ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER
I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, during the year end holidays, I do an 8 week fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive donations from 4% of subscribers. This “4% Club” finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated.
Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?
– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –
DigameXtra subscribers must donate at least €20 (39 cents per week) to gain annual submission posting privileges.
#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope so I can put you on the list of subscribers with submission posting privileges for 2025-2026! Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon.es emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR PAYMENT APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, THE DEFAULT IS €60):
https://www.amazon.es/Cheques-Regalo-Amazon-es-mail-Amazon/dp/B07SS5PFJK/?th=1&gpo=60
On the eGift card purchase form, enter the DigameXtra email as the recipient, as shown below in Spanish and with English translation.
Para/For : digamextra@protonmail.com
Please do not ask me about gaining posting privileges by making small donations of under €20, several times a year. Several people promised to do that for each of the last two annual fundraisers, and not a single one followed up.
Total Donations Received As Of Today: 40
Target, 4% of subscribers = 200 donations

SPAIN
Consumer outcry against the latest rise in food prices– ‘Those of us earning a thousand a month are having a tough time; we can’t afford to buy anything after paying bills.’: {Translation, summary}
– Filling the shopping basket is becoming a major challenge for Spanish households as staple food prices soar. Although the record food CPI of 16.6% in early 2023 has eased, many essentials continue to rise dramatically: eggs up 22.5%, coffee 19.4%, beef 17.8%, chocolate 16.1%, and vegetable oils, cocoa, and processed meats also increasing significantly. Other key items, including fresh fruit, milk, fish, butter, and nuts, have risen between 5% and 10%, making everyday groceries noticeably more expensive.
– Consumers report serious strain on household budgets, particularly for families with children or seasonal needs. Students, workers, and pensioners must stretch their income, seek supermarket offers, and plan purchases carefully. Many buy traditional Christmas foods such as lamb or seafood in advance, freezing them to avoid peak prices.
– The inflation is forcing households to rethink spending habits, adjust menus, and prioritise essentials. While some resign themselves to the rising costs, others express frustration at the continuous pressure on their finances. The combination of persistent price increases and limited income has made strategic planning essential to cope with the dramatic impact on daily life and festive meals. MALAGA CITY
Malaga activates the cameras of the Low Emission Zone: {Translation}
– On Sunday, 30 November, Malaga activated cameras to control vehicle access to Low Emission Zones (LEZ). In the capital, this has been a reality for almost a year. Although none of our readers have noticed any effect so far, beyond the information posters and the cameras and systems that will begin issuing fines this Sunday after 12 months of ‘education’ since the measure was approved last year.
– During the first 12 months of what could be described as child’s play, entering the prohibited zone with a vehicle that did not comply with the measures had no effect whatsoever. This Sunday, the cameras will begin to record number plates. The penalties for those who do not comply with the restrictions will be €200, as it is considered a serious offence. HEALTH
The flu season is arriving a month early, with the peak of infections expected around Christmas: {Translation, summary}
– Spain is experiencing an unusually early influenza surge caused by a new variant of the A(H3N2) virus, known as the K subclade. This slightly altered form of the virus may evade parts of the immune system, leading to faster and more widespread infections, though it does not appear to cause more severe illness. Infection rates have already exceeded the epidemic threshold and are expected to peak at the end of December, coinciding with Christmas gatherings and increased social interactions, which will likely accelerate transmission. Children are seeing the sharpest rises, with cases in the one to four age group doubling in a week.
– While the overall number of cases may not surpass previous years, the early onset means people will encounter the virus sooner than usual, creating stress on the healthcare system. Experts note that standard seasonal vaccines may only offer limited protection against this new variant, leaving natural immunity and basic preventive measures as the primary means of defence. Andalucian Pharmacists to Handle Chronic Prescription Renewals Without Doctor Visits: {Translation, summary}
– Andalucía is introducing a new digital service that will allow pharmacists to request the renewal of treatments for chronic patients directly from prescribing doctors. The pilot phase will begin before the end of the year, and the system will be installed in all pharmacies at the start of next year. By March, pharmacists will be able to submit renewal requests without the patient needing to make a medical appointment or visit a health centre, easing pressure on primary care and simplifying access to ongoing medication. {How long it will take for the refill to be authorized is unknown. Will this be the next “waiting list” fiasco? -Ed.} A final expansion is planned for the second quarter of 2026, when pharmacies outside Andalucía will also be able to contact doctors of the Andalusian Health Service through this system.
– The regional government describes the programme as a major improvement in patient care, strengthening safety, continuity of treatment and cooperation between pharmacists and doctors, and reinforcing the role of community pharmacies within the public health system. Andalusia activates the recommendation to wear masks in health centres from December 1: {Translation, summary}
– Andalucía has introduced a new Action Plan for the early influenza season, and one of its central measures is a renewed emphasis on mask use. From Monday 1 December, the regional government will issue an order recommending masks in all healthcare and social care settings, including hospitals, health centres, care homes and disability centres. The recommendation applies to both professionals and the public in all public and private facilities. Management teams are also being asked to assess whether mask use should become compulsory within their contingency plans, depending on local infection levels. Audit Finds Major Failures in SAS Surgical Waiting List Management and Urges Urgent Reforms: {Translation, summary}
– The Chamber of Auditors has sharply criticised the Andalusian Health Service for failing to correct longstanding problems in surgical waiting list management. Its new report shows that, four years after a 2019 audit, only six of thirty six recommended actions have been completed, while almost half have seen no action at all. Major deficiencies remain, including outdated regulations, inaccurate or inactive entries in the waiting list register, poor confirmation procedures for appointments and weak coordination between doctors. More than 7,000 cases dating from before 2018 still show no recorded movement, artificially inflating waiting times and casting doubt on the validity of many interventions. The audit also identifies continued breaches of rules on how emergency cases are recorded and highlights unfair costs for patients treated in contracted private centres, who must pay the difference caused by outdated pricing regulations. The Chamber calls for urgent measures to ensure transparency, regulatory reform and compliance with surgical response deadlines. DoctorLaptop’s Tips #119– Detecting Signs of Infections in Today’s Faster Computers– Today’s Malware Often Requires Advanced Tools For Detection & Removal, Consumer Level Anti-Virus Software Is Ineffective:
– Today computers have solid-state hard drives, up to 10x faster than the old mechanical hard drives. We also tend to have far more RAM than in the past. Thus, your computers do not slow detectably when they become infected. Also, today’s malware does not attempt to break your computer; it wants your computer running well to optimize it’s nefarious data collecting activity. Modern malware is able to bypass anti-virus programs, Artificial Intelligence is used to avoid detection & removal. Malware now morphs by the hour to avoid being identified, often installs itself inside systems folders your security software cannot access, and may no longer even use a “file” format, hiding in pixels or scripts that anti-virus programs cannot access.
– So how can the average computer user detect infections? You must monitor the behaviour of your device, not only performance speed– any of these symptoms can suggest an infection:
*Look for odd behaviour, or new changes in behaviour. If you see anything mis-shaped or distorted that previously was normal, don’t blame it on “buggy Windows”, it may very well be malware at work.
*Your mouse cursor (arrow) disappears and reappears moments later.
*Screen flashes. You experience momentary screen flashes, where the entire screen flashes to a solid colour, usually black, white or blue, that almost instantly return to normal.
*Ignored clicks, you click on something but nothing happens, requiring several re-clicks to take effect.
*Your computer suddenly takes longer than normal to startup and/or restart, or takes more than 90 seconds to fully load at startup. If the delay is being caused by updates being installed, Win 11 should show a message telling you so, which is not suspicious; without the message, an unusually long delay is suspicious.
*Websites that appear slightly malformed, or with certain functions or buttons that do not work. Or websites that work properly in one browser but not another; slight variations in appearance are normal in different browsers viewing the same website, but buttons and functions should work regardless of the browser used.
*If you receive an error message telling you to restart your device or browser while visiting a website.
*Websites start showing popups blocking you from entering until you click a button or install an “update”, when you were able to previously access the same site without difficulty.
– DoctorLaptop has advanced anti-malware tools, and the training required to use them effectively. Don’t fall victim to the current threats: identity theft, property title theft, account hijacking, etc. All computers still require an annual maintenance service to ensure safe use and optimal performance, even if they have not slowed down to the point of being annoying to use. By that time they need a repair and possibly a full system reinstall, not an inexpensive maintenance service.
– KEEP BACKUPS OF YOUR VALUABLE DATA! These new SSD hard drives only have a estimated life of 5 years, and when they go bad, data recovery is almost impossible (unlike the old mechanical hard drives, where some data recovery was often possible). SSD HARD DRIVES MUST BE POWERED UP AT LEAST ONCE EVERY 18 MONTHS, OR THEY MAY SUFFER “DATA DECAY”. SSDs, even if powered up annually, are not appropriate for long-term data storage (5yrs+). For that you should use a “very high quality” 3.5 inch HDD external hard drive, not a SSD hard drive. These are the larger hard drives used in PC towers, not the smaller 2.5 inch hard drives used in laptops and cheaper external memory devices. These high-grade 3.5 inch HHDs should be safe for 20+ years, even without being powered up, if stored properly. See an example here {pic}: https://www.pcworld.com/article/2359150/seagate-expansion-desktop-hdd-review.html

The spectacular Supermoon arrives that will not be repeated until 2042: {Translation}
– The night of December 4 to 5 will be worth going to bed late, because you will be able to see an astronomical phenomenon that will not be repeated, according to experts, until 2042. This is the last full moon of this year, which will be especially spectacular as it is a supermoon, which looks larger and brighter than usual as the satellite is in a phase closer to Earth.
– The phenomenon that can be seen on Friday 5 is also called the Cold Moon or the Long Nights, as it marked the beginning of the coldest weeks of the year in the northern hemisphere.
– Specifically, it can be seen on the night of December 4 to 5 from 00.15 hours. It will be visible, according to forecasts, all over the planet, so no extra aid will be needed to enjoy the event, although it is recommended to appreciate its intensity to stay away from areas with light pollution. It is advisable to look west when it rises or sets, because that is when it is brightest. Source, Spanish: https://www.diariosur.es/sociedad/superluna-ver-fecha-diciembre-20251129212932-nt_amp.html

The guitarist Ritchie Blackmore said was absolutely perfect– “How incredible he was”:
– In the ‘60s, Blackmore (Deep Purple) had a jam session with two of the greatest guitarists in the world, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck. Page was producing sessions, so it was mainly Beck that was playing, and he completely blew Blackmore’s mind.
– “First met Jeff Beck around 64-65 and it was a session where we were both playing guitars and Jimmy Page was producing,” recalled Page, “I couldn’t believe how incredible he was, not only with his technique but his sound too. I became a fan of his ever since. He could reach up into the stars and make magic with his playing. His choice of notes were always absolutely perfect.”
– Beck has always been considered a revolutionary guitarist, not only in the way that he played, but the way he acted on stage as well. When he played with The Yardbirds, he wasn’t content just playing guitar at the back, he came to the front of the stage, acted flamboyantly, and made it so that the guitar player was one of the most exciting members in the band. It set a new precedent which is still followed by six-string proteges to this day.
