ANNUAL HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER
I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. Once a year, during the year end holidays, I do an 8 week fundraiser to help pay production expenses throughout the whole year. This year’s goal is to receive donations from 4% of subscribers. This “4% Club” finances DigameXtra for the 96% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 4% Club members is greatly appreciated.
Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?
– Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods –
DigameXtra subscribers must donate at least €20 (39 cents per week) to gain annual submission posting privileges.
#1. You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Please be sure to include your name on the envelope so I can put you on the list of subscribers with submission posting privileges for 2025-2026! Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins are inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! My mailbox has the name HARRIS on it. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
#2. Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you need is my email address and your name (the sender’s name). Remember, this is an “eGift card” you buy that Amazon.es emails directly to me, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO BANK TRANSFERS OR PAYMENT APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, THE DEFAULT IS €60):
https://www.amazon.es/Cheques-Regalo-Amazon-es-mail-Amazon/dp/B07SS5PFJK/?th=1&gpo=60
On the eGift card purchase form, enter the DigameXtra email as the recipient, as shown below in Spanish and with English translation.
Para/For : digamextra@protonmail.com
Please do not ask me about gaining posting privileges by making small donations of under €20, several times a year. Several people promised to do that for each of the last two annual fundraisers, and not a single one followed up.
Total Donations Received As Of Today: 44
Target, 4% of subscribers = 200 donations

Bands & Acts: Please submit your gig promos. Your music is your business, you need to get as much exposure as possible, don’t rely on venues to promote you! Most FB posts on local event pages only have a few likes, if any at all, so obviously are not reaching many people. And it is the same few persons giving the likes week after week. DigameXtra posts provide way better exposure than you’ll get in any FB posts!!! A donation of just €20 will allow you to post your gig schedule once a week until the end of 2026. What are you waiting for?

Sabar meets Jazz: Fri, 5 Dec, 8pm.
Echegaray Theatre, Malaga
Sabar Meets Jazz is a musical project that is born from the fusion of two very different but deeply complementary sound worlds, that of the vibrant and complex patterns of sabar, a type of drum originating in Senegal, with the freedom of improvisation characteristic of jazz, which creates a sound that is as organic as it is risky. In addition to performing traditional themes, the group also composes original pieces that explore new directions within this miscegenation, always maintaining the African essence and the harmonic richness of jazz. Bus Services: I‘ve lived in Spain since l985. I’m pretty fluent in Spanish. I live between Velez Malaga and Malaga. In my 80’s and retired I got rid of my car. Have a FREE bus pass for the green bus which circulates around Rincon de la Victoria, a great service.
Travelling to Malaga or to Torre del Mar, ALSA service only runs 1 per hour. Recently I tried to get to the Phoenix bake sale. When asked, the agent said get the bus at #1 stand. I bought ticket, which said Algarrobo Costa. While watching for ‘Aldi’ to get off, I’m told the bus doesn’t stop in La Caleta. When I explained what the ticket office said the driver stopped in la Caleta for me!
On return buses passed my stop but I had to wait for the 3 URBANA. Bus station office was now closed in Torre del Mar. Many people needed assistance, one poor woman was crying. Something needs fixing at Torre del Mar bus station, how do tourists manage? The area is getting busier in tourist season and only one poor agent.
The new system of booking on-line offers the Velez to Malaga trip hourly, it’s full leaving the bus station so during summer couldn’t pick up at designated stops! MC

SPAIN
The first cell in Spain of the neo-Nazi terrorist organisation The Base has been dismantled: {Translation, summary}
– Spanish National Police dismantled what they describe as the first known cell of the terrorist organisation The Base operating in Spain, arresting three individuals in Castellón. The investigation began at the start of the year when officers identified a man who had adopted the group’s accelerationist (the belief that society’s collapse or radical change should be sped up) and supremacist ideology. They later uncovered that he was part of a tightly knit three person cell that had already carried out paramilitary style training and was prepared to commit attacks. The group used social media to recruit, promote violent extremist content and praise terrorism elsewhere.
– Police say the cell’s leader had direct contact with The Base’s founder, who recently urged international cells to undertake selective attacks intended to undermine Western democratic institutions. The suspects had hardened their rhetoric and were acquiring weapons, which triggered an urgent operation. Searches uncovered firearms, training weapons, knives, tactical gear and neo Nazi propaganda. One suspect has been remanded in custody. Source, Spanish: https://www.malagahoy.es/espana/desmantelada-primera-celula-espana-organizacion_0_2005360922.html

Spanish Government to Promote UCO Chief Amid Corruption Investigations- Spurring Accusations the Gov’t Planned to “Behead the UCO” to Protect Its Associates: {Translation, summary, followed by analysis}
– The Spanish Government plans to promote Colonel Rafael Yuste Arenillas {for whom there are no public photos available anywhere, I searched hard, very suspicious! -Ed}, head of the Guardia Civil’s Central Operative Unit (UCO), to general, necessitating the replacement of the unit’s top officer. The UCO investigates major corruption cases, including the Koldo case and inquiries involving the Prime Minister’s wife, Begoña Gómez. It is also examining alleged kickbacks in the Almería provincial government and previously investigated the former Attorney General Álvaro García Ortiz.
– Critics accused the Government of attempting to “decapitate” the UCO, but the Ministry of the Interior insists that Yuste voluntarily pursued promotion and that such advancement has precedent, with no interference in investigations.
– The Ministry maintains that the promotion enhances independence and stability in the unit, and that ongoing investigations, including those involving prominent political figures, remain unaffected by this personnel change.
– {Analysis: The planned promotion of Unidad Central Operativa (UCO) chief Rafael Yuste Arenillas to general — forcing his removal from the unit — comes at a critical time, as the UCO leads several corruption probes involving close associates of the Government, including the case surrounding the Prime Minister’s wife and other high profile figures. Although officials say the promotion is routine, sceptics see it as a manoeuvre to replace an inconvenient investigator with someone more compliant. Critics and some Guardia Civil sources now argue that these promotions and attempted reassignments are not routine but intentional efforts to “decapitate” — that is, destabilise — the investigative units, reducing their autonomy just as they probe corruption allegations involving government linked individuals.
– In fact, early this year the gov’t tried a similar manoeuvre, to unilaterally transfer the head of the Judicial Police from the Civil Guard, General Alfonso López Malo, to an EU security agency based in Portugal. In this way, with an apparent international promotion of the high-ranking officer of the Civil Guard, the Government decapitated in a single blow the Judicial Police Headquarters from which General Alfonso López Malo protected the UCO investigators from political attacks when the first investigations that splash the PSOE began to take shape. -Ed} Source, Spanish: https://www.20minutos.es/nacional/gobierno-asciende-jefe-uco-obliga-buscarle-un-sustituto-frente-unidad-que-investiga-entorno-sanchez_6905006_0.html

Tesla can now test its autonomous driving in Spain– the DGT gives the green light to driverless cars: {Translation, summary}
– Tesla is advancing its autonomous driving technology, bringing hands-free cars closer to reality. In July, the company tested its Model 3 in Madrid, successfully following red lights, staying in lanes, and yielding safely without human hands on the wheel. Tesla is negotiating with European regulators for wider approval, while Spain’s DGT has introduced the ES-AV programme, allowing driverless tests for up to a year on all national roads.
– The programme requires vehicles to display identifying labels and involves three phases: controlled, extensive, and pre-deployment. Up to 19 Tesla vehicles are authorised to participate until November 2027. Tesla cars rely on a combination of sensors, cameras, and AI software called Full Self-Driving (FSD), which builds a real-time 3D model to navigate, change lanes, obey signals, and avoid obstacles. Despite their capabilities, human supervision is required. Tesla plans to enhance FSD with the 10X model, trained with more data and greater capacity. Since When Is Being A “Welfare State” A Desirable Thing?– Sánchez says that Spain’s Welfare State “advances” despite the “merchants of fear” that feed “mistrust and authoritarianism”: {Translation, summary}
– Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated that “Spain continues to move forward” despite the “merchants of fear” promoting selfishness and authoritarianism. He highlighted that the country advances through equality, European commitment, protection for those in need, and economic transformation.
– Speaking at the ‘Anastasio de Gracia’ awards, Sánchez noted the need to approve stalled legislation {Like the non-existent budget?}, while emphasising Spain’s leadership in energy transition and digital connectivity as part of reindustrialisation efforts {…which to this point have been dismal failures, yet Sanchez, in his socialist alternate reality bubble, claims successes. Guess he missed the blackout, the holiday-rental property registration fiasco, the cancer screening data failure, recent International Court decisions regarding the Sanchez energy plans defaulting to the tune of billions of Euros in fines with subsequent overseas Spanish property seizures, and the official Police data center hacks! I could go on with more related failures, see next article for example…}.
– He predicted a future reduction in structural unemployment, particularly among young people, supported by government tools for competitiveness. Trade unions remain “key” in ensuring the Government’s achievements reach citizens. Sánchez praised Asturias and its President, Adrián Barbón, for reinforcing the welfare state and investing heavily in public universities. He contrasted this with PP-led regions that cut welfare spending, urging them to follow Asturias’ example. 43% of requests to connect new homes to the electricity grid are not met due to lack of system capacity: {Translation, summary}
– Connection to the electricity grid is essential to advance new housing developments, projects that for many are key to tackling the housing emergency and mitigating rising prices. The construction sector frequently complains that labour shortages and slow planning approvals are hindering housing development. The electrical employers’ association, Aelec, adds difficulties in connecting new buildings to these obstacles. According to Marta Castro, Aelec’s director of regulation, 43% of access and connection requests made by housing developers in 2024 could not be fulfilled due to “lack of capacity” in the grid.
– “These figures are somewhat alarming,” Castro acknowledged, pointing out that the problem lies in the saturation of the distribution system. Aelec estimates that the grid is currently operating at over 87% of capacity. “This prevents the connection of many housing developments. The reality is worrying,” she insisted. Of the recent 6.4 gigawatts increase requested by developers, 1.3 GW are granted, 1.6 GW are under process, and 3 GW are not being attended to. “The problem is the lack of grid capacity,” Castro reiterated.
– In response, Aelec calls for adequate regulation and efforts to redirect “idle” parts of the grid towards new needs, such as housing developments. Distribution companies have repeatedly warned about network saturation and difficulties in supplying new demand. Challenges include electricity being less competitive than gas, currently 2.5 times more expensive due to taxes and charges making up 30-45% of the price. Recommendations include fairer electricity taxation, maintaining fiscal incentives and renovation aid for vulnerable households, awareness campaigns, and a more flexible, forward-looking grid planning with faster approvals and stable regulation. MALAGA PROVINCE
Malaga Set for Midweek Chill Before a Warm, Dry “Inmaculada Day” Long Weekend: {Translation}
– Malaga will experience a week of varied weather at the start of December. Tuesday will be stable with cloudy skies and little change in temperatures. A weak, scattered shower is possible on Tuesday. The most unsettled day will be Wednesday, when a cold front and an accompanying trough will bring a marked drop in temperature to about 16C, along with light to moderate rain, especially overnight and in the early morning. Inland areas will see most of the rainfall, while the coast may only receive occasional showers.
– Conditions will improve on Thursday as temperatures rise again towards 20 degrees, with little risk of rain. From Friday onwards the weather will settle, leading into a warm and dry Immaculate Conception long weekend. Highs will reach 22 to 23 degrees with mild nights near 14C. No significant rain is expected through to the holiday Monday.

NERJA
Nerja intensifies the control of mopeds: {Translation, summary}
– The National Police in Nerja have stepped up their monitoring of mopeds after a sharp rise in complaints from residents about persistent noise, especially at night. Recent checks have uncovered a growing number of mopeds that have been altered in ways that breach regulations, prompting the Police to strengthen enforcement. These intensified operations focus on detecting and, where appropriate, penalising or confiscating motorbikes that do not meet legal requirements, with particular attention to unlawful silencers and modified exhaust systems. According to the Police, the problem is not limited to technical breaches. They also highlight recurring antisocial behaviour by some riders, whose conduct, combined with the illegal alterations, is causing significant disturbance across local neighbourhoods. Officers state that these actions seriously affect the peace and rest of residents, and the expanded controls are intended to curb both the mechanical infringements and the disruptive behaviour linked to them. The City Council doubles the Christmas program of Nerja and Maro with more than 120 activities: {Translation}
– The First Deputy Mayor of Nerja Town Council, Francisco Arce, and the Councillor for Popular Traditions, Elena Gálvez, have presented an outline of the programme of events for Christmas 2025 and 2026, which will include more than 120 activities from 5 December to 6 January. Francisco Arce reported that this year Nerja Town Council is doubling its Christmas programme, exceeding 120 activities, which will also take place in Maro and in the neighbourhoods of Los Poetas and Las Protegidas.
– For her part, the councillor highlighted that the activities will begin this Friday 5 December with the opening of the Municipal Nativity Scene at the Tourist Office at 5.30 in the afternoon, with the participation of the Pastoral Group of Las Protegidas. Afterwards, the switching on of the Christmas lights will take place, which this year will be held in Plaza de España at 6.30 in the evening, accompanied by a street parade by Carpa Teatro.
– On Sunday 14 December the Rosario de Campanilleros of María Santísima de los Desamparados will be held. On 21 December the Living Nativity Scene of Las Protegidas will take place and, on the 19th the Christmas Park and Market will open in Plaza de España.
– On Monday 22 Dec. Father Christmas will visit Maro, while on 23 December the parade will take place in Nerja.
– On 31 December, at the Balcón de Europa, from 11.30 in the evening, the grand New Year’s Eve celebration will begin, and on 5 January the traditional Parade of the Three Kings will be held.
– There will be no shortage of Zambombás, Christmas dessert competitions, Migas Day in Maro, workshops and lunches for senior citizens. The social media channels of Nerja Town Council will provide regular updates on all activities. VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA
The decision not to resume tram service costs the Vélez-Málaga City Council €305,107 in interest: {Translation, summary}
– Vélez-Málaga’s tram has been inactive for more than thirteen years and the current government has ruled out reactivation because of its estimated 15 million euro cost. The town must now return more than 2.5 million euros in European funds previously received for the project, along with over 300,000 euros in late payment interest, and has renounced collecting a further 1.2 million euros that had been pending.
– The administration argues that the infrastructure is heavily deteriorated, that maintenance has been unfunded for years and that restarting the tram without proven demand would endanger municipal finances already subject to long term adjustment plans. They say public opinion favours cheaper and more flexible transport options such as electric buses or BRT systems (bus rapid transit).
– Opposition PSOE councillors accuse the government of lying about costs, rejecting state support, breaking a promise of a referendum and abandoning public transport across the municipality. Ecologists propose a large forest park to stop desertification in Vélez-Málaga: {Translation, summary}
– The environmental group GENA–Ecologistas en Acción has submitted a proposal to create a forty hectare forest park in the degraded area of Las Campiñuelas, between Vélez and Torre del Mar. The plan, centred on intensive planting of carob trees, aims to form a dense woodland capable of acting as a wildlife refuge, ecological corridor and major carbon sink, with the potential to capture four hundred thousand tonnes of carbon dioxide.
– The site, despite its barren appearance, has high biodiversity and is already a recognised birdwatching location. The proposal includes wetlands fed by rainwater, grassland areas, marked footpaths, bird observatories and the preservation of centuries old olive groves to diversify habitats. GENA urges the Town Hall to include the project in the new PGOU and secure the land through purchase, transfer or expropriation. They argue it is a historic chance to safeguard the area from further environmental degradation. SPACE
A storm of new stars: {Translation, summary}
– The Hubble telescope has released an image of a stormy and highly active spiral galaxy called NGC 1792, which is located more than 50 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Columba (the Dove). The European Space Agency (ESA) has highlighted that the bright glow of the galaxy’s centre is offset by the bright flocculent spiral arms that revolve around it.
– NGC 1792 is as fascinating to astronomers as its chaotic appearance might suggest. Classified as a starburst galaxy, it is a star-forming nerve centre, with spiral arms rich in star-forming regions. In fact, it is surprisingly luminous for its mass. NATURE
Bioparc Fuengirola celebrates the first birth of a gorilla in Spain this year: {Translation, summary}
– Bioparc Fuengirola has recorded a rare and highly significant event with the birth of a western lowland gorilla, the first in Spain this year and only the second in Europe. The female gorilla, Wefa, delivered her infant outdoors on 29 November, choosing to remain in her usual environment rather than the indoor birthing area.
– Keepers had noticed signs of restlessness the day before, and the birth unfolded quickly and naturally once contractions began. After cleaning and holding the newborn, Wefa allowed other group members to approach cautiously, showing confident maternal behaviour from the outset. Over the coming days the infant will strengthen its grip and stay attached to its mother as she moves. Veterinary teams will monitor the pair without disturbing group dynamics to ensure correct feeding and development. Bioparc highlights the birth as an important milestone for conservation, since each new infant strengthens the future prospects of this critically endangered species.
