ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER
I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, during the year end holidays, I do an 8 week fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive donations from 4% of subscribers. This “4% Club” finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated.
Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?
– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –
DigameXtra subscribers must donate at least €20 (39 cents per week) to gain annual submission posting privileges.
#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope so I can put you on the list of subscribers with submission posting privileges for 2025-2026! Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon.es emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR PAYMENT APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, THE DEFAULT IS €60):

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

The Government proposes Teresa Peramato as the next Attorney General of the State to replace Álvaro García Ortiz: {Translation, summary}
– The Government has chosen Teresa Peramato as the new Attorney General following the resignation of Álvaro García Ortiz, who was disqualified by the Supreme Court for revealing confidential information. Proposed by the minister Félix Bolaños, she will undergo the usual procedure that involves a CGPJ report and a hearing in Congress before her final appointment and swearing in before the king.
– Peramato, a veteran prosecutor with a long career in combating gender based violence, is regarded as a more technical profile after the controversial terms of Dolores Delgado and García Ortiz. Although linked to the Progressive Union of Prosecutors (UPF), her name is not seen as politically charged. The main prosecutors’ associations have reacted cautiously, stressing the need to restore the prestige and independence of the Public Prosecution Service. The UPF, however, has strongly endorsed her. Peramato is widely respected and is known for her work defending victims, especially women and children. The PP welcomes the new attorney general with ‘caution’ and says the key is to see whether Sánchez will continue to abuse the institution to push his agendas: {Translation, summary}
– Miguel Tellado, Secretary General of the PP {pic}, said his party receives the appointment of Teresa Peramato as Attorney General “with caution”. He stressed the crucial issue is whether Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will stop politicising the Public Prosecutor’s Office or continue using it for personal and political gain. Peramato replaces Álvaro García Ortiz, who resigned after being disqualified by the Supreme Court.
– Tellado criticised Sánchez for previously appointing García Ortiz “to commit wrongdoing” and questioned if the Prime Minister has learned from the court’s ruling. He also condemned government figures, including Yolanda Díaz, for questioning the Supreme Court’s decision, calling it an attack on the separation of powers and a source of national embarrassment. Tellado argued Sánchez relied on state institutions to defend his government and associates from judicial cases. He concluded that the Prime Minister should consider calling elections to restore credibility and end the current political disgrace. First Challenge to the New Animal Welfare Act Successful– Supreme Court annuls the extension of the minimum space per pig: {Translation, summary}
– The Supreme Court has nullified part of the New Animal Welfare Act, specifically Royal Decree 159/2023, which required more space per pig on farms, overturning the Government’s claim that the measure would have “null” impact. The Third Chamber ruled that the Regulatory Impact Assessment was inadequate and ignored the economic consequences.
– Asaja, the agricultural organisation, said the decree threatened farmers with either reducing livestock numbers and income or investing hundreds of thousands of euros to expand facilities, potentially costing over 300,000 euros per farm or reducing national pig production by 7% to 16%. Asaja praised the court for halting what it called “legislative demagoguery”, highlighting the stark reality for farmers: “Paper can withstand anything; the farmer cannot.” The organisation warned that ideological pressure on intensive farming continues, and that while the ruling suspends the immediate effects of the decree, farmers must remain alert to future measures. ANDALUCÍA
The Disastrous Results of Putting Emotions Ahead of Facts and Logic– Andalusian health managers admit to judge that they ignored the Treasury’s order to halt hand-picked private contracts due to their “feelings”: {Translation, summary}
– The last three managers of the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) admitted before a judge that they extended emergency contracts with private clinics between 2021 and 2024, increasing the budget from 70 million to 242.3 million euros. They claimed that a written order from the Ministry of Finance to suspend direct awards “did not concern them” and they acknowledged they ignored multiple SAS audit reports showing the contracts were illegal.
– The current SAS manager, Valle García {pic}, and her two predecessors, Miguel Ángel Guzmán [November 2019 – July 2022] and Diego Vargas [until December 2023], are involved in this judicial case that now implicates the Government of Juan Manuel Moreno. The case seeks to clarify why the Junta extended emergency contracts for almost three years without publicity or competitive bidding, using an exceptional legal framework created at the start of the pandemic that had already been repealed.
– The managers defended their actions by citing the critical public health situation and the pressure on the health system, stating that their decisions were based largely on their personal feelings and the emotional impact of the Covid-19 crisis. Contradictions emerged between their account and former Finance officials, leading the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office to request that current and former ministers be summoned as witnesses. MALAGA PROVINCE
The PP in Malaga criticises the government for being ‘isolated’ in ‘its refusal to promote the third lane in the eastern area’: {Translation, summary}
– José Ramón Carmona of the PP accuses the Spanish government of abandoning Málaga by refusing to invest in measures to improve mobility, particularly the long requested third lane on the eastern stretch of the A7. He argues that constant congestion has become intolerable and that neither Sánchez nor Montero has offered any solutions.
– Carmona claims Málaga has endured seven years without meaningful state investment and criticises the absence of national budgets since 2023. He argues that it is incomprehensible that one of Spain’s fastest growing provinces has no new infrastructure projects planned. He describes the demand for a third lane from Vélez Málaga and Rincón de la Victoria to the capital as a public outcry rather than a PP initiative. He also denounces the ministry’s rejection of local councils’ proposals to address dangerous junctions and backs Torrox’s request for a second motorway access. He concludes that no state funding is reaching the province. Source, Spanish: https://www.malagahoy.es/malaga/pp-malaga-gobierno-tercer-carril-zona-este_0_2005303655.html
TORROX
Four dead from carbon monoxide inhalation in a house in Torrox: {Translation, summary}
– Four members of the same family, including two adults and two teenagers, died on Tuesday in Torrox after inhaling carbon monoxide from a gas leak caused by poor combustion of a boiler or water heater. {This is suspicious. Gas boilers & water heaters have thermostats or aquastats and turn on and off periodically. It’s doubtful those would produce lethal levels of gas in a room large enough for 4 persons to be sleeping in. Maybe, in a tiny, well insulated room with no windows? Still seems unlikely. -Ed.} Emergency services were alerted at 15:28 about the incident in the El Pontil neighbourhood.
– The Town Hall has declared three days of official mourning, cancelled municipal events, and invited residents to observe a minute of silence at 10:00 outside the Town Hall. Mayor Óscar Medina described the event as “an extremely sad day for Torrox” and extended his deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims. The tragedy has shocked the local community, highlighting the dangers of gas leaks and poor maintenance of heating appliances, and has prompted the municipality to mobilise official acts of remembrance. Update, 11pm Tuesday: {Translation, summary} Around 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, the lifeless bodies of the four members of a family of Moroccan origin, a married couple and their two teenage children were found. They were inside the house in which they lived in the old town of Torrox in the Axarquía. The main hypothesis now being considered is that they would have died of poisoning from the fumes of a faulty butane heater while they were sleeping. Said Rabah, 53, and his wife, Saadia, 38, were at home and everything indicates that they turned on a butane heater that did not work quite well. His sons, Mohammed, 19, and Moustapha, 17, were also at home and had gone to sleep. Ref: https://www.elmundo.es/andalucia/2025/11/25/6925d2c5fdddff13478b457e.html
NERJA
Aid for the payment of rent for families in vulnerable situations in Nerja approved: {Translation}
– The Nerja Governing Board has approved the sixth call for municipal aid for the payment of rent, aimed at people in situations of economic vulnerability and at risk of social exclusion.
– The mayor, José Alberto Armijo, has detailed that in this sixth call the beneficiaries will be able to receive aid of up to 3,600 euros, intended for the payment of rent for one year. In this sense, he recalled that this aid, initiated with the Coronavirus Shock Plan in 2020, is currently maintained for families who are in a complicated economic situation.
– The Councillor for Social Services, Daniel Rivas, has stressed the importance of these aids to guarantee residential stability and the social well-being of the most vulnerable neighbours, as well as to prevent situations of social exclusion. At the same time, he informed that, after its approval, it will be published in the National Database of Subsidies (BDNS) and in the Official Gazette of the Province of Malaga, thus starting the application process for those interested, with a period of 15 working days. Check with Town Hall for application procedures. Source, Spanish: https://www.axarquiaplus.es/aprobadas-ayudas-para-el-pago-del-alquiler-para-familias-en-situacion-de-vulnerabilidad-en-nerja/
HEALTH
Anaesthetists, following the death of a girl at a dental clinic, say- ‘Before undergoing any sedation, always ask who will be administering it.’: {Translation, summary}
– Sedar (Spanish Society of Anaesthesiology, Resuscitation and Pain Therapy) warns that sedations involving general anaesthetic drugs carry serious risks and must only be performed by specialists in Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation.
– The reminder follows the death of a six year old girl who suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest after being treated at a private dental clinic in Alzira. The clinic had no authorisation to carry out anaesthesia procedures, although it was allowed to use local anaesthetics.
– Sedar highlights that several regional health regulations permit deep sedation with drugs such as propofol to be administered by doctors from unrelated specialties, or even by nursing staff, following short courses that do not equal full specialist training. The society stresses that these medicines can cause life threatening complications within seconds and require expert preparation. It urges patients to check who will administer any sedation and to ensure the professional is a qualified anaesthesiologist, noting that anaesthesia remains a complex and inherently risky field.
– {Remember to always check the credentials of any health professional serving you. They all should have ID cards or badges. If they are legit they will have no problem with this. Verify that it shows they hold the title required to perform the procedure, and that the photo is of them. The short-handed hospitals & clinics often have inexperienced students, trainees & technicians, who are NOT registered MDs, treating patients, and sometimes doing procedures they are not qualified to do, or are only supposed to do under direct supervision. Even then, these supervisors may be supervising a crew of trainees, so the requirement for having them directly assist each one individually gets ignored. -Ed.}

SOCIAL MEDIA
Big Brother’s Social Media Police spreads from UK to Spain– Man arrested for “misogynistic hate speech” in social media posts in Sevilla: {Translation, summary}
– The Civil Guard in Sevilla has arrested a man accused of using his large social media following, more than one hundred and twenty five thousand users, to spread gender based hate speech. The investigation began after Community Social Services reported a series of online posts that appeared to incite hostility against women. Officers identified numerous posts and live broadcasts in which the suspect used openly misogynistic and denigrating language. According to the Civil Guard, the content was designed to encourage others to discriminate against women and contributed to fear and insecurity among them. The force highlighted that the behaviour displayed a clear discriminatory motive based on gender. Throughout the inquiry, the Hate Crime Response Team in Sevilla worked closely with the specialised Prosecutor’s Office for Hate Crimes and Discrimination. The case reflects increasing concern among Spanish authorities about the use of social networks to promote intolerance and target specific groups through coordinated hate campaigns, as well as concerns of free speech advocates who say such victimless activities are protected. SCAMS
Health alerts Malaga patients of a scam through email about medical appointments: {Translation, summary}
– Fraudsters are impersonating the Andalusian Health Service, SAS, to deceive patients with false messages about cancelled medical appointments. The regional health department warns that phishing emails are being sent in its name, telling recipients that a telephone consultation has been cancelled and providing a fake number for further information. The genuine Salud Responde number is 955 54 50 60, not the number used in the scam.
– Officials advise the public to check the sender’s address, look for spelling mistakes and avoid clicking on unfamiliar links. They also stress that no personal information should be given by telephone or through links included in suspicious messages. The scam mirrors wider phishing techniques, in which criminals pretend to be official bodies or banks and contact victims through email, SMS or WhatsApp. These messages usually contain a link to a fake website that asks for login details which are then used to steal money from the victim. TRAVEL
Fine of 10 million euros to Aena for performing facial recognition on airport passengers “without justifying its need”: {Translation, summary}
– The Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) has fined Aena 10,043,002 euros and temporarily suspended its facial recognition system at airports. The regulator ruled that Aena implemented a high-risk biometric system without demonstrating necessity or proportionality, collecting and storing data from over 62,000 passengers in a centralised database without a valid Impact Assessment. The AEPD criticised the system’s design, which stored passenger faces and personal information for up to two years, noting that less intrusive alternatives, such as local biometric checks or traditional human verification, existed. Aena stated passengers had consented voluntarily and that data security was never compromised, but the AEPD emphasised that consent does not justify disproportionate processing. The suspension will remain until Aena completes a risk assessment compliant with GDPR. The fine reflects both the seriousness of the violation and the company’s size, and it highlights growing European regulatory scrutiny over the use of invasive biometric technologies prioritising efficiency over citizens’ privacy. However, as is all to common with these digital violations, none of the money will actually go to the victims. FINANCIAL
Movistar will raise its rates by around 4% on average from 13 January: {Translation, summary}
– Movistar will raise its convergent tariffs, which include mobile, landline, fibre and television services, by around 4% on average from 13 January. This follows a 5% increase in 2025, meaning the total rise over the two years will be roughly 9% cumulatively. The company will inform customers this week, with the most common increase around 3 euros per month, although most will remain below 5 euros per month. Certain tariffs, such as Movistar Base and Movistar Autónomos, will remain unchanged, so the rise depends on the services each customer has.
– Movistar attributes the increase to rising costs in the sector, particularly from major television content providers, whose prices in Spain have grown at double-digit rates. Platforms such as Netflix, HBO Max and Disney, which are included in several Movistar packages, are cited as key drivers of the higher costs. For users with only mobile, fibre or satellite services, the typical increase will be around 2 euros per month.
