Government Tightens Avian Flu Surveillance Measures and Bans Poultry Farming in Outdoor Areas at Risk: {Translation, summary}
– Due to rising avian influenza cases in Spain and the EU, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture has strengthened surveillance and will ban free-range poultry farming in designated risk and special surveillance zones from 10 November. IX Cajonea Festival of Torrox pays tribute to flamenco with a show that combines avant-garde and tradition: {Translation, summary}

Plaza de España in Nerja will host the II Merca Anime on November 22: {Translation}

English cyclist dies after collapsing on the road in Almuñécar: {Translation}
– A 57-year-old English cyclist died last Thursday at midday on the approach to Almuñécar, around kilometre 312 of the N-340, apparently after fainting, from which he was unable to recover despite attempts by local police officers from this coastal town in Granada to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
– This was reported to Europa Press by sources close to the case, after the man, who was staying at a hotel in the municipality of Nerja, suffered a health problem while cycling on the road.
– The 112 Andalusia Emergency Coordination Service informed Europa Press that it received a report of the incident at around 12.35 p.m., which initially appeared to be a fall on the N-340 road towards La Herradura, in the municipality of Almuñécar. Mandatory bird housing imposed in Ireland after bird flu outbreak:
– Ireland on Wednesday imposed a mandatory country-wide housing order for poultry and captive birds, effective from November. 10, following the first outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu on a farm in the country since 2022.
– The H5N1 virus was detected in a turkey flock with 3,240 birds in the eastern town of Carlow, causing the death of 3,130 of them, the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) said on Wednesday, citing a report from Irish authorities. The virus has been circulating widely in wild birds across Ireland for the past year, Ireland’s agriculture department said, including 12 cases at a popular wildlife park in County Cork that has been forced to close until the end of November. Over 40 wild birds have tested positive for avian flu so far this year, the department said in a statement.
– Neighbouring Britain has also imposed a compulsory housing order for birds covering the whole of England that is due to kick in on Thursday, in a bid to slow the spread there. Other European countries took similar decisions last month.

– Nancy Pelosi has announced her retirement from Congress, ending a decades-long career that saw the California Democrat become one of the most powerful figures in US politics. Minister Sanz Dubious Mammogram Excuses Appear to be Distortions & Exaggerations: {Translation, followed by Editor’s explainer}
– During an interview on the Acento Andaluz program, on 7TV Andalucía, Sanz said that what happened was that “there was a computer crash and there were people who interpreted that evidence had disappeared.” [Dubious #1] In fact, “the tests cannot be modified because it would be recorded who has entered” the patient’s history. Moreover, in case of doubt, the minister commented that “it has been offered” to these associations to “analyse case by case” the result of the diagnostic tests for breast cancer.

#1: Multiple women’s groups, led by the Asociación de Mujeres con Cáncer de Mama (AMAMA), have presented documentary evidence — before and after images and other material from the clinical portal — that show mammogram images and reports were changed, and they have filed complaints. That has led to more than a hundred complaints and a growing number of civil claims.
