Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

ANDALUCÍA

Spain’s Health Minister Mónica García Slams Junta de Andalucía for Obstructing Cancer Screening Data, Threatens Advanced Legal Action: {Translation, summary}
– The Junta de Andalucía has been sharply criticised by Health Minister Mónica García for failing to provide mandatory cancer screening data, in defiance of laws obliging transparency and cooperation. All the other autonomous communities have complied or are in the process of doing so.
– However, the Andalusian government, under the PP, where the cancer screening scandal initiated this nationwide data demand, has resisted, prompting further legal action.
– She warned that continued non-compliance would result in escalation to the courts through an administrative dispute. By obstructing access to crucial information on breast, colorectal, and cervical cancer screening, the Junta not only undermines public health monitoring but also endangers women’s health in the region. García framed this negligence as a political calculation, placing party strategy above the responsibilities of the healthcare system. AXARQUÍA

Wasting taxpayer funds on useless, redundant studies– Scientists warn of “structural drought” in Axarquía and advocate for “profound reform” of water management. Everybody already knew this!: {DigameXtra}
– A recent study by researchers from the University of Málaga, Princeton University and IHSM ‘La Mayora’ claims to document a “structural drought” in the Axarquía region, citing long-term imbalance between water demand and availability, overuse of groundwater, expansion of irrigated agriculture, and institutional shortcomings. Published in PNAS, the paper details the obvious: severe droughts between 2019 and 2024 reduced reservoir levels, urban water restrictions were imposed, and fruit production suffered massive losses in mango and avocado crops.
– While presented as a major scientific finding, the study adds little that is new. Anyone familiar with Axarquía’s agriculture and water situation has long recognised these issues: the region is prone to drought, irrigation-intensive crops strain resources, and regulatory oversight has historically been insufficient. The so-called “multidimensional analysis” largely confirms what local authorities, farmers and residents already know, offering broad policy recommendations- tighter monitoring, flexible permits, and integrated planning- that have been repeatedly suggested and debated for years.
– In practical terms, the study demonstrates the continued waste of taxpayer money on research that merely reaffirms common knowledge without delivering actionable solutions, serving more as an academic exercise than a tool for meaningful change in regional water management. Ref:

MALAGA PROVINCE

Third dead body discovered in Malaga province in less than 24 hours– In Algarrobo, Alpandeire & Puerto Banús: {Translation}
– The Civil Guard has opened a new investigation following the discovery of another abandoned body in Alpandeire, specifically next to a road in this municipality of the Serranía de Ronda. This would be the third lifeless body found in less than 24 hours in the province of Málaga. The discovery of the body, that of a male, occurred on Sunday, 2 November, when the Security Forces and medical services were dispatched. Upon arrival, they located the body in a roadside ditch with apparent signs of violence.
– Police are also investigating another body that was abandoned on Monday around midday at the boat fuel dock in Puerto Banús, Marbella. The deceased had been dumped there by the occupants of a rigid-inflatable boat while still alive. However, upon the arrival of medical personnel, the man, still unidentified, was already deceased.
– At almost the same time yesterday, the Civil Guard was also alerted to the discovery of another body at sea, near a rocky breakwater area on Mezquitilla beach, in Algarrobo. According to information obtained by this newspaper, the individual is a woman of foreign origin. NERJA

Restoration of Abandoned Nerja Quarry Begins After Two Decades of Delays: {Translation, summary}
– The Barranco de Los Colmenarejos in Nerja, Málaga, is a periglacial streambed that houses a long-abandoned limestone quarry. The site, sealed by Nerja Town Hall in 2000, has been home to unused industrial vehicles and machinery for over two decades, suffering from theft and vandalism. Efforts by its previous owner, Orlando S. L., to reopen the quarry were rejected by the courts.
– However, in 2013, the businessman Orlando Rodríguez began efforts to remove the machinery and restore the site. After over a decade of bureaucratic delays, restoration work commenced in 2023. The company Materiales de Construcción Orlando S. L. received the necessary permits from the Junta de Andalucía and the local authorities. The restoration includes removing abandoned machinery, clearing debris, and rehabilitating the land for environmental purposes.
– The town’s officials {…who, after 12+ years of red-tape delays, and evidently having no conception of what constitutes reasonable progress…}, expressed their satisfaction with the progress, marking it as a significant step in restoring the site and protecting the surrounding natural environment. {Once again we find pompus officials congratulating themselves when they should be begging forgiveness for the unacceptable decades of delays. -Ed.} Photo: Eugenio Cabezas. – In 2025, the Andalusian village of Cómpeta will represent Andalucía in Ferrero Rocher’s ‘Together We Shine Brighter’ competition, seeking to follow in the footsteps of Frigiliana, which came second in 2015. Organised by the international chocolate brand, the contest now features one village from each of Spain’s 17 autonomous communities, highlighting local heritage, traditions, and talent. The other competitors include Albaida, Altafulla, A Guarda, Bullas, Consuegra, Cudillero, Fuente del Maestre, Graus, Medina de Pomar, San Vicente de la Barquera, Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, Santo Domingo de la Calzada, Tejeda, Torrelaguna, and Viana.

RELIGION

17 Nigerian Christians Killed in Attacks Hours After Trump Called Out Religious Persecution:
– At least 17 Christians were killed in attacks across Plateau and Kaduna states, just hours after President Donald Trump re-designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) due to ongoing attacks by radical Islamists. In Kaduna, seven people were killed and one injured when gunmen attacked Damakasuwa community on Friday evening, forcing residents to flee. Five died on the spot, while two others later succumbed to their injuries.
– In Plateau, 10 more Christians were killed in separate attacks on Friday and Saturday in Kwi and Pushit communities, with many victims being women and children. The attackers were believed to be Fulani militants, a largely Muslim ethnic group that has targeted Christian farmers. Local leaders confirmed the attacks were directed at Christians, with many victims gathering for an evening vigil.
– Trump condemned the killings, stating that Christianity in Nigeria is facing an “existential threat” from radical Islamists, and urged U.S. lawmakers to investigate. Nigerian President Bola Tinubu dismissed Trump’s remarks, claiming they did not reflect the situation’s reality. OBITUARIES

Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney dies at 84– Architect of ‘pre-emptive’ & ‘endless’ wars: {DigameXtra}
– Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney has died aged 84, his family announcing the cause as complications of pneumonia along with longstanding cardiac and vascular disease.
– Cheney’s legacy is one of raw power wielded without sufficient restraint. He played a central role in shaping the post 9/11 “war on terror”, championing invasive surveillance, torture as a necessary evil, and pre-emptive war– most notably the invasion of Iraq under false weapons of mass destruction pretences.
– He pushed the executive branch to the brink of unchecked authority, weakened civil liberties, and left behind broken states and countless civilian casualties in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. His business ties and “revolving door” between government and defence interests magnified public distrust of his motivations. A remorseless war hawk with little accountability, he tarnished both his country’s standing and his own.
– Nevertheless, he was also a dedicated husband and father. His passing closes a significant chapter in American history– one in which he directed the machinery of war and intelligence unchecked as VP under feckless and easily manipulated President George W. Bush.
