers to activate transaction alerts to catch fraud early. Klopatra’s rise shows that everyday entertainment apps can now hide highly dangerous financial malware.
