Red Eléctrica warns the Government and the CNMC of “abrupt” voltage variations in the electricity system: {Translation, summary}
{Note: I have a voltage meter in my UPS power backup, next to my PC work station. In the past month I have seen many instances of strange incoming voltage readings, swinging between 235V to 249V for several minutes before re-stabalizing at 242V. -Ed.}
– Red Eléctrica, part of the Redeia group, has alerted Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico) and the National Commission on Markets and Competition (Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia, CNMC) to sudden voltage variations in the peninsular electricity system following the 28 April blackout, though still within established limits. The Ministry requested that the system operator take action and that the CNMC reinforce supervision to ensure all agents comply with operational obligations. On 7 October 2025, Red Eléctrica submitted a letter requesting urgent modifications to several electrical operation procedures to address these fluctuations, which it links to abrupt programme changes, particularly in renewable generation, and the response time of units providing dynamic voltage control. The CNMC promptly began processing temporary measures to stabilise the system, sending the draft resolution to the Electricity Advisory Council and publishing it for public comment over five working days. The Complutense University is taking action against Begoña Gómez despite the fact that the Prosecutor’s Office does not see profit in the software: {Translation, summary}
– The Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) has decided to join the criminal case against Begoña Gómez, wife of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, over alleged misconduct during her time as director of the university’s Chair of Competitive Social Transformation. Gómez is accused of irregularly handling a software project financed with 265,000 euros from private companies Indra, Google and Telefónica.
– The program was meant to be freely transferred to UCM, yet Gómez registered it in her own name, along with three related domains, claiming it was to prevent copying. The software was never put into use, and prosecutors maintain she made no personal profit. Nevertheless, UCM’s legal team argues her actions could have caused economic damage to the institution and has agreed to act as an injured party. The case, led by Judge Juan Carlos Peinado, continues to explore whether Gómez misused her position and university resources. ANDALUCÍA

BREAKING NEWS– The Minister of Health of Andalusia, Rocío Hernández, resigns after failures in breast cancer screenings (among her other management such as on-going waiting lists and failed staff hiring efforts): {Translation, summary}
– Rocío Hernández {pic}, the Andalusian Health Minister, resigned on Wednesday evening amid a crisis caused by failures in the breast cancer early detection programme, which affected nearly 2,000 women.
– President Juanma Moreno announced her resignation in an urgent statement at 8:30 pm, apologising to those impacted. Moreno acknowledged Hernández’s lifetime dedication to healthcare and her management of the programme with honesty, despite errors. He emphasised that it was unacceptable that the affected women themselves had to alert authorities to the problem, and stressed that the administration would act decisively rather than assign blame.
– Hernández had previously refused to resign on 3 October, stating that resignation would have been “the easy option” and that her responsibility was to inform those affected and improve the programme. Moreno’s acceptance of her resignation marked a formal response to the crisis and signalled a commitment to address systemic issues within the healthcare system. VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA

A wild duck located on the beach of Benajarafe, the first case of confirmed avian flu in the province: {Translation, summary}
– The first confirmed case of bird flu in Málaga province has been detected in a marbled teal found dead on Benajarafe beach last August. The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that the critically endangered wild duck carried the H5N1 strain, marking the province’s first recorded outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza.
– Vélez-Málaga’s Councillor for Health, Juan Fernández Olmo, said the bird was not captive but a migratory specimen that landed by chance, urging calm while maintaining vigilance. The animal was examined at the Centre for the Recovery of Wild Species (CREA), and no closures of public areas have been ordered. Authorities continue to monitor for additional cases, noting that earlier bird deaths in Málaga city’s Huelin Park were unrelated. Health officials advise avoiding contact with birds, not feeding them, washing hands after park visits, and keeping pets on leads away from droppings or carcasses to reduce infection risks. EUROPE

Surveillance Money– The European Central Bank Accelerates The Digital Euro:
– The European Central Bank’s push for a digital euro has triggered growing criticism across Europe, with many seeing it as a profound loss of financial freedom rather than progress. Critics argue that a central bank digital currency (CBDC) would give the ECB and governments unprecedented surveillance powers, allowing them to monitor, control, and even restrict private transactions.
– Unlike current electronic money, a digital euro would eliminate financial privacy, granting authorities direct access to every citizen’s account and spending history. European banks fear being side-lined, as citizens could shift deposits from commercial banks to risk-free central bank accounts, crippling private lending and concentrating financial power in the hands of technocrats.
– Observers warn that the system could enable limitless money creation, bypassing budgetary controls and fuelling inflation to finance government spending. While the ECB promises efficiency and stability, opponents call the project “monetary tyranny” that erodes independence, privacy, and market discipline. For many, the digital euro represents state control disguised as innovation. UKRAINE WAR

“EU Banging That War Drum”– Von der Leyen declares that Europe is in a “hybrid war” and must “respond” to the Kremlin’s attacks: {Translation}
– The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, warned on Wednesday that Europe is in the midst of a “hybrid war” against Russia, as the latest incidents involving the Kremlin—referring to violations of airspace by Russian drones and fighter jets, such as MiG fighters in Estonia—cannot be considered isolated events: they are a structured and escalating strategy aimed at unsettling the public, testing the cohesion of the European Union, and undermining support for Ukraine.
– During her address to the European Parliament, Von der Leyen emphasised that, in response to such actions—which she likened to electoral manipulation, submarine cable sabotage {A Ukrainian is in police custody for this, no Russian involvement has been established. -Ed.}, or cyberattacks {Often Chinese, Korean or Iranian activities, not always Russian. -Ed.} targeting airports and logistics centres—Europe must not only respond but also prevent them, in order to halt the expansion of this offensive.
– “We must investigate every incident and not be timid in assigning responsibility. Every square centimetre of our territory must be protected,” urged the EU leader. “Planes have been blocked, fighter jets mobilised, and measures deployed to ensure the safety of our citizens. We stand with all affected member states. Together, we will maintain peace wherever it is threatened,” Von der Leyen added.
– The President of the European Commission also praised the joint response to Russian provocations, highlighting cooperation through NATO’s air surveillance system, which enabled Italian pilots to escort Russian aircraft out of Estonian airspace, as well as collaboration with Ukrainian experts who are sharing their conflict experience to help European countries better counter drone attacks. UK

The BritCard Digital ID PsyOp:
– The UK government’s plan to introduce a mandatory digital ID, dubbed the “BritCard,” has provoked fierce backlash as an authoritarian measure that threatens individual freedoms and privacy. Announced by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the scheme would make digital ID a requirement to work, access welfare, rent homes, or use banking services—effectively granting the state full control over economic participation. Critics argue that this move, justified under the guise of tackling illegal immigration, is a smokescreen for mass surveillance.
– The policy mirrors global digital identity initiatives promoted by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 16.9, backed by major tech and data firms such as Palantir, Accenture, and Oracle—companies with deep ties to governments and intelligence networks. Opponents warn that digital IDs would create a system of total data interoperability, linking personal, financial, and behavioural information in a single global database. For many Britons, the BritCard represents the erosion of civil liberties, government overreach, and a dangerous step toward a technocratic surveillance state where personal autonomy is replaced by digital control. The Board announces that those affected by breast cancer screening will have their tests before December– Junta excuses defy logic: {Translation, summary}
– The Government of Andalucía is going to allocate 12 million euros to carry out those tests that have been pending for several months, or even a year. All of them will be completed before December. This is included in the emergency plan approved today by the Council of Government of the Junta to address delays in breast cancer screening.
– The pending tests concern women whose mammograms yielded ‘inconclusive’ results within the framework of the early breast cancer detection programme. These women had to be recalled for a new mammogram or an ultrasound to either confirm a cancer diagnosis or, on the contrary, reveal that the lesion was benign. However, these women not only did not receive their appointments until several months later, but during that time they were unaware that they had a potentially cancerous lesion.
– According to the Junta, the source of the error lies in the protocol of the early breast cancer detection programme. Apparently, there was no obligation to inform women with a probably benign lesion who still needed a second mammogram or ultrasound. According to the Junta’s spokesperson, Carolina España {pic}, that protocol will also be modified to ensure that this error does not occur again. The courts rule that nurses are competent to administer hyaluronic acid for cosmetic purposes: {Translation, summary}
– A Madrid court has acquitted two nurses accused of unauthorised practice for injecting hyaluronic acid for cosmetic purposes. The ruling clarifies that the substance is a medical device rather than a medicine, meaning its indication and administration fall within nursing competences. The General Council of Nursing celebrated the verdict as a major victory, supporting its long-held stance that dermoaesthetic nurses are qualified to perform such treatments. The court stressed that there is no law reserving this procedure for doctors and confirmed that nurses may independently prescribe, use and inject hyaluronic acid. Expert testimony backed this by defining the product as a medical device used intradermally. The ruling was hailed by the council’s president, Florentino Pérez Raya, as long-awaited recognition of nurses’ professional autonomy and skills, reaffirming that their aim is not to invade other fields but to provide safe, competent aesthetic care. ‘The end of the right to privacy in Europe’ – Signal and AfD warn of EU chat control as step towards total surveillance:
– Soon, the EU may have access to every photo, message and video on your phone or computer.
– Germany’s reversal on the EU’s controversial “chat control” proposal has triggered a wave of criticism across Europe, with encrypted messaging app Signal warning that it could spell the end of privacy in Europe. Signal, which threatened to withdraw from the EU entirely, described the plan as mass surveillance “under the guise of child protection,” warning that it would force automated scanning of every private message, image, and video– even those protected by end-to-end encryption.
– The Alternative for Germany (AfD) joined the outcry, calling the measure a “frontal attack on the fundamental rights of all citizens.” AfD’s digital policy spokesman Ruben Rupp said it would treat everyone as a suspect and urged Berlin to vote against “this surveillance madness.” Critics fear the system could eventually expand beyond child protection to censor political speech and punish dissent, placing the EU alongside authoritarian regimes in undermining digital freedom and personal privacy. Google Search AI Mode arrives in Spain: {Translation}
– Google’s AI Mode in Search arrived in Spain this Tuesday, available in Spanish, as part of a wider rollout covering new languages and countries. It offers users a new way to search, allowing more complex questions and the use of both voice and images. Google’s most advanced AI-assisted search experience enables users to delve deeper into any topic through follow-up questions and useful links to the web, with enhanced reasoning and multimodal capabilities.
– AI Mode accepts different types of queries, including multi-part and follow-up questions, and is particularly useful for exploratory searches—those without a single direct answer—or for more complex tasks such as finding information, planning a trip, or understanding complicated instructions, according to Google’s press release. For example, users can now ask: “I want to understand the different methods of making coffee. Create a table comparing the differences in flavour, ease of use, and equipment needed.” They can then follow up with: “What is the ideal grind size for each method?”
– As the company explains, AI Mode uses a query decomposition technique, breaking the question into subtopics and launching multiple searches simultaneously. This allows Search to explore the web in greater depth. AI Mode is multimodal, meaning users can ask questions not only by typing but also using voice or images captured with the camera.
– Starting this Tuesday, AI Mode will appear as a new button on the Search results page and in the Google app for Android and iOS. This forms part of the latest expansion of the tool, which now reaches around 50 new countries and territories, including Spain, and adds 36 new languages, among them Spanish.
{Note: AI is useful, but it makes errors– double check any critical information it provides before relying on it! -Ed.}

Ryanair raises the stakes and announces a third cut of 1.2 million seats in Spain, but more flights to Malaga: {Translation}
– Ryanair continues to escalate its stance. The Irish airline has just announced a new cut of 1.2 million seats in Spain for the summer of 2026. The reason? The “high fees” that Aena charges at regional airports. This would be the third reduction in less than a year. In total, 3 million seats have now been cut in Spain, as these 1.2 million seats add to the 800,000 removed last summer at these airports and the one million eliminated for this winter season. This new ‘exit’ will also result in the complete cancellation of flights to or from Asturias Airport.
– However, the company will increase the number of seats offered by 600,000 at other major airports in the country, such as Madrid, Barcelona, Palma, and Málaga.
– Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary stated at a press conference that the company continues to plan growth in Spain but not at regional airports due to the economic policies of the Government and Aena regarding these facilities.
– The airline’s dispute with Aena will leave a significant gap in Spanish airports. Aside from the chaos caused by hundreds of stranded routes, prices could rise by up to 20% at affected airports due to limited supply and unmet demand.
– According to data comparison platform Casino.org, Valladolid Airport will be the most affected in Spain. Here, the cost of basic tickets is expected to increase by around 18%, which translates to an average rise of about 5 euros per person per trip. It is also the airport with the highest risk of such an increase, with a 70% probability of price hikes. Football News- Ronaldo becomes football’s first billionaire, says report:
– Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first footballer to reach billionaire status, according to the latest Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which has valued the Portugal great’s net worth at an estimated $1.4 billion. The 40-year-old striker’s financial ascent comes after he signed a new contract with Saudi side Al-Nassr in June reportedly worth more than $400 million.
– Bloomberg said that Ronaldo earned more than $550 million in salary between 2002 and 2023, supplemented by a decade-long Nike deal worth nearly $18 million annually, and lucrative endorsements with Armani, Castrol and others that added more than $175 million to his fortune. Ronaldo’s move to Al-Nassr from Manchester United in 2023 had already made him the highest-paid player in football history, with an annual salary of 177 million pounds ($237.52 million), plus bonuses and a reported 15% share in his Saudi Arabia club.
– Argentina and Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi has earned more than $600 million in pre-tax salary during his career.
– Ronaldo’s billionaire status places him among a rare group of athletes that includes basketball greats Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and LeBron James, golfer Tiger Woods and tennis player Roger Federer.
– Ronaldo suggested he is not considering retirement any time soon. “I still have a passion for this,” he said at the Portugal Football Globes gala on Tuesday. “My family says it’s time to quit and they ask me why I want to score 1000 goals if I’ve already scored 900-something. But I don’t think that way inside.
“I’m still producing good things, I’m helping my club and the national team. Why not continue? I am sure that when I finish I will leave full because I gave everything of myself. I know I don’t have many years left to play, but the few I have left, I have to enjoy them to the fullest.” Full article: https://www.reuters.com/sports/soccer/ronaldo-becomes-footballs-first-billionaire-says-report-2025-10-08/
