Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

The Government gives the green light to the coup against the Judiciary and presents it as “a historic and guaranteeing law”: {Translation, summary}
– It is an undeniable fact that, following the announcement of Junts’ break with the investiture bloc, any initiative approved by the Government in the Council of Ministers and subsequently required to pass parliamentary procedures in the Congress of Deputies is doomed to fail. Among these is the reform of the Criminal Procedure Law promoted by the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños {pic}.
– The Justice Minister specified that the law, which he described as “historic,” aims for prosecutors to take charge of the investigation of judicial cases, ending a jurisdiction that has, since 1882, belonged to judges. The proposal emerges in an especially delicate context for Sánchez’s Government, besieged by accusations of corruption and various legal scandals. A move that, according to judges’ associations, could be seen as political interference in the judiciary, but which the Government defends under a “guarantee-based,” “modernist,” and “European” rationale. “Questioning the professionalism and impartiality of the Public Prosecutor’s Office pains me, but it will especially pain prosecutors when they hear such criticism,” Bolaños retorted in a press conference after the Council of Ministers.
– If successful, this measure would transfer investigative responsibility to prosecutors who, under a hierarchical model like that of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, report to the Attorney General of the State, closely linked to the Government’s executive office. The law will allow the Attorney General’s mandate to be extended to five years, with the aim of ensuring it does not coincide with the Government’s term.
– According to Bolaños, this law would not come into force until January 2028 and will not affect ongoing judicial cases. “This law improves the criminal process, speeds it up, aligns it with Europe and makes it a more guarantee-based law,” he defended.
– The Government assures it will engage in dialogue with all parliamentary groups to ensure the measure succeeds and is not ignored. However, tensions are no longer limited to Junts: its coalition partner, Sumar, has expressed displeasure with the decision to restrict the figure of popular accusations by excluding political parties. Sources from Sumar reject the reform proposal, see next article. Source, Spanish: https://www.libertaddigital.com/espana/…

Wha cha hidin’ Pedro? Sanchez Admin Tries to Limit Who May Bring Accusations to the Courts: {Translation}
– SUMAR showed its disagreement this Tuesday with the latest reform of the Criminal Procedure Act by the Government, approved by the Council of Ministers. This objection raised by the left-wing coalition focuses specifically on “the limitation of the popular accusation” as incorporated by the Ministry of Justice into a much wider package of very significant changes.
– “We reject the proposed reform of the popular accusation that limits the ability to exercise the accusation by associations, trade unions, and civil society. Over recent years, this instrument has proven essential for civil society’s control over abuses of economic and political power,” sources from Sumar state.
– In this regard, the group has announced that during parliamentary processing, it “will not support” this limitation but instead “will work for the strengthening of the popular accusation as a critical function of law, as well as to introduce more, related guarantees into the courts.”
– The regulation, as proposed by the socialist Government, limits the popular accusation by banning political parties, associations, trade unions, civil society or individuals from using it; also restricting it to certain crimes, corruption offences are included, and requiring a “legitimate link” to the case in question to be able to exercise it. Source, Spanish: https://www.eldiario.es/politica/ultima-hora-actualidad-politica-directo_6_12720129_1116443.html

Editor’s Note on previous two articles:
– The European Union is closely scrutinising Spain’s newly proposed criminal justice reform package, which dangerously curtails the role of so-called “popular accusations”, third-party legal interventions crucial for ensuring accountability of public officials and government, especially in corruption cases. By slashing civil society’s powers to bring these accusations, the reform recklessly undermines judicial independence and the public’s oversight rights, areas the EU traditionally guards with utmost vigilance.
– By centralising investigative authority in the hands of prosecutors, whose supreme leader, the Prosecutor General, is a political appointee of the executive, this reform effectively hands the ruling government unchecked influence over criminal investigations. This blatant conflict of interest is gravely concerning, especially given that Spain’s current Attorney General is already mired in a corruption trial.
– Parliamentary records and EU reports reveal the European Commission’s growing unease, demanding robust safeguards against government interference and protections for procedural fairness. Based on past EU jurisprudence, these heavy-handed restrictions are likely to be found incompatible with fundamental European democratic and justice standards.  Yet, in typical fashion, any EU ruling will probably only materialise after protracted legal battles, leaving these controversial measures in force, potentially for years, before a verdict is reached. The damage to Spain’s judicial autonomy may well be done by then. Refs: https://www.europarl.europa.eu/doceo/document/E-10-2025-000103_EN.html & https://en.ara.cat/politics/the-council…

AXARQUÍA

AEMET activates the yellow warning for heavy rain and storms for this Wednesday in the Axarquía: {Translation, summary}
– The Axarquía region is experiencing initial light rainfall from an approaching storm system on Tuesday evening. Heavier rain is expected on Wednesday, 29 October, especially from midday, with strong showers, storms, and possible hail. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a yellow alert for intense rain and storms valid from 09:00 to midnight. This includes the likelihood of 25 litres of rain per square metre in one hour or 70 litres over 12 hours, with tornadoes or waterspouts not ruled out. The warning covers Axarquía and also parts of Malaga province such as Ronda and Guadalhorce. Temperatures will remain stable, with southern winds increasing in the afternoon.
– On Thursday, conditions will improve as the storm moves east, with light rain easing by afternoon. From Friday, Axarquía will be outside the storm’s reach, expecting cloudy but mostly dry weather, with some light rain possible on Saturday, and uncertain weather on Sunday due to the arrival of a new frontal system {pic}. TORROX

Torrox passes next step to be declared a Tourist Municipality: {Translation, summary}
– The province currently has ten officially declared Tourist Municipalities: Álora, Antequera, Ardales , Benalmádena, Estepona, Fuengirola, Frigiliana, Nerja, Ronda and Torremolinos. This is a recognition granted by the Junta de Andalucía “to correct or at least compensate for the negative effects that tourist activity may have on these municipalities, given that the Law Regulating the Local Regime does not provide for any mechanism to compensate for the financial imbalance caused by the overprovision of municipal services caused by the influx of tourists”.
– The Andalusian Tourism Council (CAT), an advisory body of the Junta de Andalucía in tourism matters, held its plenary session this past Monday in which the favorable report for the declaration of Vejer de la Frontera (Cádiz), Torrox and Capileira (Granada) as Tourist Municipalities of Andalusia was approved. PP Wants To Industrialize Undeveloped Torrox Land: {Translation, summary}
– Environmental and civic groups have sharply criticised the PP-led Torrox Council’s latest push to convert the La Boticaria area into “showcase industrial” land, arguing that such development damages the town’s natural surroundings and promotes excessive tourism. The plan, hailed by Mayor Óscar Medina as a sign of economic progress, would turn rural terrain near the coastal road into commercial and hotel zones, something opponents say undermines Torrox’s traditional landscape and accelerates urban sprawl.
– Critics accuse the administration of prioritising population growth and business interests over environmental balance, warning that the initiative risks further congestion and the loss of green spaces that once defined the town’s charm.
– They have also warned that Torrox already faces growing pressure on essential services, including water and electricity, which are unlikely to sustain further large-scale development without harming both the environment and residents’ quality of life. GIBRALTAR

Spanish workers in Gibraltar denounce new kilometre-long queues– “We are still trapped in an obsolete border”: {Translation, summary}
– Spanish workers crossing daily into Gibraltar face renewed hardship with excessively long queues at the border. The Association of Spanish Workers in Gibraltar (Ascteg) reports that on Monday evening, waits exceeded an hour and fifteen minutes, notably near the airport tunnel—a congestion risk zone.
– The main cause is the detailed inspection of all workers’ ID cards and passports, not random checks, which causes immediate traffic jams. The problem is worsened by inexperienced staff, often trainees, slowing controls further. Ascteg highlights that over 10,900 Spanish workers and 16,000 border residents are affected daily, with European calls to Spain and Gibraltar to modernise infrastructure going unheeded. Moreover, the recent introduction of the Entry/Exit System, a biometric-based digital border control system active in many European countries, is not yet in use at the Gibraltar land border but raises concerns about further delays. Both workers and authorities worry that stricter Spanish controls will harm border fluidity, demanding urgent solutions as political agreements remain stalled. MIDDLE EAST

Israel launches strikes on Gaza after Netanyahu accuses Hamas of breaching ceasefire:
– Israeli warplanes struck Gaza on Tuesday night shortly after Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, ordered the military to carry out “powerful strikes” in Gaza, in the latest test of the increasingly shaky US-brokered ceasefire. Witnesses reported seeing Israeli planes launch strikes on Gaza city, as well as explosions across the strip shortly after Netanyahu’s announcement.
– Netanyahu ordered the strikes after an emergency meeting to discuss what he called Hamas violations of the ceasefire, amid clamour for a return to the war by far-right figures in the Israeli government. The order prompted Hamas to delay a planned handover of a hostage’s remains which had been scheduled for Tuesday night.
– Hours earlier, Palestinian militants fired at Israeli soldiers in southern Gaza, prompting strikes from the Israeli military. Israeli media said Hamas militants attacked Israeli troops in southern Gaza with an anti-tank missile and guns and Israel retaliated by striking infrastructure associated with the militant group. An Israeli military official told Reuters that the attack violated the ceasefire as it was carried out east of the agreed withdrawal line of Israeli forces. Israel Katz, Israel’s defence minister, said that Hamas would “pay many times over” for attacking Israeli soldiers and for failing to turn over hostages’ remains. “The attack on IDF soldiers in Gaza today by the Hamas terror organisation crosses a glaring red line to which the IDF will respond with great force,” Katz said in a statement. World Class BS Artist, Globalist Bill Gates, makes major climate change reversal after years of spreading climate panic & pushing gov’ts into wasting untold billions in public funds– “People will be able to live and thrive” (Next he’ll try and sell us an antidote to the poison shots he’s distributed around the world):
– Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, who has spent more than a decade warning that the world was on the brink of unimaginable peril due to rising global temperatures, now says climate change “will not lead to humanity’s demise” in a stunning reversal. Gates, 70, who has sunk billions of his vast fortune into initiatives ostensibly meant to combat global warming, penned a lengthy blog post this week urging a shift away from the “doomsday outlook” many climate activists have adopted to terrify nonbelievers into seeing things their way.
– “Although climate change will have serious consequences, particularly for people in the poorest countries, it will not lead to humanity’s demise,” he wrote. “People will be able to live and thrive in most places on Earth for the foreseeable future.” His reversal is a stark departure from his previous assertions that avoiding a climate disaster “will be one of the greatest challenges humans have ever taken on, greater than landing on the moon, greater than eradicating smallpox, even greater than putting a computer on every desk.”
– Astonishingly, Gates goes so far as to point out that cold, not heat, is a far greater threat to humanity, writing, “surprisingly, excessive cold is far deadlier, killing nearly ten times more people every year than heat does.” He even noted some of the ways the obsessive focus on lowering greenhouse gas emissions has negatively impacted the very groups climate alarmists have warned would suffer most due to rising global temperatures. State of Texas sues Tylenol (acetaminophen) makers, alleging deceptive marketing to pregnant people:
– Ken Paxton, the Texas attorney general, filed a lawsuit against the makers of Tylenol, claiming they deceptively marketed the pain medication to pregnant people despite alleged risks of autism and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children. Paxton filed the suit on Tuesday in Texas state court against Johnson & Johnson, the creators of the Tylenol brand of acetaminophen, and Kenvue, a Johnson & Johnson spinoff company which has sold Tylenol since 2023.
– “Big Pharma betrayed America by profiting off of pain and pushing pills regardless of the risks. These corporations lied for decades, knowingly endangering millions to line their pockets,” said Paxton in a press release. SPACE

The Red Spider Nebula, captured by the Webb telescope:
– This new NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope Picture of the Month features a cosmic creepy-crawly called NGC 6537- the Red Spider Nebula. Using its Near-InfraRed Camera (NIRCam), Webb has revealed never-before-seen details in this picturesque planetary nebula with a rich backdrop of thousands of stars.
– Planetary nebulae like the Red Spider Nebula form when ordinary stars like the sun reach the end of their lives. After ballooning into cool red giants, these stars shed their outer layers and cast them into space, exposing their white-hot cores. Ultraviolet light from the central star ionizes the cast-off material, causing it to glow. The planetary nebula phase of a star’s life is as fleeting as it is beautiful, lasting only a few tens of thousands of years.
