ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER

 I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, during the year end holidays, I do an 8 week fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive donations from 4% of subscribers. This “4% Club” finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated.

Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?

– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –

DigameXtra subscribers must donate at least €20 (39 cents per week) to gain annual submission posting privileges.

#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope so I can put you on the list of subscribers with submission posting privileges for 2025-2026! Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon.es emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR PAYMENT APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, THE DEFAULT IS €60):
https://www.amazon.es/Cheques-Regalo-Amazon-es-mail-Amazon/dp/B07SS5PFJK/?th=1&gpo=60
On the eGift card purchase form, enter the DigameXtra email as the recipient, as shown below in Spanish and with English translation.
Para/For : digamextra@protonmail.com

Please do not ask me about gaining posting privileges by making small donations of under €20, several times a year. Several people promised to do that for each of the last two annual fundraisers, and not a single one followed up.

Total Donations Received As Of Today: 34

Target, 4% of subscribers = 200 donations

SPAIN

García Ortiz presents his resignation as attorney general: {Translation, summary}
– Spain’s chief prosecutor said on Monday he was resigning after the Supreme Court last week found him guilty of leaking confidential information in a case involving a leading opposition figure’s partner. The unprecedented case is a blow to the leftist coalition government of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who appointed Alvaro Garcia Ortiz in 2022 and has repeatedly defended his innocence.
– In a letter seen by Reuters, Garcia Ortiz said his decision to step down, before the sentence banning him from his post for two years, came from “profound respect” for judicial rulings. “Though my decision stems directly from the ruling, I’m convinced that I’ve faithfully served the institution to which I am honoured to belong, with an unequivocal vocation for public service, a sense of duty and institutional loyalty,” read the letter to Justice Minister Felix Bolaños.
– His departure was widely expected even as the Supreme Court has yet to give its rationale for the verdict and Garcia Ortiz may still appeal it before Spain’s Constitutional Court and ultimately the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
– “We respect the court’s decision but do not agree with it,” government spokesperson Pilar Alegria told state broadcaster TVE after Garcia Ortiz’s resignation, adding the lack of unanimity and notifying the verdict without a full ruling set a worrying precedent and had generated “stupefaction” among the public. Vox sues Sánchez for false testimony in the Senate for saying that he did not know Antxón Alonso: {Translation, summary}
– Vox’s complaint against Pedro Sánchez focuses on his alleged connection to two figures now under judicial investigation and the relevance of this to his investiture as President in 2018. The party argues that Sánchez denied knowing Antxón Alonso during his Senate testimony, even though Alonso is described as the link who arranged meetings between Sánchez, Arnaldo Otegi and Santos Cerdán shortly after the motion of censure that removed Mariano Rajoy. According to Vox, these meetings were held to secure Bildu’s support for Sánchez’s investiture.
– Of the individuals involved, Antxón Alonso is under formal investigation for his wider role in the Koldo case. Santos Cerdán, Sánchez’s close political ally at the time and senior PSOE figure, has also become entangled in the same corruption proceedings, facing suspicion over his dealings involving Alonso.
– Vox maintains that Sánchez’s denial of any knowledge of Alonso constitutes false testimony. The party has asked the Supreme Court to summon Sánchez, Otegi, Alonso and Cerdán, and to obtain all relevant documentation surrounding the meetings that Sánchez and Otegi both deny took place. The mistake you should not make when buying the mandatory vehicle safety V16 beacon in 2026- many people fall for the trap: {Translation, summary}
– The DGT has confirmed that V16 beacons will be mandatory for all vehicles from January, making them essential for road safety. In the final weeks of 2025, many companies are rushing to fill orders, but supply is tight, leading some to import units from China.
– These imports carry risks, including delivery delays often exceeding 90 days, financial exposure from advance payments, lack of pre-delivery quality checks, SIM card compatibility and minimal after-sales support. Seasonal factors such as Chinese New Year further complicate logistics, leaving vendors uncertain and vulnerable to regulatory non-compliance.
– A domestic alternative is the LED ONE Connected V16 beacon, manufactured in Spain by Erum Vial. Officially approved by the DGT, it offers immediate delivery, local technical support, and guaranteed connectivity until 2041 via Vodafone NB-IoT. Produced sustainably using recycled plastic, this option allows companies to meet legal requirements safely, protect investments, and avoid the common risks associated with Asian imports. ANDALUCÍA

Foessa Warns of Middle Class Decline as Andalucía Faces Sharp Rise in Poverty: {Translation, summary}
– The Foessa report published by Caritas warns of a marked decline in the wellbeing of Spain’s middle classes, especially in Andalucía. Based on 31,000 interviews, the research finds that wealthier households have increased their resources while middle income families have lost purchasing power and are moving towards poverty and exclusion.
– Andalucía shows some of the worst figures: poverty has risen from 27 percent in 2008 to 30.5 percent in 2023, and social exclusion from 19 percent in 2018 to 23.1 percent in 2024. The main causes are insecure, poorly paid jobs and the high cost of housing, which has sharply reduced spending capacity. The report calls for better quality employment, a shift towards higher value economic activities, more affordable public housing and stronger redistribution through public services. Andalucía is classified as a region of “restrictive scarcity”, with one of the widest income gaps in Spain. NERJA

‘A vision of Nerja’, by photographer Robert Holder, closes the year at the Nerja Museum: {Translation, summary}
– The Museo de Nerja has opened a new temporary exhibition, ‘A Vision of Nerja’, featuring forty-six photographs by German photographer Robert Holder. The show, which runs from Thursday 20 November until Tuesday 6 January in the Ana María Márquez Hall, is free to the public and closes the museum’s 2025 seasonal programme.
– Holder’s images, reproduced from his original negatives, include mostly black-and-white prints on 6 x 6 cm and 35 mm film, with only two colour shots related to fishing. The photographs depict daily life in Nerja during the 1960s and 1970s, capturing children at play, housewives, markets, farming, fishing, local festivals and early tourism, including mule excursions.
– Holder, born in Stuttgart in 1941 into a family of photographers, moved to Nerja after travelling around Europe and became involved in promoting tourist apartments. He lived between Nerja and Frigiliana until his death in 2022. The exhibition, organised with Pablo Rojo and the Asociación Cultural Taha de Frigiliana, pays tribute to Holder’s external perspective, providing a unique historical record of 1960s–70s Nerja and highlighting locations that remain largely unchanged today. LA HERRADURA

The 40th Andrés Segovia Classical Guitar Contest begins Tuesday in La Herradura, with 17 registered participants from 13 countries: {Translation, summary}
– The 40th Andrés Segovia Classical Guitar Competition in La Herradura, Almuñécar, begins with the presentation of the jury and seventeen contestants from thirteen countries, followed by the draw for performance order. The first elimination round consists of two sessions, held on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday evening, in which each contestant performs a freely chosen programme of up to fifteen minutes. After the second session, the jury will select the musicians who progress to the second round.
– The second elimination round takes place on Thursday and Friday evenings. Selected contestants will perform a twenty minute programme of varied styles, different from their previous performance, and must also play two compulsory works: Estudio sin luz by Segovia and Preludio en mi, commissioned by him from Manuel Ponce.
– The finalists, announced on Friday, will perform the Concierto de Aranjuez with the Mediterranean Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, before the prize giving and closing ceremony. ALHAURÍN DE LA TORRE

Alhaurín de la Torre opens a new access road to the A-7 this Monday to alleviate traffic jams at rush hour: {Translation, summary}
– Alhaurín de la Torre will open a new direct access road to the A 7 motorway Monday, 24 November, intended to ease the severe morning congestion suffered by the municipality. The project links Santa Clara Avenue with a newly constructed roundabout on the Churriana road and is designed to divert up to 40 per cent of outbound traffic, particularly from the eastern residential developments.
– The Town Council has funded the entire scheme, which includes the new roundabout and a connecting road across the Ramírez stream. A second roundabout has also been built near Cortijo Blanco, close to the hiperronda viaduct, to improve traffic flow at another bottleneck.
– Together, these works represent over two million euros of investment and form part of a wider strategy to reduce gridlock at peak times. Medium term relief is expected from the future dual carriageway upgrade of the A 404, but the immediate improvement will come from this new access route. UKRAINE WAR

Kremlin rejects European plan to end war in Ukraine:
– The Kremlin has rejected a European counterproposal to Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Ukraine. The European plan, drawn up by Britain, Germany and France, changes key points in the US plan, including on the future of Nato and Ukrainian territory.
– Yuri Ushakov, Vladimir Putin’s foreign policy aide, described the plan as “unconstructive”. It “does not work for us”, he told reporters in Moscow. Mr Ushakov added that “not all, but many provisions of the US plan seem quite acceptable to us”. HEALTH

Mammogate leads to Biopsygate– More than 5,000 delayed biopsies spark concern over patient safety in Málaga: {Translation, summary}
– The PSOE has raised alarm over more than 5,000 biopsies left unanalysed for months at the Regional Hospital of Málaga and will bring the issue before the Parliament of Andalucía. The PSOE will file motions to clarify why thousands of samples have remained undiagnosed since August and is demanding explanations from the regional government. The party stresses that biopsy results are often essential for diagnosing cancer and other serious illnesses, and that delays should never exceed one week to ten days. Prolonged waiting can postpone treatment, increase patient anxiety and potentially worsen health outcomes. The PSOE accuses the regional Health Department of remaining silent about how many patients are affected, which conditions are involved and what urgent measures will be taken to clear the backlog.
– The party also links these delays to wider systemic strain. It highlights a rise in referrals from the Northern Health Area of Málaga to private hospitals, forcing patients to travel, pay extra costs and endure longer waiting times. The PSOE argues that shortages of professionals and specialists are fuelling delays that place patients at direct risk. GASTRONOMIA

This is the Michelin Star Gala 2026 in Malaga– when, where, keys to the event & how to watch live: {Translation, summary}
– Málaga will host the 2026 Estrella Michelin Gala on Tuesday, 25 November, officially presenting the Michelin Guide Spain & Portugal 2026. The city succeeds Murcia as host and reinforces its status as a key culinary centre in southern Europe. The gala will take place at SOHRLIN Andalucía, a venue developed by Antonio Banderas and Domingo Merín, with 300 chefs and 700 guests attending. The event begins at 6.30 pm, presented by Jesús Vázquez, with Masi Rodríguez appearing on the red carpet.
– During the ceremony, restaurants awarded one, two or three Michelin Stars will be revealed, a highlight for the gastronomy sector. Málaga currently has eleven Michelin Stars across nine restaurants, including Blossom, José Carlos García, Kaleja, Skina, Messina, Nintai, Back, Bardal and Sollo.
– The gala will be broadcast live on YouTube and Michelin’s official platforms, enabling both professionals and enthusiasts to watch the awards announcements.
– Michelin Stars are awarded by anonymous full-time inspectors who assess restaurants using five criteria: quality of ingredients, harmony of flavours, technical skill, chef personality and consistency. Each menu is tested multiple times by different inspectors, who then meet to determine whether a restaurant merits a star. OBITUARIES

Jimmy Cliff, reggae music pioneer, dies at 81:
– Jimmy Cliff, the legendary Jamaican singer who along with Bob Marley popularized reggae, ska and rocksteady music over a six decade career, has died, his wife Latifa Chambers announced on Facebook on Monday. The cause was a seizure followed by pneumonia, she said.
– The anti-establishment bent of Cliff’s music gave a voice not only to the hardships faced by Jamaicans, but to the spirit and joy that persevered in spite of poverty and oppression. Over the years, Cliff worked with the Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, Annie Lennox and Paul Simon.
