Can you believe it? Another year draws to an end, and so it is once again time for the DigameXtra Holiday Fundraiser. The idea is to collect enough donations in this next 8 weeks to recover my 2025 expenses. That allows me to publish daily issues for the following 10 months free from any donation request nags. I hate asking, and no one likes being asked, so please give generously and in 8 weeks we can be done with this for another year. -Naythan. ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER
I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, during the year end holidays, I do an 8 week fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive donations from 4% of subscribers. This “4% Club” finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated.
Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?
– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –
DigameXtra subscribers must donate at least €20 (39 cents per week) to gain annual submission posting privileges.
#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope so I can put you on the list of subscribers with submission posting privileges for 2025-2026! Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon.es emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR PAYMENT APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, THE DEFAULT IS €60):
https://www.amazon.es/Cheques-Regalo-Amazon-es-mail-Amazon/dp/B07SS5PFJK/?th=1&gpo=60
On the eGift card purchase form, enter the DigameXtra email as the recipient, as shown below in Spanish and with English translation.
Para/For : digamextra@protonmail.com
Please do not ask me about gaining posting privileges by making small donations of under €20, several times a year. Several people promised to do that for each of the last two annual fundraisers, and not a single one followed up.

SPAIN
UPDATE- Spain confines all farmed birds due to advance of avian influenza: {Translation, summary}
– The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has imposed a mandatory confinement for all free-range poultry in Spain, effective from Thursday, to curb the growing risk of avian influenza. The order, published in the Official State Bulletin, extends the ban to all farms, including organic and small-scale operations, and those selling meat or eggs directly to consumers.
– Previously, restrictions applied only to 1,201 high-risk municipalities. The ministry, led by Luis Planas, cited the increase in European outbreaks, migratory bird movements, and colder temperatures as factors facilitating virus survival. The measures aim to prevent contact between domestic and migratory birds. Additional restrictions include prohibiting the joint rearing of ducks and geese with other poultry, securing water sources from wild birds, and banning poultry from fairs and cultural events. Where full confinement is impractical, regional authorities may allow outdoor housing with protective netting to prevent contact with wild birds. The examination of the occupational risk of your domestic worker is mandatory from Friday- this is the process and the fine provided if you do not do it: {Translation, summary}
– In Spain, many live-in domestic workers face poor conditions, including restricted showers, forced use of cold water, lack of access to toilets, exposure to toxic cleaning products, and insufficient protective equipment, sometimes at their own expense. Complaints have reached the labour inspectorate.
– To address this, the Government has introduced an online tool, [ https://www.prevencion10.es ], to perform mandatory occupational risk assessments in domestic work from 14 November {this website was down when I checked it, see pic}. Employers are responsible for safety measures and cannot pass costs to employees. The platform guides employers through registration, identifying household workers, and completing a questionnaire on home risks and tasks. Risks are evaluated and colour-coded, with red indicating urgent action. The system recommends improvements, assigns responsibility, and estimates costs, mostly free. Once completed, an editable document is produced, with copies for the worker and the household. Failure to comply incurs fines starting at €2,451. Additional resources, including guides on protective equipment and a helpline, are provided to ensure compliance and protect domestic workers’ rights. AXARQUÍA
Storm Claudia puts the Axarquía on yellow alert this Friday due to heavy rains: {Translation, summary}
– Storm Claudia is set to bring heavy and persistent rain to the Axarquía until early Sunday. A stationary depression over the Atlantic is sending successive fronts and humid south-westerly winds, causing heavy rainfall and a significant drop in temperatures. AEMET has issued a yellow warning for Friday, with rainfall potentially reaching 20 litres per square metre in an hour or 60 litres in 12 hours. Friday will see overcast skies, moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with gusty winds. Saturday is expected to remain unstable, with strong showers and thunderstorms, morning fog in the mountains, and occasional very strong gusts. Early Sunday will see the heaviest rain, with scattered showers continuing through the day, while early next week remains uncertain. NERJA
The Local Police of Nerja intensifies its moped control campaign: {Translation, summary}
– Nerja Local Police report increasing irregular modifications on mopeds and are intensifying inspections to detect, sanction and seize non-compliant vehicles, particularly those with altered silencers or exhaust systems. Such modifications, combined with the uncivil behaviour of some riders, cause serious noise disturbances affecting residents’ peace and rest. {In Spain, a moped is defined as a two or three wheeled motor vehicle with an engine of 50 cc (3.1 cu in) or less with a maximum speed of no more than 45 km/h (28 mph). Ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moped }
– In recent months, numerous fines have been issued, and around 20 mopeds have been confiscated. The Town Hall’s Department of Security emphasises that all vehicle owners must comply with regulations and avoid making unauthorised alterations that lack official approval, highlighting the importance of respecting both legal standards and community well-being. Nerja will pay tribute to the Virgen del Carmen with a sculpture and a viewpoint– Yeah, but will they allow busking?: {Translation, summary}
– Nerja Town Hall has approved a motion to install a sculpture of the Virgin of Carmen, patron saint of sailors, on the extension of the Torrecilla Promenade, naming it the “Virgin of Carmen Viewpoint”. The Mayor stated the sculpture will create a religious, cultural and tourist space while enhancing the area. The Virgin holds deep significance for residents, symbolising protection, faith, hope, and Nerja’s maritime identity. The Tourism Councillor noted the annual festival draws hundreds of visitors, has been declared a Festival of Special Local Tourist Interest, and that recognition at the provincial level has been requested from the Málaga Provincial Council. No mention if busking will be tolerated at the new viewpoint. Source, Spanish: https://www.axarquiaplus.es/nerja-rendira-homenaje-a-la-virgen-del-carmen-con-una-escultura-y-un-mirador/
RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA
New health centre in Rincón de la Victoria to quadruple space and add 44 consultation rooms: {Translation, summary}
– Andalusia’s Health Minister, Antonio Sanz, announced that the Junta is preparing contracts for a new health centre in Rincón de la Victoria. Scheduled with a 2026 budget of two million euros and a final investment near 15 million euros, the centre will quadruple existing space, add 44 consultation rooms, and include services such as Rehabilitation, Minor Surgery, Dentistry, Radiology and Mental Health, plus extra parking. Sanz highlighted months of work with the local Council, framed the project as part of Juanma Moreno’s commitment to improving Málaga’s healthcare infrastructure, and noted over 330 million euros have been invested in the province since 2019.
– {Considering the current Andalucian health staff hiring crisis, I’m wondering who will work in this new centre? It’s well established that the best & brightest health services candidates don’t want to work in Andalucia, the salary-to-expenses ratio is prohibitive (I can almost hear Ray Davies crooning ‘Low Budget’ in the background). I suggest the current workers will all want to transfer to the shiny new facility and that will leave many vacancies at the old facilities, making new job offers an even harder sell. -Ed.}

UK Begins Developing New Nuclear Plants– First will be at Wylfa on Anglesey/Ynys Mon, North Wales: {Summary}
– The UK Government has confirmed that the country’s first small modular reactor (SMR) nuclear power station will be built at Wylfa, Anglesey/Ynys Môn, North Wales, by publicly owned Great British Energy-Nuclear (GBE-N) with £2.5 billion in government backing. SMRs are prefabricated mini nuclear plants, expected to be faster to construct than traditional reactors, and the Wylfa project, designed by Rolls-Royce SMR, could eventually generate electricity for three million homes. Construction could support up to 3,000 local jobs, with operations potentially starting in the mid-2030s.
– The Government has also tasked GBE-N with identifying sites for a larger-scale nuclear plant across the UK by autumn 2026. The decision drew criticism from the US, which had pushed for a larger Westinghouse reactor at Wylfa. UK officials emphasised energy sovereignty, economic growth, and a revival of the nuclear sector, while First Minister Eluned Morgan highlighted the benefits for Wales’ jobs and energy security. Met Office has issued Amber & Yellow weather warnings as Storm Claudia heads to the UK: {Summary}
– An amber weather warning for rain has been issued for the West Midlands this Friday from noon to midnight, as Storm Claudia, named by Spain’s meteorological service, is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds across the UK. Areas including Birmingham, Kidderminster and Stourport could see up to 80mm of rainfall, with deep floodwaters posing a danger to life.
– The warning also affects parts of Wales, the East Midlands, South West, South East and East of England.
– A wider yellow rain warning covers much of England from Cheshire to the south coast from 6am Friday for 24 hours, while winds up to 70mph are expected in western regions.
– The Met Office cautions that the storm may cause flooding, power cuts, travel disruption and building damage. Meteorologist Matthew Lehnert warned that saturated ground could exacerbate flooding, with some areas potentially receiving over 150mm of rain. Travelers are urged to take care during the storm. Trump signs deal to end longest US government shutdown in history: {Summary}
– President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed legislation ending the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. The Republican-controlled chamber passed the package by a vote of 222-209, with Trump’s support largely keeping his party together in the face of vehement opposition from House Democrats, who are angry that a long standoff launched by their Senate colleagues failed. The deal extends funding through January 30, leaving the federal government on a path to keep adding about $1.8 trillion a year to its $38 trillion in debt. Photo: Kevin Lamarque.
